You have absolutely removed 1 month of frustration from my life! THANK YOU! I have been trying to get my two monitors to work with my work laptop for a month. I finally found your video here and was able to get them both working! I am forever grateful to you!
By far the most helpful video I’ve found for connecting multiple monitors to a laptop. It had everything I needed to get my setup right, configurations for both my newer laptop and an older all-in-one PC.
I'm a nerd that went to Mac and you covered going to multiple, more than 3 monitors. I now know that I'll be using my Acer for my needs. I got this idea for a mini visual light show using mini monitors. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video. I have an older laptop manufactured in 2014 and the USB C post that it has does not support the new alternate mode thunder technology that the USB C on my docking station comes with. I did not know that USB to HDMI connectors existed until I came across your video. I am definitely getting one of those 🙂 Thank you, thank you, thank you ❤
Simply put...you explained this very well. I just got a duel monitor system plus my laptop so all I need is three screens. I'll come back for information as needed. Thank you!
There is also an HDMI port on the laptop that you could connect one of the monitors to in place of one of those usb dongles. My laptop has hdmi and a vga out, although I'm not sure if I could use both at same time.
Yes, most laptops will have some kind of video port built-in, so if you only need one additional monitor, that would be sufficient, without the need for a hub like this one.
Sir hats off to you, it was really helpful 👍 subscribed and like. Keep creating such great helpful contents so the people who are not techy like me find the same task in an easy way.
I've got a little challenge for you :). The video is great, but it does not cover one special case: Many people have 2 Laptops - one private and one for work. Is there a device we could add somewhere in between, which allows you to connect both Laptops and then on a button press change the USB and Video input? I think that there should docking stations capable of doing so. For example, I currently use a USB Device, that lets me change all USBs (mouse, keyboard, headphones - which are connected to it) on button press and jump between private laptop and work Laptop, which is currently using them. But it only works if you want to quickly change USBs. Here the solution must be more advanced, we would also need to change HDMIs, so all the Monitors on button press. Have you seen anything like this during your research?
Great training, thanks. Is there an easy way to share three screens, and a wireless mouse and keyboard between a home desktop, and a work laptop. I would love to understand his to achieve that.
Logitech has a number of mice and keyboards that let you connect them to up to 3 computers with the touch of a button. For example, this mouse: amzn.to/3AoRIgr and this keyboard: amzn.to/3AoRYfp However, that does not share screens with multiple computers. To do that easily, you need a KVM switch. KVM stands for Keyboard, Video and Mouse. You can see those devices by using this link: amzn.to/3YtWD7V Hope that helps!
Here's the link to the docking station: amzn.to/3Ims10r (affiliate link). Links to a number of helpful products, including this one, are in the description as well.
Great video. I am running 2monitors of the laptop with an Amazon USB dual adapter. At first it would overheat and shut down. I moved thing around for more ventilation and has been working fine for a couple years. One question, Can you use two usb hubs in series? I want to go off one hub almost full to another side of the desk where I want to do one monitor and two additional usb to serial addapters.
Theoretically, it should work, but you will have to experiment. Power could be an issue if you are using a bus-powered hub (gets power through the USB cable instead of a separate power adapter). You could just use a single hub and get some long monitor cables or long USB cables (or both).
Thanks for the vid. Is there any way, or an app, to assign specific programs to a specific monitor such that it always opens there and stays on the chosen monitor? Thanks
Link is amzn.to/3Ims10r When I go to that link, the product is available. That's for the US version of Amazon. If you are elsewhere in the world, it may not be available. The product brand is Lionwei. You can try searching for "Lionwei 13 port docking station" and see if that works.
I find it interesting the video does not cover (and no comment I can find) regarding daisy-chaining the Display Port monitors which is a feature of the DP standard. Would be nice to see an additional video on that.
Thank you for the very thorough video. Could you confirm for me, before I spend money, that this solution would work with a built in display adapter as opposed to an expensive graphics card. My Dell workstation only has an Intel UHD Graphics 630 display adapter. Documentation says it can only support 3 monitors. I have 2 DisplayPorts and 2 USB 3 ports available but would like to use 4 monitors. Will the display adapter even be able to output video through the USB 3 port?
To output video through the USB ports, you will need something like the USB to HDMI adapter I demonstrate in the video. amzn.to/4c1hsNI So, with two DisplayPort ports on the computer, plus the two USB ports, you can probably output to four monitors.
i have a laptop that i want to connect to an LG monitor with a displayport and an LED TV with hdmi. my laptop has both usb-c 3.2 and hdmi. will usb-c port and hdmi port work at the same time when i try to extend my display to both monitor and tv?
Hi, I'm a little confused on how you connected 5 monitors for 2 USB to HDMI adapters. I'm able to connect 2, but not 5. Can you please walk us through, or make another video of this?
Hello, what about the built in display ports like hdmi and mini display ports that come with the laptop? You can hook up additional monitors using those to get another 2 monitors hooked up, for a total of 7 monitors, granted the display port might need an adapter depending on the monitor being connected has the appropriate cables for mini display or not..
