@@ClavainRS its also due in part to the suit, I'm pretty sure its meant to be heavy and cumbersome which is why he is always walking and he always fights one handed. Vader is entirely reliant on the suit and the force to stay alive but also to be more powerful.

I predict Obi-Wan will need to close/cover his eyes to fight Vader later in the series, to trust the force not his fear. It also connects to him telling Luke “Your eyes can deceive you; don’t trust them”
As a kid, terrified of Vader, I pictured him so powerful in the Dark Side, and so twisted, that instead of simply choking his enemies, he could toy with them; dragging them along by their hair, throwing them up against walls, even ripping their heads clean off with the Force. Last night, we saw the true brutality of Darth Vader, the villain that haunted the darkest imaginations of our childhood. A surprise, but a welcome one to be sure.
Those screams from Ewan during the burning scene were so haunting, it brought me right back to when I was 7-9 watching revenge of the Sith with my dad and saw anakin burn too
The real reason for Threepio's silver leg is that on the first filming day Anthony Daniels made his way to set and first step he took that leg shattered, the plastic cutting into his foot. The quick replacement was silver, as they didn't have the chance to spray it gold. Also explains Threepio's slight limp, due to the damage caused to Anthony Daniels' foot.
That’s not true, it was silver to make the universe appear more “lived in”, to hint at off screen stories. Anthony Daniels didn’t even realize the leg was silver until one of the last days of shooting when a photographer asked him why he was wearing a silver leg that day. This is all from Anthony Daniels himself in an interview with Wired
@@lovelyhawaiigal Yeah, I’m just saying that we’re now seeing Vader at (presumably) his most monstrous and vengeful. It’s making him in the OT seem at least somewhat more measured and a bit colder, with increasing confusion once he learns of Luke.
I honestly feel like Vader in this episode basically says to the more younger star wars fans who weren't born yet when the original trilogy came that this is how people who were kids during the original trilogy releases saw Vader as this completely intimidating and terrifying threat
This episode made me scared of Vader once again. I mean the way he just brutally murders random people just to get Obi-Wan's attention is disturbing. Not to mention how he very clearly wanted to keep Obi-Wan alive to torture him over and over again just makes me feel sick to my stomach. Not to mention them really going out of the way showing the constant living hell it must be in and out of his suit.

