    I remember the Joker saying that he and Bat man are what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. According to minutephysics, in one interpretation of this, the immovable object and unstoppable force are the same thing. Basically he's saying that chaos (represented by him) and order (Bat man) are the same thing...or maybe he means they're just 2 sides of the same coin (represented by Harvey Denton)

    • @joesatmoes
      @joesatmoes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      ***** Well, as minutephysics said, an immovable object is impossible, since movement is relative, so just by someone or something moving, the "immovable object" is moving relative to that thing. However, when people say "immovable object" they probably mean an object that, if it is not moving, you cannot make it start moving by pushing on it, which would actually be an unacceleratable object. And due to Newton's 2nd Law, the unacceleratable object would have an infinite mass, and its acceleration = zero.
      And all forces are already unstoppable, unless the force has no interaction at all with an object. Even light itself is an unstoppable force. But an "unstoppable force" could just mean something that you cannot stop from barreling down on you. That is an object whose velocity cannot be changed...in other words, its acceleration = zero.
      tldr Basically, just everything said in the minutephysics video "Immovable Object vs Unstoppable Force - Which Wins?"...in fact I pretty much just wrote everything from that vid

      the movie places a pretty hard emphasis on the joker and batman being two sides of the same coin which is why this movie is so good as it is not just good versus evil but similar ideals clashing and why this joker is considered (or in my opinion, is) the best joker (but also because of Heath Ledgers performance)

      Order out of chaos

    • @s3cr3tpassword
      @s3cr3tpassword 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      batman believes the natural state of human is chaos, and he's here to bring order. Superman believes that the natural state of people is order and he's there to maintain order. Joker like the Batman he believes the natural state of human is also chaos, and he wants to maintain chaos. That's the duality of batman and the joker. They think people are horrible but one thinks he should help and the other thinks they should burn.

      Satan's greatest trick is deceiving many that he doesn't exist😈.He is the real enemy of the human race👿. he has spread his doctrine "Do what you want" so that you could end up in hell with him inorder to get back at God after being cast down from heaven. Through the music and the movies industry, he and his demons have performed spells casted by his satanic occultic sold-out artists to indoctrinate the lest of us astray from God's laws and God's ultimate love and purpose for us.. This is the end times🔥🔥as prophecied in the bible..look outthere, The end is nigh🔥. Jesus is the only way ,the truth and the life.. repent🙏🏻 of your sins(read the 10 commandments)and trust the gospel of salvation of The lord Jesus Christ and as your lord and saviour in your heart. Anyone else notice the dog motif? In the beginning Bruce has to make a suit resistant to dog bites, the joker calls himself "a dog chasing cars, when the joker leaves the hospital he's sticking his head out the window like a dog, when batman goes to take down the joker at the end he's attacked again by dogs. Not sure what it means but I found it kinda interesting

    • @stewartmair3995

      Wild shot in the dark here.
      Dogs are supposedly mans best friend, they represent loyalty order and obedience which are the traits opposite that of the Joker. Potentially these dogs stand to metaphorically represent the joker attacking the Dark Knight with traits of loyalty, respect and friendship, to further enhance his idea that eventually those "good traits" will deteriorate into anarchy and chaos.
      Just a thought.

    You can also see The Dark Knight as a deconstruction of what a traditional superhero film is, for example the standard bad guy kidnaps hero's girlfriend and forces hero to choose to save her or innocent civilians, what usually happens is the hero saves everyone. The Dark Knight however he fails to save the girl and in turn creates the cause for Harvey Dent's downfall (the consequence of his inability to save a life) which in turn destroys everything that they had worked hard to accomplish

    People complain about Dark Knight Rises for a bunch of reasons, but if it wasn't for that film, this Batman series would have ended on a pro fascist theme.

    • @TheRhinehart86
      @TheRhinehart86 9 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      EpicBeard815 It did end on a pro fascist theme. Rich billionaires and above-the-law cops saved freedom and the stock market from a bunch of pseudo-communist, mass murdering foreigners. Its main theme was that rich people are ass holes, but the poor, huddled masses are even worse.

