It would panic me using this in public incase the surface I’m placing the keyboard on isn’t full clean (like a coffee shop table having little granules of sugar) and then you’re putting the keyboard back onto the screen when you’re done to pack up

They have absolutely nailed a couple of key design innovations on this. The perfectly integrated keyboard, and the rear stand to prop up the second screen are so smart and suddenly make this concept really viable. Previous dual full screen laptops did not have these and it would be difficult to envision actually using them. Turning half a touch screen into a touch keyboard for instance that's just not a good solution. I often set my 12-in tablet up next to my laptop and plug it in as a second screen which works well but is pretty cludgy and I need two laptop stands and a cable to make this setup comfortable. This design is really brilliant and I hope other makers copy and approve upon this.
I actually went "Oh..." when I saw that stand on the bottom. Honestly, I think this form factor is definitely a strong contender for any future laptop I buy. For productivity, it's unbeatable. Imagine drawing on the bottom screen and having all your references on the top screen. To that end, I would maybe suggest a smaller, but wide stand closer to the main hinge so that the bottom screen can be tilted toward the user for more comfortable drawing.

As someone who purchases laptops for a team, I love this. We use laptops at the office so people can move around during their workday : at their desk, on a sofa, in a meeting room, or at home. But this means they need an extra monitor and keyboard at their desk so they can work ergonomically with their laptops. This reduces the need for an extra keyboard, ensures you always have it with you, and i'm assuming it will be very easy to mount the screens up.

THIS IS PERFECT! Dual screens, works as a tablet and has good processor and GPU. This is gold for digital nomads. The only thing I would change (really niche) it's the keyboard, I would make a custom ergonomic keyboard like an Atreus with trackpad and trackpoint to attach to it instead of the regular one.
I was looking extremely looking into the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i but this is an amazing improvement over it. I was wanting a 14 inch duel screen laptop but wouldve settled for 13 inches. I am also happy this has a headphone jack.
The hinge is wrong, it should've been a 360 hinge: tent mode and a level experience when resting the thing horizontally (side to side, not top and bottom)
I feel like the mirror screen function would be perfect... if only the hinges bent far back enough to have a 'tent' mode. That way you don't have to bump heads to view the screens together.
I would absolutely love a device like this for dev work with the extra screen. Asus really did put a lot of work into designing it, shame that it won't be completely flat on the table but I can understand why and its only $1499? Glad they didn't price it ridiculously high.
If that's true, they should REALLY have put it on the right side. Currently, all USB-C ports are on the left, I like it when my laptops have USB-C on both sides
It's better than YogaBook 9i in almost every aspect. The only downside for me is the lack of the tablet mode (360-degree hinge). I like the built-in kickstand and the Bluetooth keyboard very much!
Yep, and it looks like the keyboard _isn't_ using BT while it's on the laptop (pogo pins attach it, Dave said zero latency, plus the added benefit of no battery drain). Best of both worlds ! 🌎 🌎
@nav579 Agreed, I ike to kick the proverbial tires & "try before I buy" whenever possible 😄 FWIW, Dave said the typing experience with the keyboard is great, and he likes the trackpad as well. He didn't love the onscreen/virtual keyboard, but that makes sense (I hate typing on phone & tablet glass myself). Understandablely, when the physical keyboard is detached from the laptop (dual-display mode), there will be a slight delay due to Bluetooth. Same goes for the Lenovo YogaBook 9i.
The VAIO Flip was one of my favorite laptops for the fun stuff I could do with it's touch screen such as flipping it over during a presentation. But it only had the one screen. Next time definitely give the orthodontist a little love; NDAs are to prevent competition, not customers. ~laughs
Nice. As a YB 9i owner, I can appreciate the different strategies. It's nice to be able store the keyboard in between the monitors, but it seems that you would actually *need* to have the keyboard there as a spacer. Sometimes I just bring the YB without the keyboard if I know I'm going to be typing a lot. I thought the keyboard was going to fold in half and allow you to place it in front of the lower screen.

This IS awesome! I have almost an identical setup like at 6:40 when I work from home. A 16 inch laptop that I prop up with a stand and then connect a LG Gram 16 portable display that rests on the laptop-keyboard and then connect mouse and normal keyboard. Saw this from Linus. Gotta say, all the times I've seen gimmicks on laptops like the previous Zen stuff where they had a screen but it was not full sized, but small... they always suck. Even the attachable foldable screens, it just never seemed like a polished product. This is the first one I see that actually grabs my attention. Not ultra thick, not folding backwars so one of your screens is unprotected etc. Its pretty cool ngl.

