These low gears and the cooling fan for the motor are the best accessories you've featured for the SCX10III. Jeeps are not designed for 100+MPH driving whether it be in 1/1 or 1/10 scale.
These gears are pointless, the stock gears are more than slow enough, if 7 to 9mph at full throttle is fast than I don't know what fast is lol...... if you want to go slower swap your pinion this is a waste of time & money on Axials part!!
So glad this video showed up on my feed. These gears are amazing for the rocks. Not so much for speed but crawl ability is AMAZING. Thanks Joe for another awesome video
I did this too. With my 540 AXE system is amazing low speed now. Any brushless you barley take hit on speed. Who cares this isn’t rock bouncer it’s trail / rock crawler.
That is DEFINITELY a good option!! Personally, I would use the low gear set, and lock it in Second. There's BARELY any difference. 😉 Stay SAFE Bro! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I like my SCX10 ii, it's the most capable rig I have. But I don't really understand what Axial did here with the iii and their gear ratios on first and second gear. It shouldn't be necessary to have to upgrade to these low gears. These should have been in there out of the box. And I surely hope they do something about the clicking issue, so it's not even possible to happen.
i got one many small stuff shock leaking ...etc do have lots of time since covid but HELL NO then bought a trx4 g RTR yesterday i dont like traxxas but i have to have a good truck thier king I NEED A BREAK FOR CRAP KITS i feel ripped off...
I do see the benefit of having a slower gear ratio, but I would be concerned that you might break something in the drivetrain with the extra torque if the wheel gets stuck.
Wait, was that an out-house your driver was racing towards? Hopefully he made it, lol, looked like he was in a hurry😕 Those breakfast burritos get me every time.
Nature's true crawler(Lizard) isn't afraid of man's crawler. Hahaha I'll definitely buy the gears and have them ready to put in as soon as I get my 10.3.
Just picked up one of these RTRs second hand for my littlest kid.... no manual...I will definitely download that... but curious, besides the obvious extra servo and a 4ch radio, what did you have to do to unlock the 2 speed linkage to be able to select high and low? Thanks for the videos, been a while since we did crawling, but I just got my littlest this one, and fixed my other daughter's Bomber last week, so now the 4 of us will be getting the crawlers back out for summer...
You have to take a spacer out from the gear selector linkage that locks it into 1st in the RTR. The linkage parts you need are included in the parts bag that came with the truck, just add servo and 4ch radio. Taking the transmission apart is a great time to add a little more grease 👍
@@FPVTough thanks.... if I open up the trans I will definitely be giving it some grease... not sure if I want to try the 2spd or just lock it into one gear... the truck came with a 2s pack, got it second hand....so no parts bag or manual or anything... All our other crawlers run on 3s.... on 2s this is a touch slow, thinking of putting it on 3s with the low range gears... and then possibly we might need to shift it...for now was just considering locking it in high gear with a couple zip ties and seeing if the difference was worth it.... Either way, thanks for the replies...
Nice footage and info mate, were you running a 12 tooth pinion? Or was it 11? Those tyres are looking like they are very usable now with the quality foams. All in all with some tuning and learning the idiosyncrasies of this truck it will do just great. Cheers mate, have a good weekend. 👍
Interesting vid. Genuinely curious about the pros/cons regarding changing these gears to changing the pinion from standard (15t?) to say an 11t? Would changing the pinion gear have a similar effect; that's what I'm planning on doing but is this another way to go to achieve the same objective?
No they wouldn't touch (mesh) so it wldnt work but Great thinking that's exactly what Axial needs to make, otherwise low & High speed is pointless on this rig!! 💯🤘🏼
Your throttle curve is that something you get from an upgraded remote. I'm running a fusion 1800kv motor didn't see any throttle curve adjustment in the programming card
Great vid. I would appreciate a motor recommendation so I don't waste money. Currently i have a stock motor trx4 sport with HW 1080 ESC. What motor would You recommend for a noticeable upgrade to add some wheel speed w/stock pinion and spur? Maybe a quality holmes hobby brushed? Or do I need to go with a full censored brushless setup? I am asking so I dont end up getting something only to end up with equal performance and you have alot of experience with different motor combos. Ill mostly be doing trail driving and my truck has only front brass portal covers as added weight. Thanks for all the content. I watch daily, keep it up.
Hey bud.. I can tell u from actual testing I went with brushless hobbywing axe 2300 and found out that the speed is exactly the same.... so I'd say u need more than 2300kv good luck bro
Scx10 3... I've got a fusion 1800kv with 11tooth pinion running 3cell. It's still faster than I can walk. I'm looking to go with this internal low gears and the go back to 14tooth because I'm getting nasty noise at full speed with my 11 tooth pinion gear.
Does this gear set allow you to widen the difference between first and second gear? Or does this affect the ratio for first and second gear? I want to be able to go super slow and first gear and have decent bashing speed and second gear. I understand from stock there's not much difference between first and second gear, whereas I would prefer a huge difference.
This was a bad question, it just had to find a speed test in the video as I was too impatient to watch the whole video through before asking the question. answer my question is that no, this gear set does not widen the difference between first and second gear. It only adjusts the final drive ratio for the entire drive train.
@Exocaged RC dang! I have a moderate level of understanding of how the transmission works and was hopeful there was a way. Do you happen to know the reason why? like impossible? Or just not a product yet?
I really need to stop watching your videos. All that sunshine, tee shirts, and lizards is depressing while I'm sitting here with snow turning to rain, thermal underwear ,and looking over my shoulder for polar bears. I wasn't all that impressed with the SCX 10 3 when the first videos came out but watching yours has me re-thinking. If the weather ever warms up enough so I can run my Capra I think the SCX might make a nice addition.
what waste of gears money & time, it achieved absolutely nothing, everythings identical with the exception of everything being a bit slower including High speed!! something we can achieve with a simple pinion swap... They might want to look at trx4 High/low gears & figure something out. what's the point of a 2 speed if there's no speed change lol.....not to mention you lose all wheel speed so good luck when you need to hammer it......... Great Video as always 💯🤘🏼

It would be nice if they would make it so their is more of a difference in speed between 1st and 2nd gear like the trx4
This is exactly what I will do when I build my SCX10 3. Use second gear for general trail and crawler use, and have first gear as a creeper gear :)