    • @EpicBeard815
      @EpicBeard815 9 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      TheRhinehart86 First off, what you described isn't fascism. Second, that's hardly what happened. The end of the film has both the law and civilians working together against a force that manipulated both the rich and the poor. By the end of the film. Batman became a symbol to unite the disenfranchised (ie the orphans and the likes of Selina Kyle) and those righteous within the law (Gordon and his rebellion) It's about as fascist as Charles Dickens.

    • @18thskaven
      @18thskaven 9 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      He is a fascist though, by the virtue of being a vigilante he is breaking the law, the same laws that he upholds. He's a contradiction. He sees a system that cannot enforce its laws and therefore takes it upon himself to enforce them, with no outside demand for him to do so. That is a fascist sentiment, the belief that you can do something better than anyone else and fight to make that as much of a fact as possible, whether some one disagrees or not.

    • @M30W3R
      @M30W3R 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Batman breaches several levels of privacy laws, extradition laws etc. to ensure that the job is done. Joker even points it out at some point, that he has no jurisdiction and will stop at nothing to catch the asian guy. Pretty much most of what he does within the movie can be considered the act of a cowboy cop. He enforces justice, doesn't really uphold it, so in a sense he is defending it, but in the other he's showing that it can't be done without getting his hands dirty and potentially endangering third parties in the process.
      So yeah he's pretty much that.

    • @Demolitiondude
      @Demolitiondude 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Then he is no better than the rogues gallery.

    • @BaresarkSlayne
      @BaresarkSlayne 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Arron Litchfield I would argue that there is outside demand which can be seen to the people of Gotham rallying behind what he does as well that police. He does things they cannot do. His anonymity allows him to do the things that benefit society and he has a personal moral code. Notice how he goes after all criminals but does not kill them, just sees them imprisoned.
      I would say he is not fascist because he only upholds the needs of the people. As they say, the hero Gotham needs, not the hero Gotham wants. He is not autocratic because he isn't dishing out punishments that do not fit the crimes, but that fit into societies predetermined laws. The only thing he isn't is tied to is the same set of rules as the police and law have to follow, but he clearly is aligned with their moral code.
      Fascism is not the belief you can do something better than someone else, it is a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government. Batman doesn't agree with what he does but he also sees it as necessary, which is why he is so supportive of Harvey Dent, because he doesn't want to do it. He does not want power or authoritarian control over people, he wants people to be able to live without having to worry about criminals taking advantage of or hurting them.

    • @18thskaven
      @18thskaven 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Paladin Demo You're right, there's very little separating him and his rogues gallery. It's one of the reasons that the Joker still exists, because he tries to make Batman kill him to show the hypocrisy of his system. It's effectively the root of the movie Under the Red Hood. That batman's system is probably not the most effective but it's the only one that he can be part of. He is psychotic and the only thing stopping him is his self enforced code.

    Joker even in his twisted and darker plots is right, and you don't need to take society and safety to transform humans into animals, you only need to take their trust in the system, their certainly, when you take that, things become really blur and that make humans commit some really stupid mistakes believing that they are running to safety and never the less, they are running more deeper in the hole, because after all, humans are ruled by their human nature, not by their intelligence, they stop being intelligent and become cows running to the slaughter house because they are afraid of the landlord and his horse.

    One thing which I think is interesting to note (although it is touched upon in this episode) is that, with no influence from Batman, the Joker turns out to be wrong about the people of Gotham. I know they voted to blow each other up, but when they were actually presented with the option, both boats decided not to do it, showing that there is more hope and good in Gotham. I think it's interesting to note, because people often described the Dark Knight (and the Batman films in general) as very dark and pessimistic, which they kinda are, but it's nice how the climax of the film rests not on Batman as himself, but by the goodness that he is fighting FOR in Gotham.

    While I love Earthling Cinema, this one lacked a lot of the clever insight into humanity, masqueraded as misinterpretation, that the previous episodes have offered. This felt more like a straight movie analysis than a deconstruction by a future society and thus the joke really fell apart. I hope to see more of the series, without the long hiatus that we experienced this time, but I hope more time is taken to recapture the quirky humor of the early episodes.

