- I think the Sony A7S III still holds up as the best all around camera for video. Best full frame mirrorless when you factor everything in, slow motion, autofocus, stabilization, lenses. It could use some firmware updates, but Sony hates us. Who will beat the A7S III for video? Camera after camera has been release all last year, and none of them are flat out beating this 2 year old camera.
Will Nikon z8 do it? Canon R1 will be way overpriced. r5 ii? Panasonic s5 ii was nice, but not a7s iii level. Maybe the s1h ii? OM System will supply the sushi. Fuji has no flagships coming this year, probably just entry level stuff. Will Sony themselves beat it?

Because we live in a simulation, the next upgrade from an A7S III will be an AI-driven smartphone. Every middle schooler will have one. Phase 5 Marvel movies will all be shot and edited on it.
if Panasonic releases all their future cameras with new phase autofocus with reasonable price range, it might challenge Sony and Canon for the top slot of camera sales. This is because it will attract loyal followers in both their full-frame cameras and smaller MFT cameras. Plus Panasonic has very good lenses in both proprietary and third parties, not to mention the company's readiness in releasing firmware updates
@@bbasleigh6149 seems like you are judging from photography viewpoint. Everything about hybrid or video-centric screams sony, panasonic and now nikon. Fuji became weird guy in this block. Canon is great but it seems like photography in their hybrids is still best selling point. Their closed mirrorless mount ecosystem makes panasonic looks even better way now because owners of ef canon glasses can use adapter with all features plus native l glasses
@@bbasleigh6149 this is cool guy in its class. i didn't say it is bad guy. Everything they did in aps-c prior 40mp is great. I call it weird in hybrid class. If you love this system - fine. Casey did a lot comparisons of xt-4 with other systems in this regard. Fuji niche is very solid, but I was taking about hybrid systems on general. Other brands are integrating their hybrids on lineups of pro-grade videocameras. Of course if you are photography-first person you will have completely different views on these things
@@bbasleigh6149 pretty much my thoughts. Sony has a lot to offer but a lot of buts. This makes their abundance of choices unnecessarily complicated compared to pretty much any other FF system. I too sympathize with Lumix S. Their situation is comparable to Sony's ~5-6 years ago but Panasonic has a better history of supporting their creations.
I agree. I'm an FX3 user, but seeing as it's literally the same camera in a different house, this is accurate. I've yet to see anything new come out that taps into my craving for a new camera. I just want to fill out my lineup with a couple more FX3s and I'll be good for years to come.

I was a Panasonic shooter then I switch to Sony, and Kasey you need to do a video about Sony's Memory Recall feature don't letting you change the white balance. Coming from Panasonic that everything just work this is a big frustration, I basically can't use the memory recall at all because I can't set white balance and some other settings too... if you recorded your settings while in aperture priority or any other mode, good luck changing to Manual mode while on the Memory setting... so annoying..

Panasonic shot their warning shot with the S5 II. The killshot will be the S1H II with 4K 120 AND hopefully internal NDs. Yeah it will have the new AF system but the perfect camera will be an S1H II with 4K 120, internal NDs, bigger battery and SSD recording. We don't need 8K. Just stick with the 6K open gate. That would be an instant buy even at 5K for me.
Penny needs to make a stacked version of the S5 II sensor. Then, they're unbeatable.
I agree. Now that Panasonic has phase detect autofocus their future releases will give Sony a run for their money. Better colours, better menus, video-friendly settings and cheaper. Lenses could be an issue though.
But that's the whole problem with Panasonic, they don't make their own sensors. The sensor in the S5II is the one from the A7III. There is no 24ish megapixel sensor available for them to buy that is physically able to do 4k60 without a crop, let alone 4k120.

@@Cwookie_ It isn't. Panasonic has its partners for image sensors. They probably get them from Nuvoton, which formerly was Panasonic Semiconductor. The reason for having 24 MP is that it's simply a standard resolution for 3:2 sensors, having 6000 pixels horizontally and 4000 vertically.

S5II + Sigma 150-600 is same price as just the A7SIII body. That seems a hell of a deal while we wait for the S1HII to come along and rip ass.

