      No, they aren't fearless, but they were all climbers. I think it was 2012. The new chains were brought up there by helicopter. I was and am friends with some of that crew that put the new chains. Everything else they carried up there day in and day out for the whole project. They were on ropes in case of falling. As far as i know, 3 people fell off that trail in 2019. So be careful! Respect!

    This video absolutely gave me encouragement to do this hike! I am 66 years old and had a hip replacement in September 2017, but decided that Age is a barrier only if you create that within yourself. I made it to the top November 19, 2021 and would be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t a bit scared on the chains, But I accomplished it! I did start out with my fingerless mittens, but quickly took them off as I liked the grip of my bare hands. My knuckles got a bit scuffed, but I still felt more comfortable that way! Thanks so much for the video encouragement! Captain Steve

    Angel's landing truly is an amazing experience, it wasn't too bad for an experienced hiker or even a smart, semi-experienced hiker. You just had to use caution and pay attention like you said. The only thing that made it sketchy was people on that hike that shouldn't have been. Those with a known fear of heights, so scared they would feeeze up and make it almost impossible to pass them, or those with no experience hiking making this their first real hike. Or those just making stupid choices about their foot wear.
    I respect those that admit their inexperience o fear of heights and decide not to do the chain section. A lot of people try and push it when they shouldn't, and those are the ones making it hard and dangerous for everyone else.
    Practice on some smaller hikes with less consequence first to gain experience and build up to that one if you want to do it. Happy hiking.

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Now that was very well said! Tempted to move my "explanation" and pin this comment to the op for would-be hikers. I hope people read this because it succinctly sums up what I believe and what others have mentioned in part in the comments. We all need to use caution on this hike, but it is not a death-wish to attempt it. Perhaps the greatest dangers are other humans up there - too many and those who do not belong.

    One of my favorite all time hikes!
    The trail itself is not nearly as scary or dangerous as people make it seem, as long as you don’t do anything stupid. The chains make you feel much more comfortable than you’d think and the rock is very grippy.
    I highly recommend riding a bike into the park early and starting the hike up in the dark. I did this a few weeks ago and had the whole top to myself (you can rent bikes or e-bikes right in town). So peaceful and such an amazing experience! Sunrise from the top is stunning!

    This is an amazing, scenic video, and I really appreciate your up-beat, encouraging narration. I love to hike, and test myself physically. But each of the several videos I’ve watched of THIS one convinces me a little more: There’s simply no way I will attempt this-knowing how I tend to freeze when I approach a sheer drop. But I can enjoy the views, and vicariously get a sense of the experience, thanks to intrepid folks like you. (Incidentally, I particularly liked how encouraging and positive you were toward the young man who turned back; “no shame” is a great message to support those of us who know, and wisely respect, our natural limits. ALSO, I got a kick out of the other “summiteer” who said said to you, “I recognize the voice.” I thought that was a fun detail, which also reminded me how hiking and being outdoors in beautiful places just inspires human beings to connect with each other. AND, his “plug” DID motivate me to hit “Subscribe!”😉

    Took this hike about 15 years ago with my son and a friend. Made it to the main saddle with .5 mile to go and decided against the rest of the way. Reason there were teenagers racing through and almost playing tag on the hike. Gave me the creeps and i thought if one of these kids slips he’s gonna reach for me! The hike to the saddle is well worth it and pretty safe but strenuous. Keep up the good work.

      @jacknmdl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not exactly right. The hiker who died on February 18 actually fell off the West Rim Trail at the Moonlight Buttress, a well-known rock climbing area. Initial media reports on the location of his body were incorrect. Still, it is a challenging and potentially dangerous hike.

    Definitely the best angels landing video I’ve seen. I took a trip to Zion by myself back in May. The landscape up there is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The hike itself is sometimes overplayed as being extremely dangerous. Really, it’s the crowd of people that make it dangerous. Too many people going up at once, not wearing the proper shoes (don’t wear sneakers) etc. I literally saw a man hiking the chains in his bare feet caring an infant. Just go at the right time of day and it’s perfectly safe. Even the narrowest sections seen in videos like these aren’t as narrow as they seem.

