    The easiest way to bypass your park brake wire on an aftermarket head unit.
    The park brake wire is a safety feature that is standard on all after market head units with a user interface that has a screen. When connected, the unit will not allow things like, video playback, maps, CarPlay, android auto etc, unless the park brake is engaged.
    This video is for tutorial purposes only. We do not recommend bypassing the safety feature but it may be necessary for testing purposes.
    Thanks so much for watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel!

    This will work on MOST units with a Park Brake wire. Putting the Park Brake wire directly to GND tricks the unit into the thinking the Park Brake is always on.
    Some (not many) units with GPS antennas can still tell the car is moving- though this is rare.
    We do NOT recommend doing this nor condone watching your head unit/phone screen while driving. This video is for testing purposes only.

      This will not work on newer pioneer units as the brake wire input must receive an on off on signal to enable video playback.

    I just installed an Axxera AV6118Bi DVD head unit in my vehicle. I was gonna purchase a bypass off amazon till I came across this video. I was a little skeptical at first thinking this is far to easy but decided to hold off and give this a try. Just finished hooking up the entire system in my car and wouldn’t you know it, it actually works!!! I was pleasantly surprised. My only slight confusion was that I only had the e-brake wire from the head unit side and not the vehicle side. But I wired it to the ground as stated and it worked. Thanks for the tip

      Reel Dad Hey mate! It’s a great little trick we’ve been doing in our head unit installs for a long time.
      In most cases, when we connect it to the park brake wire, customers come back asking if it’s possible to work without the hand brake. So we started doing this.
      All of the bypass kits do the same thing, just trick the unit into thinking the e brake is always on 😊.

    QUESTIONS: I have an '09 Corolla and installing 9" head unit. 1) To have a camera icon on the head unit and to see behind the car without the car being in reverse, do you connect the reverse trigger wire from RCA cable from rear camera to red Accessory wire and also the head unit reverse wire (mine is a brown wire) for when car is put in reverse? 2) I have two yellow RCA connectors from head unit. One connector is labeled 'CCD AVIN' and the other connector is labeled 'Aux-V'. The Camera RCA cable connector coming from the camera plugs into which of the two RCA connectors in order to establish a signal for the rear camera? 3) I have a pink wire from the head unit labeled, 'With protocol model output 12V can be connected to the camera'. Is this pink wire like an accessory wire for the rear camera to view behind the car with out being in reverse? Should I use this wire instead of the red accessory wire to have a camera icon on head unit and see behind the car without being in reverse? 4) I connected the RCA cables together at the head unit and the trigger wire to the red wire off of the RCA cable, but I get no reverse camera picture on the head unit. When I look at the rear camera, the LED lights up when in reverse. Why no reverse camera picture on head unit? Thank You for All Your HELP!!!

    In the rust belt of the USA it's extremely rare to use the parking brake because the cars get rusty and the cable seizes up. Even with manual trans we just leave it in first or reverse. It is usually labeled "EMERGENCY BRAKE" in the USA.

    • @PeterATomich
      @PeterATomich 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @Someone New Clearly you are an intellectual. I actually have lived in the Rust Belt for decades. The original coining (~40 years ago) of the term Rust Belt did refer to the decline of the heavy steel and heavy industry in the Great Lakes region. But the term also has a modern colloquial meaning referring to long winters we get from the Great Lakes and jet stream and the use of salt on the roads that aggressively rusts all of our steel infrastructure. Also you are not mechanically knowledgeable if you think a parking brake and an emergency brake are two different things. The (P) position on your automatic transmission uses something called a parking pawl that mechanically locks the transmission up (no brake or fiction material involved). A true cable-driven emergency/parking brake can be applied while the vehicle is rolling as a backup to the hydraulic brakes, but don't try that with (P) on the transmission!

