  • Today we visit the Boquillas Crossing in Big Bend National Park for a short day trip. We took the row boat across the Rio Grande and rented a couple of donkeys for our girls to ride into town. I do a complete overview of the costs associated and a map review to help the viewer understand where everything is. This was a safe and fun experience and I hope this video helps you do the same thing...enjoy!
    Is it safe? Yes it is!

    Thanks for the video of you and your girls. I don't think a lot of people understand the symbiosis of the Texas-Mexico culture and how easy it is to exist between the two. Keep 'em coming!

    Boquillas is wonderful. Thank you for the post! A lot of border towns on that part of the river were really on both sides before 911. When I left in November of 22, US citizens had to be back to the Port of Entry by 4:00 and it was open every day except Monday and Tuesday. When it gets hot it's only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Thank you again for the beautiful video!

      Thank you for watching! Yeah this is a fun trek…my girls really enjoyed it. I believe we did this trip right before Covid hit. I’m glad they continue to have this border crossing.

    Wow... This is just like walking the trails in Arizona's National Parks near or around Phoenux. I am glad I saw palo verde trees on the Mexican side...
    I have to get some seeds of palo verde, a tree I love. I hope it grows well in Guadalajara where l live...

Im hoping to get back to Big Bend quickly though..I'll hit you up if I can make it work out!

    Excellent video and great info! One question, regarding your guide: did you tip him in addition to the $5 per head fee for the rowboat and $5 per donkey? It looks like he stayed with you and I feel the added “safety” would be worth some money. Just wondering how much, if any you may have tipped. TIA

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the diode will, and is required, to stay with you during the duration of your visit. I tipped him, and bought him a beer as well. There is a bit of pressure to buy some handmade souvenirs. His daughter actually brought things to us for purchase. They aren’t expensive and we bought a coozie and a few bracelets.
      There isn’t much opportunity for income here so we came expecting to pay our way, tip the guide, purchase some food drink and goods. We considered it part of the experience!
      Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

    I didnt realize it was that official of a border crossing. I would have thought 1 or 2 people there, you flash your passport, and youd be all good. Sucks they wouldn't let your dog through. And then to see the people on the boat with you had one ...
    Do you think different rangers or BP would be more lenient on the port policy on trails?

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know right...it was like salt in the wound! I'm not sure if other rangers would be more lenient...I did see a video posted this last year of a couple in an RV that brought their "regular" dog across with no issue. In fact that video sparked my idea to bring him along with us in the first place. It's all good though, hopefully this video will bring some clarification.

      First I pulled up the info on the NPS website…then I called the office in El Paso that oversees this port of entry.
      They are the ones that you will teleconference with upon reentering the US.

      We were about 20 miles south of Santiago Peak...from the map the tall and pointed peak is a smaller Corazones Peak.