As someone who games on his laptop when away from home, my mouth is watering right now. I was thinking of one day buying an external monitor to use. Imaging something like this being a dedicated gaming laptop. It’s an easy sell for me.
Yeah, but I believe it doesn't have discrete graphics; it's not designed to be a gaming laptop per se.
No doubt, though -- sometime in the not-distant future, Asus, Lenovo, or some other company will release a dual-display laptop with a dedicated GPU. 😀
@@sharkfintech5893 I’ll be waiting for that. My laptop is almost 2 years old. I hope you get another 2 or 3 more years out of it so hopefully by that time we’ll have something like that out.
That's the first time since the MacBook M1 that I see a laptop that really get me excited. I don't plan to buy a new laptop just now, but if I did it would definitely be this one
I'm currently not in the market for a new laptop, but if I were I'd probably buy this. I *really* hope this sells well and the category catches on. Lenovo did it first (and hats off to them for that), but this feels like a no compromises version. It's the first time in a looong while that a form factor change in the laptop market is genuinely exciting and not just a gimmick.
Watched the first draft of this video with all the errors, then deleted. I think you are overdoing it Dave, take a breather 😂 Sick laptop anyway!
Same I was in the middle of the video and pop came video not available.
I am curious, what were the errors?
I was also in the middle of watching when the pop up came.
@@Saif_-_-_Ali He had various parts of the video repeated over and over while the audio was narrating a totally different thing. The audio track was consistent, but the video timeline had various parts stiched together incoherently and the same scenes were repeated. Also, it lasted 16 minutes, because again parts of the video were repeated after the review was done. Happens to the best of us I guess
@@peterpicture Did not expect a detailed reply. Thanks!!
Never seen Dave this excited for a product before.
as a ui-ux / frontend developer, this is my dream laptop, I hate working in my laptop because I need minimum of 2 screens so I am reluctant to leave my workspace, this is perfect, if i can connect a portable monitor as a third display this would essentially feel like taking my home office on the go
Dave is reliving the 80’s
THIS IS PERFECT! Dual screens, works as a tablet and has good processor and GPU. This is gold for digital nomads. The only thing I would change (really niche) it's the keyboard, I would make a custom ergonomic keyboard like an Atreus with trackpad and trackpoint to attach to it instead of the regular one.
Sadly, it doesn't have a true tablet mode -- the hinge doesn't rotate 360°. The Lenovo YogaBook 9i does have that flexibility.
Agree, but Lenovo then has peripherals vs the concise keyboard Asus created. It's a tough call that really comes down to practical functionality.
I was looking extremely looking into the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i but this is an amazing improvement over it. I was wanting a 14 inch duel screen laptop but wouldve settled for 13 inches. I am also happy this has a headphone jack.
First I'm seeing dave drop videos back to back. I love it
The hinge is wrong, it should've been a 360 hinge: tent mode and a level experience when resting the thing horizontally (side to side, not top and bottom)
I really like it and I wasn't expecting it to be so well priced, I was bracing myself to hear $3000+
No shit. Hp Spectre Fold 17 is $4999
Yesssss, and the Lenovo 9i is $2,000 minimum. This machine is better, at a lower cost.
Apple would sell that for $3.999, for the lowest spec to boot.
@@RJ-jg6jx I agree 👍🏻 🤣🤣🤣
That is legit a really cool laptop. For music production or editing, that's awesome.
I feel like the mirror screen function would be perfect... if only the hinges bent far back enough to have a 'tent' mode.
That way you don't have to bump heads to view the screens together.
6:38 I thinks this is the first time seeing his recording setup with all the transitions in real time, super cool stuff
I would absolutely love a device like this for dev work with the extra screen. Asus really did put a lot of work into designing it, shame that it won't be completely flat on the table but I can understand why and its only $1499? Glad they didn't price it ridiculously high.
Would be cool to play a Nintendo 3DS emulator on this.
The USB C port on the keyboard is not JUST for charging. Actually it makes a low latency direct connection. (According to Asus).
If that's true, they should REALLY have put it on the right side. Currently, all USB-C ports are on the left, I like it when my laptops have USB-C on both sides
The composition of 10:42 is amazing, gives a 3D vibe, keep up the good work man!
I wonder what the typing experience is like. That’s one of the most important considerations for me, a keyboard that feels great.
@nav579 Agreed, I ike to kick the proverbial tires & "try before I buy" whenever possible 😄
FWIW, Dave said the typing experience with the keyboard is great, and he likes the trackpad as well.
Agree 100%. Lenovo's hinge is really the only contending spec they have aaaand unfortunately I cannot decide 😅
9:49 The mirrored Gandalf laughing scene had some irresistible humor in it
The VAIO Flip was one of my favorite laptops for the fun stuff I could do with it's touch screen such as flipping it over during a presentation. But it only had the one screen. It was my favorite computer so far. I think this one will be my next favorite. Thanks for the demo Dave. Next time definitely give the orthodontist a little love; NDAs are to prevent competition, not customers. ~laughs
The wireless keyboard would be better if it was just the top half, why not use the glass on the screen underneath as a super wide trackpad?
I wonder what the durability is like if you put it in a backpack with a few textbooks. That was always a concern for me when I was a student.
