    Bill is a great guy for sure. Back in the early 70's I was in Terlingua for the chili cook off. I noticed everyone wearing handguns in holsters so I asked a guy who was standing next to he chili pot what the deal was. He looked at me then down towards the ground behind me and said, "because of rattlesnakes like the one there behind you.
    I went to my truck, got my pistol and strapped it on.
    Terlingua is a place everyone should experience and you won't get a better burger than the one at the Starlight Theater. Try the Diego burger, the chili burger and or just a plain cheese burger and wash it down with a Santa Elena margarita.

    We love going there every year! Best part is my kids cannot stop talking about Terlingua and they choose this destination over any other every summer! Bill is great and the locals are the best! So many memories for us and I'm happy we found Terlingua.

    We visited Terlingua back in February 1974. It looks like a lot of improvements have been made. I'd love to go back someday and meet the man who saved the town.

    Every Texan should make a pilgrimage to Big Bend/Terlingua. (Alpine was nice too.) Be sure to also drive along the Rio Grand between Lajitas and Redford. (to Redford and back) Some parts are absolutely beautiful such as the Chisos Mountains and Santa Elena Canyon. It’s like going to another planet. There are a LOT of miles out there so be sure to map it before driving it. The weird plants that you see out there are called ocotillo.

    Lol 100 miles to the doctor, definitely can’t go visit that town myself in my condition but it would be a great 👍 escape from the hussle and bussle of city life.

    Love the Show. 1st time I watched ur show was a piece u did the The Garlic Man!
    The guy u came to see for this show tho needs to step back a little and he might be able to say Last frontier in Texas.
    I have lived in the Three largest states in this country. And either I was born or I have brothers born in each one of them. Cal., Texas and Alaska. I can tell u Alaska not only is the Biggest state by far it IS the Last Frontier for America.

    Not all wells in the area produce potable water if you are lucky enough to find water. Some pump very toxic water.

    Bill are you the guy that helped a friend of mine and I when we locked our keys in my friends little white volkswagon. You wouldn't or whoever that good look'in guy was wouldn't take any cash . So we asked if we could buy a 6 pack of whatever your was favorite beer was . He said sure Lone Star in glass bottles. We wanderd off looking for Lone Star in glass there was no such thing in the area so Lone Star in cans , is what we got. That handsome young chap laughed and said well thanks for your trouble .
    I fell in love with Terlingua .
    There were some mobile homes converted into motel rooms , we spent the night there , but only because someone got snakebit, and had to go to Marfa.
    We sat out on the step and gazed at the most beautiful starlit sky , as some little donkeys wandered buy paying us no more attention than the rocks under their feet . The place can really get under your skin I am happy you found a way to stay, and make it possable for others to enjoy its magic.
    I always said when I retired I would like to spend my winters there. That didn't happen I live in Northeastern Montana as close to the Northern Boarder as Terlingua is to the Southern one and almost as remote.as Terlingua, except that we have a sort of hospital where they can patch you up enough ( we hope )until a life flight from Billings can get you to Billings Montana 369 miles away, before you expire or can get that broken leg fixed.

    Didn't Carroll Shelby have part in restoring Terlingua ? Don't they have a Chili festival there?

    • @LajitasRain
      @LajitasRain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Shelby was more involved in the Terlingua Ranch which is several miles from the town. He and his business partner bought thousands of acres hoping to sell off in lots. When it wasn't going well they created the World Championship Chili Cookoff to lure prospective buyers to the area.

    Is Terilingua like a desert land or does it rain?

    • @unrulyjulie4382
      @unrulyjulie4382 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does rain...occasionally...every other year or so...
      Actually, the average rainfall for this area is 9 to 10 inches per year, so it very definitely is a desert environment.

      What I like about the people is that nobody is not trying to dress or impress people. People just living their life in peace. They look at me and either said hi or nothing 😊. There is One pizza place you have to eat! It a 5 star restaurant with folded tables and paper plates 😂
