The ball rolling stars are actually pretty fun imo. It would be way worse if it was a major gameplay mechanic but specially designed levels make it so much better
Fun fact: for the lava spire, yes the lava does rise, but in a lot of spots it actually stops until you cross certain checkpoints, so there's not as much intensity if you know where they are
FYI, you don't have to get ahead of the autoscroller in Battlestation's purple coins. If you get behind (say it takes you some extra time to get the coins on top of a Thwomp), you can wait and another platform will appear.
When we train our military, we love to play Super Mario Galaxy music as it inspires them to keep moving forward towards the final goal. Music is quite the powerful weapon. Music cleanses the understanding and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself. Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can't.
Once I learned that in Battlestations Purple Coins, I could wait on a non-moving platform for as long as I wanted, the mission became much easier. I could use those non-moving platforms to catch my breath for a bit and wait for the next moving platform to come along and pick me up.
17:55 A lot of people have trouble with Bouldergeist. I did too, until I figured him out. The secret is to attack him not at range - but at close corridors.
Nintendo understands just how much more atmosphere a game has with quality music. And this couldn't be truer with the Galaxy soundtracks. The music makes it so easy to get lost while playing the games. Makes me wish I didn't take for granted the time that I played them. It's enough to make a grown man cry...and that's okay
Fun fact: You can shoot star bits at Major Burrows when he is stunned and running, which majorly slows him down and makes him easier to spin against. Extra fun fact: You can shoot star bits (or throw a shell) at Bowser Jr. in Sinking the Airships. He drops a ton of star bits for doing so!
Here we go, a comprehensive list of my favorite game of all time's brilliant gallery of levels! (Except for the trash disposal Stars those can eat antimatter) I love the weird one-off Galaxies, especially Drip Drop Galaxy, it's so lonely and intriguing. I'd say it's our modern-day Wet-Dry World.
Every playthrough of Galaxy, Battlestation's Purple Coins is always star 120 for me, I'm not sure if it's always the 120th or not, but I always hate that it's the last one, as soon as the platform travels vertically, all of my skills head out
19:12 it’s very possible to do this without waiting on the dice, you can just jump with the ball. It’s enough height to make it. Also how the hell is dare devil bouldergeist at number 50, hardest star in the game And the sea slide purple coin star, so hard and time consuming cus if you mess up u start over and it could be common.
NB is the only TH-camr that I’ve watched for almost 10 years and still makes great content. Keep it up! Would love to see a list like this for galaxy 2 cause that’s my favorite game ever!
@@Silvermetal954 I think both games have better things than the other, but I hate how the powerup distribution in 2 is so unbalanced. The cloud flower is really overused, appearing 11 times, while all the returning powerups appear like twice each. Even the rainbow star and fireflower appear 5 times or less. I like all the powerups, so to only be able to use the spring and Boo once and bee twice is a huge disappointment. 2 has better levels though, and more of them, and the green stars are much better than just getting Luigi. I especially like the final world levels and starship Mario. Galaxy one has a better atmosphere though, and I like the purple coin and other comet challenges that aren't as much in 2.
I started this video thinking “wow he’s ranking great levels really low” but then I realized that this game just has fantastic levels too to bottom. This game is just so amazing for the Mario series
@@mariomaster101official Nice, whilst smo is better speedrunning wise (it's incredibly satisfying) It gets dry quick Whereas SMG-SMG2 are infinitely replayable
The star i had a tough time on was on Kamella's boss fight daredevil challenge on the Deep Dark Galaxy. On the first part is easy, but once she gets on the top part of the ship the fun begins. She convokes 2 Kameks and that's the worst part of it, because the top part of the ship's space is smaller than the down part. So you need to jump every time to dodge the fireballs they throw you. I almost broke my wii remote playing this star. Never again.
Man I have rewatched your videos back then about the hardest Galaxy stars and even the easiest but now that it's in a rank list, I love that I now can hear your thoughts on every single one individually. Much love and awesome job on these videos😄😄
Fun fact, for the bubble blast off star I was too dumb to realize I had to light the torches to get the freeze flower, so I just found a glitch and skipped half the level. At first I thought that was actually what you were supposed to do. I guess not
So glad you’re still doing these awesome ranking videos! I would love it if you would rank every star in Mario Galaxy 2 and every moon in Mario Odyssey.
