Just a note: she wasn’t posing as an imperial officer, but rather joined the empire to then be disgusted by what she saw. Think that is important for her character
She was obviously in disguise. It doesn't make sense that she just left the empire minutes ago and decided to help a jedi. She obviously talked about the past when she said that she used to work for the empire but then left because she was not fighting for the right side. Her having worked for the empire gave her the opportunity to pose as an officer. You really don't believe that she just decided out of the blue to help them and lead them to a SECRET hideout from the rebels that she shouldn't even know, right?
I like Ewan but IMO he has had a single face all three episodes this far. This feels like a B movie or a prequel trilogy revisit. I was expecting a new level of quality and depth. So far so little.
I wasn't a fan of the casting at the time. I said to myself .. they're casting the Trainspotting guy .. that'll never work. Boy was I wrong and his growth as an actor and of the character in the 20 years since has his portrayal lined up perfectly to Alec Guinness version in ep 4.

James Earl Jones doesn’t get enough credit for the voice of Vader. The guy is 91 and thankfully he’s still with us to lend us his voice, truly amazing.
He sounds better than he did in Rogue one. I personally thought his age was affected his voice. They made such progress since rogue one with using the old recordings of Luke and stringing together. Perhaps they either did that now or they enhanced it some.
@Call Me Nimble00 definitely voices change over time. Mine hasn’t yet, I was told several times “you sound the same as you were at 11”. No one will answer when I press lol But definitely my dad’s voice changed over time yet my moms husky smoker’s voice stayed the same my entire life until she passed away in her late seventies.
I felt like during Vader’s walk through the village he could sense Obi-Wan was watching and the scene angles changed to make it seem like he was looking into directly at Kenobi, this gave me the feeling that he was looking into his soul and trying to create intense fear in him which made the scene a lot more impactful in my opinion

Vader actually scared me. Him walking and snapping necks was brutal. Really really enjoyed hearing James’s iconic voice again. Not the end of the series yet so I’m forgiving any small things and just gonna enjoy being able to see him again :)
It was definitely ANH Vader voice using a computer like they did with Luke In Mandolorian. Listen to James Earl Jones’ voice in Rogue One. It has changed with age-dude is 91!
Just checked Vader number 3 all time movie villain behind Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates ...anyone watching this ep could argue he might have moved up to number 1.
To me Vader was not "timid" at all. It seemed very obvious that he left Kenobi escape. There is a long shot focusing on his helmet when the fire separates them and the droid helps him and it is there for a reason. Although we can’t see his facial expressions that shot shows us that Vader decides to not pursue Kenobi because he is disappointed with the fight Kenobi is giving and he wants a real revenge. Solid first fight but excited to see the final and bigger fight.

I was honestly super disappointed with Episode 3. Grand Inquisitor confirmed, in conflict with comics and rebels Obi-Wan being a complete pushover Vader should have been an episode 4 thing, with the Leia trap. Reva defies physics and sense, somehow beating Leia to the other side of the tunnel
I love how Vader is toying with Obi Wan. Killing people randomly just to send fear to Kenobi. The entire moment you could tell Vader knew Obi Wan was hiding then and there.
"Toying" is the perfect word to describe what Vader was doing with Obi-Wan. When Vader saw how weak Obi-Wan had become, I believe that is when he decided that he didn't need to rush his revenge.
@@Butterking99 no it’s just stupid. Vader would just murder obi wan first chance he gets like he does in a new hope and how he tried in RotS. This whole “he’s toying with him” thing is so stupid and contrived.
@@billymanziel5666 yeah but having Vader do a double take because hes weak and wants to fight him makes more sense than toying imo it gives vader more depth as a character vs straight up killing him but also gives him a reason not too most people missed that i think
At first, I thought it was weird that Vader just didn't douse the flames at first either, but looking back, he didn't seem surprised when the lady shot the stormtrooper, usually when Vader is surprised he does that little head snap. I think Vader let Obi-Wan go on purpose, to prolong the chase, and to prolong Obi-Wan's suffering. The chase is apart of Obi-Wan's suffering, because if he just caught Obi-Wan, yeah he can torture him, but the chase is done. The chase is a huge part of torture, the stress, the phycological dread of being caught. Vader knows exactly what he's doing, and wants to make Obi-Wan suffer in every way, physically and mentally. He may even plan on following Kenobi to track down Kenobi's friends, as you speculated, he may want to kill them in front of him. I believe Vader let Obi-Wan go on purpose, all for the sake of prolonging his suffering.
Ye I completely agree. Also the fact he has now seen what obi wan has become and how much he overpowers him vader might not see him as the threat he used to be, especially now that vader has become so much powerful than when they last met. So in an almost arrogant way he can afford to let him go because all obi wan can do is run and hide and like you said thats part of the suffering
I was thinking the same thing. It's part of his character to not be overly emotional so it doesn't seem exactly like Maul because he was all about revenge. Vader has no reason to rush it.
They made vader terrifying in this episode, just the whole stalking ben part where vader kept popping out of nowhere like jason from fri the 13th was just epic, i loved it
@@truthdetector4036 The fact that the fight was weaker is because obi wan has been out of training for a quite a while now, he left his jedi powers years back when he went into hiding. Jedi were as strong as they were because of the constant training and discipline that they kept every second of every day. Obi wan is weak at the moment, but i suspect that will change as the days go on
@@truthdetector4036 I think the fight is deliberately bad. obi-wan has completely abandoned the ways of the force for 10 years at this point. to him the Jedi order is over and his only priority was to watch over Luke. Vader deliberately let him go and cut the chase after the fire scene because he realised how weak obi wan had become and probably wanted a fair rematch. my guess is that obi wan is going to realise he is going to have to adopt the ways off the force again and train in order to defend himself now that he has been revealed and is being chased down
It was pretty clear to me that Vader chose to let them escape. Whether that’s to track him and kill the others with him, to continue to toy with him and keep him in fear, he was unsatisfied with the duel and how easy it was to beat Obi-Wan, or some combination of those. We all know he could have easily killed them all there. He was clearly easily overpowering Kenobi, they had just shown him using the force to put out a fire, and the way they framed it so you could see him watching them help him.

Just doesn't match Vader . He is obsessed with obi wan. Waiting 10 years for this exact moment. Just to let his friends help him? That's just not how it would go down.
@@nippz2831 he was enraged but seeing his enemy that he hyped up in his head for years turning out so weak definitely disappointed him. He literally says the years had made him weak. Vader knows he will find obi wan again.
I really like how scared Obi Wan is when he realizes Vader is on the planet hunting him. It’s a great contrast to A New Hope when Obi Wan is contempt losing to Vader cause he is at peace knowing he completed his mission of putting Luke on the Jedi path
Because that Obi-Wan is a wiser Obi-Wan, at that point he has let go of the trauma of the Clone Wars and he is no longer as confused, depressed and hopeless as he is in this show, only time teaches us to let go of some things, plus he completed his mission to bring Luke down the path of the Jedi, he could finally find his peace and so he did.
Well anyone would be scared if they haven't been with the force for 10+ years. Vadar was actually training, hunting down thousands of Jedi during the 10 years, so Vadar's skills and power would make Jedi, even Yoda if he was there be scared shitless if they haven't been with the force in 10 years. This is why in my Theory Obi Won will get his powers back and actually beat Vadar, and if he does in fact beat Vadar, it will also make him at more ease knowing that if he can still beat him until Luke is ready to go on the Jedi path.
Fallen Order shows how guilt can take a toll on even the best of Jedi Masters. Cere Junda was weak but things changed when she started to forgive herself. Obi-Wan isn't quite there yet and we're still in the third episode.
The mention of Kenobi’s family is quite interesting and could potentially answer why Reva is so interested in Kenobi. Perhaps he was the one to take Reva from her family all those years ago and she still holds that against him.

