- Review of the Asus ZenBook 14 Q407IQ-BR5N4 which seems to bring a lot of value in the mid-tier space of laptops. Overall enjoyed this laptop but with a few hiccups. Should you buy this ZenBook?

Excellent review. Just purchased this unit at Best Buy yesterday and was going to take it back because of the webcam until I experienced the exact same improvement with the lighting...which is weird that light makes that much of a difference. Love this laptop over my hp envy 360.

I really like your review of this PC but once you said speakers are on the bottom I had to say deuces to this PC. I saw this PC at Best Buy as an Open Box deal. It looked interesting and by the model number I knew it was an Asus but not sure what kind so I took a pic of the model number info to go and look up online at home. On the flipside though I will most definitely follow U man!

A way to tell plastic from metal (e.g., on that bezel) is to lightly tap it with a key and listen to the sound. Try this a few times and you'll notice the difference.
nice vid keep it up!! i think you should check out this year’s model Q408UG, it’s currently selling at $540 on Best Buy, it has Ryzen 5 5500U, MX450, better speaker, also supports usb-c charging, it’s slightly bigger but thinner. maybe do some comparison between two? seeing that currently the newer model is slightly cheaper than the old one..

Hi Dayo! I'm a new subscriber and am throroughly enjoying your content! Do you think this year's Zenbook is better or worse than last year's (with price being a factor considered)? Also, would a laptop with GTX 1650 and 4k OLED screen perform similarly to a GeForce mx250 (or 350) and a 1080p screen for photo/video editing and not so much gaming? I'm making the assumption that a better resolution will require higher graphics and so it kinda equals out in performance?
This is my first zenbook, so it's hard for me to comment on that. Photo and video editing is heavily dependent on the CPU, so if the CPU is better in the 4K OLED model than it would undoubtably perform better and the 1650 is a much better graphics than the mx series

I figured that if u plug in the charger and turn the battery to performance mode it runs well at games but fps tend to flutuate throughout gaming since its heating up a bit.

@@DayoAworunse His budget is up til $700, but he already ordered the Zenbook 14 Ryzen 5 4500U MX350 on Amazon. Someone on the comments of legos45’s video on the fan problem found a solution:
“ hi so this was a problem with one of the power saving options.here is the steps:
1.go to device manager
2.choose universal serial bus controllers
3. Right click on the AMD USB 3.10 eXtensible Host controller and choose properties
4. Choose power management
5. Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
This solved my fan problem.I also contacted asus supervisor and told them this is software related and perhaps a bios update can fix this issue. ”
Idk if it works (even though a lot of the people on the comments said it works), but if the problem happens with his laptop then I’ll give this option a shot.
He's also upgrading from a refurbished HP Pavillion x360 M3-U001DX
How has he liked the laptop? Did he end up having the issue with the fan or the knocking sound?
@@LuvinLyfe052 It only happened once. I did the troubleshooting steps and it's working normally now ☺️ He loves the thin bezels of the screen and surprisingly great quality for its price. The Ryzen 5 is also crazy fast and he said he's very impressed.
I love this laptop. I use it mainly for work and social media. I do a little minor gaming and it handles it great. It runs Civ 6, Fortnite, Anno 1404, and The Settlers Rise of an Empire very well.
Do you have an issue with the fan and the knocking?
@@LuvinLyfe052 hi there. As for the fan, whenever I play a game, the fan activates and can get a little loud, but it doesn't affect performance.
I had no experience with knocking of any sort.

In the game review were you running on the AMD Radeon 6 graphics or actually on the MX350 card? Since Valorant and fall guys 1080p low settings on paper should get you 45+ FPS without huge stuttering
It was on the AMD card by accident. MX350 handles those games on low perfectly fine
I've heard about the fan issue a lot which is a deal breaker for me. I don't mind a fan if it's near silent. But if the computer already has thermal issues and the fans go to 100% when waking it from sleep that's a no go.

