    I think they were fairly equal. considering the price difference, you could do several mods to the Gen8 to make it superior.. There are situations where a shorter wheel base is good and other times a longer wheel base is better.. For $269 it is hard not to consider the Gen8, put a flat belly pan on, take out the inner fenders, tire it up, put a 1040's Willeys pickup body (JConcepts Creep) on with better approach and departure clearances (almost 90 degrees), maybe an overdrive, then see the results (and you will still have money left over, to put a case of beer in the Willeys pickup body)..

      Needed a spare tire on jeep to add weight to the rear would have evened it out better also.

    I am actually glad you did this comparison. I felt that the Gen 8 was written off for a good while. It has its pros and cons, but it's a great contender nonetheless for its price. I on the other hand have two highly modified Gen 8 Axe's. But about your comparison. I like both to be honest. The short wheel base of the SCX10III really comes in handy with making some extra rocky areas seem effortless. The long wheelbase of the Gen 8 does soak up the rocks, but at times it will hang up on an up coming large rock because it's longer wheelbase didnt quite clear the previous one yet. Then again, the longer wheelbase sometimes helps the Gen 8 grab rocks around corners to pull itself around more easily. But lets be honest, engage that SCX10III dig and getting around those corners can actually be a cake walk. I love both of them. The Axial is one that I dont have yet. I just talked my brother into one and he now has the new SCX10III. Him finding all the parts thst he actually wants to use to build it is another issue altogether. Love the video. Nice to see Redcat crawling against the others again.

    I'm a Redcat guy, but I feel it was pretty equal with a slight edge to the Axial.The Axial has more features factory, but cost more than the original Gen 8. I feel the Gen 8 Axe would be a better comparison.

      @@nathencosgrove877 From what I've heard they will send out the newer heavy duty parts as replacements when things like that happen. The RTR trucks don't ship with the upgrades. The Axe should have them out of the box, but I'm not sure if it has all available heavy duty parts.

    I picked up the 10.3 for my first rig. I got the kit and had a blast putting it together, changing out plastic for aluminum parts where they count. I've had a lot of fun with it since January when I got it but now I'm looking to build something a little more scale. The gen 8 V2 chassis is a fantastic price and for some quality parts. I'm just. It sure what kind of upgraded parts are for it. I want to do leafs in the back on am XJ hardbody so trying to find a suitable chassis for it. Might end up doing a custom, but I have been looking at the gen8 V2 and I do like it quite a bit

    I’ll say one thing. My first crawler was a Redcat Gen7. It was love at first drive. Then about 3 months later I got my gen8. Again love at first drive. I recently bought my first axial Scx10 II kit. Let me tell you how much I love axial now and Redcat. So as a person who loves both companies sooo much. After seeing this video yea Redcat bigger and more stocky bigger wheel base. But they perform equally. Axial will be able to do a side ways climb up a hill wear as the Redcat it to top heavy that’s the only thing I’ve noticed a difference in. Great video Exo loved this comparison and the new Scx10 III. The crawler Park is looking great If I’m ever down there I would love to crawl with you! Keep up the great work my dude!! ❤️❤️

    So glad you did this I was asking this question in my head so many times how are they side by side and what are there abilitys. I have a base model gen 8 and an axe edition. Love seeing the big body go over the rocks. The scx10 3 on the other hand was impressive I liked how it sorta floated over the rocks and was swift through the tight walls. And the articulation was beautiful and flowy it is tough like you said but looking at a consumer stand point mom and pops standing there with there wallet. Id give my money to redcat a truly proven and stable chassis. they got the old school body and you get everything you need up to a light kit and still have money to spare for a battery. My dad owned a 78 scout 2 aswell so redcat takes the cake for me. I am an axial fan at heart tho the wraith got me into crawlers and I have an smt10 gravedigger. So i am not being biased. I was gonna buy the scx103 but the price litteraly scared me away and I knew that the gen 8 was a proven crawler cause I had an axe edition prior. But no less the scx10 put up a great fight and show. Gen is is more affordable especially if you have kids and you know they want something of the sort.

