    The integration of front sensors in the middle of the kidney grills is a symbol, of how bad BMW has gotten over the years. I really can not understand, how the whole team working on this desing agreed, that this is a great idea! Just look at Mercedes for example - Most of the sensors are integrated underneath their logos and beautifuly hidden. But BMW? Just slaps a large black squere in the middle of their most important design element (kidney grills) and leaves it there. Like what?!?!?!? Really??

      And the inner space, the one that people actually use, is the same too. Why would anyone need 20" tyres in an EV, or any other normal car. But no,... this should have sport, sport, sport everything, including sport space (cramped for the outer dimensions), sport price (expensive) and sport consumption (lower than expected)

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @teovm
      @teovm 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chrishart8548In older days big wheels were there for a reason - performance - big brakes and sporty tyres. Now they put big wheels on everything. But that eats space and costs. Looks are important but space is too. Most of those new models do not have larger space inside, just on the outside. And for what - mostly bigger wheels and some new useless tech like enormous screens. Look at an old Mercedes E-classe Comby (1993-2009) and compare it with todays model. Economy suffers from that, but on the other hand the are all for consumption and eco stuff. How?
      I'm just saying that there needs to be a compromise and for now there isn't one, only looks.

    Yeah, I love Wagons, they are the solution to SUVs.
    But as long as it's an overpriced car (like most new cars are), I can't be excited for this, £100k? As good as this is, that's insane, I would just get a previous gen M5

    • @alxdava2004
      @alxdava2004 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wrong. The best solution for suv is a monovolume. Tall enough, but too tall, more space inside than any weagon and suv.

    • @christhompson4630
      @christhompson4630 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If current trends keep up (especially for EVs), they'll depreciate pretty quickly and become relatively affordable in a couple of years or so as "second hand" (that is, the dealership employees using it sparingly for a couple of years). Just look at the (RS) e-tron GT now compared to its release.
      EVs are also more technology than they are car and what happens to technology when it becomes outdated?

    • @WillBecker
      @WillBecker 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@christhompson4630 Petrol cars are technology just the same, it's just that EV tech is newer and advancing much faster as a result, costing less to buy new as a result. The new price depreciation and improvements in functionality that are driving EV depreciation will decline to the same level as internal combustion in time, it's a short-term thing

    • @WillBecker
      @WillBecker 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But people don't buy them anymore because they have less space per cost than taller cars. You could fit a cavernous 7 seater on that i5 platform for not much more money if it was in a taller "SUV" bodyshape.

    £100k for a family car that in theory should be able to drive a family and all their gear to the south of France in a single day now takes two days as it can only do 200 miles on a charge, which in reality means a charging stop every 150 miles.

    The remote reverse feature is more than a gimmick. Most parking spaces are too narrow to comfortably get in & out. This at least would let you reverse out and then get in in more comfort. Many thanks for another excellent video.

    I know you don’t like any car that’s not made by a “premium brand” Rory, but there are already estate EVs in the MG5, 308 and Astra.
    What we need is an EV estate that can do 300-350 miles that doesn’t cost as much as a small house in the north of England… for now I’ll stick with my 2024 Kona Electric, and if someone is happy to pay a bit more the Tesla Model Y has a far bigger boot than this

    It's amazing how much people hate a lot of newer cars. The only hate I can afford is on any given price. We also only get a fraction of cool estates, wagons, etc. in the US, so it's cool to see that other countries get a plethora of them. I really wished they were more popular here, so we had more variety than just crossovers and SUVs.

    Problem is ..I’m a Beamer fan but… BMW just depreciate faster than a melting ice cream. Just look up the listing price of any EUR 180.000-225000 car and then compare it to an one year old 7.000 km car. It will probably depreciated by 60-75K in one year.

    It sounds like a milk float. That said, the parking trick is useful if people have parked so close to you that you can't get even open the door. Someone did that to me once in a hotel car park. One cold and frosty morning I found my car (E39) boxed in on both sides. It was a real struggle to get in, but once I got in and I could drive away, I left the twerp a nice little doodle in the dirt on their side window.

    One guy I know used to say that there are two happy days in the life of a person. One is the day you buy a BMW and the other is the day you sell that BMW. Also, I love it when people say "Oh, FSD is not ready, yet" and then when they hope into a BMW and use cruise control they say "It lets the car drive itself without any interaction from me whatsoever". That's hilarious!

    Nice to see an estate BEV at last. No need to go to Audi for the fire breathing petrol variant as the M5 is on its way. Want something cheaper? 3 series touring is great and will probably become available in BEV form at some point in the near future (I3 Touring?). It is still a while until the mandated ICE cull so don’t wish them away too soon - and who says BEV is here to stay anyway?

    Just took my 2017 530d in on a recall for the driver airbag and used the time to thoroughly look at all the cars in the showroom and they had an i5 touring in there. Sat in the drivers seat, lovely car as is my 530d but obviously this has the electronic stuff. I needed to put my glasses on to see everything (don’t need them in my 530d) but I would be ok with that. Anyway, I set the seat up for me (I’m 6’ or 183cm) then I sat the back. Total show stopper! Because of the raised floor to accommodate the batteries my knees were just about in my mouth - it was just awful! Could never buy one of these and for now i will be sticking with my beautiful and solidly made 530d.
