My wife and I went to LPN school together 18 years ago, I got my RN from a diploma program in 2008, BSN in 2015 and MSN in 2018. I am a nurse manager at a large medical center in the Midwest I also pick up 3 agency shifts a month at another hospital, 130-150k a year for the past 3 years 200K + in 2021. Marriage didn't survive ex-wife chose to remain an LPN, she is a Assisting Director of Nursing at a long term care center making 70k plus 2/3 agency shifts a month averaging 90k a year, its hard work but very fulfilling/rewarding. ROI on LPN is probably the best investment in education/training a person can make.

@@sandypannu6858 Most LPN/LVN programs do not require previous medical experience or prerequisite courses, you may have to take an aptitude test to show competency in basic math and reading, programs typically take a year of full time study, a great way to enter the nursing profession without a huge financial or time investment 👍

I’m in California SoCal, I’ve been offered 30-55hr as an LVN with paid housing and rental car weekly checks. Sounds tempting, but I prefer my 30.45hr fulltime with benefits working case management, was working from an office now I work remotely from home and love it. Can’t beat the employer benefits though, pto, paid sick leave, x3 paid personal days, paid bereavement x1 week. And paid employer healthcare insurance and dental covered my braces. The money is out there, but I am a bit of an introvert and don’t like working hands on patient care or with people. Prefer working behind the scenes.

Great info here!!! I am in Illinois and we had the same kind of program, I was able.to get my entire LPN program paid for 100%, including books, supplies, and gas/childcare. I graduate in July. Around here, I see LPNs in doctors offices, dermatology, drug rehabilitations, long term care and general adult units at the hospitals but our rate of pay I have seen as low at 18.00/hr to 40/hr. Such a wide range...

This video has definitely helped me make my decision on going to school for LPN. It's not that many schools offering the program here in Vegas for some reason. I'll call a school and they'll tell me they no longer offer the program. It's been a bit discouraging, but I'm determined to find one right for me. With the virus running rampant, you'd think it would be more healthcare programs offered now since we are in desperate need of nurses all over🤷🏾‍♀️

I love your videos! They have helped me a lot with making the right decision for myself! I’m 24 years old and graduated high school like 6 years ago . Growing up I wanted to be a nurse and be able to take care of people but when I was younger in high school I didn’t think I was smart enough for nursing or college but I let a guy that I was with at the time make me feel dumb but anyways fast forward I was going to go straight for RN but I want to quickly get in the medical field and start making money to better my future. I love take care of people . I am still nervous to start my pre requisite in August but also excited . I just regret not going to college right after high school . When I graduate college I will be the first person in my family from my parents and brother to graduate high school and college. I want to make myself proud and my family. I also want to be able to help my parents out more . I hope LPNs aren’t ever going to be phased out. Sorry for this long comment lol thank you for making these videos I do appreciate it because it helps me make a decision 💕 hope everything is going good for you!

Here in Texas, I'm torn in between.
I ask MAs, they tell me LVNs are being phased out -- do MA, just deal with the bad pay while you pursue RN (easier said than done).
I ask Nurses, they tell me do LVN because being MA is a waste of time & money.
LVN just..feels like the right route. But I can't deny my feeling of hesitation from constantly being told "MAs find jobs quicker than LVNs do".
Maybe I just need to be like you & not listen to anybody. Then again, maybe this pandemic has shown that EVERYBODY in the Health Care field is needed right now.
Right now I'm trying to do this through the local community college, since that's where I've been taking basic courses for what feels like forever (who'da thunk going to school while working wouldn't be easy?)

    • @heyjustine8199
      @heyjustine8199  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Alex,
Honestly it’s depending on what you can do. LVN will take longer but worth it in the end vs. MA. you can find a job quickly as an LVN but most likely in a nursing home, which isn’t bad at least to get your foot in the door. The pay is great and has potential to grow further while your doing an RN program. Personally, I wouldn’t want to waste my time and money on an MA program or CNA bevy they are over worked and underpaid more so than nurses.
Hope this helps. Do what feels right! Good luck 👍🏽

I really think it depends on your state. Where I live LPN really only work in long term care facilities. Hospitals do not hire them at all and like you said most dr offices hire MA because they’re cheaper if an LPN works in a dr office they make the same rate of pay as a MA. I still think it’s a great accomplishment and a good career but definitely check if you can do what you want in your state before you go that route.

I see that lvn or Lpn not being treated with the same respect and a lot of my fellow RN coworkers look down on them as if there cna. My honest opinion is To go for the RN straight if your able to. Because more opportunities and growth and def more money being offered as an RN . But if your in a rush then do what’s best for you for being an Lpn or LVN first.

The respect is the same. But I think you are referring to the scope of practice. LPN can't handle IVs, LPN can't do recommendations as RNs do. RNs are responsible for LVNs and CNAs on the floor. New symptoms or acute should be assessed by an RN first. LVN cannot analyze, synthesize and evaluate data. LVNs must not be assigned to an unstable patient. I can go further. County got sued because an LVN was assigned to a patient who was actively dying, not sure the detail but here's the link! 8.3 million tax money nuhw.org/corizon-alameda-county-pay-8-3-million-settle-jail-death-lawsuit/

I’m not familiar with schools in So Cal but I’m sure you have more LVN programs available to you and assistance so definitely look into those! Good luck 👍🏽

My long term goal in to become a RN. I actually wanted to be a doctor or surgeon but I waited to long and life happened and now I am older regretting it.. But never to late I am just curious about the best route to take. MA? LVN? EMT? So many options but I heard the best thing is really think about long term and what jobs are hiring for what and the money. I know it varies depending on where you live.

In between starting classes for LVN or an RN . I really want to work within the pediatric oncology field is that possible as an LVN ?

Honestly, I don't know, but I am sure you could work as an aid or ward clerk and work your way into more of a nursing position with your license. It depends on the facility.

Have you been a CNA for a long time 5 years or longer you can challenge the board and save $30,000 from going to these private schools and challenges. And you'll get the same LVN license that everyone else has in California. If you work in a nursing home you're going to get like 30 to 40 patients to yourself to pass me too and you have to try for but you don't have to settle for a nursing home you can also work in clinics and some hospitals do take LVN in California

I am considering doing a LVN/LPN program at my community college (1 year program) and work my way to BSN RN. I wanted to initially go straight to ADN RN, I just need to pass the TEAS entrance exam. But i also was considering phlebotomy bcuz I am mom and I want to work already. What would be better, LVN/LPN or phlebotomist?