The best part of Vader is that while wearing a mask, and not speaking much, the audience can still sense his thoughts and emotions. A truly special character.
I love the little “Anakin-isms” in Vader’s presence, from how he walks (as you mentioned) to even more subtle things, such as when he’s talking to the Third Sister, and his head moves ever so slightly when he was discussing with her. I felt that it was very Anakin like.
I was waiting the whole time to hear Vader grunt and make those gutty sounds Anakin made as he fought..and man was it awesome hearing Vader give out those angry grunts as hacked and slashed at Kenobis guard..what a cool experience
I loved the "Anakin-ism" of when he snapped that one kids neck. When that happened I was like "oh hell yeah! classic Anakin still killing those younglings" lol
My favorite scene is when Obi-wan asks: "What has become of you?", and Vader replies with "What you have made me." This felt realy deep to me because Anakin realy was failed by the jedi order, and imo he sided with the sith mainly because of the way he was treated by the jedi which allowed Palpatine to groom Anakin further down the path of the sith.
I like Vader and his story arc, but I also feel like he’s very good at displacing blame. The “what you have made me” line really drives that home. There’s no taking of responsibility there, he’s just pushing all of the blame off onto the Jedi and Obi Wan and Yoda, etc. That’s ok (as far as the story is concerned), there are absolutely individuals like that in real life, and there’s a lot to like about Anakin/Vader’s story arc, but I don’t feel like the Jedi “failed” him. They were far from perfect and made plenty of mistakes, as human (or humanoid, in this galaxy) beings tend to do, but he failed himself at least as much as they failed him, and if we’re honest, he failed himself far more than they ever did.
@@phantom0456 he's like a kid that becomes a school shooter, who then becomes a nazi war criminal. I'm tired on the "poor anakin" talk. The guy just snapped a child's neck.
I don't agree. I think that line was meant to talk exclusively about Darth Vader machine suit (which means - what you made me, since you cut my freakin legs and left me to burn on Mustafar), and not about the moral choice of turning to the dark side, since Obi-Wan, of all people, isn't the major problem on the Anakin turn (it's the jedi council and the Sidious-Padmé pregnancy-dream-already lost his mother plot)
Quinlan Vos was mentioned in Revenge of the Sith as well. In the scene that Obi-Wan warns Anakin to be careful of Palpatine, he gives Anakin a short update on the status of the Outer Rim Sieges. He says in a tiny throwaway line that "Master Vos has been moved to Boz Pity". The scene happens within the first hour of the movie.
Neat. If we do get anything more on him I hope we get to see how he survived the purge. He might not have even been around, but seeing his hunter/animalistic instincts at work in a Forest against clones would be awesome.

1) I like that they actually show how much Obi- Wan loved Padme. They knew each other a long time, were close friends, something I think under explored in the prequels. I’m glad to see her mentioned so much 2) I hope they keep building Reva up as this OP character in the show if and only if we get to see Vader absolutely destroy her in the end 😂
@Дм Го I don’t really understand why they made this such a limited series. 6 episodes? Really? And some of them seem to be only 30-40 minutes long? For Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, arguably the characters fans have wanted to see the most? I’m fine with it being a limited series. But like... they couldn’t even make it 10 episodes at least? Like most shows these days? 6 episodes is just so fucking short-lived, and now that we’re watching it it’s pretty obvious that they had enough content to work with to make it longer. Oh well, I guess we should just be happy to get more at all!
But they have already shown that his love for Satine is always on his mind. In the previous episode, I think Leih was reminding him of Satine and not Padme. I don't think he loved Padme at all, atleast not romantically.
I said the same thing. I completely agree. I respect everyone’s opinion 100%. Honestly my initial watch i didn’t have an issue with this episode ending. I thought it was heavily implied that Vader allowed him to go, whether that be for the thrill of the hunt, waiting for Obi wan to recoup for a proper and more satisfying fight or simply to see if he gets lead to others. For whatever reason it seemed obvious and Vader realized quickly he was far superior as evidenced by his dialogue. He had several chances to strike and kill him but seemed to be playing with him. I’m psyched to see where it goes from here.
Personally I believe when it comes to obi-wan's escape, Vader let him escape. I propose this because just as discussed in this video Vader could have walked through the fire, put it out, or he could of snatched Kenobi from the loader bot. Vader was literally dragging Kenobi through it not even a few moments earlier so it wouldn't be hard to just do it again. Now why do I think Vader let him leave? Mainly because Kenobi was so submissive and unwilling to fight. I would imagine from Vader's standpoint he's been building this up and reflecting on their last duel for so long that this too anticlimactic for his taste. Especially seeing he's fought many other Jedi whom have shown him so much more fight than Kenobi did. So in conclusion Vader let Kenobi get away due to their anti climactic encounter in hopes that they would have a proper duel upon their next meeting. Especially since the ending of the episode suggests Reva got her hands on Leia, which would give much more motivation for Kenobi to both show up and duel him.
@@jonnyc4744 That order was given before the interruption. Vader was disappointed in Kenobi. He wasn't getting the satisfaction he lusted for. Kenobi was just a shell of his former self. He wasn't going to get the revenge he feels he deserved from this. But what to do? Kenobi wasn't going anywhere. It would look weird to everyone around if he just left him there, so of course he ordered some mook to fetch him like some wretched thing. But when the interruption and rescue happened, it gave Vader an excuse to let him go, and hopefully become something worth taking revenge upon.
No, you're thinking too hard. The writers simply don't care about believable plot, and wrote it that the most powerful force user couldn't breach a 10-foot fire. Or just, you know, walk around it... The writing in this show is embarrassing. Look at the chase scenes with Leia, ducking and weaving trained killers and Jedi. It's ridiculous.
I think that Vader was still very much afraid of Kenobi because he knew his former master was holding back. Vader couldn’t depend on plot armor like he does for everything else.
@@RemnTheteth they made a point to zoom on Vader standing there hesitating, I think it’s very clear that they mean to convey that he doesn’t want to kill kenobi yet, for whatever reason. And this guy has a really good theory why. I think you’re not thinking enough
Personally I loved how this show made Vader genuinely terrifying. That village scene was brutal! And man Obi Wan being dragged through the fire was truly awesome!
I love Hayden in the suit. I feel like he himself can engulf the rage of being the unfair poster child of why some thought the prequels were his fault. (Even though I loved them) With just his body language, he can show that terror and rage after being called a whiny diva, but that was the act he was told to play. Now he gets to take that frustration and go full sith and I like it as apart of his "redemption".
When Obi-Wan first ignited his lightsaber, it seemed very instinctive like muscle memory. When he held his lightsaber in previous episodes, it looked unnatural and you could really see he was out of practice. It seems his powers are returning slowly but surely.
@@assassin3g vaders strength reminds me of the description from bane books. Where half the issue I’m fighting him was just how hard he could connect and would quickly over power opponents this way
So many people are misunderstanding the fire scene. You clearly see Vader staring at Kenobi getting dragged away for a good 4 or 5 seconds before he purposefully turns away and leaves. He ponders on the moment and then lets him escape. This could be because he is conflicted, which the showrunner and Hayden have both said we'll get during the show, or maybe he intends to follow Kenobi to more Jedi/rebels and kill them as a way to further punish Kenobi, as he now realises that Kenobi is being helped. He isn't scared of the fire and it isn't stopping him. They literally establish a few seconds earlier that he can blow a path through the flame with the force if he so chooses. *The point is that he chooses not to.* I'm actually blown away that so many people are calling it plot holes or bad writing. Then again, Star Wars fans seem to nitpick even the tiniest of details, making mountains out of mole hills. Couple that with the separate outrage farming crowd who hate absolutely anything with disney, diversity or "wahmen" and then you have two pretty vocal groups hating on it.
I'm very surprised how people are quick to jump to conclusions without paying any attention to what's actually happening. Has the average attention span really deteriorated that much? It's clear as day to me that Vader let him escape and wasn't afraid of the fire.

