You could use Synergy and use mouse and keyboard on both computers at the same time seamlessly, I believe it even allows for copy-paste and file moving between devices
I came down here to mention this too. Couple of questions please ? 1. what TV are you using? isn't it very reflective and straining on the eye ? 2. Did you calibrate your TV for color accurate work ? Most TV's are not able to display the full sRGB spectrum. how much color gamut does it cover?
You can buy a 98% sRGB 4K TV, its enough for most of us. The only problem with the tv is the pixel ratio, its not easy to buy a 4:4:4 tv, and it cost much more.
Nice setup, I'm looking to make something similar. A little tip: you can use something like VNC viewer to connect to your laptop all wireless. This also allows you to easily copy over text from your desktop to laptop and vice versa.
Can you use your laptop as a separate screen that is different than what is showing on the monitor? Or will the laptop screen only show a duplicate of your monitor?
@@KingRockets yes you can, you can either extend (show different), duplicate (show the same) or show only on monitor 1 (turns off laptop display and only uses the external monitor)
When I had two laptops on the same desk I used to have them both closed-up in the far corners of my desk for neatness. I used my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse to switch between the two. The novelty was the dual monitors. Because there were 2 display leads from each laptop into discreet sockets on each monitor, I could click the monitor buttons and choose one screen per laptop, or both screens for either. So I could "monitor" one laptop, whilst typing into the other. I did have to colour code my windows-desktops so as not to get mixed up :)
Thank you so much for the suggestion of using the KVM, but using the different ports on the monitor with a direct input each from the laptop and desktop. I was looking at much more expensive KVMs that would carry the visual signal. The cheaper KVMs would have caused a visual downgrade.

Hey David, amazing content as usual! Quick question - does the weight of your huge screen exert so much pressure on that particular point of the table top & cause it to warp over time? I know there's a metal brace somewhere underneath, but I'm sure it's somewhere further away from that point you mounted the monitor arm. Great setup. I'm trying to solve the same problem, and I had not considered using a multi-input TV with a remote to switch. I need to see of proper computer monitors can use a remote. Synergy is a great product, but I don't see how it makes sense on one monitor. Synergy allows you to mouse across multiple monitors that are attached to different computers. He is using one monitor. Synergy sends mouse clicks and keyboard taps to the computer that has the monitor with the cursor. One monitor? I suspect both computers would see the same keyboard and mouse at the same time. There is another use case where it falls apart. When I bring home my work laptop, I can't be on a VPN to work and my local network at the same time. Synergy must be able to reach both networks.
Monitor designed to be used at close range, TV designed to be used far away at your couch, ===> you can still use TV at close range, and slowly destroy your eyeballs
@@alexandralefish4236 tv monitors and pc monitors are not designed for either close or far range , the only reason that they say that is because the pixel density for images is not a factor when far range on tvs but it is not because they are designed for distance but only to explain why resolution is ok in ceratin distances and all monitors are the exact same to your eyes they all need calibration with a color and image calibrator, no matter what screen weather it is small or big you destroy your eyes if not calibrated.
I tried my LG6300 and the edges are curved and distorted and the bottom half of the task bar is missing. Couldn't fix it playing with settings. I opted instead to go with 2 Dell 2717H monitors at a good price. I think it may be related to how the XPS 13 deals with external video. and 16:9 aspect ratio is not the same as the internal screen, maybe? It works fine with my insignia 32" in game mode though. so Part of it is an LG issue. Not worth my time to fiddle with it. I know the LG is not in 1080 mode and thinks the signal is a 4K signal it is receiving which may have something to do with the XPS 13 seeing a 4K monitor (The machine is not a 4k machine its the XPS 13 i5 with 1080 sacreen).

If he is working on his Desktop PC, he doesn't need to plug the Laptop in.
Oooh ugreen controller bought it a couple days ago works like a charm
TV should never be used as a monitor
Why?
Maybe input lag?
Depend on what you use it for.
Nice option 👍
Thanks for video, nice done! May I know which arm are you using to hold your 43'' TV?
I thought that using tv like that is so bad for the eyes, unlike monitor they are meant to be used from a distance
Nguyễn Đình Quang Minh no that's just a myth made by parents for their kids
Viewsonic makes an ips 43 in monitor with great pixel density. It looks perfect and readable from one inch away.
@@PWingert1966 disable overscan in tv settings, probably under aspect ratio, you can set to fit to screen
Desktop for home. Phone for the field. That’s all I need.

Now that's what I call a Tech video. Nice work
Also When we gonna get a review on dat chair ;)
Got my Chair based on ur Recs
It’s not really a professional ergonomic chair tho. If you work 8 hours a day behind a desk then you should invest in something proper with adjustable-everything.

That wallpaper is cleannnn
What is that chair you're using in the video?
Yeah what is it?
IKEA new office chair HATTEFJÄLL
Thank you! But damn that's expensive..
Looks very clean, just what i'm looking for. Does anyone know by chance a gaming chair with that same colour??
Not compared to a gaming chair
Please share detailed setup video. How and what all used to make this setup and how you switch between laptop and desktop.
Is that a new chair you are using?
Looks like the IKEA HATTEFJÄLL
Instead of buying a USB switch and pressning a button each time you want to switch between the laptop and the pc. You can instead use a program called Multiplicity where you can switch between the laptop and pc flaewlessly with a hotkey or swiping the mouse to the chosen side as if u were using a dual monitor setup. Multiplicity also transfers audio between the computers. It really is amazing
It’s all really nice, but the cable management is trash bro
