Well I feel like the reason NB brought it up here is that it's especially apparent with Mario Party, considering the design philosophies of the games.
I grew up with 1-5 I grew up in the N64/GameCube era but MP3 was always my favorite lol
i'm so glad you ranked mario party ds so high because it honestly is such an underrated mario party game, i rarely hear people talk about it even though it really is a fantastic game :")
It was actually pretty funny watching Jon over at Runawayguys playing this. Mostly because I think Jon would consider DS one of the worst at what happened and how much heavier the RNG is for the game. I honestly loved it when I was younger but now I see the flaws the game has and consider some of the RNG to the level of Mario Party 9 or 10. But not as terrible as those games.
I played it in my childhot alot. And you could share it to other players without them having the game. Me and my best friend played it all night long. Really miss those times.

I would like to say Mario party 8 had some very cool special modes, the ghost mansion level is extremely fun along with koopas tycoon, and the games are some classics; shake it up, the tower climb, cut the strings, clean chain chomp and some other great games. Mario party 8 did not deserve such a bad spot on the list.
To me Mario Party 8 is the best polished from the Wii - Switch Era. I've only played 4, 8, 9, & Super mario Party so far in that order so I might be bias asf.

Legit. Make MP8 for switch. Better graphics. Polish the boards a bit. Maybe give them a few new fields. And much more minigames. Dont need to develop a whole new game. Just remake the old games but make them better with the new technology we have (I mean graphics and minigames etc.). Maybe throw in 2 new Boards just for fun and lets go. Perfect MP in my eyes

Going from Super on the Switch to 7 on the Gamecube feels like a completely different experience. The boards feel more alive, the overall game feels faster, and moving across the entire board in one roll feels amazing.

I didnt think that DS would be ranked so high. Thank you for appreciating the creativity that went into designing the boards and minigames.
One positive I will say for Mario Party 9 is that I enjoyed the story mode. I thought it was a well-structured framing device and the boss battles they added to the regular Mario Party gameplay was able to keep it exciting. I will admit I'm a little biased since I did grow up with 9 (along with 8 and DS) and I haven't played it in a while to see if it holds up, but I remember having a lot of fun with it. Though I also remember being super impressed with the graphics which I know for a fact wouldn't be the same a decade later
I’m interested in these ranking vids because I don’t have nostalgia bias. I didn’t play these games growing up. I’ve played both for the Switch, I just played 9 for the first time with my girlfriend last night and we had such a great time! I like moving your character by themselves but the group thing wasn’t so bad fr.

Man I grew up playing SO MUCH Mario party 8. So many fun memories. Though I’d say Mario party DS was still my preferred of the two during that era
I really loved Mario Party 9 when I was a kid. I have so many fun memories of that game. However now that I’m grown up I see all the many flaws in that game. However I still like it because of how much it made me happy as a kid.

It’s definitely one of the least flawed in the series. With that being said, as great as the minigames are, the 1v3 minigames for the most part are dogwater. Half of them are unfair for 1 side. Block and Roll is a pain if you’re the solo player

The sad thing that 7 came out at the end of the GameCube’s lifespan in 2005, and the DS was the new thing people was into, so 7 was forgotten quicker than expected. It’s basically like Mega Man Zero 4, which came out at the end of the GBA’s lifespan, when the DS was already out. It hurts

7 is the most refined, has the best collection of maps, a great collection of mini games, and has the most content besides 8. People who rank it lower likely have never played it much because having played all of the mario partys starting with 2, I think it's arguably the objective best of the bunch nostalgia aside.

3 will always be the absolute best one in the series to me. Biggest reason is the way it handles items. I think there's a chance I would have liked MP2 more if it allowed players to carry three items at once. 3 just allows for so much more strategy because of this.
Also, another thing I like about 3 is how, even if you don't have a skeleton key, you can walk the path that leads up to the gates, only to turn back the way you came. This allows you to force landing on a different space than you would have if you walked the other way.

Honestly MP3 doesn’t get enough credit. It’s always being overshadowed by MP2 even though I would say that MP3 is not only objectively better than MP2, but also objectively the best game in the series. It hands down had the best board and item mechanics in the entire series. You had so many different movement options like gate manipulation to land on a different space, action time which could be both detrimental but also useful to reposition to a different location, and probably my favorite thing of all in MP3 the reverse mushroom. The only game in the series that let you move in reverse. Honestly MP3 has not been topped when it came to mechanics.