We all know a couple things: 1. Overall this series has an opportunity to set-up the New Hope encounter between the two in a very awesome way. This could be done well, or leave a lot of plot holes. We're all hoping for the former. 2. Obi-wan will do something in combat or otherwise to make Vader feel as though he is still "just a learner". Or otherwise that line when they "meet again at last" about being just a learner "now I am the master" will also make no sense. 3. This series needs to end with Vader thinking Obi-wan is dead. Otherwise he'll keep hunting for him and that wouldn't align with A New Hope. I fully expect a final fight in which Obi-wan fakes out Vader/Anakin and tricks him into thinking he's dead. Hopefully it's something that makes Vader feel almost fearful of Obi-wan, as was later articulated in additional material after Vader killed Obi-wan and he disappeared (which apparently freaked out Vader). The fact that Vader steps on his cloak in a New Hope could be connected back to what they decide to do here at the end of this series. Especially if Obi-wan performs a "disappearing act" in this series at the end, that would make the moment in A New Hope even more thoughtful - in that Vader is wondering now for a second time.... IS HE REALLY DEAD THIS TIME??? I say book it. This will be connected somehow.

It was impractical, the lightsabers was too bright - it had too much illumination in the dark to the point i think it would blind you. Especially when Kenobi lit the lightsaber first, he couldn't have seen anything in front of himself.
7.8/10… My problems with this episode 1. Why no Imperial March theme in the entire episode?? That woulda helped make Vader feel so much more authentic. 2. I know they can’t kill obi wan or maybe even capture bc that would hurt the canon timeline but they coulda definitely thought of something better. 3. Whole fight scene felt kinda off, don’t get me wrong the fire scene was badass but the fight scene felt fan made 4. They kept cutting the Vader vs Obi Wan fight scene like every 20seconds to Reva and other plots which I didn’t like. Should have had one long fight scene to build more fear and realism. 5. @@mademen5234 We don't need the re hash. This is doing a great job of covering new territory, visually and sonically. We've been hearing the Imperial March since 1977
Using the psychic agony of innocents to draw out Jedi is a regular part of the Sith playbook. We saw Vader do it to Luke in Empire, to Ben here, and Maul used it to lure Obi-Wan in Clone Wars. I've seen speculation the loader droid is Wrecker. Could Tarla be Omega? Doubt it, but that would be wild. This episode is legendary. Did you catch Ben's facial twitch just before Vader sensed him? Awesome.
This was a really powerful episode. We have only ever experienced "old" Vader on screen. This episode showed us young Vader in his prime with his rage brewing and fresh. He is so brutal and merciless with only one goal in mind.
@@mrsmokingskittles148 he wasn’t brutal in rogue one, he was coldly efficient, he was a lot more brutal here, killing random people, chocking obi, throwing him around, dosing him in flames…
I just want to clear this up for people...Hayden Christensen is 💯 percent in the Darth Vader suit. He says it himself that "its a beast to wear and it gets very hot." He also talked about between takes, they would blow cold air into his suit to cool him down. Idk, I think it's just so cool that Hayden is Vader. The way he walks, the way he carries himself...he just feels right.
In one of the interviews he did (the one with the kid and the Lego xwing) he talked about how he wore a suit under the armour which they could pump cold water through. Vader is water-cooled lol
The suit should be cgi, and they should use a proper swordsman for vader, he did not lose any athletic ability whatsoever, he is perfectly able to backflip, jump and sprint just fine, this big sluggish dude who's just extremely strong we see isn't that good imo, his saber technique is clearly amateur, and the fight should of lasted the entire episode imo
@@ayydelalmao3176 I can see the same sort of disappointment and anger from you as I felt about TLJ so I get it from that angle, but I disagree. The Vader we saw in the original trilogy didn't do anything as fancy as Anakin did. It's likely his technique shifted to a slower more brutal form and his lack of combat training with other Jedi probably didn't help either, much like how Obi-Wan is out of his depth too. Not to mention that Hayden did all the swordplay in Episode III. He is inside the suit, so it is clearly an intentional decision to slow it down. They may have an actual fight in the next few episodes too
@@Keanine that was 1970/80, a humble film making crew with the only option of a heavy suit on a mortal man, vader uses the force to move, and therefore the weight of his suit shouldn't physically impede him on camera
You can literally feel the presence of Hayden in the suit. And when Obi-Wan and Vader had their little skirmish, there is just something about Hayden and Ewan fighting. They set the bar so high in ROTS. Ain't nobody can do it like them. Can't wait for part 4!
Going out on a limb here, but I think Kenobi's brother is Jedi also, but the Council kept them hidden from each other to keep their family bonds severed. Just sounds like a classic Council thing to do.
Digging deeper in, Vader later finds Kenobi's brother and kills him in front of Obi-Wan. Making him suffer. Kenobi is already in Fear, we all know what that leads to.
Don't overthink the implications of kenobi having a brother. He mentions his brother while explaining why he can relate to leia's situation with her parents. Also in the same conversation leia asked about her mother and father, but Ben also knows that she has a brother he is keeping hidden from her
This episode was amazing. If you’re someone who has ever had an anxiety attack, you can empathize with kenobi like crazy. It’s amazing he didn’t get slain in one hit from Vader, but his anxiety was still portrayed amazingly
He didn’t get slain bc Vader held back, he wants to torture, and mentally beat his old master he saw him run, not fight with confidence like on Mustafar. Vader knew Obi wan cut himself from the force to hide due to him not using it to fight back and not sensing vaders presence instead relying on his physical senses which is his downfall. Wasn’t a anxiety attack, he is a broken man who for 10 years thought he killed anakin back on mustafar not knowing Sidious revived him to the man he is now. So he’s just mentally beat up and not resorting to his vigorous years of training instilled into him from childhood. Vader could of easily without hesitation push the fire with the force when the lady blasted it with an explosive to reach obi wan instead let him flee so he can continue torturing him and beat him like Obi Wan did to Vader(when Obi wan didn’t want that to happen but Vader corrupt mind thinks Obi Wan is the villain). Very similar to a cat playing with their food first. Not a fan of this approach as if you watch 1-6 you believe that the gap of 3-4 obi wan and Vader never met since 3 hence the lines Vader said on the Death Star, We meet once again, I was once a learner when I left, now I am the master. This scene clearly shows Vader is the clear master now, I hope there is a redemption battle and obi wan fights with confidence again.
@@davis08527 the line Vader said about being a learner when he left cannot be interpreted literally since EP. 3. He was a fully trained Jedi knight by then, so there's no problem of continuity there.
Vader didn't want to kill him. He wanted Obi-Wan to feel the pain he went through. That's why he pulled him into the fire. He wants to break Obi-Wan completely before he kills him.
I feel like Vader also mostly stopped out of confusion and disappointement, seeing the once powerful Jedi reponsible for his condition just running away and being able to overpower him with one hand. After 10 years of anticipation and rage building up, he probably didn't expect Obi-Wan to give up on the force and be so powerless.
@korrok It's really not because it actually makes sense as to why he's like this the Jedi was his life and it was destroyed, he's depressed, has ptsd, and is partially responsible for the way the galaxy is.
@korrok it's not disney star wars without destroying a white male hero. "ITS IN CHARACTER FOR LUKE AND OBI-WAN TO GIVE UP ON THE FORCE!" you know the savior of the galaxy and reedemer of Vader and the Master Jedi who is the galaxy's "only hope"!
I think vader intended to let kanobi go, I feel vader wants Kenobi to suffer but also wants him to regain his jedi skills so that he can prove to himself that he is a much better fighter than kenobi.
Nah, didn't you see the episode? The most powerful Jedi and force user of all time couldn't jump over a 10-foot pit of fire. Obviously that's why Kenobi got away... This show is so bad...
When Vader first opens his saber it’s from the same angle as he did in the Jedi temple during order 66. Awesome detail. Also he didn’t start killing the civilians because he had a psychotic episode, but because he sensed Obi-wan and wanted to bait him out. Notice he gives a long stare before he drags out the civil guy. And I loved how Vader let Obi-wan leave. When Obi-wan was being saved, Vader had a choice of finishing him on spot or let him go. He did the latter because he was not finished with him yet.
Interesting take. I saw it more of a him being SOOO focused and hateful towards Obi the bullet didn't even phase him... I think he let him go to lead to chasing a rebellion or the rest of the Jedi. even though it was probably really bad writing lmfaooo
I love the review. I do think that Vader let him go on purpose, wanting to torture him more. But still having that classic Anakin over-confidence, thinking "I can find him now whenever, wherever". But we all know, that will backfire somehow. So fricken cool.
He couldn’t find him for 10 years. He’s right there in front of him and he just lets him escape? I agree that’s what he did but that’s not what Darth Vader would do. This is prime Vader who has learned from Anakin’s past mistakes. I hope they explain why
Nope, he tells the Stormtroopers to bring Obi-Wan to him before the droid gets there, and then they fire on the droid, but I guess a little bit of fire compounds their terrible aim lol. Even if it is true that he let him go to "torture him more", there's a high chance he won't be able to find him again for a really long time, if ever. He clearly wants to kill him, so idk why he would be okay with that. Either way, the directing here was not clear and i think that's to blame. It was stupid hearing the stormtroopers yelling about how they couldn't get around the fire after several establishing shots showing that they were in an open spot with sand dunes that would slow down anyone trying to escape.
@@jdot634 he’s such a big channel that sometimes he has to appease the the majority of the Star Wars community rather than give honest takes. Why risk losing clout when he is this big. I like Theory but if you want brutally honest takes you’ll have to go to the smaller channels that have less to lose.