    I feel like the Jeep got it. First, it was more nimble. It made light work of going through the course. Second, the Jeep suspension seemed to articulate smoother. Which I think helps make it more nimble through a course like that. Lastly, I appreciated how easy it was to back out of that hole (from driver error) it found its self in. I would’ve liked to see the red cat so the same thing to see how it would’ve gotten out?

    You should start adding the poll option for these videos. I have both but im still waiting for my electronics to show up for my 10iii. It was close but i give it to the axial. Nice comparison to see them both running. To be honest, I am an Axial fan. Having owned both the Gen8 and the SC10-ii, I have loved every bit of my Axial vs the RedCat. In this comparison video though, I would call it a draw. I love the dig option in the Axial to get out of those tight turns while the shorter wheelbase definitely gives it the edge over the Gen8. And only judging from my past experience, I feel like the Axial will probably hold up under abuse better, hence making it a better value for your dollar. I also always found the Gen8 body hideously large and a major issue as it tends to get hung up on everything. Swap out the body with a smaller one and you have a worthy contender.

    I say being that the gen 8 is basically the first crawler built by redcat it wins hands down considering the backing that axial has they should be able to dominate. The axial might have a 2 speed and dig but that redcat held its own! Im proud to have my gen 8 and honestly I tend to go to it more than my axial. It box stock and still all the fun I need but one day she'll have some upgrades!

    I think they are equal in certain situations. Yes the scx10iii has a dig and 2speed but for different reasons.
    The gen 8 is capable of a lot as well with its smaller tire radius and weight disbursement of the battery in the center vs a battery in the rear.
    But it all depends on driver and terrain and what you want to push their limits too.

    I have been watching for a while now and I know there have been some fixes and adjustments done in the redcat from the box stock models. The axial is straight of the the line stock and aside from driver error on the first obstacle did better in almost everything.

    I am an axial guy that owns some redcats also, BUT I gotta give the W to redcat for this one! My reasons are that axial made this new rig to compete in the new market, however the redcat held its own big time against the new contender! lol great video! Still want the new 10.3 lol

    I’m a Redcat guy myself, but the 10/III Is a very impressive Rig! I’d say the only true advantage between The Gen8, SCX 10/III, or even the TRX4-“Sport”? Is personal preference? Can’t wait to see what Axial will do to compete with higher models like the Gen8 Axe or full TRX4? Thanks for another awesome video! 👍

    As someone who has axials and a gen8 axe I really like both truck platforms and I find it hard to pick a winner in this comparison, however when you take in the fact that the gen 8 cost less rtr than the kit from axial and is just as good. My vote will have to go to the gen 8

    I don't own either one. Although it was really close I would have to give it to the Axial SCX10 III. It appeared that it handles smoother and better control. But I am going to do some checking into the gen 8 because of the price point difference.

    I noticed my Gen 8 Scout climbed a lot better when I took the spare tire off the rear. If I'm trail driving I'll put it on because I like how it looks but going to the rocks I take it off...

    I have both. If you're into bang for the buck performance, go Gen 8. IMHO the SCX10 III wasn't designed to be a top dawg rock crawler, but a super scale trail machine. For me, the scale details of the SCX10 III trumps all other factors.

    I don't choose one brand over the other I choose what I can buy and upgrade to make the best truck possible. I think the axial wins this one because it looked much smoother over obstacles. Both are great trucks and few upgrades would be needed to improve performance on them. If the redcat had different shocks I think it might of won.