I don't think any of the timer-less Purple Coins missions should've been ranked *so* high. Yes, it takes quite some time, but the Purple Coins aren't difficult to get.
I just got all 120 stars with Mario and I agree with your #1 pick 100%. It was the last star I got and it was so frustrating every time I failed. I can't believe I was actually able to accomplish this 😊
Nathaniel. You are seriously amazing and everybody respects how you can make so much fun and engaging content every week for us to enjoy. Keep up the good work and know we all support you!
When NB brought up the old hardest galaxy stars top 10 in the intro I felt so much nostalgia. Not to mention that original top ten was my first NB video.
With #3, I think it's the hardest in the game for me. I recently was replaying the game again but as Luigi, on the Switch in HANDHELD MODE and I just kept getting hit when trying to rush through and grab all the purple coins when going with the pull stars was pissing me off lmao. I think the touch screen for the pull stars is hard especially when you're in a hurry but that's just me lol
I remember watching a tutorial to complete an SMG1 level and it had a jumpscare. This happened when I was around 10 years old. Don't exactly remember what level.
If there's one thing that the star at the top and bottom of this list have in common, it's that they both have one purple coin that's relatively well hidden
21:15 in this one you can have the tower rised up and from the button that is rised up as well, you can make a triple jump and the third jump making it at the button, and then make a spin at the top of the jump the bullet bill barely detects you so you don't need to lower the tower back and forth
Interesting video. I was kind of surprised to see The Electic Labyrinth at only #25. I always thought that one was pretty tough. Also, I'm not sure I agree with a lot of the exploration-based purple coin missions that are higher on the list. Sure, they take a while, but most of the time there's not really much danger, it's just a matter of finding them all. I'd say they're usually more tedious than difficult. I do agree with some of the higher picks though. Lava Spire Dardevil run is absolutely a top 10 star. I'd honestly probably put it even higher than #7. Battlestation's purple coins and Luigi's Purple Coins are also quite difficult, so they make sense to be in the top 10.
If you're playing handheld mode in the bubble levels, you can quickly make microadjustments with your thumbs. On the original galaxy with wiimote, it might have been awkward.
@@lazyryan3766 That's an interesting point. I've mainly been playing it in 3D All-Stars in docked mode which uses gyro controls, so I'm not using my thumb for it. But yeah, even that is probably a bit less awkward than on the wii. I've had an easier time with that level as I've gotten older, but it's kind of hard to tell if that's because I've gotten better at it over the years or because the controls are easier to work with on switch.
I'm amazed by how few people I've seen mark Battlestation's Purple Coins as their hardest. It certainly was for me and I see you're in agreement, Nathaniel.
there is something better than making every platform go away on the satellite, long jumping afterwards and going into temporary orbit of the power star
FUN FACT: Number 88 has a glitch where you can backflip onto one of the rocks and then long jump to the star area where you can collect the Power Star.
next can you make a video where you rank the stars overall? like not in terms of difficulty, but how fun they are? also pls do this for galaxy 2 as well, just exclude the green stars
Painting the Planet Yellow is very easy but it seems kinda too low considering the spiky moving platforms and the electric gates… it seems at least harder than the gold shell one.
The reason why the camera is so bad at 4:10 is because the Flying Star (or Red Star) has it's own camera. When you are actively flying with the power-up, the camera is set to always follow Mario and be behind him, however, THIS IS THE ONLY CAMERA THAT WORKS NORMALLY!! Landing or losing the power-up does NOT make the game use the regular camera areas for the level, causing the cameras to break. This is not 100% accurate, but it's what I've gathered from playing around with it a bit.
This is a very interesting thing to watch because I just beat every star like 2 or 3 weeks ago and my list would be completely different and I struggle with completely different things. Pretty much the only thing our lists would agree on is that battle station purple coins is the stupidest garbage in the game and I hate doing it so much.
