I love that Sam, Frodo, and Merry all look very humbled, while Pippin this has "It's about time I get the recognition I deserve" smug smile on his face.
Viggo's acting throughout these movies is sublime, but his expression when he sees who's behind Legolas is next level. That whole scene is just perfection.
Yeah, I know. This part always gets me. Even typing this I have tears in my eyes. This trilogy will always be my favourite film of all time. I was so stoked when TRotK won a record equalling eleven oscars. It deserved it, totally.

These reactors were just toddlers or not even born yet when the movies came out. It warms my heart that the younger generation enjoy this masterpiece trilogy too.
Aragorn is the ONLY role model for masculinity. Kind, Caring, Fierce, Loyal, Humble, Honorable, Courageous, and a hundred other qualities i can't begin to express.
Even the toughest among us find it difficult not to cry at this scene, regardless of whether they made it through the others. We all have a place in our heart where we recognise goodness. This scene captures one of the main themes of the entire trilogy. A good heart, and the strength to be led by it may just be what matters most. In the end, it is hobbits that make the difference, despite inhabiting a world of men, elves, orcs and wizards. Nobody uses authority to convince you of Pythagoras' theorem. You see it for yourself. This scene resonates so, because your heart recognises the rightness of what is happening. This is the ultimate vindication of decency.
In this one moment, Tolkien/Peter Jackson showed how much of today's world leaders are so inadequate for their position. They lack the humility and nobility that Aragorn embodies. If we could have a king like him, I would gladly vote for a monarchy any time.
Genuinely think this scene is very telling for human nature. We all have felt small at one point. Weak and tiny in a big world that you don't know how to navigate. That is the part that resonates so hard with this trilogy and with this scene in particular. Finally, that tiny person that feels seen, and it's so damn beautiful. Masterful storytelling to the human soul.
There was at least one conversation that went like this "Why are we bowing" "The hobbits" "Why are we bowing to the hobbits" "The hobbits destroyed Sauron" "The hobbits destroyed Sauron?" "Yes" "How?" "Have you been fucking asleep? Just shut up and bow"
OK, I’ll admit it. I’m considered in some sewing circles as a pretty tough guy, but man, this scene…..gets me every damn time. These PJ movies put you through such an arduous adventure and he hits you with this scene at the end of all things….it was so well done. One of the most inspirational movie scenes of all time. Sean Astin had another tear-shedding scene in Rudy. Damn that guy!! 😂😢
Me too. But also Boromir and Aragorn's last lines together in Fellowship; "I do not know what strength is left in me. But I promise you, I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail." "Our people. I would've followed you my brother. My captain. My King." "Be at peace, son of Gondor."
"Aragorn furled his banner and ordered his men to prepare tents outside the city. He refused to claim his throne until the war with Mordor was decided, for good or ill." - The Return of the King chapter 8 "The House of Healing"
There is a reason stories like this just work. They speak to the human experience. Intrinsic aspects of our humanity that cannot be refuted. Also Howard shore truly cooked on that final hobbit swell.
I'm from Brasil. I remember this part very well because I watched it in the theater, and it shook with applause, whistles, cheers, and emotional screams.
I've said this in many videos about this scene, when you're watching this movie and that phrase comes up, if your guy or girl gets emotional, she/he is the one...

Tolkien understood 1st Corinthians 1:27 that reads: "God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong".
When Aragorn said that I was watching in the cinema and I just broke down sobbing. It still gets me when I do a rewatch and I've done that double figure times and I still cry.
I love the power of movies. Things like Lord of the Rings and Marvel and DC were the exclusive realm of children and the outcasts and nerds for decades and then movie adaptations of them came along, along with universal loves like Star Wars and Trek, and made them beloved by everyone like they always should have been. I'm so glad nerd has become mainstream.
NO JOKE, when we watched this in cinema on release night the entire crowd was in happy tears. By the time the ending scene came on, no one stood a chance. A few people even had ugly happy tears. This trilogy was a treasure. I hope you all enjoy it.
Many do not realize just how significant this was. A King is not the chosen representative of a country, he the embodied soveriegnity of his country (Ruling Queens as well). If it had been President Aragorn making that gesture it would been a powerfull gesture from the leader of a country. From King Aragorn it's a powerfull honor bestowed by the Kindom. When a president bows, a leader bows, when a King bows a whole Kindom bows. As powerfull as this scene is, knowing that takes it up a notch to me. "My friends you bow to no one". A kings decree binds every noble. And high is place of honor he places these hobbits in.
It is one of the best and magical sequences in cinema history when everyone including the king is bowing to the hobbits! But still it has a slight chuckle in it when you look at Pippins face like he wants to say "That's right, kneel you peasants!"
As king of the lands of the Lost Kingdom of Arnor as well as Gondor, Aragorn declared the Shire a Free and protected land, giving the Hobbits power over who could enter their lands. Some of the details they couldn't include from the books just add so much more weight to things.
Magic Magy reaction of the trilogy is top tier. Watching two close friends react to Sam and Frodo in the last third of Return of the King hits so much harder.
Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, which is primarily covered in The Silmarillion. JRR Tolkein's estate did not issue any filming rights for The Silmarillion. So Amazon could only use references mentioned in The Lord of the Rings, which was basically just a few names, a few locations, a few dates. The story isn't different because they suck. It's different because they were required by law to make up something new. Copyright law in the UK lasts 70 years. So in 2043 the copyright on The Silmarillion expires and its free to be adapted. Should expect a large influx of Middle Earth related movies/shows to come out in 19 years, if the filming rights don't get sold before then.
And suddenly they're the tallest people around but they have no idea how to take it in. You can have great & powerful advisors like Gandalf, great & powerful commanders such as Aragorn, Elrond, Theoden, amazing soldiers like Faramir, Eomer, Legolas & Gimli but without your basic soldiers like Frodo, Sam, Merry & Pippin you have nothing. Against all odds it's your least likely comrades who will end up doing the amazing feats & this scene would've made J.R.R. Tolkien proud
He had to see his wife go to the Grey Havens before him because she needed to go to heal her mind, body & spirit after a tragic event involving Orcs, he knows his daughter & sons are staying in Middle Earth to eventually die & he has to carry this news to his wife who's just really begun to heal...yeah no surprise he's trying not to break down
To Eriwyn who gave up immortality for the man she loved, do not bow your head for you are my equal. To the Hobbits, who showed more courage than any man, you bow to no one.
A bit of advice: never name a beloved cat “Frodo”. A time will come when you will never be able to watch these films again because you may 💀 of a broken heart 😞💔
