The cave scene didn't just hint that Luke can turn to the Dark Side, but also hinted that Vader could be his father. While your looking at the Dark Side chance, and logically Vader is the only Sith Luke encountered thus far. Luke could have used any look for his Dark self, but subconsciously the Force is giving him the chance to go down the same path his father took by having Dark Luke wearing Vader's life suit.
Paladin Demo I saw it as a both sort of thing. While there is a danger that Luke could turn to the dark side, it also hints that beyond the big scary helmet there is a man, more like Luke than he might be comfortable with.

Where in A New Hope he is an apprentice, this film marks the change in him that turns him into the Jedi master (or similar, i don't know enough about Star Wars to know if i'm correct in using that term). Full disclosure: I don't actually believe in tarot cards, but I do think there that is an element of wisdom in everything.