Oh god the game of my first ragequit: ~6 months. I just love everything of it. It is such a weird sensation to replay it years later and see that what I found insanely difficult was actually easy.
The lava spire daredevil run was a missed opportunity to reference the time he went "Oh, you want that checkpoint? Sure, I'll give it to you, but nah, you can't have it!"
I really love this game so much! Everything about it besides the tough difficulties and boring fun factors is just amazing, from the music to the overall setting--like, good golly gracious! Going back to it several years ago brought tears to my eyes...
cant really accept Luigis Purple Coins not being on Place 1. I beat the entire game in like a week or 2 back when it came out and it took me like 3 weeks again just to beat that level, its so brutal. (To be fair, i didnt knew back then that there were more coins than you need, so i was trying to figure out the perfect route to get all the coins, resetting every time when i missed one)
1:17 when I was like 8 years old, my dumb ass didn't realise that you had to step on all the switches at the end of this star, so I'd actually consider this one rather difficult based on that
I played Galaxy as a young kid. I got the game when I was only like 7 years old and with the coordination of a clumsy 7 year old, some of the stars you marked as extremely easy turned into some very tricky stars for me all because I couldn't do platforming super well as a young kid. Stars that are super easy as an experienced player can actually be way more tricky than even some of the harder stars if you aren't well experienced.
It took me SOO long to find Deep Dark Galaxys secret star. I would hunt all over the galaxy and had no clue what to do. Now would you know to hit this random ship with a shell? Eventually I found it out but it was so anoying.
Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games that never gets old no matter how many times you play it and I love it for that It truly is a staple in gaming history just because of how revolutionary it was when the Wii came out and how it made motion controls actually fun compared to most
You know what makes the 'hardest' star on this ranking even worse? There is a secret sling star that you may not have noticed, but if you use it, it takes you off the path of the last purple coin.
Surprisingly, my uncle beat the Dreadnought purple coin mission when he played the game on the 3D All-Stars game I got him for Christmas last year, but he could never beat Battlerock or Toy Time, so I had to help him.

For the purple coins with the autoscroller part, I actually figured out a nice cheat. If you're on a platform that isn't moving and you can't keep up, eventually the moving platform will respawn and let you continue. So really, you don't need to move ahead of it
Heavy Metal Mecha Bowser will always and forever be the best star in the game for me. So much nostalgia for that level and I have always loved the design!
As someone with a motor impairment (a combination of having no sense of position [funnily making standing on one foot about as easy as standing on two due to the tendency for me to be standing mostly on one anyway], lacklustre motor control [OT was needed to be able to stay in the lines of a maze, writing still sucks, and wall collisions aren’t uncommon; my ability to work as an engineer is definitely not helped by this], and processing delay [need to compensate for sensory processing errors]), it’s interesting seeing what most struggle with and pass with ease. The fire flower levels, star ball levels, bubble levels, and spring levels all definitely were harder for me.

The ball rolling stars are actually pretty fun imo. It would be way worse if it was a major gameplay mechanic but specially designed levels make it so much better
Omg no I absolutely hate ball running. On the switch specifically
the motion controls feel so janky on switch
They're so hard though, well, at least the last time I've played-
Yeah, almost as fun as the Ray Surfing ones.
To be honest that was the easiest part of that star (at least for me) for that exact reason.
Today i learned
W H A T
I wish i new that before
When we train our military, we love to play Super Mario Galaxy music as it inspires them to keep moving forward towards the final goal. Music is quite the powerful weapon. Music cleanses the understanding and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself. Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can't.
Thank you Kim Jong-Un, very cool!
this is why True Korea will be able to defeat the Americans
It's enough to make a grown man cry...and that's okay
well said
Fun fact: You can shoot star bits at Major Burrows when he is stunned and running, which majorly slows him down and makes him easier to spin against.
Extra fun fact: You can shoot star bits (or throw a shell) at Bowser Jr. in Sinking the Airships. He drops a ton of star bits for doing so!
Here we go, a comprehensive list of my favorite game of all time's brilliant gallery of levels!
(Except for the trash disposal Stars those can eat antimatter)
I love the weird one-off Galaxies, especially Drip Drop Galaxy, it's so lonely and intriguing. I'd say it's our modern-day Wet-Dry World.