Bland as it may have been to some I can't imagine Mario Party 5 being anywhere but the top of the list. I grew up playing it, and still play it regularly even to this day. Each map feels unique with their surroundings and paths, and the capsules offer an amazing depth of strategy that can be really rewarding to pull off. Not only that, but I also really enjoyed the super duel mode, and it felt like a really cool side mode to play with friends. Also it has my favorite mini game of all time, Coney Island, so big bonus points.
Nah, MP5 ain’t bland at all. It had a ton of great content in addition to the main party mode. Heck, the story mode for MP5 was pretty impressive and deep as well. It has plenty of content to keep it fresh every time. I ain’t even just saying this just because it’s my favorite, all someone needs to do is just play it and see for themselves. 👌
as someone who grew up with mario party 10, i never understood why people hated it so much, but after getting my first taste of mario party superstars, i now know what makes mario party so fun, the tension and strategy you have to have to win is just immaculate. its like discovering a food you thought you hated but i actually loved

The DS one is the objective best. Graphics aside, it has some of the most unique and balanced mini games. Unlike some of the other mario party games, the mic minigames in mario party ds actually work super good.

The only placement I disagree with is 7. It should be right next to 6. It's my personaly favourite since I grew up playing it but I can admit that 6 is objectively better. They're definitely the top 2 of the gamecube era though.

I grew up with the GameCube Mario parties with 6 being the first I played in the series. I love the day and night gimmick it brought a variety of different things to the boards.
Plus Mario party DS was so much fun!
I'm glad you put Mario party ds at number 4, I agree because I had wonderful memories from this game when I was 8 years old, I was playing this at my cousin's place and even at my parent's friends place, it was the first Mario party game I ever played and I will never forget how good the graphics looked, how colorful the menu backgrounds were, how good the minigames were, and even how good the music was, this music was perfect, I mostly loved the mode select music, and when you select your characters from party mode!!
Really amazing list! But I believe 8 deserves to be higher. The non linear boards are very interesting I would say. The fact that the boo board isn’t known I think is such an amazing idea. Also I think 8s unlock-able board where you steal stars instead of buy them is so awesome.

Exactly. To be open about it, I have not played every Mario Party, but of the ones I have played(3,5,6,7,8, Top 100, 9, Star Rush), it is easily and by far the most unique and enjoyable experience imo
I agree, Mario party 8 gave me my permanent hatred of toadette.. she beat me on the king boo board 11 times
agreeddd, 8 was so unique and creative, especially the boards like sure some might be linear but they have really interesting concepts and events (then there's boards that are non-linear AND have cool events and concepts like Koopa's Tycoon Town and the DK one) loads of extra modes that were really fun, huge character selection, i remember 8 having the unique team names too, heck even the menus are super creative. Plus the minigames were really good and had total classics like shake it up. The only thing was the controls weren't very intuitive on some of them.
My favorite boards are the king boo one and koopas tycoon town. I would play against my sister and 2 AIs in boo, and with my sister in Koopa. You always dominate in 2 player with that one. You halve the amount of hotels and give a player half. You only invest in your half (and the secret one if you get it) and it's so haywire once coins are everywhere. We boosted our hotels out of the AIs reach. So good. And we were the same 2 characters. I was birdo and she was Todette.
I’ll always personally have Mario Party 7 at the top of my list, it’s the most nostalgic for me and I use to spend hours playing it with my family

@Pepo Play yup, I don’t care if it’s not mechanically the best or if it was stale formula by the time it came out. I love it because of the memories I have of it, you can have your own favourite Mario Party but 7 will always be mine.

@@ThatOneDude1509 Honestly, I can't believe people are still arguing that 7 specifically is bad because "the formula got stale". Like, it's been over 15 years, and it's aged better than most of the games following it. Even then, does it really matter? At the time, it didn't matter to us. Mario Party doesn't need to change it's formula to be good, or else it's not Mario Party. I really miss those times when we just liked a game because it's enjoyable.

I like this video, I'm really interested in why each game is at each spot though. It seems like each system is kind of grouped together on this list, which makes makes it seem less objective to me.
I think I’m the only person who likes Mario party 9, I have so many fond memories of the mini games and I absolutely love how you have to unlock stuff. Then you add car customization on top of that and it’s my favourite Mario party.

Mario party 8 has great boards. Goomba's booty board walk is all about speed. Trying to find as many ways to get to the end the fastest. Shy guy perplex explex and king boo's level is fun with how it mixes the map up. Bowser space level is a star steal board.

Despite Super Mario Party's flaws, I really enjoy it and feels like this should have been Mario Party 9 from the start
Mario party 1 will always be super nostalgic, but the mini games and gameplay are so good that it really does compete for the top spot. Mario party 2 was awesome because it had a lot of hype to live up to, and it did very well, but I remember being bored with 2 and constantly going back to 1. Mario party 3 kept me busy for a long time as well. 1 and 3 are my faves.

