I love every single thing about Galaxy. Each Galaxy has so much detail and personality, the score is wonderful, Rosalina’s story is genuinely full of emotion, the Lumas are adorable, the game plays so perfectly. Absolute masterpiece and a perfect example of just how amazing a game can truly be.
Both games, but specifically the first one, are flawless

That ending section was like a fabled area I only knew existed because of the intro back then lol, child me could never make it past the first corner on the big spinning chocolate platform, and getting there alone took forever too. So many game overs lol. Obviously now it's a total cakewalk (pun intended) but as a child first playing it it was incredibly hard.

The ball rolling stars are actually pretty fun imo. It would be way worse if it was a major gameplay mechanic but specially designed levels make it so much better

FYI, you don't have to get ahead of the autoscroller in Battlestation's purple coins. If you get behind (say it takes you some extra time to get the coins on top of a Thwomp), you can wait and another platform will appear.
To be honest that was the easiest part of that star (at least for me) for that exact reason.

Fun fact: for the lava spire, yes the lava does rise, but in a lot of spots it actually stops until you cross certain checkpoints, so there's not as much intensity if you know where they are

And the sea slide purple coin star, so hard and time consuming cus if you mess up u start over and it could be common.
When we train our military, we love to play Super Mario Galaxy music as it inspires them to keep moving forward towards the final goal. Music is quite the powerful weapon. Music cleanses the understanding and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself. Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can't.

Nintendo understands just how much more atmosphere a game has with quality music. And this couldn't be truer with the Galaxy soundtracks. The music makes it so easy to get lost while playing the games. Makes me wish I didn't take for granted the time that I played them. It's enough to make a grown man cry...and that's okay

Once I learned that in Battlestations Purple Coins, I could wait on a non-moving platform for as long as I wanted, the mission became much easier. I could use those non-moving platforms to catch my breath for a bit and wait for the next moving platform to come along and pick me up.
Fun fact: You can shoot star bits at Major Burrows when he is stunned and running, which majorly slows him down and makes him easier to spin against.
Extra fun fact: You can shoot star bits (or throw a shell) at Bowser Jr. in Sinking the Airships. He drops a ton of star bits for doing so!

I love the weird one-off Galaxies, especially Drip Drop Galaxy, it's so lonely and intriguing. I'd say it's our modern-day Wet-Dry World.

Every playthrough of Galaxy, Battlestation's Purple Coins is always star 120 for me, I'm not sure if it's always the 120th or not, but I always hate that it's the last one, as soon as the platform travels vertically, all of my skills head out

I started this video thinking “wow he’s ranking great levels really low” but then I realized that this game just has fantastic levels too to bottom. This game is just so amazing for the Mario series

@@Silvermetal954 I think both games have better things than the other, but I hate how the powerup distribution in 2 is so unbalanced. The cloud flower is really overused, appearing 11 times, while all the returning powerups appear like twice each. Even the rainbow star and fireflower appear 5 times or less. I like all the powerups, so to only be able to use the spring and Boo once and bee twice is a huge disappointment.
2 has better levels though, and more of them, and the green stars are much better than just getting Luigi. I especially like the final world levels and starship Mario.
Galaxy one has a better atmosphere though, and I like the purple coin and other comet challenges that aren't as much in 2.

You don't know how much I struggled with that star when I first played this game.
This list is based off the switch port which significantly improved the motion controls, and therefore making the levels significantly easier.

Surprisingly, my uncle beat the Dreadnought purple coin mission when he played the game on the 3D All-Stars game I got him for Christmas last year, but he could never beat Battlerock or Toy Time, so I had to help him.
Man I have rewatched your videos back then about the hardest Galaxy stars and even the easiest but now that it's in a rank list, I love that I now can hear your thoughts on every single one individually. Much love and awesome job on these videos😄😄
The star i had a tough time on was on Kamella's boss fight daredevil challenge on the Deep Dark Galaxy. On the first part is easy, but once she gets on the top part of the ship the fun begins. She convokes 2 Kameks and that's the worst part of it, because the top part of the ship's space is smaller than the down part. So you need to jump every time to dodge the fireballs they throw you. I almost broke my wii remote playing this star. Never again.

I like how there was nothing bad to say about the levels. That shows how much of a masterpiece this game is.

Too bad that some of those opinions are outdated
The reason why the camera is so bad at 4:10 is because the Flying Star (or Red Star) has it's own camera. When you are actively flying with the power-up, the camera is set to always follow Mario and be behind him, however, THIS IS THE ONLY CAMERA THAT WORKS NORMALLY!! Landing or losing the power-up does NOT make the game use the regular camera areas for the level, causing the cameras to break.
This is not 100% accurate, but it's what I've gathered from playing around with it a bit.
I will never stop playing this game. I'm too emotionally attached to it.

There's actually a shortcut glitch that you can do in the level through the poison swamp. If you don't know what I'm talking about then search it up, you basically skip the whole level by doing it. Also I love how we agree more on the harder stars than the easier ones.
Sometimes I consider replaying Mario Galaxy. And then I realize that purple coins by the seaside exists.

21:15 in this one you can have the tower rised up and from the button that is rised up as well, you can make a triple jump and the third jump making it at the button, and then make a spin at the top of the jump the bullet bill barely detects you so you don't need to lower the tower back and forth
This is a very interesting thing to watch because I just beat every star like 2 or 3 weeks ago and my list would be completely different and I struggle with completely different things. Pretty much the only thing our lists would agree on is that battle station purple coins is the stupidest garbage in the game and I hate doing it so much.
next can you make a video where you rank the stars overall? like not in terms of difficulty, but how fun they are?