@@ShadowWolfIsTheGOAT Thing is though, it's not that he couldn't find Kenobi for ten years. It's more that Palpatine didn't allow him to as well. He keeps putting Vader away from Kenobi to pursue other Jedi instead. Besides, if Obi-Wan is willing to risk to come to light now, it must be something big that he wouldn't go into hiding again for a while. Besides, Vader is always arrogant. That never really changed. By this time, he also has little to no Jedi left to hunt. That's one of the few luxuries he could enjoy. Why would he waste that opportunity by killing the one man who caused him all this suffering?
@@excaliburknight1016 he doesn’t have to kill him, he just have to make sure he doesn’t escape. The inquisitors spent 10 years looking for him when Vader couldn’t that was even said in the show. He can disappear just as quickly as he can reappear. What you are saying makes sense but it’s irrelevant to him letting Obi Wan escape.
Vader was terrifying in this episode. I think they pulled off Obi being Traumatized well. As another person said in the comments, "Prime Obi would've Clapped Vader," true however , him seeing what Anakin became was shocking . Remember, this takes place ten years later so yah. Is the show the best thing since buttered toast ? I don't know if I'd go that far but , the storyline is entertaining enough to keep my attention thus far. Will keep watching , interested to see what will happen with the Obi story here.
Which makes it even more sad that by the time of the OT, Obi-Wan has completely given up on Anakin. I hope they were at least able to reconcile after Anakin’s death.
Its great to hear James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader again. I was wondering if they'd get him to do it for the Series. I noticed immediately that his voice sounded better than it has in recent years (Rogue One for example). Obviously with Jone's age being a factor which is understandable. It sounds like they did a subtle touch up in post, resulting in that consistent booming voice. It also sounds slightly more mechanical which I think was a great touch.
He was awful in the remake of the lion king, he's getting old you can hear it. With him being vader, his voice goes through a computer so it can hide his age a bit better.
rogue one was also james earl jones. vader has never not been him (he voiced him in rebels and fallen order as well) edit: not fallen order, sorry. video game vader is scott lawrence
He sounded just like he did in Empire and ROTJ. They definitely did some work on the back end to tweak the voice and make it sound younger and crisper. I was worried after Rogue One, but it was perfect in Kenobi.
11:34 Just a quick correction. She isn’t posing as an Imperial Captain, she is actually a captain in the Imperial Army but has grown disillusioned with the Empire, and is now using her Officer privileges to help those the empire hunts.
I think it is Hayden in the suit for the most part because in interviews when talking about the fight Ewan expressed his genuine fear seeing Hayden approach him in the suit
Am I the only one who absolutely loved the scenes with Kenobi and Leia? They are such an adorable duo and the acting (especially of the young girl) in those scenes is magnificent!
Yes, couldn't agree more. Despite being a child she does an excellent job of portraying Leia. You see she had to carry the conversation hitching the ride. Awesome.
One of the things that disappointed me in Rebels was how pretty much _every_ Imperial soldier were sadistic buffoons without a hint of any redeeming qualities so it was such a breath of fresh air to not only see an Officer who has turned against the Empire in secret but is part of an underground railroad movement for Jedi
Additionally I liked that some of the Stormtrooper’s were friendly with the truck driver guy- humanized them- though they were still passionate about their duty.
One thing I’ve noticed a lot of people miss, when Obi Wan first switches his saber on in that fight with Vader, it has that distinct dark-side hiss. Likely because he was succumbing to his fear
When I watched it, I honestly felt that the reason why Vader didn’t walk through the fire after Obi-Wan is because he’s stunned or shocked of this broken version of his old master. We’re not used to Vader “taking a moment.” This is not the Obi-Wan he thought he was going to find. Some might find it out of character. Vader doesn’t usually have a connection with his victims like he does Obi-Wan. We’re used to seeing him obliterate his enemies without a second thought. And yes, he’s toying with Obi-Wan and prolonging his suffering, but it’s also giving a clear view of the shell of a man his former master/brother is now.
@Xavier Lynch I mean, that could be true also. I feel like Vader has more hate than love for Obi-Wan at this point. But I think we tend to forget that Vader isn’t all machine. There is still a speck of humanity there. The Sith are driven by their passion and feelings as well as anger. This is a person he once loved as a brother. I personally believe that there could be some sympathy there, just not enough to erase the hatred. Too bad we can’t see the facial expressions under the mask.
@Xavier Lynch that could absolutely be the case as well. All we really know so far is that Vader could likely have made short work of a sad, afraid, broken Obi-wan, but held back. Can't wait to see if further episodes make his motivations clearer, or if we get to continue speculating and imagining together!
Man, the scene of Obi Wan and Leia having a heart to heart, the atmosphere of uncertainty in scenes with the Stormtroopers, the confrontation and malice in Vader’s voice, just, wow.
I know, i was so worried that Leia and Ben would be found out and die. But then I remembered that they are both in Episode IV and all the tension evaporated.
Hey man! Love the vid, I just wanted to thank you for making this for all the people who can’t watch the show! Love your content, fanfic’s all that Jazz. But the best is the Vader series! That thing was epic! Thank you! May the Force be with you!
When Obi-Wan accidentally called her Leia my heart dropped. Definitely a tense scene. This episode really begins to show the potential greatness of this new director. It was great hearing JEJ again also. 3x better than the first two episodes, and I hope it continues that trend.
People hated the prequels when they came out. Now people love them. Their will always be people who hate something, and people who love it. 10 years down the line and this is going to be regarded as one of the best SW series. They will eat their own words
Obiwan was an experienced deep-cover intelligence operative during the clone wars. Such a mistake is not only unlikely, it just isn't possible. Are you both shills from Disney, or just idiots?
For me, James Earl Jones sold it. Hearing HIS voice was vital and it was amazing. You KNOW it’s him. This helped with the continuity. The costume of course they nailed, but hearing JEJ helped with the immersion. Thank God we haven’t lost him yet.
One more side note; the lady that helps them actually is an officer, she explains as such and that one she realised what the empire really was, she defected. So she isn't playing dress up as an officer, she actually is one.
Haven’t watched the breakdown yet. However seeing Vader torture Obi-Wan was absolutely amazing. Such a great call back to Episode III. I’ve seen people complain about no imperial March theme, however, seeing Vader arrive with nearly no noise and ruthlessly snapping a teenagers neck is and forever will be bone-chilling. I’m guilty of criticising Disney and Star Wars but this episode shows the good they can do for characters such as Vader. LOVED IT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Obi-Wan's connection with Anakin is stronger than his connection with Qui-Gon ever was. That's why he connected with Vader immediately but can't find Qui-Gon.
Qui-gon is in a higher plan of existence now. Vader is still alive in the physical world. It makes sense that communicating with Qui-gon would much harder.
I think it's more that it's easier to connect with living beings you've made previous connections with, rather than force ghosts you don't exactly know how to find, using techniques you haven't mastered.
I personally enjoyed Vader watching him being dragged off. I just imagine him reaaaaally savoring how much more powerful he's become and how pathetic obiwan looks being dragged through the sand, burnt and broken. Maybe even goingnso far as being disgusted with him. Imagine looking back at how much love and respect he had for Obiwan and this is what he chose over staying alongside Anakin. Im excited for where it goes from here because the horror elements of Vader were phenomenally well done.
Yeah I'm not sure what the intention was but just having him stare and do nothing did make it enigmatically awesome. A lesser director would've had him rage or do something to directly inform the audience. I personally really get the sense from that moment that he was thinking 'so be it' he escapes for now but it's just a matter of time, he got what he wanted by demonstrating Kenobi's ineffectiveness against him. That kind of links up with his mindset in A New Hope where he is utterly calm about the prospect of battling Obi Wan
Also, when they fought in 3 Vaders fatal flaw was impatience and arrogance, I think here it is showing he has grown in patience and isn’t rushing to prove how powerful he truly is
Yes! It kinda of overshadows everyone’s else’s performance. He makes them look like the worst of the most awkward child actors. Those conversations with Leia in this episode, his vocal tone and facial expressions are just so hopeless and mournful.
@@sassy7766 I just finished episode 3 and had this realization, myself. Ewan is simply leaps and bounds beyond pretty much every other person. I have to make it tied with Hayden and James Earl Jones :) He brings a heaviness to every single scene, without it being overbearing or overdone. He genuinely feels like a broken man carrying the world on his shoulders, and he’s absolutely killing it with the entire Anakin/Vader storyline. Ewan and Hayden/Vader are carrying this entire show on their backs, and it’s so fucking cool. I can’t believe this show is real, I can’t believe it’s not a fever dream...
Personally I really liked this episode. I just don't think we should be as picky on the small things tbh. I still get why people aren't too happy with Vader not going thru the fire but I am certain we will find out in the next episode
I’ve been pretty pessimistic about this series so far. I had a “wait and see” attitude with Boba Fett’s story, and was ultimately disappointed with the finale that ended up being my least favorite episode of the series. My (admittedly negative) prediction is that we don’t get a good explanation for why Vader let’s Obi-Wan go, and is basically just done to move the plot along.

