I heard that the S5ii doesn't have USB-C streaming, though it may be possible through the HDMI to a Cam Link. I don't know for sure, though. I think the S5iiX does allow USB-C streaming. Maybe I'm using the wrong word. Web-cam? Is web-cam the same as streaming? Putting a video/audio signal directly to the computer.
Love your stuff. but yeah there's not a lot of $2000-2300 cameras that will do Prores, Prores RAW, etc in camera. Even if you could, SD cards are ridiculously inefficient in terms of both storage space and price for anything past H264/H265. So i don't really think it's fair to criticize that. After all, for most of the main mirrorless cams in this price range in recent years, you'd need an external recorder AND SSD to do that kinda stuff anyway. Personally i'd rather have the option to record to an SSD i have lying around. I know you're being dramatic, but you don't need a $200-300 SSD to record anyway. You can get old samsung NVMEs that are like 512GB with an enclosure for like...$60 all in? 1TB SSDs, you don't need the fastest ones, virtually any modern SSD is more than capable of those bitrates. I'd much rather just pony up for an SSD than pay whatever the hell they charge for massive SD cards that are also uber fast if i need that kind of data rate. Truth is that the VAST majority of people are just fine shooting like 100-150mbps H264 and still getting amazing results. Even for paid work it's rarely worth going over that unless it's actually high end. And if you're doing work that really warrants ProRes or RAW, you are basically expected to rig things out regardless, even just to make corporate clients make you think you're 'worth the money'. The flexibility this camera offers is fantastic.
3:04 yes I was testing the s5 II two days ago and had the same "issue" the zoom on the 20-60 is pretty stiff or how you wanna call it. It's the opposite of smooth.
The way I look a the S5 vs S5II is they are in a completely different price bracket of camera. S5 is at an optimal price to performance level for full frame, the S5II starts heading towards competing with the above optimal camera range, and it's price for the small feature bump shows it. Pani boy is definatelly a winner here as a best hybrid camera - ZVE1 is trash in photo, 12 mpx, no pixel shift. Yess, 4k 120 is nice, but with all the e stab you still get a crop. R8 has the best 4k 60, no crop, but 0 stab + you need to watch out for overheating.
Apparently Sigma and Leica lenses are not third party for Lumix cameras, Sean from Lumix USA was explaining that in one of his videos. That's a whole point of L-mount alliance.
That Panny is just incredible. The things you are mentioning - vloggers so many times - 99 % of people are going to record in 60fps no matter what. Imo whats most important for a vlogger is stabilisation, and hands on, there is probably no camera with better IBIS in this price range than this one. The options for amateur filmographers are there as well with that huge selection of codecs (SSD tho, but you want to use that anyway if doing filmmaking). The only real hit this camera gets is that crop while recording, but sharpness, color science and stabilisation are way over its price league.
I dont mind a crop every time, usually prefer, but what is the quality loss as I see Lumix crop gets better quality when cropping but that was just 2 videos
I find it humorous that you can buy the FX3, a cinema camera, and not have prores (because you don’t have a Ninja), no shuttter angle and only 16:9 and 17:9 recording, or buy the S5IIX and Ninja and rig it for the same price as the FX3. The S5IIX isn’t really the best vlogging or videography camera but has far more standard cinema features.
😅 I've known for a while that you have this channel but this is my first time watching it. I've been an event videographer for about 20 years. But I've evolved into more documentary style stuff and never rigged a camera before. But I just bought an FX30 and started rigging it up. Ever since I got a cage and v mount I've been experimenting with different monitors, trying different handles, even got a Ronan RS3 pro and thinking about adding it to the cage and handles all crazy, saving up to get the FX3 but holding off well I learn on the FX30 in hopes they will upgrade it which has to be coming please!!!!
Buuudy!!! been awhile and Im still laughing. Love your content cracks me up. If you are ever in Calgary and want to go for a beer give me shout would be a blast to hang out!! Cheers my friend and all I want is the perfect camera as well haha!!
Disagree. The value for a video shooter--the S5iiX can't be beat. I wouldn't trade it for an A7sIII, a camera that won't even do DCI. You call that video?!?!? Not I! The Panasonic hand held look is MAGIC! BEST VAUE on the market.
Dude, for the BRAW you need the Video Assist, not the Ninja Atomos. For birds you dont need BRAW. But that prores option on the S5iix is the one to shoot at. I am actually suprised you went for that OG BMCC and not the Sigma FP. It probably cost and weight the same, but the Sigma kill it. And it can shoot raw internally. Thats right! The panny looks amazing allthough its a bit souless. Would wait to see what Leica would bring instead of the SL2-S (a remake of the panny).
A 500gb cf express card is almost double the price of just a Samsung t7 SSD of the same capacity. Plus just a cold shoe mounted SSD holder for a few bucks. So this solution is actually cheaper to run if you wanna shoot in ProRes. So what’s the big issue?
OMG 😂 I have tears in my eyes dude, I still cant stop laughing, catching that tip over on camera was epic beyond epic, we've all done it (sort of) my god the comedy of unintentional errors is the best comedy. Made my day man cheers.
