I was always thought it was really smart that in BB, Bruce is rescued from a hole by his father but in TDKR he is the one who has to pull himself out - finally becoming the man he was always destined to be, eclipsing his father's courage in order to rescue Gotham from it's own metaphorical hole.

He essentially did what his parents did. In Batman Begins, Alfred tells him that his parents almost went bankrupt saving Gotham, in the third movie he does the same.
He loves Gotham the same way he would any group of millions of people, Gotham is just his home so he feels obligated to it in some way. His whole thing is faith in people though, he loves what the people are and can be. It's like Gotham is his child.
14:13 No, the fact that Batman miraculously survived an atomic bomb doesn't mean his sacrifice is based on a lie. In order, for Batman/Bruce to be a Christ figure, dying isn't enough.. he had to be resurrected. The fact that we see Bruce in Italy is meant to be a metaphor for his resurrection, much like how Christ was resurrected from the dead. If Batman died with the atomic bomb that means violence had won and that he didn't really conquer death. But the fact we see Bruce again at the end of the films is evident that he did conquer death, which was the whole point of his character arc in TDKR.
I felt like that was the point of Batman coming out of retirement for the first time in the movie to save the entire city. I felt the last sacrifice of taking the bomb out into the open harbor was a more violent use of Christ rising up into the sky to never be seen again until you have chosen to be saved. Much as Batman will never be seen again, however Bruce Wayne is allowed to exist because the fact of his no ties to Batman in the public eye leaving him free to support the idea of the Dark Knight as a disciple if you will.
There's some animated, Kevin Conroy-voiced Bruce Wayne storyline where Bruce Wayne is being driven crazy. So far in this episode, no one has been able to resist this hypnosis/suggestion/brainwashing/whatever, and their body is hijacked. Sure enough, Bruce Wayne kicks ass in both his brain and the waking world. After the climax of the story, some Justice Leager/Robin/Terry McGinnis asks Wayne how he saw through the illusion and why he didn't break. Wayne says "I was hearing a voice calling me Bruce, but that's not what I call myself in my mind."
The other character asks "What do you call yourself?"

I disagree, I believe that in the trilogy Bruce Wayne's overarching plot was that he was beat within an inch of his life when his parents died, and became a lifeless, wandering soul. He then found the league of shadows and Batman was born. Bruce Wayne then latched onto Batman and is using him for survival and hopes to find Redemption with him. Then after the dark Knight Batman is effectively dead and Bruce Wayne is left with no protection, and he cannot grow because he hasn't gotten redemption for his parents death, so he hides from society. Then throughout the dark Knight rises Bruce Wayne is growing stronger, Batman dies for the city, and Bruce Wayne is resurrected in his place.

This is easily the most moist banana cake I have ever tasted
Equipment
1 saucepan
Ingredients
125 g butter
3/4 cup caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg
2 bananas mashed ripe
1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
1/4 cup milk
1 Dark Knight
METHOD
STEP 1-Melt the butter, sugar and vanilla in a medium sized saucepan.
STEP 2Remove from heat.
STEP 3-Add mashed bananas and stir through until just blended.
STEP 4-Add egg and mix in well. Stir in flour, add milk and mix lightly.
STEP 5-Bake at 170C for approximately 40 minutes.
Congratulations

They're different. They are compared on the basis that they're two cerebral animated comedies that touch on themes of isolation and existentialism. But their appraoches are night and day. Bojack takes direct aim on today's society tackling subgroubs and trends wheras Rick and Morty takes a more general approach mocking the concept of society as a whole. Bojack examines relationships through many interconnected characters where Rick and Morty focuses tightly on the same family. Bojack weaves together long storylines that span the season where Rick and Morty is more episodic, calling back to previous episodes only when needed for the current one. Outside of comedy, Rick and Morty uses action to entertain where Bojack uses drama.
They're both excellent shows that elevate their genre. Given their different subject matters and approaches to storytelling, they're going to appeal more to different people based on personal preference.

