Connect a 2nd Monitor to Laptop on Windows 10/11

Step by step guide on how to connect your monitor to a laptop. I talk about adapters, cables, and what setting to use for the best experience.
I recommend getting a 4k 60Hz USB C adapter. The one I'm using in the video is a cheap one and can only do 4k 30Hz.

I set up my hdmi cable and its mirroring both screens but when i go into settings it still only detects one monitor. how do i fix this? i only have one hdmi port on my tower so i bought an hdmi splitter and plugged both hdmi cables into it then one each into both the monitors but its only mirroring the other monitor. do i have to use a different cable instead of using two hdmi cables?

Yeah of course, the laptop's battery will drain faster and having another screen puts a load on the CPU maybe slowing it down

@@jmb1819 it can stop different softwares from lagging but according to me the display performance depends more on the quality of processor and I don't think you can change ram in most laptops

Tried to connect a monitor to my laptop which showed 1|2 in the display, but could not seem to mirror or extend the display at all. It clearly detected the monitor because I could see it in Advanced Display Settings. It was as if the monitor refused to get a signal from the laptop. The monitor works perfectly fine with a desktop.

I think i've just bought the wrong kind of lead. I bought a new laptop recently, a ASUS Vivobook flip 14 and i'm trying to run a second display on a Samsung monitor; like basically so i can do multiple tasks at once (like you described). But this particular laptop only has micro/mini HDMI ports and usb ports. So i bought a HDMI - HDMI micro lead/cable and connect laptop to monitor thinking that would do the job; but my laptop is not detecting it, so i guess i need to buy that other kind of lead.