I just got all 120 stars with Mario and I agree with your #1 pick 100%. It was the last star I got and it was so frustrating every time I failed. I can't believe I was actually able to accomplish this 😊

The bubble blowing parts are easier in handheld mode where you can quickly correct with your thumbs
With #3, I think it's the hardest in the game for me. I recently was replaying the game again but as Luigi, on the Switch in HANDHELD MODE and I just kept getting hit when trying to rush through and grab all the purple coins when going with the pull stars was pissing me off lmao. I think the touch screen for the pull stars is hard especially when you're in a hurry but that's just me lol
Interesting video. I was kind of surprised to see The Electic Labyrinth at only #25. I always thought that one was pretty tough. Also, I'm not sure I agree with a lot of the exploration-based purple coin missions that are higher on the list. Sure, they take a while, but most of the time there's not really much danger, it's just a matter of finding them all. I'd say they're usually more tedious than difficult.
I do agree with some of the higher picks though. Lava Spire Dardevil run is absolutely a top 10 star. I'd honestly probably put it even higher than #7. Battlestation's purple coins and Luigi's Purple Coins are also quite difficult, so they make sense to be in the top 10.
If you're playing handheld mode in the bubble levels, you can quickly make microadjustments with your thumbs. On the original galaxy with wiimote, it might have been awkward.
@@lazyryan3766 That's an interesting point. I've mainly been playing it in 3D All-Stars in docked mode which uses gyro controls, so I'm not using my thumb for it. But yeah, even that is probably a bit less awkward than on the wii. I've had an easier time with that level as I've gotten older, but it's kind of hard to tell if that's because I've gotten better at it over the years or because the controls are easier to work with on switch.
The best one about 21(~26:00) is it's one of the best ways to farm star bits, but importantly 1ups because of it. I frickin' love it for that reason.

I don't think any of the timer-less Purple Coins missions should've been ranked *so* high. Yes, it takes quite some time, but the Purple Coins aren't difficult to get.

I have always said that battlestations purple coins are the hardest. (For whatever reason I always called is dreadnought’s purple coins) I once did a playthrough where I tried to get all 120 stars without dying and I saved it for last because I knew it was the hardest and of course I got my first death on it😂
I'm amazed by how few people I've seen mark Battlestation's Purple Coins as their hardest. It certainly was for me and I see you're in agreement, Nathaniel.

As someone with a motor impairment (a combination of having no sense of position [funnily making standing on one foot about as easy as standing on two due to the tendency for me to be standing mostly on one anyway], lacklustre motor control [OT was needed to be able to stay in the lines of a maze, writing still sucks, and wall collisions aren’t uncommon; my ability to work as an engineer is definitely not helped by this], and processing delay [need to compensate for sensory processing errors]), it’s interesting seeing what most struggle with and pass with ease. The fire flower levels, star ball levels, bubble levels, and spring levels all definitely were harder for me.

Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games that never gets old no matter how many times you play it and I love it for that
It truly is a staple in gaming history just because of how revolutionary it was when the Wii came out and how it made motion controls actually fun compared to most
I really love this game so much! Everything about it besides the tough difficulties and boring fun factors is just amazing, from the music to the overall setting--like, good golly gracious! Going back to it several years ago brought tears to my eyes...

The lava spire daredevil run was a missed opportunity to reference the time he went "Oh, you want that checkpoint? Sure, I'll give it to you, but nah, you can't have it!"
there is something better than making every platform go away on the satellite, long jumping afterwards and going into temporary orbit of the power star

Oh god the game of my first ragequit: ~6 months. I just love everything of it. It is such a weird sensation to replay it years later and see that what I found insanely difficult was actually easy.

Oh, and also, I recently finished a playthrough in honor of the game's 15th anniversary, and sometimes when I entered a hard level on this list, I knew it was gonna be hard, but I managed to do them in an easier way than I thought. I did fail at Lava Spire Daredevil Run a few times, but I sure didn't choke at the end; it was because I either blacked out or was just impatient. Also, for example, I was so fast with Purple Coins in the Bone Pen that I got the Star with eight seconds to spare. Not to mention, I thought Battlestation's Purple Coins was also one of the hardest levels in the game, but I got it on the first try because I took my time and all that jazz. While I got it on the first try, I still agree with you that it's hard if you take too long to collect several coins in at least one area in the autoscroller.

You know what makes the 'hardest' star on this ranking even worse?
There is a secret sling star that you may not have noticed, but if you use it, it takes you off the path of the last purple coin.
FUN FACT: Number 88 has a glitch where you can backflip onto one of the rocks and then long jump to the star area where you can collect the Power Star.

For "Sinking the Airships," I managed to beat the boss part without damage by literally being both a coward by staying at the very bottom level and also the greatest Mario Galaxy player to ever live through the use of tons of backflips over every single one of his attacks timed perfectly to grab shells in between.
For the purple coins with the autoscroller part, I actually figured out a nice cheat. If you're on a platform that isn't moving and you can't keep up, eventually the moving platform will respawn and let you continue. So really, you don't need to move ahead of it
I remember having as good as bad times, because of the wiimote nunchuck controls.
On switch, mo problems with the gyroscope.
And I had first try the boo mansion's coin on both versions
Probably not the best time to tell you that in the platforms in Dreadnought's purple coin mission respawn in certain places if you fall behind
