    Make sure to test out the Lenovo slim 7 Ryzen 7 4800u when it comes out. That laptop is confirmed to use LPDDR4x 4266mhz at full 128 bit bandwidth (68GB/s)... the asus and acer are probably weaker because their using LPDD4 at 64 bit (33GB/s). Lenovo also might also configure there ryzen laptops at 25w tdp, compared to just 15w on the asus and acer...

    I have a concern regarding battery timings.I recently bought Asus zenbook 14 UX425JA.
    The shopkeeper said to drain the battery completely and then recharge it full..In order to discharge I downloaded some Programs i needed like MATLAB(24GB size) and Eclipse for java.After it got discharged completely,i charged it to 100%.The asus company claims it to have 22hrs battery but its obvious it wont be the case.The asus store guy said if you are doing very very basic it must run upto 14-15 hrs otherwise 10 hrs it must go on for.But after i charged it to 100%,And when i take the cursor to the battery,it shows 4hrs some minutes remaining.Also the setting of performance is set to 50% and not at best performance.Another thing is when i am using only eclipse,the laptop at top is getting hot. Since i have less knowledge about all this can you tell if its a matter of concern and must contact Asus team or its a common thing? Its not even 24hrs i have bought this laptop.and its a pretty expensive @t i am worried.If you can help me in understanding both the things i.e battery timing and heat.

    You sort of bash ssd for low linear speeds at the beginning of the video, but in my opinion it's not important for 95% of users. Even a decent SATA SSD is more than enough for most of the users, and even advanced users are rarely bottlenecked by SSD.

      Lenovo slim 7.. wait next month when the higher spec models release.. its a 14" ultrabook with a good enough display (1080p, 300 nit, 100% SRGB, 60hz freesync) ryzen 7 4800u (8 core 16 thread) vega 8 graphics (gets close to the mx350) and unlike other laptops, Lenovo configures the tdp high and put in full bandwith 128 bit LPDD4x 4266mhz (68GB/s) .. And it charges via USB C, unlike these cheaper laptops. Got 2 usb type A and hdmi.. Only draw back it doesnt have a touch screen, so no pen support and no tablet mode.

      I have two Samsung 128GB SD cards in my camera, both of them happen to be just microSDs in an adapter, so this notebook can work for me. Of course, if you already have a large collection of SDcards or need UHS II, it's not an option.

    • @denvera1g1
      @denvera1g1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rusparmesan True, i have one camera that uses a 400GB micro SD card in an adapter. The reason i say full sized SD card is that you cant get the V90 cards needed for some 4K cameras in micro form factor, even if it is UHS1. No 8k camera will work(for very long) without a V90 card. and the lower that V number on the card, the longer it takes to empty the internal buffer of the camera when just taking pictures. I have V90 cards in my Sony A7iii and if i'm taking a burst of say a crop duster, fighter jet, or a hummingbird or something, and want to change to recording video, i have to wait for all of those pictures to write to the card first, even if i want to something simple like change some settings to fix a problem with the previous pictures, i have to wait. Having super fast cards means you can react more quickly, and you cant do that with micro SD

    Brett, idk if the performance inconsistencies you're seeing are coming from the changes in Infinity Fabric speed (it gets halved after the RAM is clocked above 3800MHz, I think) but that may be something to keep in mind with the LPDDR4 being clocked at over 4k MHz

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Infinity Fabric can clock much higher on the monolithic die of the Zen 2 based APUs than it can on on Zen 2 "chiplet edition" chips, so it shouldn't go out of 1:1:1 mode on 4266MHz RAM. Current best memory overclock I've seen on the 4700G (same chip as 4800H/U but at much higher clocks) was 6GHz in 1:1:1 mode, so it's safe to assume that the IF will clock as high as the cores themselves. Which makes sense. The IF on chiplet versions is made on GloFo's 12nm which sucks every kind of ass compared to TSMC's 7nm the core complexes are made on.

    Also how did you manage to disable the dGPU for the battery test? I just hope Nvidia Optimus organises the programmes well enough but if theres a way to turn it off completely that might be better for battery life when im on the go.
    Can you go into more detail of how LPDDR4 might limit the power of the Ryzen CPU? It seems if anything with higher clock speeds it should increase performance especially since the Zenbook is at a pretty fast 4266mhz.

    I picked it up for $550 and have been using it for two weeks now. I don't game, but I do some screen recording, light editing, writing, and general office use. The screen is great, the battery life is great, and i don;t see the need for additional RAM. This is a great notebook for the price for the average consumer.

    I have a previous generation AMD based Zenbook 14. When I first got this, the benchmarks of my R7 3700u based Zenbook were at levels near what many R5 3500u based laptops achieved. Then I discovered Asus has set very conservative thermal limit and boost TDP. Using Ryzen controller, I fixed these. Once the full potential of the CPU was unlocked, it fared at par with other laptops with R7-3700u and Intel's i7-8665u. Zenbook series prefers cool run over performance by default. I think this 4500u based model is limited by Asus in same way.

      No this laptop would be fine but it only has a 1080p display. Laptops with 4K displays are usually 1500 and up. I wouldn’t recommend getting a laptop to watch 4K videos when you get a really nice 4K tv for half the price. Anyway you just need an i5 9th gen and 4gb of ram and good internet.

      I suggest you buy the Zenbook UM433IQ. it is a great laptop. I live in Canada too and I bought the exact same model from Canada Computers. It is perfect for everything I use it for. Great screen, fast CPU, ample Ram if you buy the 16Gb version with 512gbSSD and Ryzen 7 4700u. If you can get this model on sale around CAD $ 1000, it is an exceptionally good deal.

      It's lpddr4x, not normal DDR4. Basically lpddr4x has half the the bandwidth, so to convert to normal DDR4 you have to divide the speed in 2 (assuming it's running dual channel, which Brett - UFD tech - confirmed) to get the effective date rate. Essentially this means it is equivalent to DDR4 2133mhz ram, which is not impressive at all.
