    The 2.2 tires make this thing look like a beast though

    Looks like you’re running the XL version tires. I’m running the standard TSL’s which are only 5.4” tall. They fit much better. I just lengthened the rear out and went to middle shock mount position.

  • @crimsonfancy
    @crimsonfancy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I was under the impression that the gen8 chassis can be lengthened as well?

      Wheel base by moving link connection positions on the skid for all 4 links. so one could move the front out the one hole (stock is in the center of 3 holes) which would give a little more clearance up front.
      I wouldn't think twice about a gentile trim on the wheelwell flare myself.

    So addressing the bumping on one side but not the other. If you remove the body and look straight down over the front end of the truck, you will see that the tires and whole front drivetrain and suspension linkage sits just a little bit to the left side. This is due to the way the front suspension is connected to the truck. I spent a great deal of time examining this on my own gen 8. It’s not a problem tho. Everything works fine and this is natural for the design. As the suspension squishes you’ll notice the the whole front end swings up to the right. Check it out its interesting

  • @rickb-73
    @rickb-73 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's the pan hard mount flexing on the right side...that's causing the body an linkage to cause bump steer...you can make a brace to eliminate that from happening so your suspension stays straight an not pull the left shock sideways.

  • @oldsjunkie1
    @oldsjunkie1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You still have some adjustments on your shocks to firm em up and lift a little as well. They're threaded bodies and yours are all the way up. Not great if you like to run droop, but should help tire clearance. Nice work on the vid!

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks I did wonder about stiffening the shocks up but thought I'd show the 'worst case' scenario. A few of you guys would like to see it run on them, so when I do I'll take your advice and stiffen them up a bit. Cheers

    Track stand in the wheelbase in the front end of a little bit I know it has those little holes were the upper links in the lower links mount I bet you it'll stop all that tire rub just a thought

  • @towamonster
    @towamonster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You also have more mounting positions on the chassis for your wheel base length.....thus making clearance for the larger tires and the 3 other shock mounting locations forward and backwards

    Working on squeezing Duratrax Deep Woods 2.2’s under my gen 8 now. Will likely take fenders and running boards off (aka frame only) then raise the body on post mounts. Seems like it will be well worth it. In hindsight I would recommend Gen 8 Pack (chassis only) then add 2.2’s and a 20kg servo from Amz (both a tad too small for body / weight).

  • @joshpatzer2

    I installed a set of 5.4" tall 1.9 proline super swamper bogger on my Gen8 and moved the upper mounting position to the middle holes and it worked great. Those tires look like the are 5.8 tall XL super swamper tsl. Drop down to a 5.4" tall tire (1.9 or 2.2 rim, doesn't matter) and they work awesome.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh see the other comments, I keep saying I've checked them and they're not the XL ones. They measure 5.4 not 5.8. I've fiddled with the wheelbase since like you have and they fit better now. Although when the cars at extreme angles they still foul.

  • @jonludwig4819

    If you really wanted to run the larger tires, you could move the axles out as well since the gen. 8 has adjustable wheel base.

  • @g-man329

    Move the front links to the front which will move the front axle forward then you can cut the front of the finder to clearance the front

They do look damn good on it though! I can feel a light trail session coming on!

    • @bobzilla9p0
      @bobzilla9p0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try buying some 100mm or even go really wild with 110mm shocks ($20 to $30 for a set of 4 aluminum off brand on Amazon). With the longer shock you can leave the spring in a softer setting and run light weight oil to get your 2.2s and have a soft suspension. Also angling the top of the shocks in towards the middle of the chassi will give the long arm suspension more leverage against the shock letting them articulate more. So for the front shocks move the top to the hole furthest back. You can move them opposite if you get shocks that are too soft. This is all part of the "tuning" Redcat built into the shock tower hoops. It used to be you had to buy after market hoops to get this adjustablity, so thanks Redcat! For your Axial there are lots of aftermarket multi hole hoop solutions on Amazon and Ebay.

      Indeed Mike I am going to run it with the stock wheels, I did this so people could see how it might look/work. Gives people options. I may change the tire, beijng beadlock rims should be easy swap. I've tested it in the yard but it very wet and the stock ones are more slippery than I'd like. That said most of my crawlings in the dry so I'll give 'em a good test first

    I can make them fit I done it with stock set up even on the trx4 defender the day it was released.. Just need a few of my design parts ;-)...I dont own this rig yet but when I do I will show the world another one of my creations. Im burried in custom builds as of now..As this one sits your 2.2 tires no way will it work even if you get it too clear when turning, wait until you try to take it over any terrain..the suspention will compress and the tires will lock up on the body on the slightest turn..

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run these 2.2's on my TRX4 and had to 'rework' the car to fit them without fouling at the front. As for it working or not that's why I shot this video....inc me leaning it over to simulate the suspension compression and then testing the steering in either direction. I did try and make it's limitations as clear as I could.

      If you're after a 10 second video of them fitting or not fitting is what you're after then you're welcome to buy your own tires and shoot your own video and find they don't fit so well. But then you'd have had to spend your own money to find out how well or not they fit......Guess none of the info on the car up until that point was of interest like the demo of much they cleared or didn't, or what a difference raising the suspension made. The kind of stuff that's important to most people considering such a swap. Sorry all that kind of stuff wasn't of interest to you.

      @@shelbyintheolds Not a problem, on unboxing videos would it work better if people just took stuff out the box until it was all out, didn't say a word and then turned off the camera? It'd make them faster but would it give people the detail they were after? Likewise You or me standing there for 30 secs saying they do or don't fit then ending the video isn't really going to help people make an informed decision. If I'd not tested the wheels with the body on I can 100% guarantee someone would've asked how well they cleared with the body on. I'll agree to disagree on the level of detail people want. However most people would probably like more than 30 seconds of detail before deciding on spending (or not) $80-90 of new wheels and tires. This video has detail so people can make an informed choice. You may just want a 10 second yes or no video but most people laying out $90 want a bit more info. I've no problem with you wanting to watch a 30 second yes or no video but it won't be me making it.
