He really put the pressure on Ali, too!! I watched this right after the rumble in the jungle and it is crazy how Evangelista pushed the pace of the whole fight
Muhammad Ali was the complete boxer - intelligent, skillful, and very fast. He changed the entire picture of boxing from slugging matches to a scientific art. He was fascinating to watch in the ring. He danced, jabbed with the speed of lightning, and couldn't help being a clown at times. We are extremely lucky to have lived during his times. Not only did he live by example as a boxer, but also as a superb human being. Thanks Ali.
@@ynwa7062 .why is Tyson better when Tyson himself admits he could not in anyway have handled Muhammad Ali in his prime? Tyson was good, but Ali was the best.
There were others before Ali that did scientific boxing. However he had tools they didn't. Mainly a long reach that he mastered. He also had the speed of much lighter weight boxers along with very good stamina. However it would have been interesting to see him fight Rockey Marciano. His stamina was unmatched. Every punch he threw was a potential ko. And even in 15 rounds he never slowed down or quit throwing ko. punches.
🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾
lots of people say his greatest asset was the quick jab.. he closed a lot of eyes, thats for sure, what I admired most as his ability to fight while backing up . give it a try.. it is not easy.. he fought like he was on ice skates.
And, he escaped from some punches in mili-seconds. Almost landed, but didn't because he pulled away his face at the very last moment. This was part of the Ali genius.
Ali looked tired and unfit but got the decision because he picked him off at distance and covered up well in the clinches. A typical older Ali performance
Ali was simply the best ! Hand speed, footwork was flawless. Yes he wore down in his later years, but they were his later years. In his prime, no one was his equal! Beautiful to watch!
All due respect to Muhammad Ali may Allah be pleased with him, i am of the belief that Foreman was indeed the greatest and excelled where Muhammad Ali didnt. Lots of respect to Ali and his family.
Muhammed Ali'nin maçları, 50 yıl sonra hala izleniyor. Muhammed Ali olduğu için izleniyor. Bundan eminim. Yoksa... Bu kadar eski bir maçı, kim izler? O' müthiş bir adamdı ! 🌌 Nur içinde yat Ali. Seni seviyorum ❤️
Muhammad Ali knew his talent and he was so passionate about it that he risked his life for boxing just like Mike Tyson would say it and to be the greatest boxing of all time. I mean I don’t think anyone can ever take all those punches like he did. Man was focused. Takes me back to the Legend Michael Jackson he would tour and perform for 2 hours for many many concerts. These Legends really loved their work and would die for it. Are you willing to die for something you are passionate about and deliver to your fans ???
"For God so loved the world, that he sent his only begotten son, Jesus, that whoever believes on him shall not perish but have everlasting life. "For God did not send his son to condemn the world but to save it' John 3 : 16,17. These words are words that can lead us to God and everlasting life in Heaven. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" Romans 3 : 23 Jesus died on the cross , he died, bearing all of our sins, so that we may come to God the father , free of sin and when we die on earth, go to be with God and Jesus in heaven, forever. The alternative is to continue living a life away from the relationship of Jesus and after death, suffering eternal separation in Hell. Come to Jesus. "All that the father giveth me,shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" John 6 : 37 Come to Jesus I beg of you.