I've done Angel's Landing once before and I remember it was only scary in the beginning part of the chains and then I got used to it. I know you were being very careful when you were filming this but it really looked great still. You've probably already done this before but the 8 mile Observation Point trail I feel is even better than this one because you're actually above Angel's Landing when you reach the end. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and infomative video of Angels Landing. I been wanting to do this hike for so long. I watched some video of it, and still undecided whether I should do it or not. I saw a postcard of it from the top and it was fantastic. After seeing your video, I felt my heart was pounding with fear. I did not able to finished watching the end, but watched the most dangerous part of it. Watching your video, made me realized this hike is not meant for me. I have a fear of height, but i did some hiking around Zion too. By watching you when you reached the part where you have to hold tight to the chains, I lost my focus and felt dizzy. Maybe I can hike up to the part before the chain section. Again, thank you for sharing this video. I enjoyed your video and looks like you got more great videos for me to watch.

    My family and I got to visit Zion National Park in October 2019 and let me just say, it truly was an experience that I will never forget!!! Life changing for sure. I should I say, "fo sho".
    We hiked a few epic trails that completely left us speechless by the beauty of the canyons, waterfalls and cliffs. October was a great time to go because of all of the variety of Fall colors. The Lower and Upper Emerald Pools trails and the Riverside Walk trail were breathtaking, and it was about 40 degrees when we started so it was definitely an adventure!
    We want to go back next year and do The Narrows but because of the pandemic and certain National Parks being shut down or suddenly overcrowded, we're just gonna wait and see. . .

      Could not have said that better myself! :) Truly believe everything good we experience is just a foretaste of future glory. Have a great time at Zion! It's one of the best - both in beauty and the diversity of activity!

    Nice video!! I had the privilege to climb Angels Landing last year by myself at age 67. It was my favorite hike of all time! Unfortunately, 3 months later, I had a bad Heart Attack and although I am still working to get back in the shape I need, I am not sure I would ever be able to do the climb again. I do hope to do the reverse (downhill) hike from Observation Pt. and the Narrows at some time. I really enjoyed some of your camera angles. It is nice to have friends along to get different angles. I too posted a video of my hike, mostly with my GoPro on a chesty mount which freed up my hands.

      Hey Tom, love reading each person's unique experience on Angel's Landing! I am sorry to hear about your heart attack. Praying for a full recovery. Just finished looking at your video. Thanks for sharing and stay strong!

    Love watching your videos but as someone who’s scared of heights, all these shots were giving me anxiety! But the view is amazing!

    Outstanding video! If I had watched it prior to hiking Angels Landing I may not have made the hike. Great experience but it does create some nervous moments.

    I hiked Angel's Landing last year and it was so amazing. My fiance and I really loved it and it was our first hike EVER. We are looking into the Half Dome hike with the cables, would you say it is equally as challenging?

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, Jessica, you guys don't play around on your "first hikes" together! :) Congrats on your accomplishment! Regarding Half Dome - the greatest challenge might be getting the permit. As for the hike, it's much longer with more elevation, but IMHO less scary that A. Landing. It will push the body much harder. Half Dome is perhaps the premier National Park hike. If you don't vamp, plan on a full day. Go for it!

    I've hiked Angel's Landing twice. Once in my 30s, another time in my 40s. As long as you don't mind a one foot in front of the other approach, you can do it. Not a hike for the feint of heart.

    Never be afraid to go with your gut. If you don’t feel you can do a hike safely, just enjoy what you have and turn around. My wife and I encountered that a few weeks ago attempting Mt. Whitney, too much snow. We’re hikers not mountaineers. Though we had the equipment, it was still above our skill set. No regrets camping in the shadow of Mt. Whitney at 12,000 feet.

      That was well-said, my friend! Wise words! I want people to know when folks jump beyond their limits or act foolishly, potential danger is around the corner. No hike, view, adventure is worth that! Mt. Whitney is no joke. Hope you can get back and give it another chance under better conditions!

    That was some drop Randy, you do not want to slip there brother! Nice early start and I love an early start, always at my best early doors. 'Know your limits, three points of contacts and stay focused' sound advice on a climb like that and taking it slow, ensures you enjoy the ride, although, you defiantly need a head for heights and respect to Tim for turning back, he did the right thing for him, which is always the best thing for the group. The views were outstanding and so pleased you managed to record it. Great watch and a great achievement Randy! Cheers Alan