    I can't believe I never noticed the (anti) Jesus imagery with Dent! Ironic, as that's one of my top most sick-of cliches in superhero movies. In the boat scene neither side can go through with blowing up the other boat despite it meaning their own deaths. That therefore is suggesting that man in inherently good and is the reason the joker's plan ultimately fails.

    • @NBNightingale
      @NBNightingale 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually took that as Harvey Dent's heroism was paving the way for people to be better. Which is why hiding his fall from grace was so important.

    • @jeniferjoseph9200
      @jeniferjoseph9200 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nolan Nightingale I think both of you are correct. I took it as them being inherently good when I first watched it, but I almost feel that it was a cheat in the narrative in terms of the characters. Even though they give a really good reason, I know that either boat would have blown one another up. Just my opinion.

    I still don't agree with the philosophy of this movie. Without laws, people wouldn't immediately turn into animals! Case in point, Slab City www.cracked.com/article_22072_6-things-you-learn-in-town-prepared-apocalypse.html . How do you think people formed societies in the first place?!

    • @anlaaranilde
      @anlaaranilde 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The collective need for not wanting to be stabbed in the back by your neighbor is a pretty good driving force for forming society.

    • @bobjenkins4925
      @bobjenkins4925 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not right - the entire city wasn't in chaos in the Dark Knight to the point of cops not being able to enforce the law in a general sense and everybody turning into animals. Joker just created situations where the people involved were pressured into dropping their morals and doing what they urged to do. It wouldn't just be a lawless society on paper that he would create if he weren't stopped. He'd have created an environment where survival is very difficult without immoral action.

    • @barbaros99
      @barbaros99 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The movie's philosophy is not that "without laws people would immediately turn into animals". That the Joker's philosophy, which is disproved when the people on the boat refuse to carry out his wishes (either through nobility, like the prisoner, or cowardice, like the yuppie) knowing full well they will die. That's when the movie shows you that Batman has won, and will always win.

    • @rdecredico
      @rdecredico 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SAT_Holmes The film's 'philosophy' is for shit, the idea that people need a hero.
      Be wary of a hero, they need a steady supply of victims.

    • @epicfail1526
      @epicfail1526 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      SAT_Holmes But the Joker's Philosophy IS proved! He was trying to prove that underneath order, is existential chaos, and that morality is a sham. he proves that several times over. Cops turn corrupt, citizens try to commit murder, Gamble's men kill eachother for a spot in the joker's crew, the joker's henchmen kill eachother for a bigger share, batman lets five people die, and the people on the boat vote to blow up the prisoners. now you might ask "so why didn't they blow up the boat?" it's because they still had somebody to look up to. they still had Harvey Dent. The people of Gotham haven't learned about who he has become. that's why when the Batman says "This city ha just shown you that it's full of people ready to believe in good" the joker replies with "until their spirit breaks completely. until they get a real good look at the REAL Harvey Dent." and who is the real harvey dent? an anarchistic madman who leaves his victim's lives up to chance. because chance is fair. because chaos. is fair. The joker successfully corrupted him, and turned him into a chaotic psychopath, FURTHER PROVING that morality is a sham, and that "when the chips are down, these civilized people will eat eachother." Had the people of Gotham seen what Dent had truly become, they would have lost their idol. the person they look up to, and they'd have nobody to follow. they would have gone crazy and blown eachother up. SO! batman and gordon lie about it. Batman takes the blame, in order to save gotham's soul. because "sometimes truth isn't good enough" so long story short, the joker won. so much so, that batman and gordon had to lie about it, and keep the masses ignorant in order to save them from themselves. matter of fact, the joker ends up REALLY winning when Bane reveals the truth about Harvey Dent during the storming of blackgate. He reveals the Dent is a false idol who murdered cops, and tried to kill gordon's son. and what happened when gotham lost their idol? when the truth was revealed? gotham went CRAZY. the rich were ripped from their decadent homes and cast out into the harsh world we know and endure. spoils were enjoyed. blood was shed. chaos, anarchy, and entropy reigned supreme, just like the joker said it would. :) I know it's kinda hard to accept because it's a dark, and fucked up way to look at it but that's the way it really is. the joker won. he was right.