By 1977 Ali had already fought a long professional career in boxing. Muhammad Ali began his pro boxing career in 1960 in his first pro fight, by the end of 1963 he was 19 and 0. After beating 24-year-old George Foreman in 1974 I have no idea in the World what the hell Muhammad Ali is doing fighting at 35 years old in the heavyweight division after more than 17 years since his debut as a pro boxer. Ali should have retired in 1974. Ali regained the World Championship title beating Foremen by KO in the 8th round in Zaire Africa. Ali was then 45 and 2. Ali would win his next 10 fights going to 55 and 2 after beating Ernie Shavers. This should have been the end for Ali at 55 and 2. Shavers went the full 15 rounds with Ali in 1977. Ali won the fight and definitely should have retired after beating Shaver's leaving him with a 55 and 2 record in 1977. 1977 definitely should have been the end of boxing for Ali. Unfortunately for the now aging Ali it was not the end thus leaving his final fights after 1977 a mere shadow of his former youthful stamina, quickness and ability. Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick would humble Ali as after 1977 Ali by that time those fights occurred Ali was pushing up near 40 years old. The heavyweight division is a different thing than Floyd Mayweather fight weight. When Ernie Shavers punched you in your face, your family relatives felt the thud impact too!!!
Joe is totally correct in his analysis. Muhammad Ali, certainly should have retired after this bout in 1977, never going against Ernie Shavers. After the Ernie Shavers fight Fred Pacheco, Ali's longtime Doctor, after examining reports showing "Ali's Kidneys were falling apart," quit when nobody was listening to him. Alfredo Evangelista was only 23 years old in this fight, he went on to have a record of 78 fights 61 wins 41 Knockouts 13 Losses 4 Draws. He had enough hits in this fight where anyone looking could see Muhammad Ali should have been finished. Just to compare fighters: Muhammad Ali 61 Fights 56 Wins 37 Knockouts 5 Losses George Foreman 81 Fights 76 Wins 68 Knockouts 5 Losses Earnie Shavers 89 Fights 74 Wins 68 Knockouts 14 Losses 1 Draw Muhammad Ali was only 32 years old when he fought George Foreman. He took a lot of hits from strong heavyweights, and was great when Ali was younger. To me, when I compare records of Muhammad Ali with other Heavyweight Champions before him and after him, Muhammad Ali is the most over rated Boxer in my lifetime. I mean, Larry Holmes, Under rated compared to Ali, 75 Fights 69 Wins 44 Knockouts 6 Losses, at 31 years old, Muhammad Ali at almost 39 years old, clobbered Muhammad Ali in 1980. Very sad!
He should’ve finished after the Thrilla in Manilla. He needed to win the rubber match with Frazier. I know that fight hurt them both, but it needed to happen. It’s a shame the way the two them finished up, two absolute legends, warriors, reduced to shells of themselves. It’s great to see Big George still has all his faculties, despite the punishment he took in his comeback campaign.
I met him in St George’s Mall in Cape Town he asked me what my greatest wish would be , I said I wish my dad was here right now because he was your greatest fan ever. My dad lived for boxing and Ali was his hero.
Ali was simply in control of this guy, hitting him whenever he wanted. The Rope-A-Dope was an Ali trademark that robbed so many of their power from all their punching; launching bombs without landing anything of consequence. A great video, thanks for posting.
No boxer ever came close to replicate the greatest champion of the world, Mohammed Ali. Leaving behind invincible legacy that lasted for decades, Ali will always remain the universal champion of the world for many more generations of boxers to look up to.