Have you tried the 180fps on the r6ii or r8? Is it any better? I sold my Fuji for a z9, then blew out my knee and dropped it in the lake 🤦♂️ on the hunt for a cheaper replacement. Going to shoot the sigma 60-600 with it, have to assume canon’s autofocus makes the difference here?
S-35 prime or the s18 depends how wide you want to go. the primes looks so freaking good. This video he isn’t using a prime but the zoom and it’s not as good as the primes
I'll take having to use a cage, that I would already be putting on the camera anyway, to hold an SSD, over having to pay over 50 cents per gigabyte for a CF express card. Best Buy, as of this writing, has a San Disk usb C 4Tb SSD for $250. Insane price difference. Worth the cage, cable and mount imo.

Pani boy is definatelly a winner here as a best hybrid camera - ZVE1 is trash in photo, 12 mpx, no pixel shift. Yess, 4k 120 is nice, but with all the e stab you still get a crop. R8 has the best 4k 60, no crop, but 0 stab + you need to watch out for overheating.
btw, you absolutely need to do more 'commentary' stuff. Very entertaining and funny.
Apparently Sigma and Leica lenses are not third party for Lumix cameras, Sean from Lumix USA was explaining that in one of his videos. That's a whole point of L-mount alliance.
I've only ever seen an example of a Panasonic S5 with Sigma 150-600mm and it was shaky as hell.
@@cameraconspiracies ah, these representatives 🤣
don't shoot the messenger Casey, don't shoot.
The Sony X3000 had a ton of artifacts in the 240fps mode, while the Pannyboy was nice and clean at 180fps.
Legend ❤
Gets all cameras for free from camera companies. Complains about all camera companies 😂
Enjoying all the content... more confused than ever... but happy.
I have heard that those Panny lenses are stiff new and loosen up with a but of use
I have an S5ii with the 20-60 and the 70-300 and both zoom and focus really smoothly - you've not been playing on a sandy beach have you?
Lovely video man. what about the AF in still photos for action / wild life?
The Black Magic made you look like you have a sun burn. Pany looks great, but the GH6 looked better, especially in slow-mo.
What about Canon EOS M 14bit RAW with ML crop mood?
😅 I've known for a while that you have this channel but this is my first time watching it. I've been an event videographer for about 20 years. But I've evolved into more documentary style stuff and never rigged a camera before. But I just bought an FX30 and started rigging it up. Ever since I got a cage and v mount I've been experimenting with different monitors, trying different handles, even got a Ronan RS3 pro and thinking about adding it to the cage and handles all crazy, saving up to get the FX3 but holding off well I learn on the FX30 in hopes they will upgrade it which has to be coming please!!!!
Hello. Please let us know if Lumix S5IIX has PDAF in 1080p frame rates from 24 to 120 FPS.
Hi. When are you planning to post a Z8 review?
20:54 When you look how the wood is flickering in the pan-movement.
Is that a result of the rolling shutter?
The picture is so turbulent.
was just in the middle of a gerald video but i had to tune in
Just rewatched this.. and the wildlife footage is actually magical! (Panasonic) colours are real :D
Buuudy!!! been awhile and Im still laughing. Love your content cracks me up. If you are ever in Calgary and want to go for a beer give me shout would be a blast to hang out!! Cheers my friend and all I want is the perfect camera as well haha!!
S5IIX really is beautiful
Disagree. The value for a video shooter--the S5iiX can't be beat. I wouldn't trade it for an A7sIII, a camera that won't even do DCI. You call that video?!?!?
Not I!
The Panasonic hand held look is MAGIC!
BEST VAUE on the market.
Can’t wait for your V10 thoughts!
The starling shot is beautiful! :)
Loved the interface in black magic but hated to color grading aspect
A 500gb cf express card is almost double the price of just a Samsung t7 SSD of the same capacity. Plus just a cold shoe mounted SSD holder for a few bucks. So this solution is actually cheaper to run if you wanna shoot in ProRes. So what’s the big issue?
OMG 😂
I have tears in my eyes dude, I still cant stop laughing, catching that tip over on camera was epic beyond epic, we've all done it (sort of) my god the comedy of unintentional errors is the best comedy.
My s5iix is on the way....using for my YT live channel....what lens would be your recommendation?
S-35 prime or the s18 depends how wide you want to go. the primes looks so freaking good. This video he isn’t using a prime but the zoom and it’s not as good as the primes
Panasonic should do something for that colours: it always give that "sandy beige" rendition that really put me off.
The Reds ar really weird
Yo!
A very nice review. Fresh and fun way to do it! Cheers Mate!
The return of the sacred Sony X3000! Looked fantastic! Panasonic I applaud you! Looks great too!
Have you tried the CineLikeD2 profile? That’s my favorite when I don’t want to mess with vlog on my S5.
Sadly, the Pannys are limited to 2TB SSDs. I use several with my GH6 and now I have the S5 IIX on the way.
Man you need to try R8 + rf 100-400mm it would be fun . Althought the fun only last for 30 minutes lol
That FHD180 footage looks horrible. What happened, did you use the lowest bit rate setting?
Why do I start chuckling within 5 seconds of your videos...?
Love your mapFE
Nice thumbnail! Hahahaha had to click on it no matter what! Love your videos anyway!
