51:07 This convo on childhood drinks got me thinking. I think i'm slightly older than the hosts, but our household drink for three kids was Hi-C, however, it came in a- there's no other way to describe it- large soup can, like some depression era ration. You'd puncture each side with a specific type of can opener that made triangle holes, for a smooth pour. i felt so mature when mom let me puncture the holes and pour myself

There were wild horses in Middle-Earth! Aredhel was riding a horse when she met Eol in the forest in Beleriand! The Noldor didn't bring horses either from Valinor because most of them had to walk through the Helcaraxe. And werent Gil-Galad's messengers riding? We saw dead horses in the frame when the barrow-wights were dragging them off screen. But... details!😂😂😂😂😅😂 i do enjoy House of R and RofP!

The Siege of Eregion is going to bring lots of exciting meetings. Elrond is going to swing by Durin's. Galadriel is going to see Celebrimbor. Sauron is going to reunite with Morgoth's crown. Arondir is going to hug Damrod. Gil-galad is going to show us his spear. It is the place to be.

When you were discussing the scene with Miriel and the sea snake, you kept talking about the look that passed between them, but the point is that Miriel couldn't see it. I think the lack of fear in her eyes is part of the reason why the it didn't harm her.

There's a lot of attention on that statue of Fëanor. Almost as if it is going to be ripped down (as per visions/trailers) for another more gruesome monument to be raised in its place. Maybe the image of one great elf-smith replaced by another?

That weird nostalgia-play turning Gandalf’s line to Frodo, about how killing people as a punishment is wrong, into a Tom Bombadil line (of all people) to not-Gandalf about how maybe he should NOT save his friends, made my soul hurt
Of the long list of poorly misused LOTR lines in this show, this was by far the wildest and worst

    • @TheDanEdwards
      @TheDanEdwards หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It did strike me as an odd use of those sentences. OTOH, the premise of Tolkien is that there is an eternal mystery with an eternal pantheon of super-beings who do mysterious things, some of which may strike us as evil. The Problem of Evil, in this case, is that the Stranger is forced to make a choice that will doom his friend and if he chooses to save his friend then he dooms all of Middle-earth. So the phrase "can you give it to them", about those who should have lived instead of died, does apply here.

My theory: The Dark Wizard is Saruman! He was in Rhun along with the Blue Wizards, and was studying Sauron and Ring magic at that time. Also the facial structure and coloring of the actor matches the earlier physical appearance of Saruman. Tom Bombadil confirms that the Dark Wizard is an Istar and not a human sorcerer.

About violence in Jackson's LOTR movies - there's lots of it, but people become so numb to it that it doesn't register in conversations. And I have always suspected that one reason some people like those movies is exactly because of the violence and gore. If you watch reactors here on TH-cam you can observe that.

Galadriel doesn't say that Sauron doesn't need armies at all - she says that to bend minds to his will he does not need armies but rings, sure, but this is in addition to what she explains before that - she says he seeks to rule NOT ONLY through conquest (by force/army) but also through manipulation. So both armies and rings. That was my reading anyway.

Seriously, there is nothing more cozy and fun then to work on my art while listening to you two talk for hours about the newest episode 😊
    Anyway, some things:
    - are you sure there were no horses in Middle-earth before the Numenorian´s brought them at the end of the 2nd Age? During the first Age we have Luthien being kidnapped by Celegorm and Curufin, who were on horses. Rian went on horsback to look for her son Turin, meanwhile her daughter Niennor was thrown of her own horse. It is most likely that traveling on horsback came out of fashion durring the S.A.
    - did you notice how, when Adar brings out Morgoth´s crown, Galadriel tries to move as much as possible away from it, like its mere presence still holds something of that original evil in it?
    - don´t think that Sauron “called upon” the Balrog during his visit to Khaza-dum, he probably just sensed its presence
    - Uinnen was one of the Maiar (angels), and yes she was the protector of all who find themselves on stormy seas- hence why her statue in the prison kinda does make sense, if you are in prison it means you are “lost at sea” and in “dangerouse waters”
    - the conversation about the Secret Fire was interesting, especially when you know that the only master of it is Eru Iluvatar, the One Creator.

This week was nearly unlistenable - the constant immature sex references (which would have appalled Tolkien and if any of that makes it into the series would be totally opposite to the courtly romance tone of the books, which are entirely sex-less), inside jokes, cheap and easy pop culture references you laugh at way too much given how tired and played out they are on your pod and all over the Ringer, and the incessant fits of giggling and unnecessary yelling - you all make a lot of very insightful commentary and have plenty of serious and intelligent points. and frankly there's not a lot of it out there on this show, so it is so disappointing that you have to have to make it so hard to listen to the podcast by spending 1/3 or more of it acting like a pair of 13 year olds that just got out of sex ed and took some whippets

You cannot simply "buy" good story telling and that is what makes a good movie, trilogy or series. It requires talent. Tolkien had it, Jackson has it but Bezos does not. T.R.O.P sucks because the people who are making it are untalented, woke hacks who Bezos bought cheap and the results are unsurprising. What is surprising is how many supposed reviewers/studio shills continue to put lipstick on this pig in the hopes that no one will notice......it's still a pig. Those "goody bags" they receive from the studios must contain some goody stuff for them to continue sullying their "reputation". Bezos tried to buy his way into the Middle Earth legacy without any understanding of the dedication Tolkien fans have for his genius. T.R.O.P. is C.R.A.P. simply put. This abomination will never be included in the Middle Earth Legendarium. I would hope Bezos would realize his mistake and pull the plug on it but being a megalomaniac (god-like self-image) it seems will not allow it. So we may actually have to not watch the full 5 seasons to come. At any rate, it will, like a virus, run its course and disappear from site forever.......hopefully. There has always been an unsophisticated audience for badly written, badly acted and badly directed shows.....like this one. Many of whom appear in the comments below.