Muhammad Ali is not only a good boxer but also the best trainer. He has a good art and capacity for boxing. He has a good discipline for boxing. All his good activities separated him from any Other players.

@@martincarey577 First of all, I ain't mexican and, talking about politics, I hate Donald Trump, but let's go back to the boxing subject. This isn't the first latino boxer that Ali have fought, just before his first fight against Joe Frazier, Ali fought against Oscar Bonavena, an argentine boxer, and after their fight Bonavena didn't say about Ali tricking him, was the opposite, Bonavena said how Ali was a true champion and he could defeat Frazier. P.S.: Below of USA isn't just Mexico, but I respect the fact that geography classes in USA aren't of the best quality.

The way Ali fought had some limitations as he got older and it shows in his 70s fights. Ali was extremely hard to hit in his prime, because of his incredibly, speed, reflexes and dazzling foot speed. As a result he never had to learn to slip punches in the classic way boxers do like Roberto, Duran, Wilfred Benitz, etc. Instead he would move his head backwards to avoid punches, which is a no no in boxing. In this way Ali was very unorthodox but still very effective, as he could get away with it because of his sheer talent. Thus his defensive skills at close range were never particularly good. He relied on covering up, and tying up his opponents. So when he was forced to fight at close range, in his later years, because his legs tired, and as his reflexes, slowed , he was vulnerable to getting hit. You even see it as early as the first Frazier fight. Ali was very hard to beat as long as he could keep moving constantly and staying out of range, but this style of fighting, gets much harder once, a fighter has aged a bit, and if he is not in perfect shape. Both these things affected Ali, as time went on. Increasingly he had trouble getting in shape, and would cut corners, in training, and this would affect his ability to dance, for 15 rounds in the classic Ali, style.
Yep. Ali's style of fighting is a young man's game. Like San Francisco Giants great Tim Lincecum. Just too difficult as you get older. So Ali wisely spent more time on the big bag to bring up his punching power. Before the Foreman fight he was doing that and sit ups at a 45 degree angle. In 1974 he would have taken out this bum in 4 maybe 5 rounds. Earlier than that, I doubt if the other guy would even want to fight him!
@@MegaMkmiller ali would’ve taken out this bum even in this fight. Ali was obviously playing too much, and making fun of the opponent. He gave away rounds on purpose. In the later rounds it was too late for a ko.
@@denissssss8579 Probably, yeah. Ali should've been retired by then. One way or another this ''fight'' was a joke. A sad thing to see for Ali fanatics like me.
@@tomhiggins4124 yep Tom…..all time! Ali came along in the early sixties and fought some real monsters! Watch his foot work, hand speed, body movements. He was so far ahead of his time, fighters are still trying to be like him, and he could throw a punch with the most efficient twist of his body I’ve ever seen. It didn’t come from the shoulder, it came from his feet!
@@lazysob2328 Tom, he could throw a punch but the punch didn't have much power. He slapped at the opponent. Of course I wouldn't want to get slapped with it, but power in the hook like, Marciano, Tyson, Tom Morrison, Shavers, Dempsey could lay a guy out. Then people with a jab like Sonny Liston, or Forman, could knock out anyone. Ali won many fights on points by staying away. The Listen fights were very questionable. Sonny appeared to not be in the game. Just didn't look right. Ali thought he hadn't even hit him in the second bout when Liston went down. And the ref stopped the fight. Ali the best ever, depends, he's probably the best defensive not get hit guy and win on points. But as far as brutal punching toe to toe I would rate Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson, Morrison, above.
Its been 45 years and i still remember my father taking me to the fight to the Capital Center in MD, i was 12 years old , i was so exited , know dad is gone and Ali is gone i wish i could turn time back.
So sad to see Ali in this state. There were several years of wars between the Rumble in the Jungle and this match. The deterioration of his agility, boxing skills, and athleticism is shocking compared to the masterclass of a match he had against George Foreman, only a few years earlier in 1974!
I'm a Ali fight fan and I totally agree with everything you said, but Ali sacrificed his health and his life to satisfy the people, the limelight was addicting to Ali it's all he knew, I saw a 60 minutes special when he was well into parkinson's and the host was showing vintage fights of him, he got up and walked away he didn't want to see it, I had to fight back my tears, but when the host asked him did he have any regrets, he said no he wouldn't change anything he did in the sport of boxing.
@@aladinsarsipeus Ali's fight Dr. Dr Ferdie Pacheco told Ali before the thrilla in manila fight with Joe Frazier that he was starting to slur when he spoke, and his hands had slight trembling but Ali being who he was ignored his Dr. And continued to fight, after the thrilla in manila his Dr .Dr Ferdie Pacheco resigned because he said he didn't want to be part of the unnecessary abuse Ali was taking in the ring and didn't have to, he should have retired with the failing health he had then.
Ali should have retired after the Manila fight. We are not all convinced that boxing caused his health degeneration.Other forces were at play. His greatest gift was his humanity and his gift of speech.Still its painful watching him in fights like this .Shavers shook him up a lot more than this guy who was KO'd in 7 by Holmes who too was great and from Ali's stable .RIP the GREATEST.