This episode was amazing. Peak Vader. I don’t mind how he let Ben escape at the end. He basically was toying with him and I believe Vader expected Kenobi to be much stronger.
I still think there’s turmoil inside him that always holds him back against Obi wan just because of the past history. Anyone else and it would have ended differently

I think he just thought: “No, not like this, this is pathetic, i want to break Kenobi, but i can’t do that if he’s already a broken man, i will wait until he’s at his highest to bring him to his lowest”
I think that Vader knows that Riva "killed" the grand Inquisitor. There is no way that the Version of Obi-wan, Vader encountered, was able to kill the grand Inquisitor. And Vader should be able to put that together.
I think he already knew before the fight, in the scene where he talks with Reva. He interrupts her just as she was trying to tell a lie about how Kenobi killed the Inquisitor, saying, in a way, something like “oh shut up, i don’t care who or what killed the G. inquisitor, Kenobi is all that matters”
I'm sure he knows the GI is still alive and is holding the GI position over Revas head so she will lead him to Obi Wan. He knows she killed the GI but still has a use for her and once she becomes useless to him he will kill her.
@@MrJlee93 I'm hoping for him to turn up in the last episode and have a good duel with Reva ,it would cement his power (especially if he defeats her) and remove Reva from the storyline to line up with cannon
My take on things: Starting with the elephant in the room-Vader pausing with the fire. A lot of people I think are just writing it off as him being afraid of fire but we see in the comics that he's only been afraid of fire as far as I know one time-when Tarkin tried to use it to kill him during their little "training" match, if you want to call it that, and that I think was partially from surprise. I know he could have dragged Kenobi back through it or put it out, but something stopped him. Did he want a chase (which is a mistake, but Vader isn't immune to mistakes)? Did he sense something that gave him pause? Did he get some kind of communication we didn't hear in his helmet (not likely but worth bringing up)? We don't know. But I feel like there was a reason. Also, I was watching this on discord with my friend and I had literally said "Ben's facing the demon he made" less than a minute before Vader proclaimed "I am what you made me," which I found funny. Tala, the woman helping Ben and Leia, I find extremely interesting. An Imperial officer who realized after joining this wasn't what she signed up for? We hear that story a lot, but often it ends tragically. I'm very curious about her and I hope we see more of her. Also, she's played by the same actress who played Prince Oberyn's wife/paramore in Game of Thrones, so it would be an interesting nod if she wound up meeting Din Djarin at some point and I think it'd be funny if she remarks about his helmet, given what happened to Oberyn lol. Obi-wan being so mistrustful of things was heartbreaking but completely understandable. He's lost faith in everyone, and Leia is almost a reminder of a better time when you didn't need to be so suspicious of those closest to you. And all of the questions Leia asked him this episode I feel all shape her into who we know she becomes, and it's so important for her growth to have heard those things. And the fact that, to my knowledge, she STILL doesn't know Obi-wan's full name, easily means that the potential continuity error about her not addressing Obi-wan in her message to him in ANH is closed either by explaining she did recognize his name when Luke says "I'm here with Ben Kenobi," meaning she knew Obi-wan only as "General Kenobi" and didn't know the Ben who saved her as a kid was Kenobi, OR she knew exactly who he was and was just diplomatic in her message. Either way, it keeps the continuity nicely put together (so far). I cannot wait for the next episode. I feel like this was just the beginning of a much more intense encounter between Vader and Kenobi that really hammers into Ben's mind what he comes to tell Luke about in ANH. It'll be very interesting to see how it plays out.
I think Vader realized how helpless and weak the man he was fighting really was. I don't know if Ben used the force at all. This probably wasn't the fight he was expecting and he felt conflicted. The jedi to him are these hypocritical manipulators. But Ben is only defensive.
I feel like Vader’s pause has more to do with his declaration that Kenobi’s pain has begun. Just capturing him and torturing him wouldnt do much, he still has the minute hope in Luke and Leia, but letting him escape after realizing what pain he put Anakin through, most likely only to be trapped later and made to watch his newfound allies slaughtered (or thats Vader’s plan at least)
I personally wouldn’t care if there was a little continuity issue with Leia not knowing Kenobi in a New Hop since it’s not major and if it could make the Kenobi show better I don’t care if there is a slight issue with A New Hope and Kenobi. It wouldn’t be as big of a deal as people would make it.
I love how great an actor Ewan is and always has been. He sells Kenobi so well - the looks, the mannerisms etc. For instance in the scene before vader gets there, in the tunnel area when she says Obi Wan, and he's like its just Ben now, the look on his face - the anguish - its incredible. And I loved the music cutting off when Vader senses him - so perfect = it was like a horror movie
Vader not going through the fire and him standing there reminded me a lot of Vader in Episode 6, a moment of the inner conflict within him possibly. I know he is a pretty torn rage filled Vader at this point but we do know he has always struggled with the conflict within. Even when fighting Ahsoka there was a stand still moment.
I think people are missing what is happening when they say he is letting him go or he was afraid of the fire. Anakin was alone to suffer and burn in torture. Meanwhile Obi Wan has others to help him still. Even Padme, Anakin's lover and reason for his turn to the dark side, had supposedly turned against him (or so he thought); also because of Obi Wan. Maybe he is in shock, jealous, or depressed in that he was abandoned to only some Sith lord that sought to enslave him while Obi Wan is saved by strangers at their own risk. Edit: Yes could be lazy writing if this is all we are going to have but the show isn't even completely out yet. Could be an explanation for this in the future 3 episodes.
or maybe it's bad writing. You shouldn't have to create some back story or inner monologue to justify nonsensical storytelling. Hey, maybe Vader let him go because he had a hot date. That's just as plausible as your concoction.
@@byronhotchkiss5488 but ... it's not as plausible? Writers usually think "What would the characters do in that situation?" and not just randomly do something. So atleast they probably thought of something why he let him go. We can only speculate the reason and thats what QwazCaz did. Maybe we'll find out - maybe not. Just let people have their fun and theories please
@@chrislehmann1771 yeah seems like there's a lot of theories on how emotions were running in the heat of everything. But the show was a little dull. Too many plot holes. The writers aren't doing a good job so far. Just seeks like Obi-Wan needs help. He can't do this by himself. He needs a 10 year-old little girls help and some random chick. Dude after 10 years of not honing a skill, I'd still know quite a few things. I wouldn't be a beginner after being a master. Makes no sense. I'm sorry I'm a little frustrated at what they've done with Obi-Wan. Freaking Disney man.
