Great video. Nice to see a website where a person can love something other an Apple laptop. And reasonable reviews. I would have said great, but I think Josh really needs to include grading criteria that factors in price. For example, lower the score on MacBooks since they tend to carry premiums over "comparable" Windows laptops. I have been planning on building a PC this year but I am going to college next year and I’m wondering if a laptop is worth it instead. I want to go windows for gaming and video editing but not sure if there are any worthy laptops to replace a desktop. This video was helpful though!
Actually your M2 pro is taking twice the time to render NOT FOR THE MEMORY BANDWITH. Is taking twice the time to render because your MAX machine has TWICE THE HARDWARE ENCONDERS. And video editing software is not even close to use all your memory bandwith. Your M3 pro should take about the same as the m2 pro, but I've read that the M3s have some issue with finalcut, so not sure.
My laptops of choice are the Huawei Matebook B5-430 (which I had to get because of work) and the MacBook Air M2 13” base model. They’re similarly specced, quite fast and responsive and both can handle all my daily job-related and personal workloads without issues - or overheating. Unless they do 4k video-editing and/or use the whole Adobe CC suite, these laptops fit the needs of basically everyone.
Hi Josh, Loved the video! I really need a new laptop for doing CAD, etc. on. Your rendering being half the speed likely is about there being one media engine as opposed to two in a max chip. I can't fathom the memory bandwidth being the limiting factor if the rendering speeds scale linearly 2x with the addition of another media engine.

Yes it does. Plus MacBook M3 Max gets a little warm and you do hear some fan noise. Its not like the MacBook's with M series of old. Still quieter and cooler than a Windows laptop though. Also it isn't as fast for editing as a high end PC laptop. At 6:45 you might be mistaken by stating video rendering takes twice as long due to memory bandwidth limitations. Imho it’s linked to the difference between Pro and Max chips by the Max variant sporting 2 media engines compared to the pro having one. From an engineering standpoint this kind of reduction wouldn’t warrant halving of the performance. It sure takes a hit but my hunch is the media engines.
I am extremely aware of that. Please take a look at my latest video. I show a graph comparing Pro vs Max. I specifically compare M2 Pro 12C vs M3 Pro 12C. Both have the same number of Media Engines. You will see the rendering difference is in the exact ratio of the difference in memory bandwidth

hello josh, i am experiencing tingling like sensation while charging with the given power adaptor itself on the apple macbook, could not find why, it is specific to my macbook, tried it on multiple outlets and sockets still the same issue on all over the lid, i could find people on internet saying it is normal, if it is normal why apple is not stating this. do you ever experience the same slight electric shock sensation while charging macbook pro?
Yes, I can confirm this on two different MacBook Pro's. There is just this slight electric sensation if you stroke the metal body while charging. Apparently its called leak current or creeping current. All my Mac-using colleagues never recognised it, so it must be rather weak..
Im a cumputer engineer with pathway in cybersecurity student and im deciding between a MacBook air m3 and the asus zenbook 14 oled which one do you recommend
Good advice, but some teammembers sound like robots with weird timing and tone of voice. Auto prompters are not necessarily the best idea when people are not used to it.
If people are charismatic, know what they're talking about and can improvise, then for sure let them just do their thing. But, for inexperienced public speakers, it's best to give them something to look/focus at and have their lines on the prompter. It WILL still sound stiff, but that's better than looking unprofessional or losing track of thought/getting nervous from lots of retakes etc.
I have question for fast video editing should I look at the ram or processor. For example should I go with ryzen 5 16 gb ram or Intel I7 8 gb ram? Does processor matter or ram/ dedicated graphics card matter for better performance?
We actually did 2 this year. The student laptop video we got one in for and didn't like it. Right now, we have one in for a creator laptop video. The Surface Studio 2. We don't like it. It gets very warm to the touch and blows hot air at our hands, as the fans and vents are in a weird place. Hope that helps
Hi Josh, what do you make of the M2 Macbook Air 13” with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage for someone looking to do Software Development? It’s on the Apple refurbished store atm and I know someone that can get me staff discount on top of that. Basically works out around 30% off retail price. Is the lack of a fan, and an M2 chip instead of an M2 Pro Chip a deal breaker ?
Agree I have the same sentiment, especially hate how snobby apple ecosystem users are and how much of a superiority complex they have, don't wanna waste extra money to be like these kinds of people
If you actually pay attention to some of the comments it’s never anyone who uses Apple products who says things like that. All kinds of people use either product. The fact that your limiting yourself to not use a product because you simply just don’t like it for reasons that literally have nothing to do with the performance or build quality of the product is absolutely insane to me. I love my Apple products and I also love my windows pc be open it’s just hardware and tech.
I just got a Macbook Pro M3 pro after not using a Mac for over a decade. I'm not a wealthy snob, I just wanted a solid editing workstation with no serious gaming capabilities that waste my time. I'm pretty sure you just believe the apple marketing demographic a bit too hard. Because so far this is the most solid piece of kit I've ever owned in my life, it just takes some getting used to
Its not a complex, if you even once buy a macbook and try macos you will see how much windows really sucks. But with this mindset I dont think you will
Please, could someone explain the bandwidth limitation on the M3 chip? I didn't knew anything about it and it might hold me to go instead to the M2 one, thanks in advance the good soul who can explain me this point
Acer laptops are just a waste of money. My Acer Nitro 5 got short circuited by itself for no reason. It is not a surprise that none of their models are in any lists over the internet. Acer uses the lowest quality components in their motherboards along with cheapest screen, which has lowest colour accuracy.