He was too broke to quit, having been swindled by The Nation of Islam in the 60s, and by Don King in the 70s. I agree that he should logically retired after the Thrilla - but he wasn't ready to give up being the Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Ali wasn't forced to continue fighting. His need to be in the spotlight overrode plain common sense. His health SHOULD have been a priority but when he was told by his personal physician Ferdie Pacheco that he needed to quit Ali fired the man. And YES boxing did in fact cause his condition. He took excessive punishment in many bouts after manilla which directly coincides with his rapid deterioration from the athlete he was in 1974 to the shell of himself he became by the time he fought Spinks. Also he took deliberate punishment in sparring to his body to as he ignorantly felt would " toughen" his organs. This was confirmed by members of his camp. Very foolish strategy. Once the organs deteriorate there's no turning back especially if you're putting them through routine Physical trauma. He took insane punishment in Manilla which aged him. He took punishment from Norton in Yankee Stadium. Took some hits from Lyle THEN Shavers. Then he took a battering from Spinks in their first bout. Add to this his tendency to let himself go in between fights and his personal vices and the poundings in sparring which should not be something an aging fighter engages in at thar point.
@@fitzgeraldanthony9333 I agree with all of this - Ali was showing early signs of Parkinsons while he was still competing. The 70s was a great era in the heavyweight division - and a great time to get the crap kicked out of you if you were trying to make a living in that division.
@@nolaanderson8770 Agreed. Its not coincidence that several of those men ended up with health problems after they retired and passed away at an age they should have been enjoying the fruits of their labor.
The Honourable Muhammad Ali, A boxer who's like, never will be seen again, he was capable of ending his matches, maybe in the first rounds, but he kept playing with the various boxer's, showing them respect and not wanting to belittle them, he often continued playing along for many rounds, until he felt that the viewing public had got their money's worth, and that the opponent had also felt respected and also comfortable to continue their boxing career's. It's my thought, that all of those lucky enough to have boxed him or had witnessed him with their own eye's and listened to him walk the walk, and talk the talk, must now feel very privileged to have seen a once in a lifetime legend, and must also feel special and maybe even legend's themselves for having seen him or lucky enough to have heard him talk, pearl's of wisdom! Our loss upon losing a legend and our privilege to have witnessed him ourselves, by seeing him close up on TV! Rest in peace, Muhammad Ali, may Allah's Mercy and Grace be upon you, as you await The Awakening from your slumber, for The Day of Judgment, for which we all from Adam and Eve to The Last person to die, shall gather for 'The Qayamat' also known as The Day of Judgment or Reckoning, to answer for a minute by minute account of all good and bad that we did in our so many years of living!
I noticed that too, way to many unnecessary punches , and in this highlight reel his opponent definitely gave more power punches than Ali and you could see Ali knew he clowned around to many rounds he started to become more aggressive but to me it is was a lil to late He definitely won that fight on his name alone.,
Either that killer instinct was lost or Ali thought to entertain the audience who had paid for all the 14 rounds 😂 He was too gentle and playful and unnecessarily took the blows 😢
Ali told in one interview that his intention was to win a boxing fight and not to injur or kill his opponent. You would notice the number of times in his career that he was pleading with the referee to stop the fight because he feared for the safety of his opponents - Buster Mathis, Jerry Quarry........
Well, considering what is happening in mma, not that we became more concerned. But he obviously took way too many punches for too many years. It destroyed the great human being and entertainer he was. Or how glory has got its limits.
Everyone loved Ali, so he won a lot of his later fights because of that. Guy had charisma!! He was still clowning around. He was playing to the crowd. I still liked watching him even though he didn`t have it anymore. He would have killed that opponent in the 60`s, not even a close fight.
Ali looked tired and haggard. You could see the lack of hand speed and punching power. I honestly believe that at this point in Ali’s life he was beginning to exhibit signs of Parkinson’s. By the time he fought Larry Holmes in 1980, Ali was in full onset Parkinson’s, which was why Ali looked so terrible in the ring. Any fight expert will tell you that Ali never should have been in the ring, and for his corner to let him get beat so badly was truly pathetic and disgraceful. Ali should have never went out that way.
Surprisingly in Ali very last fight against Trevor Berbick he went the distance 12 rounds. Of course it wasn’t the same Ali we all knew, but I was shocked he went the distance.
Evangelista went 15 rounds with Ali, and then proceeded to win his next 9 fights. He was starting to have delusions that he could be a top heavyweight................... then he fought Larry Holmes.
Actually this was the result of how boxer's were treated by Muhammad Ali, with respect at all times, if that's what they gave him initially! Boxer's had renewed vigour after going in the ring with a legend!
That was 2 and 3 years after Ali beat Foreman and Frazier, I had the greatest admiration for Ali and Frazier but, I think Joe only had 2 more professional fights after he fought Ali in Manilla, yet Ali fought many more yrs and xs! AND he was dancing around in this fight and vs Dunne like the Ali of old!!🙂and when u consider Ali said .'Joe n me went to Manilla as champions, but, we both came back as old men!'☹ and Frazier spent over 5 weeks in intensive care after Manilla, and 4 weeks in intensive care after him and Ali's 1st fight of the century in NY!! AND!! I'm not taking 1 THING away from either man!! Because they both had lion hearts!! AND became the best of friends, in later yrs!! I remember Ali holding Joe's hand in a beautiful photo a few yrs before Joe Died!!☹Joe had a walking stick, and Ali was shaking and his Alzheimer's was realllly starting to get the best of him, hence it was a very bitter sweet photo!

