Looking forward to "Ranking all 880 Power Moons in Super Mario Odyssey"
EDIT because I receive reply notifications almost every week which drives me crazy:
In Super Mario Odyssey there are 880 unique moons (technically 836 because of the multi moons which count as 2 extra moons) but in order to 100% the game (having a star on your save file) you need to collect every moon in every kingdom which sums up to 880 at the Odyssey counter. If you want you can max out the counter to 999 by buying 119 moons in the shop and then there will appear a hat on top of Peach's castle, which doesn't count to the 100% if you consider 100% as having a star on your file. If Nathaniel Bandy ranked all Power Moons in Odyssey he had to rank the 836 unique moons (because 880-2*(number of multi moons) = 880-2*22 = 836). It's hard to rank 119 shop moons.

Spoiler alert, most of the moons in Mario Odyssey are tedious busywork and less than like 25% of that 880 moon count are any kind of challenge at all.

It is one of the easiest stars to get, but back in the day if you were playing without any sort of guide it was difficult just to find.

Agreed. Few stars in this game makes my backside pucker but that's one. No risk of death but fall and the climb back up suuuuuuucks. And Tiny-Huge Island 100 coins is also more tedious for me. Especially getting the red coins and blue coins in that chamber. One wrong move and it's back to coin 1.

Been trying to get that star on 3D all stars for my first ever 120 star completion. But the inverted camera and running back after a death, is gonna be the roadblock for me to 100% the game sadly.

I feel the same way when looking at all the Shrine puzzles in Breath of the Wild
NoobSlayerAdvanced at least that game there are many ways to do things because the devs have you elemental tools. They had to know that people would do things the unintended way. In Mario 64 I think it was just an early 3d game and they underestimated player’s skill. Now in odyssey, they know this and put coins in hard to reach places for all skilled players

I remember when playing this game as a kid, number 10 was the very last star I got. The 100 coin stars were also really difficult and some of the last I collected (especially HMC and Rainbow Ride). Great list and video!

@Papa Juan Pablo With a lot of dedication and skill I have with video games, I was able to get all 120 stars within 2.5 weeks(nearly 3 weeks). It was my first time playing too, I actually did this recently.
I found #110 chest in the current to be one of the most frustrating that I have gotten so far. The hit box to open the last chest was all fucked up and I constantly kept getting pulled into the vortex. My blood pressure had to have been pretty high by the time I finished that one up 😅
Some of this order is kind of insane in my opinion. There’s a clock tower star pretty early on here, one of the hardest I’d say. This list also (at least so far) seems not to factor in much of the confusion of figuring out the star, just the platforming to get there.
Okay by the end I started to agree again. The 100 coins rainbow ride mission was definitely the last star for me that took me extra weeks before I got it

as a kid the last Whomp's Fortress star was straight up indecipherable for me - due to a really bad translation from English into my native language German. The star is called "Blast Away the wall", but in German it instead tells you to "Fly into the Blue" - exactly the opposite of what you actually have to do! I spent hours searching every single part of the blue sky in the level in the search of a random hidden star there. Suffice to say that I never found it until my parents had actually beaten the game and we could see the star in the credits video.

I’ve always found it confusing that there’s two stars called, Through the jet stream. Just found it weird.
I always had so much trouble with "The Snownman's Lost His Head" as a kid. I would always beat the head to the bottom, and stand next to the body, but the head just rolled right by and off the cliff.

Are you going to do ranking all 150 stars in SM64DS 3 or 4 months later?
If so, TTMs 100 coin star is one of the hardest, because after collection a bunch (around 50) from the slide, you can no longer go back to the rest of the level, so i had to collect all of them in the main level (there's barely enough), a lot of them are very tedious requiring you beat all of the enimies and use Mario's wing cap to collect some in the sky.
If i were to do it, it would basically a list of which stars get harder with the DS's controls and which stars are broken by just playing as luigi.
Tbh I believe the BBH switch star is the hardest,the timer is veeeeery short : it was the last star i grabbed

Actually you can buy bonus moons in shops to increase the counter, but the counter con only go to 999 after that buying moons is worthless and you would do better to get the moons the proper way

I know it may have been some time since maybe playing these games, but maybe you could rank the Super Mario Sunshine Shines easiest to hardest? Plus it'd be a slightly shorter list since there's only 96 to rank since 24 of them are exchanging the blue coins for shines
I've been playing some Mario 64 recently as part of 3D All Stars, and number 34 has probably been the hardest one for me so far. It was so hard that I just gave up after a while, and I'm the guy who has to 100% each level before moving onto the next.

I'm very curious how you determined difficulty. A lot of stars are very hidden but easy to get if you know where they are located. Is this just about collecting them, or the whole process?
So apparently there's 2 stars, in 2 different levels, that have the same name, the Jet Stream one. I get the acquisition of them vary, but it's the same name and that bothers me a little

The 100 coin stars were really easy for me back in the day. I’d always get lost looking for the objective and end up collecting more than enough coins as healing 9 times out of 10

I agree with a lot of your decisions here. Although personally the Tick Tock Clock 100 coin star was the hardest with Hazy maze cave 100 coming in a close second. Both of those are really frustrating. And the rainbow ride 100 star wasn’t that difficult for me. I did it on my second try with the blue coins although after getting the blue coins all the other coins were annoying to get. Almost all the 100 coin stars imo were difficult besides for like Whomps Fortress and Big Boos Haunt. Also I think Tick Tock Clock 100 is way harder that stomp on the thwomp because (well at least for me) i have no skill at this game and fell way too much and basically had to climb Tock Tock Clock like 20 times in order to get 100 coins.
Also I have a let’s play series on my channel if anyone’s interested... I don’t get all 120 stars only like 2-4 stars per level until the later levels

Why do you need to use the box in the cave? There's one right at the start, and the timing is just about as tight no matter which one you pick.
I don't know if it's just me having bad memories, but I remember my copy of the game having 121 Stars instead of 120. I also remember the Whomp King being A LOT harder than King Bob-omb.

Where did you find an extra star? I'm assuming a friend with a game shark gave a copy of the game to you and you didn't start a new file but rather play on one that was already there that was glitched with an extra secret star or something

Wow, this actually helped me get stars easily, especially angles for cannon stars.
As someone who played this game a LOT, I am shocked and surprised how early you listen Snowman's Lost His Head and Navigating The Toxic Maze. I suppose, once I knew how, the toxic maze wasn't really an obstacle, but it was the last star I ever got. But Snowman's Lost His Head? Come on, man! That was stupid hard!

I can believe you put behind the chain chomp in 97. You can literally do it in less than a minute, it can even be your first star. And you put this over slide levels and big bob omb on the summit

It is actually possible to get the 100 coin star without most of the blue coins, but it can be pretty difficult.

I audibly went "WHAAT!" when I saw the vortex chests star 10th easiest: the janky hit boxes make that last chest difficult to get, and then you die and have to do it all over again. It's definitely in the harder half of stars.