I had the fan issue, as well as issues with the keyboard not working coming out of sleep and the screen not turning on coming out of sleep when on battery power. The issues made it unusable.
I need to also say unapologetically that there isn't much of Vlogs of Black people doing tech reviews so that's my other reason for the follow!! Thanks again man! :>)
My washer/dryer has a display which is very difficult to read, even during the daytime. Very annoying. Just imagine the same thing with this Zenbook 14 where it's difficult to read the keyboard when there is the power of the sun illuminating the planet. Automatic deal breaker. Incredible that this laptop actually passed by Quality Control,

Weird that it flashes visible red leds for the face recognition.
It's infra red showing to help scan the face. Cameras capture it, but not so much too for the human eye

Absolute best? That's heavily dependent on ones needs and I haven't tested that many laptops to make a comment on that. It would be a tie between the xps and surface laptop 3

Because webcams are small, they are equiped with a small sensor. Small sensors need a lot of light to work properly, so they need to lower their shutter speed. Since shutter speed = FPS, the FPS dicrease.
On 60FPS cameras it is not as dramatic. But a 60FPS camera will always offer a lower quality immage given the sensor is the same quality.
To save some money, ASUS have put a 30FPS camera who is not the best. Forcing the laptop to require a lot of light.
You were holding a greyish black one but reviewed a silver keyboard..! I was searching for keyboard revies all day, i thought this would be it, but sadly it isn't!
FYI, thunderbolt 3 I think is an intel only thing.

I think that the fan issue is something in your model, cause mine doesn’t do that.
You have the blue/bronze model? If so, looks very striking, I love that color scheme and wish ASUS offered that for AMD. Another commenter said another TH-camr has this same problem so that is interesting.

I use asus zenbook 14, I think there is something wrong with the laptop or you are on battary saving mode because I play valorant on medium, and get steady 70 fps(no drops at all)

@@dochi_69 lol idk what issue ur talking about but for the keyboard, its just silver letters on top of a silver keyboard so its hard to see and the backlight kinda makes it worse . with the fan, i dont have a problem but sometimes on boot up it runs really fast for no reason

@@aromakc yes, I have had the laptop for about 16 days now and I love it. I heard the fan run loud once, but not again after that. It wasn't that loud when it did happen though. I haven't heard a knocking sound. The only negative I have is the keyboard wording is in fact a bit hard to see when the backlight is on. It's pretty annoying. The backlight feature is truly only meant to be used in darkness. When the room is not dark, turn the backlight off and you can see the keys okay. No complaints though. I'm very happy with my purchase!

This videos gaming section kinda doesn't match mine on my same exact model with the ryzen 5 ect, mine can run destiny 2 no lag good frames on high settings and thats a hefty game to play
Yeah, it was my mistake for not having it plugged in, and for some reason it was using the integrated graphics during my testing.
@@DayoAworunse Mhm when ever I have it plugged in it plays game so much better than not having it plugged in. And yes, use the high performance graphic option

I recently got the 4700u version at a really good price it was selling $999 CAD, I was also able to get $100 off on top. I also got the fan issue at the beginning. I think its due to windows update, I shut off the computer and started again, the problem never showed up again (restart didnt work), shut down did.

All of my ASUS laptops have had poor cameras. My cheap Chromebook far exceeds their quality which makes it a real shame for an otherwise nice product.

@Aroko 76 I Solved it! Basically sometimes when you wake up the laptop from sleep the fans will go 100% and won't stop unless you shut down the laptop
@Aroko 76 Control panel, power settings, select the balanced profile, go to advanced settings and put the hibernate times the same as your sleep times. Never had an issue since then
@Aroko 76 good screen, great build, nice keyboard, good touchpad, very good specs killer price! Anything else you want from a laptop? 😅 I use it for photo video editing and also a bit of gaming. It's literally a do it all machine. Also a good selection of ports! Great laptop highly recommended

Hi, just a quick update. I was using integrated graphics by accident. After installing the proper drivers and plugged in through the AC adapter, it's completely playable.
Once U said this sucker had speakers on the bottom? I broke da hell out. I am NOT interested in a laptop with speakers at the bottom. My old azz existing laptop got speakers on the top.