Totally spot on with that. I love how lonely and isolated/contained they are. I get bigmouth and drip drop mixed up tho but i like em both
Every playthrough of Galaxy, Battlestation's Purple Coins is always star 120 for me, I'm not sure if it's always the 120th or not, but I always hate that it's the last one, as soon as the platform travels vertically, all of my skills head out
19:12 it’s very possible to do this without waiting on the dice, you can just jump with the ball. It’s enough height to make it. Also how the hell is dare devil bouldergeist at number 50, hardest star in the game
And the sea slide purple coin star, so hard and time consuming cus if you mess up u start over and it could be common.
NB is the only TH-camr that I’ve watched for almost 10 years and still makes great content. Keep it up! Would love to see a list like this for galaxy 2 cause that’s my favorite game ever!
Oh my God someone else who thinks galaxy 2 is better than 1 not alone the best game of all yime
I'll get to that eventually!
@@noname-jt6kl Yeah the power up distribution isn’t great but I still think it’s the best game ever made

I started this video thinking “wow he’s ranking great levels really low” but then I realized that this game just has fantastic levels too to bottom. This game is just so amazing for the Mario series
I like how there was nothing bad to say about the levels. That shows how much of a masterpiece this game is.

You don't know how much I struggled with that star when I first played this game.
This list is based off the switch port which significantly improved the motion controls, and therefore making the levels significantly easier.
@@rollinroby4920 I played it on the Switch when I first played itm
Same
The star i had a tough time on was on Kamella's boss fight daredevil challenge on the Deep Dark Galaxy.
You can just kill those Kameks-
@@fangier0 I know and i did it. But when i was to just one hit before i beat her, she convoked them again and they got me.
@@heavygamingtf2 I didn't know they respawn. Maybe it's just easy for me.

Man I have rewatched your videos back then about the hardest Galaxy stars and even the easiest but now that it's in a rank list, I love that I now can hear your thoughts on every single one individually. Much love and awesome job on these videos😄😄
Nathaniel: Seriously, every single star in this game is a blast!
Nathaniel 5 minutes later: These purple coin missions suck and take forever!
The purple coin missions may suck and take forever, but they're still fun 😁
@@bearitoboy especially with a guide.
Hold uh'. Ain't you Nathaniel B?
Fun fact, for the bubble blast off star I was too dumb to realize I had to light the torches to get the freeze flower, so I just found a glitch and skipped half the level. At first I thought that was actually what you were supposed to do. I guess not
XD
This brings me back to the “Top 10 Easiest/Hardest Stars” videos from 5-8 years ago. Good times.
Too bad that some of those opinions are outdated
So glad you’re still doing these awesome ranking videos! I would love it if you would rank every star in Mario Galaxy 2 and every moon in Mario Odyssey.
I've honestly been waiting for this for a long time, thank you Nathaniel for ranking one of my favorite games of all time
had no idea I could run Bill Board over with the ball and now im going to do just that
I will never stop playing this game. I'm too emotionally attached to it.
I'm so happy to see another ranking video on one of my favorite Nintendo games.
Hold up aint you nathaniel b
I don't think any of the timer-less Purple Coins missions should've been ranked *so* high. Yes, it takes quite some time, but the Purple Coins aren't difficult to get.
2:29 Wow! I remember when I had first played Galaxy, I had SOOO much trouble with Rocky Road, I was happy when I finally beat it!
I just got all 120 stars with Mario and I agree with your #1 pick 100%. It was the last star I got and it was so frustrating every time I failed. I can't believe I was actually able to accomplish this 😊
congrats!! i just completed the whole game several months ago so I definitely get that feeling os accomplishment💪
I just got all 120 as well, that same level was killing me so I went in search of who thought the same 😂👍
7:30 This is seriously the first time I’ve seen anyone mess up on the word “barrage”.
Nathaniel. You are seriously amazing and everybody respects how you can make so much fun and engaging content every week for us to enjoy. Keep up the good work and know we all support you!