After rewatching, I think what’s being missed in this whole fire scene is that Vader had just asked the troopers to bring obi wan to him. Even until the last moment of that scene the troopers were firing at the droid and could have captured him. It’s not exactly like he gave up. But considering people were crawling out to help him, perhaps Vader was unsure if others would follow and didn’t want to fall into any traps especially as the last time obi was on the other side of fire it didn’t go well. This time he “didn’t jump” literally or metaphorically
I really didn’t like the whole chase scene and I’m very forgiving it could of been done a lot better obi wan should of just confronted vader in the streets and just lost because of his fear and was saved in a more convincing way and leia should of got away so she can be taken out of the show because I think we’ve seen enough of her but the whole chase just was so immersion breaking
I like the idea that he is incredibly disappointed by Obi-wan. That he yearned for a showdown with his former master where he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt he was superior. Then he finds this broken down shell of what Obi-wan once was, and his hopes are squashed. Maybe he's hoping Obi-wan has time to regroup and rally his strength once more. Vader might be looking for a more satisfying fight with Kenobi.
Great breakdown. I didn’t even think about that line from a new hope. We better see Ole Ben kick butt on the next Vader encounter. He should just throw sand at him.
@@cjtrules1 it's not just another line, that's actually a pretty important one, especially when it comes to this show. I thought exactly the same thing Star Wars Theory said about it.
@@cjtrules1 there will definitely be another fight, that's just basic story structure. The hero encounters the villain in the middle of the story and loses, then in the final act of the story they fight again but the hero wins. Even if the line from ANH wasn't there they would fight again
Having Wrecker as that droid will open up so much! It’ll foreshadow the Bad Batch for us: Maybe the the entire crew died at a final fight (maybe at the Kamino uprise) and Wrecker (and/or Echo) could be the only ones left and they spent the last five years in Secret, helping out anyone that he comes across. But who knows, just a cool theory that I have.
Personally, witnessing Obi Wan get fucking ragdolled really hurt to watch. Mcgregor's portrayal of Obi Wan is such a prominent memory of my childhood and watching his helplessness was so painful
I agree! Having memories of him in his prime in shape to this pathetic display was cringe worthy. I mean he beat the chosen one, Grevious, Darth Maul, Maul and Savage, etc. I was so shocked to see Vader rag doll him into the fire. 😱 I don't know if he'll get a chance to redeem himself before A New Hope, but I hope we at least get to see him reconnect in the Force and contact his old master.
The last time there was fire separating Vader and Kenobi, Vader overestimated his own power. I saw this as patience on his part, learning from his mistake. Also an interesting reversal this time Kenobi is burning and Vader is the one who has the “high ground”
I don't even get why people are still questioning this. He was conflicted super early on in the Lords of the Sith book, he's conflicted when Ahsoka meets him and Luke later tells him "father I feel your conflict"... so when was Vader ever NOT in conflict? That's his whole character. THeory is sometimes seriously dropping the ball here. When he said on stream "maul doesn't hate Kenobi as much as Vader" I almost spit my drink out. Like what?? Maul doesn't hate Kenobi as much? Seriously?
5:57 is such a powerful scene, at first I though it was an ambush the thief had set up for them but when I could just barely see Anakin's glare I got goosebumps. You don't know in this moment if it was a hallucination or Anakin stalking Obi-Wan through the dark side. The fact that this is the first time we have seen Anakin since ROTS makes it truly a gem.
Did no-one really notice that Vader did, in fact, look at the robot carrying Obi-Wan away? When he saw this robot with Obi Wan in it's hands, he saw himself. He saw what he had become, a robot carrying his old self away from the burning fire. It's almost poetic.
In that scene where Lenovo is being carried away and you can see the flames reflecting in vaders eyes, I got the vibes that he was thinking “what have I become”
Wow you know I may be wrong but maybe Vader actually in some way hesitated and that was at least a part of why he let obi wan go, he got distracted or something. I mean possibly
Vader likes to play with his food. He did this with Luke in Empire Strikes Back. He did this with Kanan and Ezra in Rebels when they fought. He even kinda toyed with Obi-Wan in A New Hope. The ONLY times I can think he doesn't play around is with Ahsoka Tano in Twilight of the Apprentice and Luke in Return of the Jedi. Vader is someone who likes a challenge. He'll only bring his A game to those he thinks deserve it. This episode truly cemented why Vader is a living legend to the imperials, a ghost story to the regular folk, and a nightmare to the rebels.
7.8/10… My problems with this episode 1. Why no Imperial March theme in the entire episode?? That woulda helped make Vader feel so much more authentic. 2. IMO Vader would’ve either captured or killed obi wan after seeing him for the first time in 10 years. It’s just not a Vader thing to do, to let a robot and a random girl to take obi wan to safety. 5. Book of boba fett, parts of this show and others…The scene where obi wan is shooting 3 bounty hunters and then just ends up on the floor with leia?? Vader and stormtroopers can’t walk around a 20 feet fire?? LAZY WRITING
What Vader actually said was, “when I left you I was but the learner now I and the master” not “last time we met” so I think he was still talking abt leaving the light side in ep 3 - - Edit: I think I’m gonna bring this up in super-chat next whatchparty
Regarding your comment at the 4:28 mark about how the force 'works.' I love lines like that. While I agree with you that it's a nod to Han, I also see it as a correction to the Rise of Skywalker where the lightsabers or the necklace were being 'Force transferred' from place to place like a dime-store magician's trick. If we are to interpret the Force as a religion/spirituality, which it was to the OG Star Wars, it can't be used as a party trick. Otherwise, it just gets stupid and the writers can use it for anything that they want. It would make characters too powerful and them less human. Thanks. Good video.
Yeah. But I personally think we'll get more anakin scenes. I mean as much as I love that we got Hayden back, I doubt they'd cast him just to be in the suit the entire time or for that one tiny scene in the desert here, which could easily have been done with CGI. if you bring an actor back like that and make him train and everything, I would be super surprised if you do that just to never show him outside of a suit that everybody could wear.
Could have easily taken out the rescue but I think vader wants to play with obi wan's emotions even more. Vader could easily see how fucked up and tramatized obi is right now. Like a cat playing with their meal.
@@MegaGuitarist15 I think it makes no sense. Considering what obi wan did to vader, he wouldn't risk failing to capture / kill him for anything in the world. Feels like bad writing, together with the other illogical things that happened, such as Reeva teleporting to the end of the tunnel

