Honestly this could be great news for RC-500 & -600 owners in that it may force Boss to make big ease-of-use upgrades to the editor.

Screens are super useful when we get more complicated and add so many extra tracks, and effects, and User interopability. It is really nice to see whats going on by a quick view of the screen, especially useful when you have multi loop going on and 4 seperate tracks , or in the RC 600 maybe six tracks.

I have the Headrush looper board which this one replaces. What i was missing in the looperboard is now available in the SheeranX. My LB needs a repair and while I’m waiting I’m using an RC-600. Different workflows and learning curves and that’s the only difference. I suggest trying both and choosing the one that fits how you play. I honestly like both! I think the price is the only thing that’s stopping me from buying the SheeranX but it’s on my Santa list!

I'm sticking with the RC-600. I like the design of the Sheeran, with its chunky pedals and large screen, but there's so much more flexibility with the RC-600 thanks to the extra tracks and the flexible button assignment. Programming the RC-600 is a bit tedious without the RC Editor, so Boss could certainly make improvements there. At a third of the price, choosing the RC-600 is a no-brainer.

  • @oliverkeysmusic

I must admit I'm tempted - I only ever use 4 of the 6 tracks on the RC600 anyway, but the size and price are going to hold me back for the moment. Plus like you, I'm very much used to the workflow of the RC600, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Thanks Ross. As always objective, informative and pleasant on the ear. As a new owner of the Rc600, my first impression and to some extent reticence to buy it, was the fact that it appeared to refuse to accept the last twenty years of development in user interfaces. I made the right decision in acquiring it. I made more music on a fit for purpose Atari st in the 80s than I ever will on a Mac Pro with a million plugins.Ed’s name no doubt adds a couple of bucks to a very solid piece of kit, but I doubt the tank like Wembley proof construction justifies the additional cost for simplicity. I’ll stick with working out the curiosities of the Roland imagination

These 2 should be compared with the Aeros Loop Studio. All 3 seem to have pros & cons.
The RC600 seems like it has a lot going for it at a lower price than Sheeran X. However, the Sheeran X certainly seems easier to use with a more intuitive UI.

I still use the rc 300.. as a solo acoustic player I usually only need one track to have a beat along with me playing, occasionally will do more complex loops, but I find that as cool as I think that is, it just bores patrons in the bars.. the Sheeran looper I’m sure is amazing and has all these crazy features, but the reality is I don’t need that.. in fact I’m pretty sure Ed was using and rc 30 for years at first 🤣

I started with the RC 505, I was happy with everything, I used it with a midi foot controller. Then I bought an RC 600. What’s new is nice. But!!! It sounds worse, the sound is more difficult to adjust, it constantly malfunctions, then the track will disappear, then the midi will fly off... In general, I put it up for sale, and I myself use the old 505. I would like to touch the device from Sheeran with my hands, I think it is more stable (since it was a musician who had a hand in it, not a manager from the sales department)

I fear the take away from this product launch will be that touch screens are essential for progress. One of my favorite aspects of the looping workflow is the tactile nature of playing an instrument, triggering loops, and creating an arrangement in realtime. These ideas aren't mutually exclusive but I'm happy to have an activity that is less focused on staring at a screen.
That said, it's nice to see that the Looper X has standard sample rates available. This always seemed like a goofy oversight for both Boss and EHX (only offering 44.1k).
Thanks for the overview! Your videos have been helpful for me on my journey with the RC600!

But is there ANY notable difference between the previous Headrush Looperboard and the ‘new’ Sheeran Looper X? After watching this video, all features look exactly the same, which makes people wonder if Sheeran was actually involved in designing it. 😀 To me it looks like the only improvement is the switches. Switches on my Headrush Looperboard got glitchy after a couple of months of using it, and warranty repair couldn’t help me much with it. It looks like Headrush has improved the switches now.

the reason i left the rc600 was that tiny screen, went to the headrush looper board, missed the extra 2 tracks, but looperboard is great. The looper x is the headrush LOOPERBOARD (SAME MAKER ) with new pedals and Ed Sheeran's name on it

If you use the Rc 600 in single mode for example import loops for every single switch ( Intro,Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Solo, Outro) and change them between with the functionality that they will wait the loop ends to play the next one and if the loops that you import have a reverb tail (decay) will the rc 600 will let the tail play or will it cut the loop immediately?

