  • So we spent 27 hours having an epic time in Big Bend National Park. We went down River Road for the 2.5 hr drive to visit Mariscal Mine. After exploring there, we turned south and hiked the Mariscal Canyon Rim Trail where we spent the night. The next day we drove back towards Rio Grande Village where we spent some time soaking in the Hot Springs before the long drive home. This was a short and jammed packed trip that I highly recommend if you are short on time but still need adventure. Enjoy the video and if you have any questions please comment below!

    Wife and I went out there and drove around 45 miles . Good tires a must . Pine mountain trail out there is a good hike when you get to the pines look right . Water fall . Left you can see the quartz in the top of the hills

      Robert Stewart , I’ll definitely have to check that out. I’ve been wanting to check out Pine Canyon, looks beautiful. Hopefully all of the backroads will open back up soon!

      @@TheNotLostNomad I hope so . There camping spots are miles apart so I don't see any reason to close them . I would like to go off trail around lost pine trail . The mountain to left looks pretty interesting but when we was there rattle snakes was everywhere so I wasn't about to get off trail . The camping spot at end of road is a great view and close to trail

      @@TheNotLostNomad pine canyon road was open last December. I'm going back next week. Hopefully the backroads will be open after all the recent snowfall in big bend. Guess I'll find out.

      @@markmcdowell4953 , let me know how the roads were! I had to cancel my trip. I was planning on caching water at Juniper Canyon but my 2 wheel drive truck wouldn’t handle it after all of the snow.
      The weather has really been putting a kink in my hiking trips lately

    How much fuel did you go through? Did you bring extra with you?

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We didn’t bring any extra with us…a fresh tank of gas from the cottonwood camp is sufficient to get you through.
      Good quality tires and the ability fix a flat are the more critical concerns. It’s great out there though!

    Is there any way to avoid scratching up your vehicle on the road? Great video...

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! You wont have any issue on River Road itself...just some of the side roads to some of the camps. The road to the Talley campsites close to the Mariscal Canyon Trailhead was the worst one. The roads are surprisingly well maintained besides a few spots. Even though the truck looked all scratched up I think they all buffed out.

    I've watched your entire series on Big Bend to date. Great photography and well put together videos. Would you share what camera you used for this video? And do you use any color correction?

      Thank you so much...I pour a lot of time into these...I enjoy it and comments like that make it worth it!
      So I use a GoPro Hero5 Black
      Linear FOV
      60fps at 2.7K converted to 1080
      Protune Flat color
      EV Comp -1
      Medium sharpness
      400 ISO
      Auto shutter
      5500 K white balance
      I shoot it flat and pull the colors back out in post as well as stabilize the best I can. I use Davinci Resolve for all of my post editing. It’s a great free software...but takes some time to learn.

    Would you say that trail is doable in a 2wd suv with bfg ko2 tires ?

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it sounds like those tires would be tough enough... and you’d be fine with 2WD as long as you stay away from Black Gap Road. For the most part the trail is great...just some sections of sharp rocks that pose a risk.

    This road looks cool. Would you say it's tame enough for a Subaru Outback?

    • @TheNotLostNomad
      @TheNotLostNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This road is totally safe for an Outback, ONLY if you have all terrain tires. The road itself is very tame but the issue is in a few sections where the rock is very sharp and you can destroy a tire quickly. My friend had reinforced tires and we almost lost one of his when we had a small slip...caused a 3” gash in the sidewall.
      If you are geared with all terrain tires, a good spare, and tire changing equipment you’ll be fine...it’s great out there so go enjoy it!

    Great shots man. The vantage point from the side of the truck is really immersive. How do you have the gorpro mounted? It looks like someone is holding a gimbal outside the window.

      Thank You! I didn't have a gimbal for this trip but I just got one. I've been in Rocky Mountain National Park all week testing it out...hopefully I can catch up on editing soon and get some new videos out!