I think Ali should have retired After defeating Frazer. The injury he took in his last battles, especially the one against Holmes, somehow played a major role in his death, according to Hollywood Autopsy doctors. He should have retired sooner.
@@armandovarela5830, this isn't heroic, it is tragic and it was a terrible choice. Using touching quotes won't change anything. Yea that punching backwards schtick was surprisingly affective. He could snap, drive & push off with his jabs with either hand as well as a right lead, which was kinda taboo in the day. It wasn't thought to be effective before Ali. His dancing was initially looked down on as well. The guy was a trend setter in so many ways its ridiculous. He just loved to prove traditionalist wrong & he even did it with his mouth. My dad was a boxer & couldn't stand him at first. He only watched to see him get beat up, but instead he'd make my dad laugh while he beat up everyone. Ali was a Phenom in mind, body & spirit. There's been plenty who tryed to emulate him, but they never could copy the whole package.

Thanks Ali.
Every word you wrote in praise of GOAT, Ali is true and touches my heart .
Tyson better💪
@@ynwa7062 .why is Tyson better when Tyson himself admits he could not in anyway have handled Muhammad Ali in his prime?
Tyson was good, but Ali was the best.
Well said agreed 👍🏻
There were others before Ali that did scientific boxing. However he had tools they didn't. Mainly a long reach that he mastered. He also had the speed of much lighter weight boxers along with very good stamina. However it would have been interesting to see him fight Rockey Marciano. His stamina was unmatched. Every punch he threw was a potential ko. And even in 15 rounds he never slowed down or quit throwing ko. punches.

lots of people say his greatest asset was the quick jab.. he closed a lot of eyes, thats for sure, what I admired most as his ability to fight while backing up . give it a try.. it is not easy.. he fought like he was on ice skates.
And, he escaped from some punches in mili-seconds. Almost landed, but didn't because he pulled away his face at the very last moment. This was part of the Ali genius.
Mohamed Ali is a GOAT of boxing for ever and I ask Allah to give you his mercy and paradise

Live with passion
Just to compare fighters: Muhammad Ali 61 Fights 56 Wins 37 Knockouts 5 Losses
George Foreman 81 Fights 76 Wins 68 Knockouts 5 Losses
Earnie Shavers 89 Fights 74 Wins 68 Knockouts 14 Losses 1 Draw
Muhammad Ali was only 32 years old when he fought George Foreman.
Very sad!
Ali was the greatest athlete of the 20th Century.
Good breakdown, I must say...
He was destroyed by his own ego.
I met him in St George’s Mall in Cape Town he asked me what my greatest wish would be , I said I wish my dad was here right now because he was your greatest fan ever. My dad lived for boxing and Ali was his hero.
Black peoples were his greatest fans

@@lazysob2328 Even Tyson said Ali was the best, now that is saying something.