@@nav579I’ve heard that it can handle up to 26 ish lbs or 13 kgs, and the kickstand can hold up to 25! 😮 i was shocked when i heard this but I’m getting mine tmr and i’m so excited 😊
@@aaronho7213 Sweet! Tell me if it meets your expectations? I am excited by this flashy format. I think I may wait to purchase one, but…I want it so bad! 😂
@@nav579 sadly, it was too warm for my wants. maybe a future variant will run cooler, but for now I have a macbook pro m3 pro :)
I love everything about this design/experience. Too bad I don’t need a laptop and can’t afford one anyway.
I want this so bad. Just now going on a trip and I have to take a MacBook, a wireless keyboard , a separate monitor , cables to hook it all up, a stand for the monitor AND the screen counts as a separate laptop so TSA makes me put both out and separate every time. You’re telling me I can just have 1 laptop with all of this??????? WHAT and it isn’t just a gimmick WHAT. Like it works???
but that extra screen is twice the cost of a monitor
Just use your macbook with an ipad as the second screen.
as a product designer, i love how asus kept in mind every aspect of ux possible with both hardware and software, comendable job asus
Cool and well executed, but I really hope that they polish the single screen folding version more which has more potential use cases.
Next year I hope we'll have an evolution of the zenbook fold 17 from last year (which was more a concept than a finished product), which offer more possibilities with the full panel (with no cut with the flexible screen)
This IS awesome! I have almost an identical setup like at 6:40 when I work from home. A 16 inch laptop that I prop up with a stand and then connect a LG Gram 16 portable display that rests on the laptop-keyboard and then connect mouse and normal keyboard. This would make it even easier and portable. Awesome.
I use this setup for work and people always do a double take when they walk by it, been looking for a portable laptop for home use for a while now and this just might be it if the price is 1499.
This form factor looks to be a good application for a larger flexi screen.
Just FYI, it DOES fold backward (tent and tablet modes).
Imagine still watching narcissistic manipulator trashtube reviewer like LTT...
I wonder how many hours the battery would last if both screens were on.
Lowkey thinking of buying this. At that price point? It's kinda hard not to buy it even just to try the experience of owning a device like that. Will have to consult it with the pillow 😅
7:24 I like the fact that Dave is still using a Mac primarily for his work while praising this Win book with a new form factor. At the end of day, what truly matters is productivity at all regarding work.
9:49 what a sick editing lol
Dave smiling so much like he just had another child is soo good😂😭✨
how's the ergonomics of the keyboard when detached? does it have stands to lift it up?
this is so cool, how's the battery life specially when using in the two screens mode?
This feels like a larger version of what the Surface neo was to be.
The built in stand & full size keyboard with trackpad is literally everything i wanted to change from the lenovo yoga book. I need it 😭
What about lenovo's hinge vs Asus? Definitely not a fan of the Lenovo peripheral concept, but I do like their hinge construct.
4 videos in 24 hours 🤩
Rumours says there is a MacBook like this upcoming!
This is the first dual screen laptop that genuinely has a future. I hope this sticks around!
The amount of gear I need in my backpack to replicate this set up... what a well thought out device!
This looks SICK !!!! I mean, duo display is already on the market, but this laptop is really bringing that functionality and productivity to the market.
Yet, just wonder if you use the two displays vertically, arent you blocking the heat dissipation on one side? Will that be an big issue?
also..if Asus can see, please also make 15or 16inch version, I will buy without hesitation
Does that mean they will also drop the half bottom screen design on the Zephyrus Duo?
Fastest click on a Dave2D Clip I've ever done 😂
nah i watched the first video 🤣
yea no, we just watched this an hour ago. it's a re-upload because of the previous upload had repeated segments.
And with 8 hours battery life? I’m curious to see actual prices/tests when it actually comes out
I wonder how good all those features would integrate on linux. Would love this with an open source system!
when the hardware is amazing but it runs linux 😐
You did a great job conveying entusiasm for the product. Yes I agree it looks good. For me great to be able to demonstrate to someone seeing a second version of the same screeen.

The second screen is impressive, but if some sand gets stuck under that keyboard I shudder to imagine the scratches.
Yeah, ain’t no way I’ll be taking this thing to the Mojave with me

The one time every 5 years I go to the beach, I think i'll just keep this thing in the AirBnB. Not a huge problem. Who would take it out on the beach anyway? Imagine going to the ocean and sitting on your screen...
there's always a tempered glass screen protector for every product with screen
(I just found out that there's even tempered glass for macbook touch bar)
I feel at 8:15 he's basically pointing out (without saying it) that it can't really cope with running two high res screens. Running a second screen from an Imac Pro with Vega 64 you instantly feel the drain on resources so it's no surprise this is the case, but worth being aware of. I wish additional screens were included in benchmarking as it can cause a real difference.
I don't think Dave was implying that performance per se suffered with the dual 3K OLED displays, I read it as a drain on battery life.
Asus are killing it, once again! Kudos for great (p)review!
Yeah, looks like clear market leader, with their zephyrus 2024 and this one
So sick. What's the battery life like though? Especially with two screens on, I assume it drains pretty fast...
