People like to forget about when Luke force chokes that guard in ROTJ.
I've always thought adout that and never understood it.
Cuz Luke started embracing dark usages of the force but without being tempted to succumb entirely.
Sort of like how Mace Windu invented Vaapad, which is allowing anger and hatred to flow through you while fighting to make you more effective. Like Mace, Luke never fully transitioned to the dark side, he merely sampled it.

This is a really late comment *but*, in an interview about return of the jedi roughly 30 years ago, Lucas stated that Luke didn’t force choke the pigman thingies but he mind-tricked them to think that they were being force choked. I have no idea what the difference is honestly but it seems less dark than if he actually force-choked him.

There is also a link to Episode 1; The Phantom Menace when a young Anakin Skywalker called Qui Gon Jinn’s lightsaber a “laser sword” a lot like Luke did in this film.
The use of "laser sword" is also a call back to anakin calling it that in episode one, implying the need for a hero or a legend is childish...and a path to the dark side

Honestly it’s probably since he’s reading a long and fast script, the pronouncing of them are simple mistakes.
Yoda being serious in the prequals makes sense. He grew more humble in his exile, turning him into the more funny, down to earth Yoda in Empire and Return. His failure and the failure of the Jedi helped him not take everything so seriously.
from ben's pov, he might've felt abandoned by his father and mother. then, the one person he trusted, appears to be, trying to kill him in his sleep. his fight always seemed personal, not sith allegiance.

I still think that Ben-Kylo turn is weak, this tale had so much potential to be explained by Luke panicking, reacting badly and shit hits the fan and we forget about the knights of Ren.

Gotta love how the mutiny and Finn's side plot wouldn't have happened if Admiral Holdo had just shared her plan with Poe. I’m a massive fan and you can tell that Voss is digging deep to not let his true feelings shine through on this one. What a pro. Rian Johnson is a great director but he isn’t a Star Wars fan. That’s the one thing that really shone through in this film. This movie in a vacuum is actually great but it’s crap for overall Skywalker story/saga development.

I think in the cave scene, the line of Reys could represent the path of the dark side. When Rey went down that path to the end, she realized that the dark side couldn't give her what she wanted.

Your right about RotS. When Anakin turns on Mace Windu and joins the dark side really was an emotional moment in the movie. And when Obi-Wan tells Anakin he was supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness. That was a little bit of a tear jerker for me even though I knew it was going to happen. Thank god Ewan McGregor nailed his part as Obi-Wan in a bad trilogy.

Yes, it embodies the concept of balance between light and dark. So the meaning is there, just redesigned to be particular to the Jedi.
The term ‘laser sword’ has been in Star Wars before, canon. It was said in Phantom Menace. So first it could be a call back to that movie rather than some non-canon script, and I don’t get why everyone made a huge deal about it. George Lucas says it and he put it in a Star Wars movie, so it’s not an issue...at all.

Now there's no antagonist that can come close to beating Rey. Kylo has already lost to her twice. I feel like they could just end the story here and move on to the next series of movies.
Ironocy this is exactly how I feel. The movie was all over. Improper use of Luke, improper use of Yoda, improper use of who Snoke is/was. There were so many opportunities here, and the director did not use one of them. I’m ok with Rey storyline, but not how they just killed snoke and how they used Luke. Basically she didn’t even have to visit him. She still will need to learn on her own. Luke basically just helped them escape, and that was all he contributed. This was by far the worst movie.

We have many times seen both Jedi and Sith utilize The Force to levitate objects...for once a Force-Sensitive applied levitation to HERSELF in order to save herself.