Update: Having a chance now to mess around with the Looper X, I’ll be returning it. Although pretty sleek, the RC600 does a whole lot more. MIDI implementation for one is a lot better with the RC600 as well as effects. Love the touch screen and the navigation of the Looper X but for me it’s not worth double the price.
The one thing that kills me with the RC600 (maybe my colorblindness with red/green) is the amber/green record/play LED’s. Is there no way to change that? There’s a lot customization you can do with it but without a better screen it’s a bit hard to keep track of what’s where. I ordered the Sheeran and what I’m mostly worried about is loosing the external foot switch control for easy tap tempo and quick effects. The streamline workflow with big pedals, tuner, XLR outs, better visual feedback are all a plus.

The Sheeran pedal is not even comparable to the RC-600. The Sheeran is meant for people new to looping (who happen to have 1.2k pounds to burn) or professionals with not elaborate performances, whilst the RC is much more flexible for every single need you might have for almost a third of the price, the size and the weight. I wish boss improved the fx section and added the possibility to arm tracks (in a bulk, not just a single track) and press play to start them (a feature that I actually don't even need). All in all, the RC suits me perfectly, and I'm a massive Ed fan.

Why does everyone zero in on guitar fx? They can had very easily from a variety of sources. The one thing a looper needs vocal autotune fx. The Boss RC-505MkII doesn't have one. Adding one doesn't really address loop flow. Anyhow, it seems like a tank. I'm sure Ed loves it. Nobody talks about the FX included in the unit. And how much does it cost? Is there a moment in this video that answer that ? If I missed it, I'm sorry.

    • @CSProduction12
      @CSProduction12 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

The advantage is you can change fx on the fly as you change tracks if the fx are built in with one button press.
So, track 2 could have an octave effect for a bass line and that effect will be there once you change tracks without having to also hit another foot-switch on a guitar rig.
Otherwise, it's more or less pointless.

They are pedal footswitch toppers, and you can get hold of them on Amazon. I have links in the description for the majority of my videos, so you can always check them out there.
      Cheers, Ross

I love my RC 600 . What a great piece of equipment ! Although I want to see more of what the Sheeran x does with pre recorded tracks that can switch from verse to chorus and back,That I would like to see.Supposedly lots of songs to choose from. But I may have heard wrong and it can’t do that. We’ll see.lol

Brother, if you are doing pre recorded loops or tracks and just wanting to switch from verse to chorus etc…you might as well play to a karaoke track or strip it down to whatever instruments you want. Live looping is all about looping on the spot. No point of a looping pedal just use an iPad or your phone

@@thesameeffect I don’t use it as a looper. I use it as a sophisticated piece of equipment for what it is.A six track recording studio with everything built in that sits on the floor and I control with my feet. I have keys, guitars, and a bass ,that, on the fly, when I hear a song , I jump over lay down tracks ,add layers upon layers of instruments coming in and out,and jam for hours on one song. I am having a blast.Easy peezy. No pc , no daw ,instant gratification, also sharpening my skills on my instruments.Lovin’ it .PS I also think it’s the American way to take something and use it for its unintended purpose.

A bunch of footage from the advert and opinions without ever touching the thing. This is what's wrong with you tube. Click bait garbage video

I thought it was informative. I just found out about the X and have an RC 600. He touched base on all the differences of the two of what they both are capable of doing .The next step is to invest or try someone else’s X to get a proper review, like all the other you tubers.

After the many hours I've just spent scripting, recording, and editing a video to share my views with others, I think calling it garbage would be a little harsh. But hey, we're all entitled to our opinion, even without the ability to touch something.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
