Sony ZV-E1: A Warning Shot To Canon, Panasonic and A7S III Users

- Sony ZVE1, new vlogging camera, full frame with same specs as the Sony A7S III and FX3. Is this fair? Will A7S III users ever get the more advanced specs of the budget models? How does it compare to the competition. Canon R8 is much cheaper, lighter, but only 4k 60p vs 120p. HD 180p vs 240p in the Sony. It's close. Panasonic S5 II sure looks dated already huh? 4k 60p with aps-c crop, and HD 180p no autofocus for only $200 less than the ZVE1? Ouch.

@@planetfun85 i dont want to vouch for sony but they loaned Gerald a copy so they technically do accept critics. Its just whether or not they actually take the criticism and address it.
Some camera brands (like Canon) don’t always loan out to people like Gerald/Bloom who do objective research on cameras bc they’re afraid of the backlash from criticism.

I have a Sony A7S3 and I want to get a Sony ZV-E1, the name hurts me physically, I think it's the cheapest way to update my A7S3 though. Oh yeah, this was no doubt the best review I saw of the ZV-E1 today, and I watched all of them as I wasn't invited to the Sony Camp 😂

@@Dar1usz Better autofocus, clear image zoom = you can use crop lenses for example 11mm f1.8, better menu system (real touch screen), better stabilisation.
@@Dar1usz It looks like tourist camera, so you can get pro footage in places where it's not "allowed".
@Broskisnowski Yeah, it will have 4K120. I haven't actually ever turned on stabilisation in my A7S3, can we do that? I got it as I thought it would make me a better videographer, that's a word right?

I am honestly gobsmacked that Sony has completely abandoned firmware updates to the A1 and more importantly, the A7s iii. If I would have known that there would not be any upgrades - especially when they are handing them out like trick or treating candy to their newer AND CHEAPER cameras, I would have invested in a Nikon. As funny as Casey makes this issues, as a person who paid top dollar with the belief that the A7s iii, at that price, would get updated , it's a real travesty that they are bending us over and laughing about it. My Sony purchases will definitely cease after this new slap in the face. It's ridiculous.

What more can Sony do to the A7s ? The camera has everything already at top specs. Firmware is done to fix a bug or improve a feature. The Sony a7s iii is a top range camera. If you use your Sony for client work then the price is worth it. If its used for vlogging and nothing more then its over price.

6:02 I think sony never intended for the zv-e1 to have 4k-120fps, but they were forced to update it because canon released the r8 for $1500 with 4k-60fps, with electronic viewfinder and mechanical shutter

Jason Morris showed the Dynamic crop factor is only 31%. Also, it’s possibly the first Sony you may want to use clear image zoom as it’s suppose to still have full AF ability

Could a camera company be successful producing a modular, upgradeable camera similar to what 'Framework' is doing with laptops? It could have the equivalent of Android operating system (for cameras) and an app store, then the future profit would be in purchasing the modules when improvements are available or a subscription service for constant software upgrades. There may never be enough demand for such an approach but I wish that one of them would at least offer an open, customizable GUI & OS.
You think that is bad. Try being a 1dx3 owner. Boy we got hosed. $6500 camera bested by just about anything Canon makes now, but I feel your pain.

The reality of situation is, I was thinking of s5 ii or r8 but now sony is in the races again. And they know that.
But the number of youtubers (owners of a7s3) hurt and cant keep from bringing it up in every review and just irritate! We all wanted this. And people flipping from “camera industry so slow” to “oh my old expensive camera” is just a bit hypocritical imo.
If active stabilization is an apsc crop does that mean I can use APSc lens and get extra crop ?
That's my theory, it's essential an aps-c camera but with super stabilization.
Do these new features only work with Sony lenses?
Are you sure ZV-E1 doing 4k120? Cause most of reviews say ... it will do after the firmware update only in S&Q mode ...

I know tech moves on but as someone who recently just bought the a7iv this really grinds my gears. I have the s5 and I think it might be time to move back to Panasonic and get the s5ii. Its been fun Sony but this shiat is ridiculous
