For all their focus on safety tech (which is laudable) the fact that they continue to go down the shitty Tesla route of a giant touchscreen for all controls is utterly and completely against the very fundamentals of safe driving i.e. having physical buttons and knobs for the most important and frequently used features. HVAC and audio should always be buttons and knobs - and if marques such as Volvo or BMW want to differentiate themselves from the lower tier marques they can use high-grade materials such as aluminum instead of plastic for the controls.

I could stretch myself and buy a brand new car, instead I bought a 20 year old Freelander 1 for under £2k, it runs perfectly, does what I need and economically friendly as saved it from being scrapped. In my mind that is more sustainable than spending £100k on an electric vehicle where battery won’t last much longer than 8 years.
Also because I bought a cheap car I can afford nicer holidays etc… instead of being in ridiculous debt.

I did research a few years ago on carbon emission reporting in the car industry and you’d be surprised how far you’ve got to drive an electric car before it has paid off it’s carbon debt. Granted Tesla’s we’re still the best out of EV’s when it came to paying off the carbon debt back then. But it’s funny to think that buying an old diesel is technically better than buying a new EV
Edit: Funnily enough I remember reading an article some time ago about the older model Land Rover defenders being the least carbon costing car in England, because every part of the car was made in Britain. @@peterharte88 the CO2 'breakeven' point for an EV vs the equivalent combustion-engined car is well known and dependent on the source of power generation in the country the vehicle is being used in.
For example, in somewhere like Russia, with it's heavy dependence on coal-fired power generation, it would be around 77,000 miles.
However, in a more 'environmentally forward-thinking' country like Norway, with its 98% clean hydro power generation, it's a mere 8,000 miles for parity.
Fortunately, there's a rapid decline in coal-fired power stations - for example, in the UK, the last coal-fired power station, at Ratcliffe-on-Soar, is due to close in 3 weeks' time.
