- Sony A7S III is one of those cameras that come along every decade or so, that just seem to stand up to the test of time. Sony outclasses much higher priced cinema cameras in image quality, and when you factor in usability with autofocus and active stabilization, size, prices lenses etc. It will be tough to be the A7S III or FX3 for cinematic video.

To be fair, that thing was above 4000€ at release when even the X-H2S is "only" at 2.7K, it better be great at that price range lol and it's "only" 12megapixels, which makes it great for low light but less interresting for photo.
And if you compare it with the fuji x-t4 well it's around 1700€... so yeah less than half the price ^^
Fuji is actually worse than Sony, poor build quality, lots of errors. Focusing issues. I need to sell my xt-4

I heard that high pitched hiss, I will describe it in details.
- The hiss was rather prominent whenever you accelerated on that one wheeler.
- When you stopped on the one wheeler the hiss went away.
- It reduced when you moved your head or did something like that
- in your studio(home) it went away completely.
I have a theory, either that hiss occured because of the air when you were riding or may be magnets in the one wheeler were causing it. It can happen.
In fact, I had to reduce the volume in order to not annoy me ears.
Yea, I hear it as well and find it rather annoying. End up skipping the video entirely as I can't stand the sound. Guaranteed to be the one wheeler.

I’ve been using Z Cam since their first camera and was an early adopter of the E2. I’m glad to answer any questions you have and to help save some time!
For starters, the 160p 4k mode is great - but the catch is that it’s 2.39:1 aspect ratio instead of 16:9 or 17:9. 120 fps is the maximum at those ratios. The con is that you lose some resolution, but the pro is that you will gain SO MUCH cinema with the wide screen and frame rate!
Another is that there is some automatic exposure available. I’ve used automatic iso in the past along with manually setting aperture and shutter speed. It works fine, but it will be stepped (vs Sony who does it steplessly).
I think there’s also a 1080p crop mode that will get you a bit more reach (but I’d have to double check). It can do 240fps and the quality is pretty nice.

Absolutely. I used to wanting to upgrade cameras every year. Pre-ordered the A7S3 on the day it launched, and never bothered to replace it ever since. IMO it's a perfect camera (I could nitpick the IBIS, but honestly it's alright)
i had a choice between a7s3 and a R6. Got the R6, never looked back. Never overheated, never needed to record for over 30min either. Not gonna switch any time soon!
Sony A7S III is miracle. Outstanding and super clean/clear video. Especially if using the Sony GM lens.
Incredibly insightful video my friend. Day after x-h2 was announced I decided to partx my xt3 and xt4 for a7siii with a caviat that I might return to Fuj one day. All your observations in this video are exactly what I thought. As for a7siii - I am simply mindblown, what a camera.

I have the FX3. Its basically an A7SIII that lives in a brutalist condo block and drives a Saab. I do love it.
I came from using an a6400 and later on a GH5.
It isn't the best, but it does a lot less wrong with a lot less faffing about than a lot of its rivals. I'm ok with giving up the margins to hit the center.
I just did a graffiti tour with it yesterday, it turned out great.

hey does your a7sIII or the fx3 have a spot on your sensor? it looks like little rings right in the center of the censor and appears after the camera gets a little warm.
@@winterkat8693 No such defect over here. I'll absolutely have to keep an eye out for that though. You can take a look at some of my uploads to see if you spot something I don't.

@@winterkat8693 It has to have been a one-off. I haven't heard of a lot of defects or pattern failures with the units in the wild. You know how the internet amplifies.

as a long time fan of the fujj 16mm 1.4 i have to say the 18mm has replaced it in almost every way. The only time i would go back to the 16 is if i need a rack focus because of the linear focus clutch. I have been having a great time with the x-h2s but im also not doing vlogging with it.

I'm still learning mine, but I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. Honestly I couldn't believe how ugly I was after I saw myself in 4k, so thanks Sony for helping me to realize how many flaws I have to fix. I miss the custom video styles of the XT-4, but using LUT's afterwards is a decent fix in post to play around with. Do you primarily shoot PP8/SLOG3?

Common knowledge that the a7iv has tweaked color science and sharper image. Even the a7iii has a slightly sharper 4k image than the a7siii due to its downsampling from 7k

Tempted by the Z-Cam E2S6, as you pointed out it has no stabilization, the A7S III many not be "perfect" but it will definitely do what I need.
As a hybrid camera, I will take the excellent performance of the X-H2s and the increased MP of the Fuji. Also, there are recommended settings that make the 240 slow motion shooting work well.
Test gh6 and gh5 ii. Let's all go to Camera Canada.

the high pitch noise is still there... just fyi as we age, we can no longer hear certain high-pitched noises as well as we did during our youth hence why you might not hear it. It is annoying to younger listeners though... you might wanna cut down the high frequency using a low-pass filter at 10kHz

Kasey, how about checking out the new Black Magic cameras with Gyroscopic data? I appreciate you hate catalyst browse and its extra workflow, the BM cameras use a very similar type process in Resolve but damn, the camera picture quality is quite impressive. Could be true cinematic magic...

I wanted the 4-channel sound, and slow motion. I should have waited for the FX3, as the XLR handle attaches securely, like on camcorders. A7S III I would have liked more in a camcorder. But cripple hammer. Camcorders can't be this good, and cine cams have to cost more.
- I'm getting intermittent screen black outs. Happens when the camera gets warm, used harder.
Of all the gear at your disposal what would you expect to be the best for filming fireworks? Have you ever tried this out, I imagine after dynamic range, the ability to capture at slower framerates with clear sharp resolution would be key.