    • @zamboniguy8952
      @zamboniguy8952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me the word Emergency brake will never make sense. It’s an adopted word from the creation of the automatic transmission. Prior to automatics you have to use your “parking brake” to hold your car in place rather than P on your automatic transmissions shifter. Most to nobody I see that drives an automatic ever applies their parking brake anymore. Instead they just put there car in the park gear and call it a day. Park gear (P) is your back up in the event that your parking brake fails. A parking brake is not designed to stop your vehicle in the event of an emergency. It is designed to park your vehicle. If you own an automatic and are parking your car you should always: 1. Come to a complete stop 2. Put your car into (P) 3. Finally apply your parking brake, you do all these steps with your foot on the main brake, once you have applied the parking brake you take your foot off the brake pedal

    • @PeterATomich
      @PeterATomich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zamboniguy8952 I agree with that. You may have noticed in new cars that they have an electronically activated "parking brake" that is automatically engaged by the computer under certain sceneries. I rented a Jeep Renegade and a Ford Kuga that had this feature. For example, if you put the Jeep in neutral and opened the door it would set the parking brake to prevent it from rolling. There was a famous accident with a Hollywood actor that got out his Jeep when it was in drive to get mail and it was very bad press for Jeep. I have no idea if you could activate that parking brake at driving speeds or not because it is just a button. It must "try" to stop the car.

    This doesn’t work for newer Alpine units. I tried it on my alpine iLX-507 and the unit requires a change of state. So basically if the head unit starts up with the park wire grounded it will not allow you to use certain functions. It needs to turn on, have no ground connection to the e brake wire, and then get a switched ground signal from some where. If you wire it to your embrace and then actuate the e brake, the ebrake basically works like a large switch. You could wire the ground wire to a switch along with the e brake wire and turn it on after the head unit has powered up. I don’t know if there is some sort of resistor or other electrical device that you could wire inline from the ground wire to the e brake wire that would regard the ground connection for a second so that the head unit see a change of state from non ground to grounded after the head unit powers up. Just a question if anyone's still active on this video. After you connect the unit's gound and park brake wire together, does it then have to be connected to vehicle ground os is it grounded through the wiring of the head unit? Thanks

  • @malabarspyder

    Ive also read some units require a change from hot to ground to enable VDO/BT. There is a device sold on EBAY that does this step...

    • @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306
      @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't need to switch hot and ground actually. It just needs to pulse a ground, then hold it constant ground which is what that doohicky device does. So far I have found only Pioneer and newer Alpines need that pulse. Most other brands you just ground the P brake wire. Now older Alpines needed both a ground and positive and for that you needed something a little more complex like a PAC TR-7... about 15 or 20 bucks.

    • @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306
      @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To explain.. Pioneer and newer Alpines only use one wire to detect the parking brake pulse which throws a ground. The older Alpines they were more slick and made it so the head unit needed 2 wires for bypass... parking brake which is ground, and regular brake which is positive hot. So the device just faked the unit into thinking both were connected to the vehicle.

    So will this bypass fix the problem of my maps not acquiring gps signal? (Mind you I have neither bypassed it nor hooked it to my parking brake)

    • @TheFittingBay
      @TheFittingBay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Murpht No your maps are not acquiring signal for one of two reasons..
      The external GPS antenna is not plugged in.
      Or it is plugged in and if you’re using CarPlay or AA it’s interfering with the signal :)

    Hopefully you can still respond but, how do you make the green parking brake wire from the stereo become “grounded” to the chassis of the car or the metal of the stereo itself? Like how do you make it stick with the end of the wire to the metal so that it’s grounded??? Hopefully you get what I mean, im new to this

    • @notreallybarackobama
      @notreallybarackobama 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      By soldering the park brake wire to the GND wire, you effectively ground it. No need to attach it to any metal on the car, just do what the video says and the wire will be grounded

      Aidan Ball If it’s not detecting the handbrake or the settings are not illuminating you should give this a try and it should fix it.

    Just installed in 2002 Toyota Highlander Sony XVAXA-1000.....simple-- place parking wire under radio mount 10mm bolt that screws into the METAL DASH FRAME.......not to anything else......if you make sure the bold is going into center dash metal support bracket it works great. If you use plastic area only, won't bypass.... Great short cut for demonstration purposes of course. This is a iPhone ONLY CarPlay radio.