I don't think that will help, at least in my case. The version of DisplayPort that my laptop supports is not fully compatible with this docking station. To get the max resolution when using this docking station, your laptop must support DisplayPort 1.4 via the USB C port. My laptop, being older (2019), did not support this version, so I believe that is the reason it would not work at the higher resolutions.
@@NerdSidekick thanks for getting back to me, imma try it out on my laptop thanks again I love this video informative and I learn heaps. Please keep those tips and tricks coming thanks again
Question for you…I currently use a docking station that only allows me up to 2 additional monitors. So I’m currently extending my laptop screen to these two monitors. If I have an HDMI port on my laptop, I can potentially add a third monitor? And then my laptop screen will extend to all three monitors?
Most likely it will work. The USB C port has to support DisplayPort (not all USB C ports do). Thunderbolt ports should support DisplayPort, and there are inexpensive converters that work with those if this docking station does not, for some reason.
Is this possible to do this on non gaming laptops? I have a work computer currently using 3 monitors via a dock but looking up specs on the Intel igpu on board it states it only allows for 3 external monitors. Is there any workaround for this would love to use 5 or even 6 monitors for ultimate workflow.
Yes, the docking station will work on any computer, as long as it has a USB-C port. But that port must support DisplayPort video for the dock to let you add monitors. Most desktop computers will have at least two video ports built-in, so if you only need two monitors, this docking station may not be necessary.
Thank you for your video. I’m trying to connect 2 monitors to a laptop. One is connected directly from HDMI port to HDMI on the monitor. The other one I bought an adapter USB C connector that has 2 HDMI ports. This one is not working with the 2nd monitor. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. It’s not detecting the monitor.
It could be that the USB C port you are plugged into does not support DisplayPort video, which is probably required for the USB C hub or docking station to display video on a monitor. Check the specs for the USB C port on your computer to determine if it provides DisplayPort.
I have 6 identical VGA monitors, and a computer with USB 3.0. With a powered USB 3.0 hub, can I use 6 USB to VGA adapters plugged into the powered USB 3.0 hub and successfully have 6 monitors running?
I have been searching the internet for info about my issue. I have a Lenovo Legion Y720 which suddenly could not handle en external graphics anymore. It has an HDMI, Firewire, and USB-C ports all of which used to be able to handle external monitors. Suddenly the external monitor display a white screen with some flickering colors at the top. I assume the display is just some memory location in the hardware but even replacing the RAM made no difference. What other hardware would handle the external graphics?
This is going to sound like a silly question, but I’m trying to run five monitors off of a desktop assuming this docking station would work for that too
Hello, I have an Aorus 2080 graphics card. It has 6 outputs. I want to connect 5 displays, but it only supports 4 displays. What can I do? Can you help me?
Hi, Mr. Kelley, I came across your video pertaining to docking station and I have tried several of brand of docking stations and I still cannot get these docking stations to work seamlessly. To get images on the monitors, I have to switch on the lap top first and then insert the docking station's USB-C to it to get the monitors working; and this is when I am starting fresh. However, if I start am to switch on the laptop with the docking 's USB-C pre-inserted/attached, the monitors doesn't activate and I have to unplug and re-insert the USB-C inorder to get them working. Have you came across such phenomenon? What could be the issue and is there a solution to it? Thanking you in advance and hope you can help in this iinstant. William
Question.... My laptop does not have a C port. Is it possible to buy a C to USB or HDMI converter to connect a docking station? I'm in need of adding 3 additional monitors.
If you don't have a C port, you can still use the USB to HDMI converters I demonstrate in the video. But trying to convert from USB A to USB C to then plugin a docking station will most likely not work.
That depends on what your definition of a "splitter" is. Normally, a splitter is a device that duplicates the same output to two or more monitors. So, a single signal comes into the splitter and two or more copies of that signal are output to multiple monitors. This does NOT output a different signal to each monitor.
Bluetooth would be far too slow for any significant file transfers. What you probably want is to use Wifi to connect to some type of network attached storage (NAS). Some Wifi routers allow you to connect a drive with a USB connection right on the router.
My monitor and computer both has display port, but I have several HDMI cables, i was wondering. If I can use HDMI cable on DP port? They have exactly the same pins.
You will need an adapter to use an HDMI cable. But if you only have DisplayPort ports on both your computer and your monitor, then you would need two adapters for each cable. It would make more sense to just buy some DisplayPort cables.
I'm using a cable matter box to connect two monitors via DP. i want to add a 3rd monitor And it has a DisplayPort and HDMI port, but the cable matter box does not support another port. my laptop has an hdmi port but when i connect the 3rd monitor one of the other 2 connected monitors goes dark. why? Hi , so my laptop has a normal c type port. It's not a lightning c type port. So does the docking station support and work for extending screen to 2 monitors ??
Your type C port needs to support DisplayPort. You can look at the port to see if it shows a DisplayPort logo next to it (letter D with a P inside it). Not all ports will have the logo even if they do support DisplayPort. Or check the manual that came with the computer or find it online. Or ask the manufacturer if the port supports DisplayPort.