    Not sure there always has to be a winner.. You can strip down or build up most of the kits on the market right now to be a killer performer or a really beautiful scale rig, maybe somewhere in-between?...A lots of us have 2 or 3 or more for that very reason...
    I don't have either of these 2 trucks but will be getting scx10iii once it arrives in Australia, It's more my jam... and already have a trx4 defender to fill the big body lwb truck spot for me.. It's exciting to think where Redcat will take their next release though.
    Cheers mate 👍

    First and foremost great video. Where is this magical crawling space!?!? My choice would be the Axial purely because I know it will have more available aftermarket wise. The only crawler I have being a Vaterra Ascender K10 so I know how frustrating it can be having a small aftermarket pool per say.

    i have an axial 10.2 blazer rtr and cherokee kit and traxxas blazer and a trx4 sport with a bronco body.i am not a fan of a brand as much as i am of the vehicle itself.i love all my crawlers .i think that the 10.3 will get better as its developed with aftermarket stuff.it is a little tippy downhill and uphill the front tends to lose traction.the body needs to lighten up and lower the cg . you can have fun with all the crawlers out there .pick the one that best suits your budget and upgrade as you get extra money. enjoy the sport anyway you can

    I think that the Scx10 III did slightly better because it made quick work of the last crawler challenge, but overall they were very equal.

    I think axial climbs better plus it has dig and a two speed just put together the 10iii builders kit and was. Amazed at its quality !!!

  • @ronhelman3985
    @ronhelman3985 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched it twice, they both have differences I think the axial had a better ground clearance then the gen8. I also think the weight of the body and the length on gen 8 made some difference for it the overhang on the gen8 hurt it a little where axial didn't have that. So I would say they were pretty equal.

  • @shug97
    @shug97 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really too close to call. The dig probably helps the scx10.3 take the win, however without it the Gen8 performed just as well. What would the cost difference be Joe?

  • @douglaselliott8298
    @douglaselliott8298 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In esoteric 'scale' details the Axial takes it(I also prefer the contemporary Jeep styling to the ultra boxy IH-Scout or early Ford Bronco look). The Redcat, however, wins in MY very important K I S S criteria with its simple, non-problematic single speed, non-DIG transmission. Performance-wise they were equals IMO, but I would enjoy driving the Axial more solely because of its looks.

    It seemed like a pretty even affair but each Truck has they're pros and cons , to me the defining attribute is the price, cheaper older Truck does everything the more expensive and newest one does, I'm sticking with Gen 8 for sure , now let's see a Gen 8 Axe vs SCX10.3 video

    I am in the market for a new chassis only kit. Been looking at the scx 10.2 raw builders kit and then gen 8 pack and i be damnes everyone saying 10.2 10.2 10.2 but man the video showed the redcat can hang and out shine in some places the 10.3 so man i thonk the redcat pack is the way to go. Its cheaper and pre-assembled lol. Seeing how i never built a kit that mivht bw my beat choice what do ypu think. Exocaged

    I think think the shorter wheel base and slightly taller tires gives the axial an advantage. But for the size of the body and overhang on the back and slightly shorter tires I think the gen 8 did great and that scout body is worth the trade off. But I have a gen 8 with a gen 7 sport body and 5.4 1.9 boggers and its a trail beast. Check out my videos of it! I also run the reefs sliders.

  • @natev580
    @natev580 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have both of these beasts and it's not even a comparison. The dig feature in the Axial alone makes it 10 times the crawler over the Redcat. Now, living in a pretty crappy environment for crawling (very little in terms of places to go and natural formations) most of what I do is climbing 20 foot tall dirt piles in new home construction sites. The Redcat is just too big and bulky for that and even going through multiple sets of aftermarket tires, it doesn't keep up in terms of grip on dirt. Personally, I am an Associated/Element guy myself but if I had to pick between these two machines... The SCX10III wins every time.

    REDCAT Gen8 has the edge just because it preform with way longer body and without a Dig and much smaller narrower shity stock tires and foams - plus it is cheaper - and i would expect a company like Axial who is leading the game with a 3rd generation and many other crawling rigs to have the upper hand easy - this is Redcats first scale crawler 1st generation and still looked better - my opinion - and i do have a GEN8 - and i did expect the Axial to win hands down