Great show boxe, great fight 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Ali on-ed his energy saving mode
Either that killer instinct was lost or Ali thought to entertain the audience who had paid for all the 14 rounds 😂
He was too gentle and playful and unnecessarily took the blows 😢
Ali told in one interview that his intention was to win a boxing fight and not to injur or kill his opponent.
You would notice the number of times in his career that he was pleading with the referee to stop the fight because he feared for the safety of his opponents - Buster Mathis, Jerry Quarry........
Being able to take a punch was Ali's enemy in the end ....he took too much punishment...15 rounds ...hard to believe it was allowed looking back now
Well, considering what is happening in mma, not that we became more concerned. But he obviously took way too many punches for too many years. It destroyed the great human being and entertainer he was. Or how glory has got its limits.
Go back a bit further .
Fights could last for many hours .
Astonishing stamina
Ali is so funny!, the facial expressions he makes and taunting his opponets is just hilarious!
I didn't realize the fighter Evangelista was. Nice video.
Im not disputing Alis talent but after watching I don't think he should have one that one

Larry Holmes in his prime might be the best ever.
Yeah, and Hispanic boxers are never good enough. They always have one that they put as their best, and then Mayweather destroys them.
Ali gifted boxer strong chain, body,stamina,speed... complete figther...smart boxer.
Best fight ever!great show.
My heart goes out to three Mighty Boxing Brothers MA, JP and GF. Just love to see them box. They were still very best friends after boxing career 💪💪💪💪🇵🇬
@ImDxmron I apologise for writing Alzheimer's my friend, I knew he had Parkinson's disease and I didn't realise I'd accidentally written Alzheimer's until u bought it to my attention, So thanks for pointing it out. All the best to u and Your loved ones.
I think Ali should have retired After defeating Frazer. The injury he took in his last battles, especially the one against Holmes, somehow played a major role in his death, according to Hollywood Autopsy doctors. He should have retired sooner.
He died doing what he loved to do... @@reaven0498
@@armandovarela5830, this isn't heroic, it is tragic and it was a terrible choice. Using touching quotes won't change anything. The fact remains that He had nothing to prove after beating Joe Frazer and George Foreman. He should have retired once his health started to be affected by Parkinson. He could have lived longer and spent more time with his family.
Wow just imagine if he had not lost three and a half years cause he didn't fight in the Vietnam War In the Boxing Ring to long to make up for those Years The Greatest Of All Times

Ali once said that was the toughest fight he'd ever fought " the man was like a bull"!!
Well thats why Ali list this fight he took most puches Evangelista went to work on him from biggining to the end.
Frazier was
@@onlythewise1 yea .. Both are near to dead
The only reason that's the toughest fight was because Ali was in his WORST condition. LOL

I love boxing and my favorite are
Ali and Tyson and m God bless them both
And Ali was amazing. But I don’t think the rope a dope would have worked with Tyson. His body shots were murderous!
@@davidking9854 May be not, but the Clay of 67would have anihalated Tyson and would have mentally crippled him for life, see the aftermath for Liston😂. If you're going to put him against the rope a dope Ali of 1974, then just watch how that ended for Foreman . He admitted to quitting boxing, going around preaching (changing his religion!) And not being able to sleep for the next 10 years, after the Rumble in the Jungle! 😂😂😂😁
And osama binladin too
Yea that punching backwards schtick was surprisingly affective. There's been plenty who tryed to emulate him, but they never could copy the whole package.
was spectacular, keeping the show till the last round although he could finish it in the first round... wonderfull vocation in entertainment.

Muhammed Ali The Legend His fights are always interesting to Watch
Vi ganar a Evangelista abiertamente.
