Here in Victoria Australia, if we buy a single onion, it can cost up to 85-90 cents. Fresh fruit and vegetables are almost too expensive for the people with incomes under the poverty line. I struggle on an income less than $600 per week, my food shop alone, for my growing grandson and myself is in excess of $300 per week. I keep fresh fruit and veggies in the fridge and feed my grandson well…I am finding that I have to go without a couple of meals a week these days, which I don’t mind cos I’ve got ‘middle aged spread’ 😂 and can do with loosing a few kilos! 😉 Thanks for your recipe…they look so delicious and I will definitely try making them. 🤤😋👍 God bless ya…and your precious people. Crikey! Aussie here too😉. I have no idea what you are buying but it only costs me $150 per week usually for myself & my 2 sons & we buy some junk snacks & treats too. Which grocery store do you use? I prefer aldi but use others too. I would suggest joining some budget cooking groups if you are spending so much just on 2 people. Even just buying a cheap slab pre-made lasagne & some garlic bread & salad is an easy cheat meal for us but we can eat 3 days worth of dinners for us 3 for $20ish. If you can make your own burger & hotdog buns & pizza bases it helps heaps too. Rice is awesomely cheap. My kids always have fruits available. We never have to go without. I'm so sorry you are struggling. It will only get worse with the current system of things so I suggest working on it now💚

This is exactly what I needed to watch tonight. Decent, simple, inexpensive cooking. It looks great. I'm a confident cook, but I've lost motivation recently and perhaps this is the sort of thing I need to get me back into it. A quick question - have you ever tried freezing the pasties before baking? It would be great to be able to pull one out of the freezer the night before and have it for lunch.
I grew my older children up on these, but I added small pieces of meat and also carrots to mine was a fan favorite of my older kids were young. I also would top it with some white gravy. Definitely going to have my younger children make this in their homeschool home economics class this week

I stumbled across this recipe, as a random youtube recommendation, and was very intrigued. I made a batch the very next day. I goofed up and didn’t make enough dough (I watched the short crust recipe, loved it too!) but that ended up being a good thing. I made some notes, did some tweaking and made a second batch yesterday and now I have a banging new recipe! Thank you for your videos!!!!
Being the great granddaughter of Cornish immigrants to the gold mines of California in the 1800s I grew up with pasties and made them myself. I now reside in the American state of New Mexico only 30 miles from the famous town of Hatch which produces the legendary Hatch Green Chili 🌶 ❤🎉. May I suggest that the addition of this chili to the pasties filling would delight and tempt all the saints of Heaven themselves! Once you experience the green chili no food can ever be without it and nothing could be better than a bottle of green chili beer with a green chili, potato, cheese and onion pastie; ahhh Heaven 😊

@@BakingOnABudget absolutely… it’s still cheaper to bake at home, most definitely. Also, much safer to eat!😉😁
My dad would’ve loved your pasties…he was a big pie and pastie fan. He also loved to make potted meat with a pigs cheek, have you ever made potted meat?
I have just subscribed to your channel and hope to gain some new insights.
Jen. ❤️🙏❤️
Out of all the cooking videos on TH-cam i have watched your the only one that gives a breakdown of all price of ingredients then give everyone the total price great love your videos 🎉
Many hanks....yes I like to let people know how much each recipe costs so that it can be seen how much cheaper it is to bake your own.
Dave you’ve just made my day! Not only do you cook but you do vans as well! The youngest (9) made your chocolate mousse today and it went down a storm with his older siblings. They are loving your recipes, so easy to follow and no annoying mother telling them what to do…
Shall subscribe straight away to the other channel. Have had three vans, well three big ones with sleeping capability, a transit t350 I drove four kids to Italy in 2011 with double bunks across the back, a Citroen relay which was multipurpose space but unreliable so I got rid six months ago, followed by another t350 welfare van that I was just finishing insulating and planning final layout when someone nicked it eight weeks ago. Now got to start again with finding another base van for less than the last as insurance obv didn’t cover what I spent on it. All your inspiration along with a few others will be so thankfully received, looking forward to your content. Thank you , peculiarlyhookedonpendle
Thanks a lot, great to hear that the kids are enjoying cooking and making the recipes. On the van channel I do mainly the Vivaro or Renault trafic. I'm starting the latest one next week and will video all of the work.
My gosh. How much has this inspired me!! Currently moving to a chapter in life where I am no longer a student and have to go out in the world. One of the thing that gives me courage is to imagine building a place for myself in the rent apartment that I will buy, the recipes I will have to make, the groceries I will have to shop. It surely sounds tiring qhen you think of it, but you gave me so much courage that I'm gonna be okay in a new city. Thank youu. I love your enthusiasm.
Many thanks and I wish you well in your new life.
The rounded knives remind me of what my Grandma used to use and it fills me with warmth.
I think that knife has been in my family for 3 generations...I've got 4 of them in my cutlery drawer.
@@BakingOnABudgetwe call it ‘old granny knives’ as my granny has these when she was alive. When she passed I quickly pocketed her 3 us army large spoons. I have no idea where she got them from. But they’re mine now!!! X
Expat in the States here, wonderful content. Quick, clean, easy but high quality recipes, and the value for money also. Please don't stop - and... thank you! :)
Many hanks....loads more recipes to come.
This gentleman has a really great presenting style. It's like you are in the kitchen alongside him. Have made these pasties ( not as well, obviously) and they came out fine if a little misshapen. Also made his ginger cake, which was lovely. Thank you, Sir. My kitchen is now like a bomb site but there you go.
Thanks a lot, great to hear you are trying some of the recipes.
Can't put into words the feeling of home, as soon as i heard your accent! I'm from the North myself and this makes me want to get right back into baking!
Thanks a lot....hope you take up baking again....you can't beat home baked food. Thanks.
Thank you so much for giving us ideas for good food at a reasonable price. And the uncomplicated methods make your recipes very easy to follow. I look forward to making these!
Thanks a lot, loads more to come.
Hello from New Jersey. I’ve always wanted to try a pasty recipe. Thank you for the lesson, I look forward to giving it a try. Enjoy your tasty looking lunch.
Thanks a lot....they were delicious.
What a refreshing way to show your video tutorials, including costing is a brilliant idea, especially whilst times are hard for many folks.
Hopefully these vids inspire people to save money and make much nicer home made food rather than the ultra processed stuff.🤞🏻👍🏻
That is my hope too....simple and inexpensive food....easy to make and delicious. Thanks a lot.
Watching this from Tokyo🗼 though im not Japanese! Think ill give it a go. Straight forward simple and warm presentation and not full of gimmicks like most successful channels.

