I'm pretty sure the reason you couldn't get yours as flat as Greggs' is because you have approx 1286534% more filling in yours than in the average Greggs pasty :)
Thanks, Cheryl! I recently bought some puff pastry without having a plan for using it, and I have all the ingredients to make these right now! Real “comfort food “!
I am so happy to have found your recipes I feel as though i am back in Glasgow instead of Canada I will not be paying a fortune at Scottish bakers thank you.
It's 9:45 AM here in the US and I'm getting awfully hungry. Will try to make these over the weekend since I love onions, potatoes and cheese. Thank you and we'll see you tomorrow on your shopping trip and Sunday with last weeks dinners. Take care.
Hi Cheryl I love cheese & onion pasty I make it often with brought pastry. I loved the way you showed everything in details but best of all I loved the way you spoke your voice is so calm & gentle, I can imagine from it that your a happy bubbly person keep up the good work & smile & give a little laugh too 😍 👍🏻
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I moved from the UK to Canada a few years ago and he's asked for a Cheese and Onion Pasty, or several as his birthday dinner. I've definitely found the right recipe, and the way you describe everything is so helpful, and so very lovely. Can't wait to try the recipe!
And I was wondering what to make for tonight. Thanks this will go over well. I have to say I have eaten many cheese and onion pasty over the years, but these looked way better and I swear I could almost smell them
Just made this here in the USA for my homesick Scottish husband and he says it’s just like the real thing. ❤️ great with tomato soup. adding this recipe to the regular rotation
Just subscribed! I’ve been stuck in Saudi for the last 9 months and aching to be home. Your recipes have helped me have some sort of semblance of home whilst I’ve been out here. Keep up the great work!
Hi Cheryl love your videos. Well! I m 62 and never knew about adding salt to cold water making potatoes take longer to cook! You can tell I m no chef!. Pasties look scrumptious by the way! Take care. Xx
These look just lovely! I'm going to be buying a box of puff pastry in my next grocery haul for sure! Thanks, Cheryl for all your wonderful recipes, they are so inspiring!
Awww. Who doesn't like a greggs pasty. My daughter especially likes the cheese and onion ones. My fav is the steak bake or beef and veg. I've tried to get my pie filling to taste like greggs steak bake but its never the same. Can you have a go at some steak bakes Cheryl please. Got my daughter off school because of this awful Corona virus and were always looking for ideas for lunch and a few pasties in the fridge would fill a few tummies up and put a smile on our faces. Many thanks for this recipe. I'm definitely going to make them. Nick x
Hi Cheryl, I liked these, they seem filling, cost effective and just a real treat, who doesn’t love puff pastry? You love your baked beans but I wish you would make Cowboy Beans a lovely decadent version of baked beans, bet Mr W.F.T. Would like them. 2 cans baked beans rinsed, 1/2 lb ground beef cooked 1 onion chopped and cooked 1/2 lb bacon cooked and chopped 1 tray BBQ pulled pork 1 can tomato sauce 1/2 C brown sugar Salt and pepper Spoonful yellow mustard Mix together and bake. The whole house will smell wonderful. For more spice a spoonful of chili powder. Please try, we love this. Jen
Thank you! Lol! I've been saying I need a good, but easy recipe for pasties... Last week, we finally got takeout. (It was the first time we'd gotten it since March.) Guess what we got? A bunch of pasties from a restaurant that specializes in them. They will sell them "half baked" so that you can heat them up later at home. We got 3 meals worth! So, yes, I was wanting to take a bite of yours right through the screen! Arizona, USA
Fantastic idea, Cheryl!!! Thank you so much for posting this. I've made Chicken and Steak Pasties before, but have never seen these. I'll definitely give them a go sometime soon. Hope all's going well there!
Ha! I've got all the necessary ingredients in the house. I'll be trying my hand on these tomorrow! Best regards from Munich (where Cheddar is soooo expensive, but so delicious).
Love this Cheryl! As soon as I saw that the missing ingredient from my early attempts was the tatties to bind everything together I knew I had it. My recipe's the same idea. but I used different quantities of the ingredients. (Been a while since I made them. On a diet ...meh!) Loved your macaroon recipe as well. Again I didnae ken it was tatties for the binding. Aw the best fae the Irvine Valley!
I watched this video last yesterday then went out and got the ingredients I was missing, the phyllo puff pastry and the cream cheese. I’m going to make these for Sunday tea and invite the girlfriend I’ve to sample it. I pretty excited about it as I can imagine many other fillings such as a steak and onion with with a bit of mash and gravy. :D Cheers from Prince Edward Island Canada 🇨🇦!
Hi Cheryl. Couple of things. First, I have no doubt after watching that video, that yours taste a lot better than greggs. Second, yours aren’t as flat as theirs because you put more filling in. Well done, keep up the good work.
I'm not an expert (just as a disclaimer) but if you have a smooth filling (and very well sealed edges), you ca get pastry to lie flat by weighing it down in the begining of the baking process. then you can remove the weight (I usually use another tray, weight down sligthly with something) when it's halfway to 3/4 done, remove the weight, cut the pasty like seen in the pictures (if you really want to) and let it get nice and brown
a good knob of butter....that'shalf a packet I think hahaha, looks fab, i had them when in the UK. in the Nl we have square individual sized sheets of puff pastry, might help with the squareness but that doesn't matter to me at all
Pierogi is boiled, they are more like stuffed pasta. :) But the stuffing in this video is similar to one of the stuffings of pierogi. I prefer the mushroom one though.
This is like the Polish Pagash made stuffed in bread dough! Why do the British eat baked beans with every meal? I was surprised to see them served at breakfast too!
Recipe starts at 2:19 x
You know I watch the whole thing. Who wouldn’t. I can get everything this week. I still have my puff pastry from the easy chicken pies.

