They nailed the back seak space issue. Not everyone needs boot space. So boot space should be interchangeable with back seat legroom with just a little adjustment depending on what you want. Many makers fail to recognise as the world moves towards sharing...

glad to see theyve got rid of the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel. will be interesting to see what comes standard on release, this one is specced to a high level, previous R line only had a few of these features.
it looks a bit shorter than the mk2/2.5
be interesting to see what style comes out body wise for the non hybrid versions, the front end on this one with the blanked out vents etc is very 'electric vehicle style' wonder if itll keep for the 2litre diesel for example

Having owned a plug in hybrid (BMW X5 45e) what these plug-in hybrids really need is a feature where you can set the speed at which the motor switches between EV mode and the engine. Say, you set it for 35mph so that as soon as you go over that speed the engine starts thus keeping the battery for the low speed town stuff where it’s needed rather than using it all up driving along a B road in the middle of nowhere.
Why the need to claim you ran an expensive car, rather than just say you ran a PHEV?...and who cares if you come off sounding a 7055£r?

In regards to the car: I'm sorry, but I always thought the Tiguan was a really uninteresting car. Unfortnulatly this is no different. However, glad to see VW has improved their infotainment and UI.

I absolutely loved the intro. The decorative glass and black gloss elements surely wont do you any favors when you go off roading .. oh its one of those soccer mom suv thingies.
Currently owned 2018 VW Tiguan SE since brand new. Our eyes are on 2025 model for replacement.
It's a bit over designed. It sort of reminds me of a Cupra. I'll probably wait for the next ID4 but its nice to see they have listened to customers and fixed a lot of the issues from the ID models.

I would never compare the older version to the new one. Rather, I'd say I found the old version attractive (esp. Tiguan R ) and I've come to appreciate the super-form creases of the new version as well. It is much rounder with more muscular haunches, yet it still retains some vestige of its previous iteration in the sharp corners at the rear bumper.
I also find it more desirable in that it addresses many (if not all) of the complaints and limitation of the outgoing model. The backlit and dedicated HVAC controls, better materials and significantly improved ergonomics. The new seats are a godsend as there can never be too much adjustability.
Best part of all, for that that still prefer the previous style, its still available brand new and at significantly discounted prices now that the updated model has arrived.
One more thing, when you're 'walking the car' does it back into a space? And if it does, do the reverse lights come on?

I'm sure the car is easy to drive, spacious, and comfortable. Just sad to see VW is still being a little non-sensical on the interior buttons/controls....

Good review as always unfortunately not many people will be able to afford it as a plug-in will probably be £45k+
My experience with my 2018 Tiguan in Canada is that the parts are about 2+ times more expensive than comparing to a Tacoma. When it breaks down, it is very expensive.
great vid, still don't think that any pseudo 4x4/ crossover will ever be better that a saloon or estate car, you cannot beat physics. That tech is my idea of hell, will beep at you for eveything no doubt.

The atomosphere setting on the volume knob was a step too far and should just be a menu setting imho.
If it had just been a volume knob that you could tap to select driving modes, I think it would have left a completely different impression.
Me too...can't see why you waste this knob for only seldom used features...would be ideal, if you can configure this button yourself and add a feature what ever you like.
The older, squareish version definitely looks better.