Thanks, there might be a book in the future. But I would like to make it a free download.......working on it.
@@BakingOnABudget That is very kind. 🎉

Old school recipes the best well done for try to educate the people that you can eat well for little or nothing, watching from your neighbours in Ireland
Welcome from the UK and I agree....it does not cost a lot to eat well if you are prepared to but in a little time and effort. Thanks.
These are what I've been waiting for. I was going to request cheese and onion pasties but you've beat me to it. As usual your video has clear easy instructions. Really loving your channel. Look forward to the next video 🤩

This is the perfect amalgamation of both sides of my family, my Dad's favourite food, my Mum's- 'to the point' baking and cookery. Love the tone of this video, informative, kind, concise and I think we all want to be there!

Thanks so much, hope you give the pasties a go.
Yes they should freeze well before baking.......hope you give them a try...Thanks.
@@BakingOnABudget thanks! I'll give them a try soon! Also do you know what would happen when using 200g lard instead of 100g butter and 100g lard?
I absolutely love your cheap and lovely recipes thank you so much, you explain the process so well and my cooking skills have definitely improved 👍
Thant's great to hear and thanks for watching.
Amazing! Can't wait to try this. Have to admit I do love some good white Irish cheddar. Will definitely go well with this!
Thanks a lot, hope you enjoy them.
@@BakingOnABudget They turned out amazing. Seriously good recipe. I was very happy!
This channel has cured my depression.
Good! Hope you enjoy some of the recipes. Thanks
I grew my older children up on these, but I added small pieces of meat and also carrots to mine was a fan favorite of my older kids were young. I also would top it with some white gravy.
Definitely going to have my younger children make this in their homeschool home economics class this week
That's great to hear....all kids should learn to cook and bake in my opinion....it's a vital life skill. Thanks.
Yum! Lard! I am starting to get super clear now on when lard might be used. So pretty, simple and tasty and economical and no fancy ingredients or tools or techniques required.
That's right a real simple recipe and delicious too.
My son and I are going to give this a go . Looks so good . Love from us in new Zealand
Welcome from the UK....Hope you both enjoy it. Thanks
Yet again a fantastic recipe, thank you.
My pleasure, hope you give them a go.
Always great to hear that others are trying and enjoying the recipes. Thanks a lot.
They look great 👍
Thanks a lot, hope you give them a go.
Loved this. Thanks.
And instead of a knife and plate, you can also use a pan/pot lid like a circular cookie cutter.
Thanks...yes good idea.

These recipes never fail to please.
Thanks a lot.
With the saints of Heaven in mind....I'll try it the next time I have these. Thanks.
Thanks for this recipe, i love pasties.
My pleasure, hope you give the recipe a go.
I'm watching from Germany thank You very mutch for the great resapies
My pleasure, hope you give them a try
I love your recipes! Thank you! These, I will make for sure!
Great, hope you enjoy them.
This is brilliant and wholesome, lovely video and it's British. Please keep the culture and the craft alive!!! By the way I'm a hungarian immigrant...
Thanks a lot....loads more good old school recipes to come.
If l get onions too greasy l pop them on kitchen towel. Also l add mixed dry herbs to filling. Love watching your straightforward recipes tho
Thanks a lot, and yes I like the onions quite dry for this recipe
I always boil my onion with the potato, then chop the whole lot together when it's cooked. Just the way I've always done it.
Great channel, no messing around, just the plain facts with excellent recipes.
This Looks awesome! I am on a tight Budget and this will Help. Thank you. And you seem like such a nice Guy. 👍
Thanks very much and I hope the recipes help with the budget.
Me: has read books for more than half my life that references trifles, flans, and pasties without knowing what a pastie is until today with this video.
Yes...you can't beat a good pasty....really versatile and delicious....hope you give them a try.
Best greeting from Ukraine. Enjoyable videos ❤
Welcome from The UK and thanks for watching.
Plain and simple cooking. Love it 👌👌

Another great video watching you is better than tv I have never tried cheese and onion pasties will definitely make them
Thanks a lot, I hope yours turn out great.
I followed this recipe yesterday and the pasties were a resounding success! Thank you for showing us-it is so much easier to learn by watching someone, as opposed to reading a recipe. It seems more achievable somehow. I also made the leek and potato soup you showed us last week, which went down very well in my house!
That's great to hear and yes I agree it's always easier to watch someone doing it.
Lovely
Thanks a lot.
