7:43 what a game changer. what people who drive for long periods need is cooling. heated seats are only good for the first minutes of short trips while the rest of the cabin heats up. cooling the driver can be a helpful aid for hours at a time. making contact for long periods of time with car seats can cause uncomfortable levels of perspiration, even in cars with air conditioning and premium materials.
@user-si7fj5rh5u i don't agree you won't necessarily need it but one summer days i get insanely sweaty on the back and legs, even with air con so i would not call it game changer, but i imagine it to be a very nice extra
I bought a b6 estate with 170k on the clock for £1500 5 years ago. Still got it now at nearly 200k and it never lets me down. It sails through every Mot no problem. I wanted a 5 series touring but £1500 couldn’t get me a decent one and I’m glad because the Passat has been the best car I’ve ever owned.
I own a 2017 Alltrack SEL and love it. Practical, good-looking with AWD for going up to Tahoe and taking on rainstorms, it's also pretty good on gas and drives 8/10ths like my Mk7 GTI. After 42k, it has been utterly reliable with the exception of a sunroof leak that took 3 trips to the dealer to finally fix. Lastly, I got it with the 'lighting package' which all cars should have standard, it's that good. The only thing that could improve it is a diesel... but I guess that will never happen again. Sadly, VW has given up on Estates over here in the USofA. Instead we just get more and more SUVs including the awful I.D.4. So sad. I owned a 5th-gen Passat wagon too and loved that car as well. Soooooo much space, there was hardly anything I couldn't put into it and yet it was easy to park! Also, we DON't get the Audi A3 hatchback. You Brits get all the good stuff!
It saddens me that there won't be a sedan, I've had two of them. Of course even the sedan was available, VW pulled the car from the South African market. A Passat Sportline 2.0T has been the most reliable car I've ever owned, and that's even above (other German cars I've had) Merc GL500 and BMW 320i
this vw wasn't designed and made by volkswagen. In this case everything was created by skoda. You can get a skoda superb which this time is not only based on the same platform but both cars were developed in parallel by skoda. Pricewise they are literally the same in Europe. So you can still buy the equivalent car to the passat and also it comes with a better boot as the windows opens with the boot. It is no longer a traditional sedan but a liftback
I'm glad they dropped the sedan. More manufacturer need to do that. The boring looks of a standard non-coupe car with a useless tiny trunk. What's the point?
My 3BG Passat from 2002, 1.9 tdi, 200+ thousand miles keeps running like a champ. First time I’m falling for a new car. That’s a really nice Passat! Great review! 🙏
would love this in the US... the only wagons are an outback with a CVT, a much smaller A4 all road, or a much more expensive A6 Allroad... wish this came stateside. Fills in that gap perfectly...
The worst thing in latest Superb is the terrible touchscreen interface. I still hate it after spending more than 4 years with the car. I can see that all touchscreen galore is lifted to the new level in the new Passat.
I agree. Having read the latest review on it, seeing real knobs again was worth the price alone (and it's a bargain price too!). Thankfully Euro NCAP is making them a measureable item from next year, meaning manufacturers will have to start putting proper controls back on the dash again. How they managed to get away with putting so much behind a distracting touchscreen, I have no idea!
Easy on the ears, very smooth presenting and with little to no drama (unlike Mat Watson throwing parcel shelves and sticking sticks in the exhaust pipes :D).
Luckily Skoda are making the Superb saloon and, to me, that has a much nicer interior. Plus proper dials for controlling temperature and includes the new adaptive suspension and sound proofing. It is a shame they didn’t do the PHEV with the Superb saloon though. Look forward to you doing a review of that one.
I've got an excellent very comfy '09 tdi 170 bhp estate with leather and a/c which I use as my daily load carrier; it's got 130k miles on it and apart from a slight squeak from somewhere deep inside the dashboard, it looks and drives like a champ. Cheap enough for me to ALSO own and enjoy a much more up to date machine for fun days. If you look after a Passat well, it'll look after you.
So would I. The Skoda Superb has a nicer interior, and still has proper buttons and knobs for the aircon...Much of the new tech on this Passat went into the new Superb a few weeks back.....

I had to move from an X1 to a Passat Estate and it was far from the ordeal I’d feared! I love my 23 plate Passat and by the looks of things I’ll be tempted by another when it comes time to change again. This trim and those alloys tho. Erm. Naw. It really looks like the MG from the side! The R-Line looks much much better.
Interesting to see that the new Skoda Superb has kept buttons for functions like temperature control etc. Infotainment systems are a nightmare when you should really be concentrating on the road ahead - not trying to navigate your way through a touchscreen.
It's a handsome car. Pity about the infotainment screen and the lack of physical controls for air cond. Didn't catch the price, but I assume rather expensive.
I don't like the idea that comfort will get you to your destination "fresher". A car that is ingaging and fun will get your heart pumping and keep you awake and aware. My old 5 speed e46 330i was the best example of this. I could drive that car on the Autobahn for 7 to 8 hours without any problem. On the other hand my gf's Golf Plus had me falling asleep after just an hour.