I thought you guys had given up on the Nolan trilogy! Now I'm stoked. I love Nolan!
If you fight Injustice with fear then gain control and rule with fear isn't there still injustice? It's just that the injustices is caused by one man instead. This lead me to wonder if injustice and evil are like energy, they can't be created or destroyed, just transfer. For instance if someone lashes out at you they may feel better after but now you may end up acting in ways that affect others in negative ways or you keep it with you. I know that it's a lot more complicated then that but it's an interesting line of thought.
it is a means to an end which Batman takes upon himself, like Logan uses his violence to save Laura from life of violence, its a transgression that is as much punishment to someone who does it, but Batman accepts that as a sacrifice to better society
But is there really an end? Barman's crusade for justice has caused more injustices to happen. Like the Joker said, once Batman started doing his thing a new class of criminal started immerging, and ended up balancing out pretty much to the same level it had been before.
ad that is why Robin showed up, because the fight is perpetual, similar to Trocky's idea that socialist revolution will happen every once in while because social stratification is inevitable, but it doesn't mean they have to give up, it means simply that it goes on, sometimes in circles, sometimes forward, but that is the point

The problem of Bruce wayne, is that the biggest problem in Gotham itself is not crime, but poverty that is the breeding ground for crime, and Bruce being a multi-billionaire doesn't seem to understand that and rather, focuses on evil as a force to be eradicated instead.
Yet Peter Parker is poor and becomes a hero, not a criminal. Also, criminals that do become rich rarely stop their criminal activities.
Nicholas Cross Yeah but it's not them to be blamed, it's the system, that's one. Another is that peter parker does not live in Gotham rather he lives in New York, a much fairer environment if you ask me.
@@blakops000007 Gotham is literally just New York City with a fake name attached. Poverty and criminality have no relationship, like Cross said. Joker had all the wealth in the city and it didn't affect his desire to hurt people one way or another.

I want to give this video more than a like. This might be the best thing Wisecrack has produced.
So, basically.... A person of sufficient capital procures something that person wants. Fellow capitalists desire that thing, but do not have sufficient capital, access, etc. Then they begin to begrudge that individual for literally no reason other than jealousy/envy. Repeat ad infinitum. Hmm, it's almost as if objectivism (or any individual philosophy which prioritizes greed) is a bad idea......
A poor man lived with his wife and six children in a very small one-room house. They were always getting in each other's way and there was so little space they could hardly breathe!

The poor man did as the rabbi said, but hurried back again the next day. "The chickens are gone, but Rabbi, the goat!" he moaned. "The goat is smashing up all the furniture and eating everything in sight!"
The good rabbi said, "Go home and remove the goat and may God bless you."
So the poor man went home and took the goat outside. But he ran back again to see the rabbi, crying and wailing. "What a nightmare you have brought to my house, Rabbi! With the cow it's like living in a stable! Can human beings live with an animal like this?"
The rabbi said sweetly, "My friend, you are right. May God bless you. Go home now and take the cow out of your house." And the poor man went quickly home and took the cow out of the house.
The next day he came running back to the rabbi again. "O Rabbi," he said with a big smile on his face, "we have such a good life now. The animals are all out of the house. The house is so quiet and we've got room to spare! What a joy!"
There's a Zen version of this that only involves a goat, but it's in the house for a week.
That's not what I got out of reading about Objectivism, but I digress.
Or, because value is subjective, there is exchange value in the creation of new goods and wise people should always question if what they own is important at this point of their lives or if the important thing is that they can have ownership. Not only is there a private benefit from the production and trade of those objects that inspire envy, but there is a public benefit, a positive externality, from the release of the feeling that someone else's sense of property must be violated.
I'd rather live in a society that is predicated on the admission that greed is intractable and universal and which has rules that protect the right to property, no matter if the particular object is expensive or cheap in market value, and believes that it is more honorable to live a commercial life than a martial one.

Objectivism just recognises the reality of the human creature and the world we live in. The only way to make progress and build a better society is by embracing our selfish nature and prioritising our own interests through property and trade. Anything else leads to chaos and violence.

The problem with the christ figure is that if they are... not imperfect, maybe a better term is hypocritical, some people will dismiss the simbol. There is a story that the peaceful Christ kills a kid that walked in front of him, Jhon Lennon was for the people but also increadibly rich, and Nelson Mandela was originaly a violent (although defencive) terrorist in his younger years.
These people therefore will never be simbols for 100% of the poeple, which is why they had an impact, but not a lasting one.
I think the best solution, instead of a figure, is a comunity value of compassion. The scandinavian nations do quite well because most of their citizens understand the system and their role in it (at least, I think).
Socrates, as reported by Plato, toys with the idea of Noble Lies as a foundation for a good society. You can see this in movies like "The Village" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." Your point is that Noble Lies tend to be fragile to investigation.
That said, it should be inspiring and reassuring that good and evil are water from the same well. There are no chosen ones who will come and balance out sins by dripping the world with their infinite, undiluted "Good." Instead, responsibility for a better world is a personal matter.

