Muhammad Ali - clip from The Greatest (1977) starring Ali himself

  • Clip from the movie "The Greatest". I just liked this clip a lot. It doesn't necessarily reflect my own private views. But I thought it was courageous of him.
Ali is told by the white army recruiter that he'll probably be given a soft position if he served in Vietnam, so he should take it. He gently explains that he would rather go to jail than be used as a recruiting tool to recruit other blacks like himself to go kill Asians who have never done anything bad to blacks.

If he would have boxed less. Like George Foreman did when he took 1o years off in his prime. It could have prevented a lot of the deterioration.
It's sad to see that happen to him because he would have been such a great American in the spotlight to speak on the important social issues going on in our country & our world.

Ali and Malcolm X were great men that impacted history. They ended up being true Muslims.
Elijah Muhammad was an impostor, a false prophet with adultery and the blood of Malcolm on his hands.
All his teachings were wrong and both Malcolm and Ali discovered that. With all due respect, you should never mention Elijah Muhammad in the same sentence as these two historical figures.

I watched a documentary done 20 odd years ago, and it followed a group of Vietnam vets preparing to go back to visit the country 20 odd years after the war. This was their first time back since and they told stories, one of the fellas told of his best friend, who went crazy out there, got sent home and tried to get sent back to Nam. He apparently committed suicide at home after trying to get sent back. It was also told guys were making their injuries worse so they’d get sent home. I can’t imagine anything like that.