When I was younger that was the hardest star surfing 101 I died at least 100 times and he saying that you can’t die makes me feel defeated
Sometimes I consider replaying Mario Galaxy. And then I realize that purple coins by the seaside exists.
bruh just ignore it
When NB brought up the old hardest galaxy stars top 10 in the intro I felt so much nostalgia.
Pull star path is one of the stars on my top 5. The music, the atmosphere, all great
If there's one thing that the star at the top and bottom of this list have in common, it's that they both have one purple coin that's relatively well hidden
I've been waiting for this video for years!!! It's so cool to see this video finally come! Thank you Nathaniel Bandy 😊
The best one about 21(~26:00) is it's one of the best ways to farm star bits, but importantly 1ups because of it. I frickin' love it for that reason.
I'm amazed by how few people I've seen mark Battlestation's Purple Coins as their hardest. It certainly was for me and I see you're in agreement, Nathaniel.
there is something better than making every platform go away on the satellite, long jumping afterwards and going into temporary orbit of the power star
Great vid as always Nathaniel! I’d love to see every Shine in Sunshine ranked next!
32:38 Reminder: You can just hang out on the top of that Thwomp and wait for another platform to come.
i've tried taht and it doesn't work
@@Albert_Pecanio Really? I’ve done it.
I really like these videos. Hope bandys universe is working well!
The bubble blowing parts are easier in handheld mode where you can quickly correct with your thumbs
Hold up ain’t you Nathaniel B?
This is the funniest unfunny thing ive ever seen lol
The purple battle course coin was frustrating but damm satisfying
You must do Super Mario Galaxy 2 next! I love this! Also, you need to rank every Mario RPG boss!
Hold up, ain’t you Nathaniel B?
This is a very interesting thing to watch because I just beat every star like 2 or 3 weeks ago and my list would be completely different and I struggle with completely different things. Pretty much the only thing our lists would agree on is that battle station purple coins is the stupidest garbage in the game and I hate doing it so much.
Oh god the game of my first ragequit: ~6 months. I just love everything of it. It is such a weird sensation to replay it years later and see that what I found insanely difficult was actually easy.
16:05 "So you're gonna have to jump for the duration of this fight." I proved you wrong literally 3 days ago
Can't ever get enough of this game and SMG2. Absolutely love them.
Same I haven't finished galaxy 2 yet but galaxy 1 is my favourite game of all time
The lava spire daredevil run was a missed opportunity to reference the time he went "Oh, you want that checkpoint?
Thank you so much for bringing me back to my childhood! What a great game this was, hope you can also rank every star in Galaxy 2 :)
Great video! Just a note, on star number 90: Battlerock barrage, the second word is pronounced Bar-raj
When the rabbit game comes out will you do good and bad or trigger?
1:17 when I was like 8 years old, my dumb ass didn't realise that you had to step on all the switches at the end of this star, so I'd actually consider this one rather difficult based on that
Aint you nathan-
I played Galaxy as a young kid. I got the game when I was only like 7 years old and with the coordination of a clumsy 7 year old, some of the stars you marked as extremely easy turned into some very tricky stars for me all because I couldn't do platforming super well as a young kid. Stars that are super easy as an experienced player can actually be way more tricky than even some of the harder stars if you aren't well experienced.
hol up ain't you nathaniel b?
It took me SOO long to find Deep Dark Galaxys secret star. I would hunt all over the galaxy and had no clue what to do. Now would you know to hit this random ship with a shell? Eventually I found it out but it was so anoying.

Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games that never gets old no matter how many times you play it and I love it for that
It truly is a staple in gaming history just because of how revolutionary it was when the Wii came out and how it made motion controls actually fun compared to most
ain't you Nathaniel B
I just beat super mario galaxy after trying for over 7 years and 2 consoles wii and switch. Man i love this game.
But hold on ain’t you Nathaniel B????
You know what makes the 'hardest' star on this ranking even worse?
There is a secret sling star that you may not have noticed, but if you use it, it takes you off the path of the last purple coin.

Am I the only one who thought Bouldergeist's Daredevil Run was one of the hardest in the game?

So like, for a Christmas that bandy can give us, I'd say he should rank every mainline mario party minigame. 1-10