Love the Sonys, especially the A1, they only lack in anamorphic modes. No de sqeeze or proper anamorphic stabilization, that’s why we still keep a GH6 around.
Use External monitor with anamorphic desqueeze option.

The only thing the a7siii needs is a better screen. I wish Sony would come out with an a1 with a flippy screen that was worth a damn and somewhere between 12-20mp. Same a1 guts/internals

You probably need better headphones to hear the high pitch sound. Try some Sennheiser HD800 headphones. Their optimum studio headset is a great tuned option to really rank up your audio skill.

Hey Kasey. Looking for a hybrid to use alongside my BMPCC (1080p ver). I will use it for filmmaking and for stills.
I'd like 10 bit 422, definitely good AF and good IBIS. I have two Sigma EF lenses that I don't mind adapting as long as AF is usable. I've considered many options like GX80, G9, GH5, S5, XS10, XT4 etc. I almost got the XS10, but I didn't because it doesn't have 10 bit and it doesn't seem like AF and IBIS is reliable enough. Same goes for XT4, which is a bit on the high side of my budget and still only offers 4:2:0 10 bit. GH5 seems like the best option, but I just don't want another 2x crop in my life and I want the AF to be actually reliable. A7SIII and A7IV checks these boxes, but they're just too expensive for me. What do you think would be a good cheaper option?

Just as you said there was a high pitch I realized that It might not be my tinnitus acting up more than usual. Low and behold it was in fact you video :(
May be each camera with tally lights and a fat red frame on the screen that indicates the you are actually recording is better than a camera where you miss the shot.

Sad A7SII/FX3 had color issues green/yellow rolloff is terrible. It was fixed on the A7IV.

I wonder if the wireless mic and the wireless skateboard controller have anything to do with the high frequency noise 🤔
Maybe do a test without the wireless mic or without the skateboard and see if it goes away 🤔

Just get it. I’ve had it a couple years and just got the A7iv as a B cam also thinking I’d use that feature all the time with the 35mm gm. I haven’t used it once lol so if that’s holding you back don’t let it.
Focus breathing comp. would be nice but you actually just need it on focus pulling. You do that 1% of time usually. You can have a lens with no fb specifically for that. I use a7siii with 20mm f1.8 and fb not noticable as people complain. Unless again you do focus pulling (who does that on 20mm). 35-200 focus pulling most fun

@@lucasliaskos i bought it and never looked back. Any alternativrs I am interested besides a7s would be double the price (a1 or fx6) but i better invest that into glass as i did for 16-35gm and 20mm g as of right now. Also it has amazing viewfinder. I find it very useful at summer during video. Its the cqmera that has more features then you actually use and you sometimes randomly stumbles upon those features and you are like: oh wow that a nice feature! I am going to use it too. Didn't even know it was in software package!
Fb comp. As i said can be nice but I really don't want sony to go lazy on their new lens design (as they did with distortion comp. On some new lenses) and make them new designed lenses not stay in frame when focusing. It should be cared out by design and fbc more as a backup solution. 20mm is forgivable just because it is extremely small and has sharpest corners i ever seen. If they tried to make it with no fb it would have been bigger and not a lot would be interested

@@turgs1 slow firing, focus takes too long kinda thing. A pro needs to be able to push the button and get a photo. I’ve never used that Nikon so I’m not sure but most Nikon / Canon are fine.
Can't disagree at all. I tried to save for A7S3 but it turns out to be too expensive for me considering the lens, memory cards, filters etc that has to be bought with it. Can I ask what backpack you are using with the chest strap?

Didn't realize there was a firmware update for our lovely A7Siii's..... looked up the release notes and it is close to a useless and featureless update 😢 give us the focus mapping, breathing compensation, shutter cover sensor thing for swapping lenses SONY 😢

I own a lot of cameras, and the A7S3 is the best. The auto exposure is probably the best feature that people don’t talk about. The Auto focus on it is excellent too. It’s expensive, but we’ll worth the money. The other great Sony camera that I have is the ZV1. It’s basically a miniature version of the A7S3. Most of the time I have it mounted on a Crane M2 gimbal, and if I need to vlog, I put on a Ulanzi wide angle lens on it. If you can’t afford an A7S3, get a ZV1 until you can.

Been eyeing the new Sony phone since a lot of places I go to dont allow cameras but almost everywhere lets you record with phones, sensor size will always be a limitation of course but the tech is amazing these days with all the focal lengths and software. You boast about the (whawhey) have you tried any Sony phones and thoughts for vlogging?
3:27 - no, it was great, cos it was produced in real life scenario with all it's challanges. It also proved the camera was released prematurely without extensive testing, something that happens a lot more often lately and not just in cameras - electronic instruments are in the same boat when we buy a gadget and the first thing we do is to WAIT for the firmware UPDATE.

The GH6 has the glory as well, but to think a full frame A7siii does it as well, and the cherry on top is that I can comfortably film with 4K 60 as A-Roll to have slow mo just in case, and doesn’t even need a fan….. not in love with the controls however it’s my “safe space” camera.
After a while using the A7SIII, it became clear this camera is so much better than its user.

I actually bought one from Vistek, and returned it the next day and traded in for the A7siii.
I guess that I get it on the R5 because it tries to do too much, but why oh why on the R6?