@@oXRaptorzXo No he does not like the hunt. I could link many sources, but Vader is cold calculated and absolutely ruthless. Unlike Sidious, he is not sadistic. He's depressed. Fuels himself with self-hatred. He OBSESSES over Obi-Wan, and when he sees him he would absolutely go beast mode and no way let him out of his sight, risking losing him again (even if the planet is "lockdown"). Unless we get a good explanation next week, I stand by this.
@@lorenzog7811 Vader does not care about Quinlan, or the other rebels, this has been shown time and time again in multiple different materials of Star Wars. He would kill his troopers to chase his personal vendettas.
When I watched the episode a thought came to me about how Ezra and Kannen become better at lightsaber duals is because they had each other to practice and why the inquisitors were so much better at sabre combat is because they actively used their blades and the Jedi did not use them in hiding, making them easier to hunt and kill
One word I got from seeing Vader in this episode: RUTHLESS. The way he cocks his head like a predator that spotted its prey is scary. I’m only a casual SW viewer and don’t know much about the characters but seeing Obi-Wan in Vader’s grip and knowing the latter could end him in a second but continues to prolong his suffering is just hGggHhhgh. Waiting for the next ep!
It tripped me out when I saw the room with the window parts out to Mustafar. I coincidentally designed a room with a similar look in my Vader animation lmao.
Everyone is rightly focused on Vader’s “I am what you made me” line, but i love the connection between Obi Wan’s “what have you become” line and Maul’s “look what has become of you” line in their final showdown in Rebels. In Rebels, Kenobi has had time to think on this meeting with Vader and comes up with his own clever/sassy response “look what I’ve risen above”. Love the connection and growth there
Obi-wan saying "you were like my brother Anakin!" in revenge of the sith and then saying he knew he had a brother when he was young that he doesn't remember is all the more pain and hurt he must be going through because he had the brother he never had through Anakin. Such emotion
Vader let Ben go to trace “the path,” to Jabim. He knows that help must be extinguished. Much like he let the Falcon and Ghost go to track back to larger prey.
I've watched a number of videos on this episode now and I'm a bit surprised no one seems to have mentioned the control to turn the laser gate off looks quite similar to one of the controls Obi-Wan used to turn the tractor beam off on the Death Star (Episode IV). Not identical but I thought it was interesting that they both turned the power off in that way.
@@ahs3129 why make it that easy? If you look at any movie that involves a barrier/gate manned by guards, there's always a way to "walk around" it. but first of course you have to shoot the guards and blow the guard house to kingdom-come.
That is not a rematch, Here is what I know from concept arts, Obi Wan and Vader will have a fight in a fire filled place but definetly not Mustafar, so I guess this is in a place where loads of vintrium is scattered, Obi wan will defeat vader but does not kill him due to his plans and will escape
"HELLO THERE." Erik Voss never failed to bless our days and nights, Episode 4, 5, and 6 will no doubt blow us out of the water. "I am what you made me." That line is ice cold, most impressive!
Those Jedi lightsaber and youngling helmets could be the inquisitors when they were still in the Jedi order and so they have them as trophies to remind them of how the Jedi failed them and their reason for hunting the Jedi.
The flames also parallel the pyre at the end of ROTJ. It’s also fitting that Obi was with Leia when he sees this Vader for the first time and then with Luke for the last time.
The moment when Vader dragger Obi Wan through the fire reminded me of the scene where Saruman wipes the floor with Gandalf in his tower. It weighs heavy seeing a master and hero getting beaten up like that. Great impact
Obi-Wan talking about the force like a safe light is a deepcut to Kotor 2. I'm paraphrasing but the Exile can say to the Handmaiden "It's like feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin for the first time, without its harshness."
The thing i thought of was the shot of Vader with the flames in front of him reminds me of when Luke burned Vader up after his death. Vader did it for torture and Luke did it for good reasons.
I just wanna point out when Vader is standing over Kenobi and swings his saber down at him repeatedly, it mirrors Luke doing the same to Vader in Return of the Jedi after Luke gains the upper hand.
I'll have to rewatch ep4 but I think Kenobi closes his eyes prior to giving himself up to the force. Gives this reference of closing your eyes to find the way more significance.
I was thinking that when obi sees anakin a ghost in the brown robes he is imagining him as he would be now as an older anakin if he had not been burned. He has no idea what he has become until he sees him and says that line. He knows anakin burned but he is remembering him as he would want to see him.
I got the impression that Vader crushed the holocron, with the children's locations, because he was afraid Sidious was seeking a replacement for him, not because he didn't want more inquisitors.
@@Scorpy666 Darth Vader at his peak is 80% as powerful as Sidious according to George Lucas. Furthermore, he had the potential to be far more powerful than Darth Sidious before the Mustafar incident, but once that happened his potential dropped significantly.
@@ZmanGamesp However, if he had a suit that was actually designed to help him and fix his injuries, he would still be pretty close to his original potential. With a good suit, he would be way more powerful than an akin could ever have been as a jedi
I loved this episode and honestly the true villainy of Vader. One thing I do wonder is whether or not Vader could see into Obi Wans mind and sense that Vader has a daughter and son. Maybe Obi Wan was so weak as to fight Vader physically but fought mentally as in he was protecting Luke and Leias identity in his mind from Vader

I think they did a good job portraying Vader, at least in this episode. The entire scene even when he showed up, I was scared for Obi-Wan, Leia, and any other innocent character when he was in their presence. It was intense and my heart was racing all the way through. If you're scared of a fictional character like Vader, it means whoever directed this actually did a great job to help portray him.
Fallen Order was scarier than this because YOU were the one playing the character run from Vader rather than seeing a character played by another actor run from Vader.
My favorite part was (Im paraphrasing): "Who cares about the Grand Inquisitor, he means nothing" 3 seconds later: "Do this for me and you'll be Grand Inquisitor"
Another overlooked detail: In their duel here, Vader and Obi Wan lock blades and Vader force pushes him out of the saber lock - a move he learned from Obi Wan and they used on each other in their Mustafar battle. Obi Wan didn’t see his own move coming: he’s definitely lost a step.