I know there are no negative videos yet on the s5ii it's just all spec videos but what would you suggest? Guide me and I'll buy a shirt🤣 I'll buy two
More than 2 years after buying it I have zero regrets. Would buy it again right now if I was looking for a new camera.
Sony can actually best a7Siii by integrating their newest sensor tech where they have doubled the pixel pitch by stacking photosites over submission transistors. They can have a 6k sensor with same pixel pitch as a7Siii. Just imagine that camera would be capable of 6k 120fps. Plus that sensor will gather two times the light of any other 6k sensor.
I am not sure but it is high possibility they are integrating it in their next iPhone sensor. Just imagine what they will achieve by making a full frame sensor with that tech.
All I want is a large sensor, video-centric point and shoot…like an x100V, but for video.
This sorta fits your comment from previous video about tracking birds, but connects here. Where Z9, but possibly R3 makes most sense for you is balance. Heavier yes, but the closer you are to a 50/50 balance the easier tracking becomes. When I shoot with my friends Z9, my tracking results are always better than with my Z6. Imagine tracking targets with a rifle with a 200-600 mm lens duct taped to the end of the barrel..., now duct tape another lens to the butt... heavier, but balanced and stays on target much easier.. till the marksman collapses anyways.. Also in regard to tracking, if you keep both eyes open and focus with your left (non evf) eye on the subject.. you can actually see it in the evf, but by following it with your natural eye as you track it is simply easier to stay on target. It's basically using the force and trusting that though you can't see your framing, you will track it in frame more often this way.

Pany S5 II doesn't that beat A7 S3 for most people? It now has decent autofocus without the gross Sony colors. Yeah...slow mo not in the same game...but for MOST people...I dunno pretty good especially if price is a factor.
Agreed, I'd argue the S5ii is good for 90% of the people looking for a video-centric hybrid camera. I still think the A7Siii is the better purchase for professionals though. I'm personally opting for the S5ii

why is Sony refusing to give the a7s iii an upgrade? at first it was funny but now its really frustrating knowing this was a flagship and all we got was cinetone. its ridiculous. with upgrades no camera is beating this beast.
A7s4 will probably deal significant damage but ultimately fail to finish the job, a7s3 will be on life support for the next 10 years
Personally, I think they gonna kill the A7S line and replace it with an entry level cinema camera like the FX3.

I thought I was happy with the A7SIII and A1 IQ and colours until I bought the Z9...wow, what a hybrid camera and no more wrestling with WB either. Even the newest offerings from Sony fall short of the Z9.

Great job on the video! Thanks for making it. I could see Sony announcing the A7SIV this year to be produced in 2024. I don't really know enough to speculate on the specs, but it would certainly have to have the fancy new articulating screen off of the A7RV, probably a couple of extra framerate options over the A7SIII, and all their new lens-breathing compensation stuff and LUT integration built in. At the same time they announce this camera, I could also see them stealth-launching something akin to an A70. The APS-C sensor from the FX-30 in the body for the A7IV, with a mechanical shutter, a solid EVF, and full stabilization? With that much room around the sensor they could probably make that footage pretty smooth. Make all the video specs identical to the A7SIII, making it the perfect complement for existing owners. At that point, I wouldn't even mind if we got just the same screen as the older cameras. Price it at $1799 and watch it soar off the shelves.

With the FX-3 and FX-30 I don't see Sony going for a A7SIV. The SIII already seemed like they were trying to give something before the FX-3 to avoid people leaving them.
@@juanQuedo Same thing I was thinking. NO need for the A7S anymore. It's a video centric camera in a stills body. FX3 makes more sense for a video camera with the same internals.
The Panasonic S1H Mark II will definitely be the one to watch, but my guess is Sony will see the Panny boy threat and counter it.
I see the future being a Panasonic / Sony race, just like it was back in the 80's with everything (VCR's, TV's, Portable audio etc). Canon have done themselves no favours with pricing and RF mount litigation, so unless they reverse that decision they will be watching the reformed DFD wonder kid (Panasonic) grow market share at an alarming rate.
My 2x Canon C70's are shaking at the thought of a lower cost full frame S1H Mark ii with ND's coming early 2024

@@airb1976 Sony A7Siii has a 12mp sensor and is considered the absolute best video camera. The Hero 8 and the DJI Action 3 have a 12mp sensor and do not overheat. Proving that you don't need to raise pixel count for a video camera to be good. More pixels are only for taking better pictures and raising the pixel count costs more processing power which produces heat.

No anamorphic modes, no. And not much in way of cropping possibilities since it's a 4K camera (4.1K).
S5II doesn't have 4K 120 fps and has a cropped 4K 60 fps and unreliable AF at HD 120 fps (see reviews online). a7Siii has uncropped 4K 120 fps and superior low light performance.
I have a GH6. Should I sell it and all my lenses to buy a Sony A7s iii and highly priced G-Masters? I'm already heavily invested into M43 lenses, including many of the best ones. I value their small size. Not a pro.