My lenovo legion 5 died after a year and a half. I used to be a big lenovo fan but not now. Unacceptable. Surfed the net and I find I am not alone.
Macbook would be perfect without the notch......
I've never watched an ad this long
So the Scar 16 2024 is a good buy?!
I have tried the 2023 M16 but it gets really hot!the Scar dose not get too hot?!!
Scar is much cooler than M16. M16 is not good. Please use our link to support the channel. Btw Scar 18 is even better
@@JustJoshTech thank you for the reply. How come none of you uses the Scar 18 then?
Are you going to do a giveaway on the Legion laptop? :)
Great useful youtube video on laptops thanks
Is the contest for the legion 5 still going
Ahh love you for the effort and integrity always josh always ❤🎉
Thanks for the support
Can you please tell me which one I should buy among these two laptops.
1) HP Victus 15 i5-13420H, NVIDIA RTX 2050, 16 gb RAM, 512 gb SSD, 144hz refresh rate (2023).
2) Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 16 i5-13500H, 16 gb RAM, 1 Tb SSD, 2.5K display, 120hz refresh rate (2023).
Would you recommend the framework 13 Amd for a student ?
Definitely
Hey Josh, thanks for the useful information you’re giving to us with your team! I just wanna ask for your advice, which one would you recommend for me?
MacBook Air M2 (13.6 inch - 8 ram - 256 ssd)
Asus Zenbook 14X (14.5 inch 2.8K OLED - i9-13900H - 16 ram - 1tb ssd 4.0)
Both are priced at 1300$
both laptops are amazing but from my personal use I found that I am able to do a lot more with a windows laptop in my use case. The m2 MacBook seems to be held back by Mac OS and only being Able to use certain applications.
pick windows one, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd will help you on the long run, however if you intend to just use it for browsing then pick up macbook, its battery life amazing, no fans always cold to the touch
Hello Josh if you must choose only one, would you go with the 14" or 16" MacBook Pro - M2 Pro version.
14inch for me due to portability
What are your thoughts on the microsoft studio 2? Worth the cost of not so much?
I looked for it on your website but did not see it
I hate it lol. It's so bad. We bought one. It gets crazy warm to the touch and is uncomfortable to use. The edge cuts into your wrist
hello josh, i am experiencing tingling like sensation while charging with the given power adaptor itself on the apple macbook, could not find why, it is specific to my macbook, tried it on multiple outlets and sockets still the same issue on all over the lid, i could find people on internet saying it is normal, if it is normal why apple is not stating this. do you ever experience the same slight electric shock sensation while charging macbook pro?
Yes, I can confirm this on two different MacBook Pro's. There is just this slight electric sensation if you stroke the metal body while charging. Apparently its called leak current or creeping current. All my Mac-using colleagues never recognised it, so it must be rather weak..
What happened to Dell XPSs and why is no one recommending them? is it the price?
Im a cumputer engineer with pathway in cybersecurity student and im deciding between a MacBook air m3 and the asus zenbook 14 oled which one do you recommend
The Discord Server invite does not work on the Giveaway page. :(
Thanks, I enjoyed that. I'm a MacBook Pro 14 fan too, I've got an M1 Pro model and have no need (or intention) to upgrade.
I’m curious why you don’t review Microsoft surface devices - specifically surface laptops??
We actually did 2 this year. The student laptop video we got one in for and didn't like it. Right now, we have one in for a creator laptop video. The Surface Studio 2. We don't like it. It gets very warm to the touch and blows hot air at our hands, as the fans and vents are in a weird place. Hope that helps
Great video bro.
Even though I still can’t afford any of those laptops for now😅
I would rather want to know, which laptop Josh's famous Mum is using 😂
could you please review about the galaxy book 3 360, evo core i7 and 1TB storage with 15.6 inch screen.
Josh can you tell me who won ur contest for this computer. I got an email from youtube saying I won
Hi josh. I am trying to decide between lenovo legion slim 7 gen 8 AMD or slim 7i. Wich one would you recomend me? They are at the same price.
If the Slim 7i comes with RTX 4070 i'd get that. Otherwise the AMD one... OR if you need Intel for your software like Premier Pro
The new Dell xps 14 and xps 16 looks good.
Your Discord joining link is expired, how can i participate for the giveaway!!
Please help me out
as a medical student I really need a laptop. I tried to enter all the possible ways for the giveaway.. but I don't use twitch and tiktok 😟
Hey Josh, the Discord link on your site is down, could you fix it up.
Can you check now and let me know? I updated it. Thanks
Depends on whheater condition near u....if too hot during summers u know
on the giveaway site it says that the discord invite has expired
Awesome video, amazing laptops 😍🤩
I have a MAX M3 14 inch and its far from a disaster…. blender, davinci, xcode….
Never Heard anybody liking any alienware Laptops lol
I will NEVER use an Apple product. I will stay away from that ecosystem until the day I die.
So it's not just Josh?
😂