Go back home for wee holiday
Cheryl. Hearung your lovely voice makes me want to go back very soon❤
Yum,yum. But I won't cut off the extra pastry, that's the best part.🤗
Indeed it is!!
Hey I agree with you love the extra bit also I love the crust from the pizza 👍🏻
I know whats for dinner tomorrow, these with a green salad with tomatoes and basil from my balcony, thank you.

I miss cheese pastys so much. I used to eat them far too much when I went to school in Durham. Loved them.
Hullo hen! Just made these, but softened the onions in fried-down bacon-bits. Threw the lot into the spuds and it was amazing!
I think yours look way better than the Gregg's.Yours seem more flakey and just tastier.
I agree. Cheryl's ones looks like they had more filling; maybe why they were taller than Gregg's.👍👌
Definitely look tastier than Gregg's.

Yum! Those look amazing. My mouth was literally watering when you showed the inside of the cut open pastry.
These look better than the shop made versions! More substantial!
And I was wondering what to make for tonight. Thanks this will go over well. I have to say I have eaten many cheese and onion pasty over the years, but these looked way better and I swear I could almost smell them

I LOVE Greggs Cheese & Onion Pasties, they're heaven when they're hot and - ohhhhh! 😂

What pretty hands 🤩
Ohh Chezza! They look Marv!
Omg these look amazing 😍...look better than Greggs 👍
They remind me of Pierogi. I had a Polish boyfriend in high school!
Pierogi is boiled, they are more like stuffed pasta. :) But the stuffing in this video is similar to one of the stuffings of pierogi. I prefer the mushroom one though.
Lovely.....How about a steak Bake recipe👍😊👍❤
Ohhh my! These look so delicious !!! rfs 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
This is like the Polish Pagash made stuffed in bread dough! Why do the British eat baked beans with every meal? I was surprised to see them served at breakfast too!
Because Baked Beans are magic! They are good roughage and excellent brain food!
Maybe Greggs put another tray on top to keep the pasties flat whilst they are baking
They look divine, and there is more filling in yours than Greggs, Cheryl, :-)
The slits cut in the top show your guests that you took that extra bit of trouble.
Uhmmm... YUM!!!
Ohh Cheryl, a wee Benny Hill moment there 🤣
Don’t you think Greggs isn’t as tastey even since they moved out of Rutherglen?