This was my favorite episode yet. Originally I was hoping to see Kenobi go into his proper fighting stance and stand his ground when he ignited his saber for the first time against Vader, but appreciated the approach we saw even more. I really liked how they played into his mental state; so many bad memories coming back as he faces his once brother he thought he had killed, his lack of experience in the past ten years, and just the pure terror he felt. The psychological aspect behind this scene alone was incredible
Agreed. With so much time spent in seclusion it would not have been authentic if Kenobi just picked up where he left off. You're spot on with the psychological aspects of Kenobi coming to grips with an alternate reality from the one he embraced for 10 years. Not only seeing Vader for the first time, but how far down into the Dark Side he's fallen. That's a lot to comprehend in a short amount of time. This was well written & acted.
This episode is one of my favourite pieces of Star Wars content. Obi-Wan's realisation and unpreparedness for what he was about to face was so awesome with how intense it was.
Vader doesn’t say “when we last met” in Ep 4, He says “When I left you”, which could just refer to when he took Palpatine as his master, not when Obiwan defeated him
I agree with this 100% that's the beauty of that vague Star Wars dialogue 🤣 people whine forgetting that retconning around vague dialogue implications has been a Star Wars tradition since _Empire._
I mean lets be real, us getting more Obi-Vader action might not make sense due to that dialogue but we all know its just because Lucas had zero clue how Star Wars would take off. Forget the reasoning being perfect i just love seeing more of them together.
Now that I think of it and reading a few other comments, I think that in 77 Lucas meant something else, something like what happened in Ep III, either after the last fight or when they say good bye when Kenobi leaves for Utapau. Although with time someone realized it was a very open quote. Still, I think in real life you would mention the last time you really saw someone, not something that happened 30 years back, at least in that situation.
He also said "I was but a learner", but he was a fully trained Jedi knight in the beginning of return of the sith so taking things too literally here is even worse.
People saying Vader just let Kenobi go, I see it more along the lines that he did so just to make him suffer. Yes, Vader could've gotten his revenge right then and there, but he feels Kenobi isn't a challenge right now. There'd be no satisfaction in facing a weak opponent, especially one you have a seething hatred for and killing them. Vader even said Kenobi's suffering was only beginning and has bigger plans for him no doubt. Part of it being he wanted Kenobi to see and remember what happened to Anakin and how he burned and became the monster he is. It's something that'll haunt Kenobi for a long time. Kenobi will no doubt take this chance to reconnect to the Force and get ready for when he has to face Vader again. One other thing to consider is this; Vader toys with his opponents because he feels bored by most of them. I believe it's been established in canon that Vader despises facing so many rebels because they don't offer a challenge and aren't strong in the Force. He wants to toy with his opponent and relish in seeing them try, and fail, in taking him down. Why do you think he toyed with Ezra and Kanan in Rebels? Because all the Jedi were pretty much gone now, and Vader sees them as a small challenge instead of the other opponents he's faced. Also, can we just say Vader straight up murdering that kid was a real shocker? I'm honestly surprised Disney allowed that to go through. EDIT: How did this comment suddenly spawn people complaining about music?
@@mademen5234 Bruh is that all you grasped from the above comment? I get it, Imperial March not being in the show was not satisfying, but does not change the fact that this episode was surprisingly great coming from Disney. But yes i would have loved some old prequel music. I personally was anticipating atleast Battle of the Heroes.
This episode, man. This confirmed my description of the Empire on your video about the unfortunate Moses situation. That it’s just a ladder for social climbers who are always gunning for the top spot. The Inquisitors fighting for the top spot feels like the infighting and bickering that I know eventually brought down the Empire, both in Canon and Legends. Also pretty cool to see the stuff with Obi-wan and Leia. It also gives us one of the best and most relatable descriptions of the Force, ever. We never will know what the Force will actually feel like, but the description of the Force by Obi-wan is so understandable. And then there’s everything in this episode with Vader. Never have I ever felt so scared of Vader, even in Rogue One, Jedi: Fallen Order, and even Empire Strikes Back. It’s probably going to be the best depiction, and the one to beat, of Vader for a long time.
Just a note: she wasn’t posing as an imperial officer, but rather joined the empire to then be disgusted by what she saw. Think that is important for her character
Exactly. Theory got it wrong af.

Yes, but yet star wars theory is nitpicking the voice. James Earl Jones is doing an amazing job.

That probably right on
Ye I completely agree.
Vader should get a shock in the next meeting especially to keep canon alive and to meet the line "when I left you I was but the leaner".
Huh, hadn't thought of it like that
I was thinking the same thing. It's part of his character to not be overly emotional so it doesn't seem exactly like Maul because he was all about revenge. Vader has no reason to rush it.
They made vader terrifying in this episode, just the whole stalking ben part where vader kept popping out of nowhere like jason from fri the 13th was just epic, i loved it
That stuff was cool, but the fight was a bit weaker than I'd hoped for.
No else found it weird how Ben just..... casually walked away from Vader. Twice.
@@truthdetector4036 The fact that the fight was weaker is because obi wan has been out of training for a quite a while now, he left his jedi powers years back when he went into hiding. Jedi were as strong as they were because of the constant training and discipline that they kept every second of every day. Obi wan is weak at the moment, but i suspect that will change as the days go on
the bit where he snaps the neck of the kid is brutal, just shows how cold and murderous Vader has become

The likely point of the show is to potray how the "Mcgregor" Obi-wan transitions to the wise old man that "Guiness" Obi-Wan is.

These lines hit so hard if you’ve watched the whole journey through clone wars too

Bonus points if they bring back Khaleen and Korto and retcon Dark Disciple out of the timeline.
You also see him sitting at a table on Tatooine in Episode 1 when young Anakin is walking by.
@@JediLordNathan I really like Dark disciple- one of the best canon novels imo. 1) I like that they actually show how much Obi- Wan loved Padme. They knew each other a long time, were close friends, something I think under explored in the prequels. I’m glad to see her mentioned so much
2) I hope they keep building Reva up as this OP character in the show if and only if we get to see Vader absolutely destroy her in the end 😂
OP or just cunning and smart? The 5th brother showed us she isn't stronger than even him.
“Op” lol
But they have already shown that his love for Satine is always on his mind. In the previous episode, I think Leih was reminding him of Satine and not Padme. I don't think he loved Padme at all, atleast not romantically.
Fifth brother is stronger, she uses her brain to compensate
I think Vader knows the grand inquisitor is alive, and he is sort of using it to tempt reva and the other inquisitors to do anything to get Kenobi
Vader not using the force to grab Obi-Wan is like Vader not using the force to grab Luke in Empire
He did though.
It’s a Star Wars thing then. But all I’ve seen is people complain about that as if it’s the first time.
Vader is soft I’m over it they killed the baddest dude from my childhood
@@Cheeks598 what is you saying
Be nice if disney tell a story instead of unnecessary ambiguity. Vader told the STs to bring him in so letting him go is a poor theory.

And also his defensive moves were quite good, it just looked like he was suprised by Vader's strength.
@@assassin3g much like on mustafar

*The point is that he chooses not to.*
I'm actually blown away that so many people are calling it plot holes or bad writing. Then again, Star Wars fans seem to nitpick even the tiniest of details, making mountains out of mole hills. Couple that with the separate outrage farming crowd who hate absolutely anything with disney, diversity or "wahmen" and then you have two pretty vocal groups hating on it.