I think that some great thinking, I would say that relgions are based of symbol for those are who very golable enough on to believe the magic and knowing that its based of trick and lies and don't want to be criticized. Relgion never knows how to take criticism to well.

Even Christianity doesn't teach that a christ figure can inspire others to change their nature and do good. Christianity teaches that a person's nature has to be changed by Christ himself and only then can that person become good.

Part of being good is to accurately represent viewpoints with which you disagree. If that Christian teaching is true, then it should be expected that all human beings would, to some extent, misconstrue views they disagree with. I mean all human beings to include Christians as well because this side of the return of Christ, the sinful nature still has a hold on even those who've been justified.
You're missing the point -- go read up on Girard. And don't bring such a dogmatic approach to this video, which is clearly trying to introduce an understanding of Christianity shaped by Girardian ideas. The word "inspire" in this video should be taken very broadly. If we understand "inspire" to be related to the action of the Holy Spirit, then yes, this video actually does come pretty close to real Christian belief.
Even orthodox Christians argue about what it means to be given a new nature in Christ; you can hardly expect a pop culture video to mirror your own dogmas on the subject.
Frank McManus my own dogma is within the bounds of Christian orthodoxy. It sounds as if Girard may have misunderstood what the Christian view is and that you're suggesting I give up my view for his misunderstanding, and saying if I don't then I'm somehow wrong for doing so.
I believe the video asked the question of if we thought a Christ figure really could inspire others to do good. So my answer was an implied "no" because even Christianity, from which the word Christ obviously comes, and the view that I hold, doesn't even teach that. If the source of his terminology doesn't agree with him then I think that's a good reason to say the answer is no.
I understand you're coming from an orthodox Christian perspective, and I'm not asking you to give that up. I'm saying that if you look at things a little differently, you'll be able to see that Girard's perspective shines a light on certain aspects of Christ that have usually been ignored. His perspective is certainly consistent with Christian teaching -- I think Girard was an orthodox Catholic -- but he doesn't emphasize the classical doctrines. Instead he emphasizes the effect the gospel has had on the world in terms of its endless cycle of violence -- namely that it simultaneously undermines our fragile social cohesion based on sacred violence, and provides the only possible alternative to it, namely the life of discipleship. This video doesn't go that far, it just gives hints in that direction. I see it as a form of evangelism in the best sense -- asking people to begin thinking in different ways about who Jesus might really be. That's all.
I would recommend googling an essay from 1996 in the the periodical First Things, Joseph Bottum's "Girard Among the Girardians." I generally loathe First Things, because it's a very conservative Christian publication with a Catholic orientation, but this article changed the way I think about the world and about the faith. In the years since that essay was published, First Things has published many other works by and about Girard. A good introduction to Girard's thought that's a bit more amenable to flaky left-wing types like me is the book by Gil Bailie called Violence Unveiled. There's also a youtube channel called raventelevision devoted to a Christian understanding of Girard's ideas. Please don't think I'm trying to fuck with you. This is serious. You won't regret it if you explore this stuff further.
I just saw Thugnotes' 'The Great Inquisitor/Dark Knight' video, and he said that the two works share something of a thesis. Citizens will cast out a scapegoat, (usually based on a lie), in order to maintain peace, or as Thugnotes said, "get to that bread". But this begins an unbreaking cycle that never achieves true peace. So ultimately citizens need a Christ-like figure that they can look up to and aspire to being, or to bow down to in order to come close to achieving peace. I noticed that connection and I think that's so cool!
I've been watching Wisecrack for so long and it's really helped me craft my own stories and understanding the stories I was reading in my high school classes some years ago. Love the content man! Peace and love!

It had its merits, it’s just that most people compare it to Dark Knight and put it under the “not as good as” pile.

I've had this same discussion with a friend not too long ago. She said "wait would Batman really talk like that? it's kinda stupid" and i said "well sure it's easy to make fun of, but it's very plausible that he would, so that he doesn't get recognised as Bruce Wayne".

Yeah, but he is the most famous and richest citizen in Gotham. His voice will be known by quite a number of people. If Simon the local shoemaker was Batman, he might be able to afford using his regular voice, but when you're famous all over the country, not the mention the world, things aren't that simple. Sure, one can argue that being a billionaire he could afford a decent voice changer, but I guess money was better spent on a few extra batarangs.

I LOVE how Christopher Nolan made the characters arise out of the series and not just, "here's a new year and a new villain emerges." Having the villains grow from the world he built really is something.