@@ClavainRS its also due in part to the suit, I'm pretty sure its meant to be heavy and cumbersome which is why he is always walking and he always fights one handed. Vader is entirely reliant on the suit and the force to stay alive but also to be more powerful.
This episode was exciting and terrifying. Vader will always be the most menacing and dangerous villain in the entertainment industry.
I love how the episodes paralleled the movies the 1st episode is on tatooine, 2nd takes place in a dark city similar to the start of the 2nd movie , and the 3rd one we get obi wan vs Vader
Agreed. Last one was like ROTS.
I predict Obi-Wan will need to close/cover his eyes to fight Vader later in the series, to trust the force not his fear. It also connects to him telling Luke “Your eyes can deceive you; don’t trust them”
Sounds good.
Sounds like what spidey did in the end of far from home hahaha
I don’t think they’ll face off again.
@@danielmora3843 they will, they will
@@danielmora3843 they are supposed to one more time
I thought it was cool they showed anakin in those robes because outside of his limbs obi really has no idea what Vader looks like until they meet
Did you not watch rogue one? The last few minutes of that are the best vadar footage yet. This episode was also great though.
I was never terrified of him when I was a kid watching the OT. I only became terrified of him through The Force Unleashed, Rogue One, and now this.
I never kneeeeew !!!!
That’s actually really interesting
That’s not true, it was silver to make the universe appear more “lived in”, to hint at off screen stories.
Anthony Daniels didn’t even realize the leg was silver until one of the last days of shooting when a photographer asked him why he was wearing a silver leg that day.
This is all from Anthony Daniels himself in an interview with Wired
I’ve never seen someone type 3PO like that 😂💀
While it is true Anthony Daniels cut his foot in the costume, that was not the reason for the silver leg.
Loved this episode. The way they portrayed vader Is just perfect
Vader is going to figure out with his recent fight with Kenobi that he wasn't the one that "killed" the grand Inquisidor
The Grand Inquisitor means nothing! All that matters is Kenobi . Is that Understood?
Vader knows now that Reva lied. Vader would have expected a real fight from Obi-wan if he had actually killed the Grand Inquistor.
@@cardwizard that's what I meant
Killed
Absolutely love your content, I always look forward to your videos after each episode
By the time Luke sensed good in him, it might have been an ounce. But here, I’d be stunned if it was even a quark.
With Obi in front of him? Vader is all out of fucks to give.
True, but then again, that was Luke, his SON, not the "brother from another mother" who left him for dead and turned him literally into a monster.
My first thought was that when obi wan mentioned his “brother”, it was him subtly mentioning Anakin who obi wan often called his brother
Probably both! That conversation was full of double meaning
Kenobi is dealing with so much pain
He’s gonna have to re-connect with the force & center himself.
16:05 was my favorite part of that episode. The way EW says “the way” was amazing. I thought of Taoism there.
This episode was perfect, I love how Vader was toying kenobi and it felt like he enjoyed chasing and terrorizing kenobi. He defiantly let him go cause he could have easily moved the fire or force pulled him or some shi
It was out of character for Vader to let him go.
@@damandarin5415 he let him go so obi wan could lead him to other quarry like Vos
@@damandarin5415 he likes the hunt. It’s what fuels him. Without him he would have nothing to do
@@oXRaptorzXo No he does not like the hunt.
I think when Vader says 'your pain has just begun' when obiwan is burning hints towards how his pain never stopped after what happened at mustafar
When obi wan saw anakin I knew that was Vader making him see his old self as a “remember me obi wan”
Reva is in revenge mode, doing whatever possible to get close enough to Vader to kill him - book it!
But why tho?
He would surely sense a hidden agenda to kill him?
Obi Wan using a blaster also shows how much he has distanced himself from the Jedi code as well as the Force.
He sure was an excellent shot for someone who disliked blasters!
@@inlonging Yes he is but he chose not to use one during the prequel era. Only reason he uses it now in order to hide his Jedi identity.
Literally couldn’t wait until this came out today!!
It tripped me out when I saw the room with the window parts out to Mustafar. I coincidentally designed a room with a similar look in my Vader animation lmao.
true story!
Love the connection and growth there
Where the video at? It just says no stream
Like this so Voss can see it and fix it

Like Deez nut
Obi-wan saying "you were like my brother Anakin!" in revenge of the sith and then saying he knew he had a brother when he was young that he doesn't remember is all the more pain and hurt he must be going through because he had the brother he never had through Anakin. Such emotion
The fact that Obi-Wan almost got burned is scary, this episode was so good

Too little to be that scary
His arm begs to differ about "almost".

That rematch was definitely a 1st round TKO loss for Obi-Wan.
Rematch? Don't flatter obi-wan.
This is more like a tiger hunting a fly.

Erik Voss never failed to bless our days and nights, Episode 4, 5, and 6 will no doubt blow us out of the water.