We all know a couple things:
Him thinking he killed obi wan and *leaving* him after a more intense dual it could set up the battle in ANH really well.

Not a fan of this approach as if you watch 1-6 you believe that the gap of 3-4 obi wan and Vader never met since 3 hence the lines Vader said on the Death Star, We meet once again, I was once a learner when I left, now I am the master. right there in front of him and he just lets him escape?

Prime obi wouldn't beat prime vader, since prime vader is a lot stronger than anakin on mustafar and mustafar was a close fight.
@@phobetohr yup vader is way stronger
What was awesome is that Obi still sees his friend Anakin, not Vader, and the way Ewan portrays Obi WAN’s horror is genius
I thought that, too. Ewan McGregor is such a good actor. I am impressed by his acting in this show.
With him being vader, his voice goes through a computer so it can hide his age a bit better.
rogue one was also james earl jones. vader has never not been him (he voiced him in rebels and fallen order as well)
edit: not fallen order, sorry. video game vader is scott lawrence
He sounded just like he did in Empire and ROTJ. They definitely did some work on the back end to tweak the voice and make it sound younger and crisper. I was worried after Rogue One, but it was perfect in Kenobi.
Nobody else can do it like he can. He is the voice of Vader. Anyone else just sounds like someone imitating
He’s 91 years old but he’s still voicing vader

I think it is Hayden in the suit for the most part because in interviews when talking about the fight Ewan expressed his genuine fear seeing Hayden approach him in the suit
I now understand why he felt genuine fear. seeing vader slowly walking down towards him made me feel like I was watching a horror movie.

I like your theory
I felt the same - there is conflict within Vader, just as there was later when he fought Luke. Loving the discussion here!
This is a really awesome view of that. Love the emotional lense.

How is this even a conversation, who else would be under the suit if Hayden is in the cast?

I personally really get the sense from that moment that he was thinking 'so be it' he escapes for now but it's just a matter of time, he got what he wanted by demonstrating Kenobi's ineffectiveness against him. That kind of links up with his mindset in A New Hope where he is utterly calm about the prospect of battling Obi Wan
Also, when they fought in 3 Vaders fatal flaw was impatience and arrogance, I think here it is showing he has grown in patience and isn’t rushing to prove how powerful he truly is

7.8/10… My problems with this episode
I know they can’t kill obi wan or maybe even capture bc that would hurt the canon timeline but they coulda definitely thought of something better.

4. They kept cutting the Vader vs Obi Wan fight scene like every 20seconds to Reva and other plots which I didn’t like. Should have had one long fight scene to build more fear and realism.

Grand inquisitor isn’t dead
@@guszimm39 of course. G. Inquisitor is in rebels years later. He's probably just hurt

@@MrJlee93 I'm hoping for him to turn up in the last episode and have a good duel with Reva ,it would cement his power (especially if he defeats her) and remove Reva from the storyline to line up with cannon
My take on things:
Starting with the elephant in the room-Vader pausing with the fire.
I thought the exact same thing regarding Tala and The Mandalorian lol
I think we all deserve a "what if" of star wars. Imagine all the closing for characters and all the possibilities dozens of them around anakin himself
Seeing Vader being this brutal is cool, and his suit up gave me chills.
him snapping the young boys neck was crazy
Yeah that was crazy.
He didn’t say a word but I feel like most people knew Vadar was around the corner just by the look on his face
Lmao!
Either that or he is just disappointed from the "fight".
Edit:
Yes could be lazy writing if this is all we are going to have but the show isn't even completely out yet. Could be an explanation for this in the future 3 episodes.

He saw what he had become, a robot carrying
his old self away from the burning fire. It's almost poetic.
Wow that’s a sick analysis!
holy shit this is a good analysis
It's like poetry, it rhymes
7.8/10… My problems with this episode
I know they can’t kill obi wan or maybe even capture bc that would hurt the canon timeline but they coulda definitely thought of something better.
3. Whole fight scene felt kinda off, don’t get me wrong the fire scene was badass but the fight scene felt fan made
4. They kept cutting the Vader vs Obi Wan fight scene like every 20seconds to Reva and other plots which I didn’t like. Should have had one long fight scene to build more fear and realism.
5. It’s like Disney is purposely trying to just barely hit the decent/okay bar on this show. Almost as if there tryna make the show as “okay” as possible. Book of boba fett, parts of this show and others…The scene where obi wan is shooting 3 bounty hunters and then just ends up on the floor with leia?? Vader and stormtroopers can’t walk around a 20 feet fire?? LAZY WRITING
If Vader fights one handed, he's not taking the fight seriously
Gay
@@KingShibe EXACTLY and here he was fighting with 1 hand with Ahsoka and Luke in ROTJ he fought with both. Business.
Everything was valid except fights with Luke. He's not "playing with his food" he's "trying not to kill"
What Vader actually said was, “when I left you I was but the learner now I and the master” not “last time we met” so I think he was still talking abt leaving the light side in ep 3

Edit: I think I’m gonna bring this up in super-chat next whatchparty
Oh, I thought it was when you left me but still getting the same point
Regarding your comment at the 4:28 mark about how the force 'works.' I love lines like that. While I agree with you that it's a nod to Han, I also see it as a correction to the Rise of Skywalker where the lightsabers or the necklace were being 'Force transferred' from place to place like a dime-store magician's trick. If we are to interpret the Force as a religion/spirituality, which it was to the OG Star Wars, it can't be used as a party trick. Otherwise, it just gets stupid and the writers can use it for anything that they want. It would make characters too powerful and them less human. Thanks. Good video.
Anyone else thought you could see Hayden’s mannerisms in the suit?
The head turn when he senses obi wan , I felt that.
I felt like I could hear Hayden’s voice mixed in with James Earl Jones.
The fire was weird, was thinking could of easily taken out Obi’s rescue
YES! I thought the voice WAS a blend of them both as well!
Could have easily taken out the rescue but I think vader wants to play with obi wan's emotions even more. Vader could easily see how fucked up and tramatized obi is right now. Like a cat playing with their meal.
Vader doesn’t want to kill obi wan yet. He likes the chase. He likes watching him suffer.
@@MegaGuitarist15 I think it makes no sense. Considering what obi wan did to vader, he wouldn't risk failing to capture / kill him for anything in the world. Feels like bad writing, together with the other illogical things that happened, such as Reeva teleporting to the end of the tunnel
@@alinstoian4393 reva definitely going to the end of tunnel that quick made no sense lol. Like that is suppose to be a hidden path but she knew exactly where it ended?
I feel like this episode was more like a horror movie. You see Vader and his back to getting put back together all horrifically burned in like congealed with metal and cybernetics. And then the way he stalks Obi-Wan like he’s Jason Voorhes or something
Great breakdown! I couldn’t agree with you more about this episode. Always love hearing another true Star Wars fan’s take on things. Congratulations on all of the success in doing what you love. Kudos bro! Cheers!
Vader doesn’t say “when we last met” in Ep 4, He says “When I left you”, which could just refer to when he took Palpatine as his master, not when Obiwan defeated him
I agree with this 100%
that's the beauty of that vague Star Wars dialogue 🤣 people whine forgetting that retconning around vague dialogue implications has been a Star Wars tradition since _Empire._
Its okay. If you have to make up theories in your head to excuse bad writing you do you
People saying Vader just let Kenobi go, I see it more along the lines that he did so just to make him suffer.
No imperial theme song??? Disney is lacking effort into these Star Wars shows
Vader letting Obi Wan go is like Vader letting Luke escape all throughout the original trilogy
Vader only roasted Obi-Wan's right arm, maybe he's waiting for an opportunity to roast the remaining limbs 😏
That's groomer Disney for you.