Curious how the S5II would perform in this light at 4k 60. Not sure how much longer you have that S5II for I'm curious what it would cost to put a usable lens kit together for that Camera.
You've got a wide array of choices: Sigma, Tamron, and Leica L mount, as well as the lighter Panasonic lenses for L mount.
I was checking canon R5 MK2 rumors.
So yeah. internal 4k 120p / FHD 240p - for probably ~$3500-4000.
Its worth to try maybe only for the new autofocus. I expect the FHD 240p to be decent - idk, there could be something there.
I think the fantastic stabilization of the S5II, plus all it's other features and capabilities make it a great A7sIII killer.

I'm as big of a fan of the S5ii and S5iix as anyone else but it's still no A7Siii killer.
can't even do uncrossed 4K 60 fps, let alone a7siii's 4K 120 fps.

better color, better stabilization, DCI, better image exposure and image analysis tools, syncroscan, better framing options, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting at least a dozen. IMO a better menu,
I guess what you have to do as a shooter is decide which features are more practical and valuable to you and choosing accordingly. That is what I mean by "an equivalent," now that Panasonic has solved the AF problem. Plus, it's almost HALF the price, with an almost equal array of lenses and accessories.
Only watching on a wee notebook screen, at 1440p though. That Sony did surprisingly well for mad high ISO. Need to see your GH6 night vlogging to compare, in face detect with a running counter showing how many times it actually loses you - I wager it wouldn't be much.

hybrids obviously suck. I just bought the S22ultra, that's a hybrid, a phone with extras. Camera's need to be even more defined, be just video or just photo's. That way they could get your uber specs. I want the A7siii , it is enough, enough is enough. I'll probably end up with the 4, just cos I'm poor, makes me sick.
Lens advice... recently bought an Olympus e300 because of all the hype around the Kodak CCD and that "look". It came with Zuiko 14-45mm T3.5-5.6 and 40-150mm T3.5-4.5. Searching for "four thirds" is a nightmare because all the results are MF loser so I was wondering if you had any suggestions for me; even if I have to adapt it. General purpose photography- kids, landscape, street, blah blah. Thanks.

a7siv: give me a lower dual iso point, nobody wants to go to 12800 all the time and then use an nd filter to get decent exposure. other then that, I'm pretty happy with it. 4k 120 with minimal crop, what more can you ask for?! nobody needs 8k anyway.

year ago Sony featured AI sensor tech, i think it is sacked sensor with a bit more focus on computing power of layer or another layer completely for calculations as NVidia tensor cores. I bet it already used in a75, so expect more smartphone like AI sht with (i hope Sony allow us to turn it off), maybe better color filters.

I think people are too hopeful for internal ND in a consumer hybrid camera, you might see that but in a video camera, now Panasonic has the tools to make cameras to compete with Canon C line up.
Which always brings me back to, why the heck Panasonic took so long to implement PDAF???
The amount of ground and sales Panasonic lost to Sony and Canon is just stupid. People have been asking for PDAF for ages, even more after Olympus and Fuji were able to implement it and all Panasonic says is that they were already in advanced stages of development and they couldn't implement it... For what, 3 generations?? For the GH3 and maybe GH4, ok, but from that point on it makes no sense to claim that same thing over and over again.

It depends. for me it will be the Panasonic S5IIX, but for others it may be the S1Hii, but only if a fork lift is included. (Not likely).
At least with the S5ii or S5iix you won't need a fork lift.

When the A7S IV comes out, the A7S III will still be a great camera. The Panny S5 ii doesn't hold a candle. Also, have you shopped a set of L mounts lenses? No thanks.

G9 ii this year, $1299 with Phase Detect, unlimited 4:2:2 10bit 4K60 uncropped H265/H264 to dual SD (no cf). 10% better IBIS than G9. Thank you. That'll be my perfect camera.

HELPPP! I am in the market for my first camera in a long time im primarily a video editor, not a great colorist and my buddy recently got himself a new fx30 and up until then i thought i was going to purchase one as well, until i realized i need and want to get into more of a hybrid role camera that is better At video so naturally i am now looking At the xh2s in the regard should i be looking into something else im feeling very lost on what to invest in my budget is sub 2500 and i love the fuji look and am using it for some real estate work along with my own creative work