@@jacobvanderhooft2188 that's why they extended the Passat to the length of A6 to 4.92m right? Size matters. Quiet cabin matters, interior space matters, boot matters, quality materials matter. Lower seating position from this estate car get my attention which inheritability lowers the centre of gravity compared to SUVs in general. This make me a lot happier behind the wheel.
I was wondering that too when we were shown the boot space initially, the level of the loading bay 'floor' was way too high compared to my current B7 estate. It looked like an electric/hybrid but that wasn't revealed till later in the review.
I've already driven a rather old Passat. I think it was the B7 model and it had a pretty cheap spec. However even after the 200,000 kilometres it had to endure, it drove so insanely well. It didn't have massage seats back then and also no voice assistant. But just as you said, there is so much space and I can confirm you get less tired than in cars in the same price class. The seats and the passive suspension made it so comfortable over bumps and in fast corners. I believe that this car can do all those listed things better. But I'm not sure if I'd choose it over the old one. First of all I'm not fully convinced of the new design. The front bumper looks a bit weird. Like someone put a concept car bumper on an old car. The door to rear boot is awful. It seems like someone crashed into your car and thereby moved the door in. The next thing is that I'm a fan of manual gearbox and the strong older passat 2.0 Diesel engines, capable of 240+hp and close to 500nm of torque (although these two options can't be combined). Overall I'm still a big fan of the Passat series and VW has done what people and regulations demand nowadays and I would definitely consider this car when buying a new one.
I have a B8 Passat 2.0 TDi with 170K on the clock, brilliant car, can't imagine the B9 will be that much better? and the sloped rear glass is taking away from what makes the Passat estate great.. room for my Doggies
Hold up, you can't complain about the piano black when talking about premium. The Audi A6 is full of it! Looks like the first Passat I actually like though. Interior is great
Well let's hope it's reliable. My Golf 8 GTE was nothing but trouble. In the 25+ years I've been in the Motor Trade it was hands down the worst car I've ever had. The technology was always going wrong. Ended up with a new steering wheel, new infotainment screen, replacement cameras for the lane keep assist. Oh and the central locking didn't work properly and VW didn't have a fix for it. Was glad to see the back of it.
I've driven the current model quite a bit. It's pretty much all the car you need if a bit long for parallel parking in town. The seats are also very good though the sweaty arse relief could come in handy on a long run.
I'll be honest, I'm not a big VW fan, but I really do like this! Love a wagon over an SUV! it looks good, it's got great space great tech and features too. I would actually buy this over the BMW Audi and Mercedes equivalent, Well done VW 👍
Nice car, should not exist. The price point is ridiculous for the hp it gives, the comfort features mean nothing for the used price of a car meaning you are spending a lot of money for a car that is likely to greatly depreciate.
Wide angle gaping mouth/intake seems like they referencing Toyota Camry. Good with the return of physical buttons and a software with better computing power.
That front end is too Toyota like to me. What I do not understand is why make proper buttons on the steering wheel but when with the horrible capacitive touch intotainment?
Nice lines on that car. Beautiful looking wagon style. have to research reliability before purchase. The higher the tech, the more can go wrong, not to mention expense. I'm always weary of new models that are typically rushed to market before the bugs are worked out.

VW designs continue to get better and better. This is a home run.
Come on VW, get on with it and make the Passat Estate available in North America.......
that grille definitely reminds me of 00s Peugeots
Can you dim the infortainment screen at night or switch it off
You can in the Golf so I presume so.
just put electrical tape over it. like a vcr clock
I have a B8 Passat 2.0 TDi with 170K on the clock, brilliant car, can't imagine the B9 will be that much better? and the sloped rear glass is taking away from what makes the Passat estate great.. room for my Doggies
They finally added the pre-on check engine light from the factory, nice
Another excellent review. Nice one
The best car presenter on TH-cam and Matt
Did he tell us the price?
I'll be honest, I'm not a big VW fan, but I really do like this! Love a wagon over an SUV! it looks good, it's got great space great tech and features too.
I would actually buy this over the BMW Audi and Mercedes equivalent, Well done VW 👍
I absolutely love European wagons. Wished there were more options in the States. So sick of SUV’s. Sharp looking car.
Nice car, should not exist. The price point is ridiculous for the hp it gives, the comfort features mean nothing for the used price of a car meaning you are spending a lot of money for a car that is likely to greatly depreciate.
It's very nice. I have a 2003 VW PASSAT W8 which is very kool!!!!! I think I would like to take that Passat for a test drive.
Better looks? Are you sure
that thing is hideous like a cheap chinese car
Sehr gute Qualität. Ist alles mit dem iPhone aufgenommen?
That front grille is so large, it'd make a Peugeot 407 blush.
I've owned two Passats and it saddens me that we no longer have these in the States.😢
3:37 😂😂😂😂ay man you owe me good 🌱 it's all over the carpet now.. was about to enjoy this show on cloud 9
So it's basically the new Skoda Superb with chatGPT?
I like the front
they've kept the design simple 👍
Nice lines on that car. Beautiful looking wagon style. have to research reliability before purchase. The higher the tech, the more can go wrong, not to mention expense. I'm always weary of new models that are typically rushed to market before the bugs are worked out.