Mario party 10 for the Wii U was very fun for me and my friends, it was the randomness elements that made it fun. You didn’t have to be good to play, especially because I had friends that never played video games. You were right, everyone’s favorite Mario party is the one that grew up with. ❤️👍

@@BetterNicholas I actually like Mario Party 10 more than most people, but that’s really only because I’m just not as big a fan of the old formula as most people. It’s still one of the weaker ones, but I actually enjoyed it, and that’s all I really care about when it comes to Mario Party

9 is criminally underrated. People dukey on it so hard. Out of any game, it has the best side modes, like Boss Rush. (At least out of the ones I’ve played which is 6-Superstars) And it has the second best mini game selection out of those games. Mario Party 9 isn’t one of the best, but if you remove the party mode, it is probably the best of them all with it’s crazy minigame selection, side modes like Boss Rush, and it has one of the better character selections. Y’all dukey on this game so hard it’s not even funny. Same with Mario Party 8, you guys trash that game way too much. This list is biased. MP2 has a charm to it? Explain
I grew up with mp9 and haven’t played any of the GameCube but I have played the n64 and mp8 mp10 and all the ones on 3ds and I love mp9
Mario party 9 & Island Tour are the 2 Mario Party games I grew up with, both of which are criminally underrated, great mini games & music by far imo
I did play both MP9 and MP10. MP10 I was pretty hyped and excited when I first got it. But when I got MP9 I was extremely excited. Sure it wasn’t the best thing but I grew up with the mechanics and even the kart mode was very fun. This is my honest opinion and I’ve even completed a solo mode. I really hope this gets a spotlight for Nintendo Wii Online for Switch. If we even get one of course.

Mario Party 9 is my favorite. I grew up with it and my brothers and I would play it all the time. I also love the minigames and music, and since I grew up with it and it was my first Mario party, I enjoy the car mechanic.
One thing I love about Mario party is the fact that Wario absolutely hates Mario no matter what but whenever he throws a party then he decides to be around him

False. Grew up with Mario Party 6 and 7 and never had an N64 as a kid, but Mario Party 2 is absolutely my favorite. It's the most savage and fun out of all of them.

Well said on 1. The fact that 2v2 and 1v3 always bet coins versus just earning them makes everyone compete harder and gives you more methods to deter a player from getting a star or using Boo to steal one. It's also filled with minigames that reward coins beyond the usual 10 like Cast Aways and Treasure Divers. This way you feel as though you earn coins even if you don't win versus Super/Superstars where it feels like pity
My biggest issue with 1 is the length it takes to complete. You must acquire 100 stars total to unlock the finale, not to mention the insane coin quotas for bonus blocks, maps, and Boo/Koopa toggles on top of the money needed for the minigames in freeplay. Yeah there are ways to cheese like setting the CPU to play for 50 turns, switching to 4 players on Turn 50, and reaping the rewards...but now I'm exploiting to make the game more fun to enjoy with friends

I literally had a freak out when I saw that Mario Party Ds was on the list, and the fact that it was in the top 5 was just fabulous 🥰(my childhood will provale)

The best one for me is MP8, for the idea of a carnival and candies. Regular Mario Party games choose a regular menu or a plaza, then there's Mario Party 8 with a freaking carnival! Isn't that epic?

I'm so happy you mentioned Mario Party DS, it was one of my favorite games to play as a kid, it just had a unique charm for being a DS game. I'm also kinda sad you didn't mention Bowser's Warped Orbit board in MP8, I always thought that board was so aesthetically pleasing

I mean, he said it at the beginning, everyone's favourite is the one they grew up with, while he said Mario party 4 was his first Mario party but we all know Nathaniel is biased towards the N64, and it's safe to assume he played them after Mario party 4, while I played Mario party 1 recently and I admit it, it's hilarious because of how brutal it sometimes is and then when i played super Mario party directly afterwards and me and my friend were so bored we turned it off after a few turns, but I also played other Mario party Games and out of all of them, I'd say Mario party 6 is the best one, but I personally grew up with Mario party 9 and only played 6 like 1 year ago. and in fact, I don't hate Mario party 9. So.. yeah, it's really what Nathaniel said, everyone is biased to the one they grew up with
I grew up with the n64, to the point where I distinctly remember the commercials. Still would never pick an n64 game over gamecube series, besides 5 over 2 and 3. Mario Party 1 is objectively the worst game until like maybe 9 or 10, containing ludicrously unbalanced coin collecting games, some of the most poorly designed 1 vs 3 minigames, rather uninspired stages (outside of eternal star), and of course, the infamous control stick minigames, that both destroy controllers and your hands.

Mp 1 just can’t bro, the one good board imo is yoshi’s and MAYBE Mario’s, the mini games are doodoo butter, but ig bowser is king in this game