That line is ice cold, most impressive!
Those Jedi lightsaber and youngling helmets could be the inquisitors when they were still in the Jedi order and so they have them as trophies to remind them of how the Jedi failed them and their reason for hunting the Jedi.
The next ten years will sure be tough on Obi-Wan and Anakin. Both of them will look MUCH older in the original trilogy !
14:25 that is also the same Holocron that Cal Kestis has to find in Jedi Fallen Order Jocasta gave that list to Cordova
they made vader freaking menacing holy. i do still want the epic fight to happen like the reimagined one, would be fire with even cgi.
Obi Wan's struggle to reconnect with the force and his reliance on "uncivilized" technology reminds me of Kyle Katarn.
Jedi academy was so dope
Vader snapping that kids neck was insane👀
10:07 I am sure it has been said but his brother in the original ROTJ screenplay was Owen
I want a stand-alone Clone Wars one-off movie adaptation of Dark Disciple! I wants it!!! Let’s make it happen!
as soon as he said quinlan i was like, YES! DO DARK DESCIPLE!! i though ventress would have to be perfect or i might freak out, haha.
Gives this reference of closing your eyes to find the way more significance.
yeah he does!
Terence McKenna & Alan Watts
Yoooooo that's deep
I was thinking that when obi sees anakin a ghost in the brown robes he is imagining him as he would be now as an older anakin if he had not been burned. He has no idea what he has become until he sees him and says that line. He knows anakin burned but he is remembering him as he would want to see him.
A name you missed that was in Tala's safehouse was "Caleb Dume", suggesting that Kanan Jarrus was one of the Jedi that used the Path to get to safety.
Retcon? What retcon? The Great Inquisitor in Kenobi and the GI in Rebels are clearly two different people.
vader stared into the fire the same way Luke did when he died
It's like poetry, it rhymes
When Vader said, _"I am what you made me,"_ it reminded me of when the Joker said to Batman, "You _made_ me, remember?" in the 1989 Batman film.
This is the exact way I wanted Vader portrayed!!
I got the impression that Vader crushed the holocron, with the children's locations, because he was afraid Sidious was seeking a replacement for him, not because he didn't want more inquisitors.
Same thing really
There was no replacement. Vader is stronger than sidious himself.
@@Scorpy666 Darth Vader at his peak is 80% as powerful as Sidious according to George Lucas. Furthermore, he had the potential to be far more powerful than Darth Sidious before the Mustafar incident, but once that happened his potential dropped significantly.
Cal Kestis destroyed the holicron not Vader
@@ZmanGamesp However, if he had a suit that was actually designed to help him and fix his injuries, he would still be pretty close to his original potential. His suit is what dropped his potential so much. It slows his movement, and distracts him with pain to dampen his abilities, as well as losing force lightning as an option. With a good suit, he would be way more powerful than an akin could ever have been as a jedi
Also with the shot with obiwan in the background and Vader up front, it mimics the youngling scene from episode 3
Mine says no stream tap to retry but isnt working
I loved this episode and honestly the true villainy of Vader. One thing I do wonder is whether or not Vader could see into Obi Wans mind and sense that Vader has a daughter and son. Maybe Obi Wan was so weak as to fight Vader physically but fought mentally as in he was protecting Luke and Leias identity in his mind from Vader
He shouldn't because he doesn't find out about Luke until the Emperor tells him in the Empire Strikes Back. He doesn't find out about Leia until he reads it from Luke's mind in their final duel.
I like the thought process, but I don’t think so. He was so freaking scared and shameful at that moment, I doubt Leia or Luke were in his mind at all.
@@AbstractM0use Boba Fett tells him of his son actually
@@justinhearin8616 Is that from one of the comics? I'm talking about the films when the Emperor tells him Luke is the son of Anakin Skywalker. I'm sure they've retconned that, but I don't read the comics.

Obi Wan's facial expressions when he 1st sees Darth Vader is awesome. The fear he shows when watching him made me afraid. It's like he knows he has to run but he can't help but watch what he's become.
The force sensitive child hunt initiated by the empire is also seen in Star Wars Rebels!
I remember that one episode from Rebels where Fifth Brother, and another Inquisitor, Seventh Sister, were kidnapping Force-sensitive infants.

As extra interest, the Commandant in charge of the Arkanis Academy was Brendol Hux, who was the father of Armitage Hux from the sequel trilogy (Armitage being his illegitimate son).
I appreciate how these guys connect all the dots sprinkled all over as most other Star Wars youtubers tend to jump the gun and say they don’t like this or that. Star Wars is always deeper than the initial impression
I don't think The Way refers to The Way from the Mandalorian because they didn't play the Mandalorian theme
I think this is the scariest I’ve ever seen Vader in any Star Wars content like in the movies and in the shows and in the games like fallen order
Fallen Order was scarier than this because YOU were the one playing the character run from Vader rather than seeing a character played by another actor run from Vader.
Your analysis is next level. I wait for your videos instead of watching the ones that come out right away
Vader’s red eye lenses are so sick
Obi-Wan needs to have a rocky montage with master Qui-Gon next episode
My favorite part was (Im paraphrasing):
"Who cares about the Grand Inquisitor, he means nothing"
3 seconds later:
"Do this for me and you'll be Grand Inquisitor"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another overlooked detail:
In their duel here, Vader and Obi Wan lock blades and Vader force pushes him out of the saber lock - a move he learned from Obi Wan and they used on each other in their Mustafar battle.
Obi Wan didn’t see his own move coming: he’s definitely lost a step.
