I remember the first time I watched this when I learned about UX, what a journey it's been!
This was one of the best explanations of UX design that I've heard! It aligns exactly with my own definition. As a UX practitioner, I get frustrated when people equate UX strictly with usability. I've always communicated that business goals are equally important and loved that this video touched on this in its definition. Great job!
Everything is spectacular about this video and that twist at the end was a fab!!
LOVE watching you draw while speaking. And when you see good/bad UX, you KNOW it! I just didn't know that's what it was called.
Ha, I was looking at the final over all image and I was annoyed that it didn't flow, but then I realised it is in a giant UX. Good job that man.
Great video Matt! This gave me a lot of confidence that I'll need going into a job interview tomorrow. I didn't go to design school, I went to information management school but I love designing things and I've got an eye for it. I hope to make UX design a career.
Glad the video inspired you to learn about UX Design again-it's definitely a fun job! If you happy to be able to write code as well then that combination will give you a huge competitive advantage!
Can i just say, I understood everything & I’ve trying to do. that since a week..and I cant help but admire the incredible illustrations! You’re gifted!
This is one of my favourite videos on UX Design. I really like how you combine the illustration with the voice over. brilliant explaination
Thanks Laith. =) We have a lot of fun making these videos!
Laith Wallace 98
I had a lot of fun watching it,. And thanks for the encouragement, cuz as you said I dont really know much about typefaces lol. And great voiceover. You could make a spinoff company called Matt Media
this is how i take notes fr fr. i am a visual learner i suppose. this is going to be fantastic!
Yes!!!!!!!!!! It is in my favorite playlist.
LOVED this! I have the hardest time explaining what UX design it, and you did it so well
Thanks for this nice video. Explaining complicated stuff in a simple way is hard, but you managed to do it!
Great introduction to the UX Design! Thanks!
I got reccommended UX design from a career inventory test and it's apparently one of the most promising fields in my major. Definitely worth researching further. Informative video.
Being a student in web-design and digital marketing ux design is really important for me so thx for your content :)
Morning, this was really interesting and I am now heading over to your blog to check it out. It really made me understand a job that I had never hard of before and now very much interested in. Again thanks and look forward to reading your blog.
I came from Copy writing to UX design, this is very nice! and helpful, especially the part where you say a lot of people are afraid of calling them selves designers! You know what you are talking about.:) thanks a lot
Hi, Hazel. I'm also a copywriter for manuals and the app for a tech company, and thinking of getting into UX. Curious to know what your current job is about and if the writer background helped at all?
Dude, love your video!!!
I'm starting as a self-taught UX designer. Your video is very inspirational, thanks for sharing!!!
I saw Matt present this at UX Australia 2012 - it's great here.. but it was even greater in the flesh. Well done Matt.
Great Content. when you say the definition of user experience, I remembered the book( get started in ux) that I read before. what, how, why, where, who uses the product. your book gave me insight into UX. even it introduced me to one of the best ux e-learning platforms (IDF).
Not only did you explain the concept of UX Design very well, but your drawings are so pretty🥰
Thanks Donna, that means a lot coming from you!
Yo this is just amazing how u explain that so easily. we watched ur video at my college today ( 1200 people watching ) !!
Excellent video! Brings the mystery of terminology to a more down to earth level. Thank you!
This is so good. Straight forward and motivating. I can't wait to start my career in UX Design.
I went to your site just to check out how well made it was. I like what I see.
Cant believe how wide my mouth opened when the whiteboard was shown in full.
Lovely presentation.
LOVE this! great illustration and explanation. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to check out your blog.
I am beginning my ux journey, this was a fun and detailed description of what it all entails.
Very informative, and straightforward take on UX. Thanks!
Very helpful video! I turned my job as Product Owner and having hard time to learn UX Flow and others. That video makes me learn more. Thanks.
Wow I loved the visuals, and you did a very good job of breaking it down, I subscribed.
Definitely will be checking it out...
Thanks for the design explanation and the forecast on need for UX Designers!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Thanks Jez, glad you like it!
Painful background music = bad UX
you do know music taste is a subjective preference right? What you find painful is apparently not for 7.6 thousand who upvoted.
@Can Güneri I can promise you that thousands of people didn't upvote this based on the music. This is third world country music. When you watch a collage of car crashes from blahbeckistan, it's always shit music like this playing in the background. It's probably something that came free with the editor, since those songs are always bad.
@@Ken.- These songs are made to be bad.
Agreed
@Ken Third world countries aren’t listening to this music either 🗑
wow!! blown away such a simple and beautiful video to understand UX
I cannot wait to get into this.
Thanks for the video, makes the UX concept much more simple to grasp!
Excellent answer. It's easy to get confused my different definitions these days. Good to here someone who actually knows what he's talking about.
Exactly. There is so much more to "design" than the visuals. Glad you liked it. I hope to create more videos using this technique, as this one was a lot of fun. On a selfish note, it's an opportunity to combine several passions of mine: UX design, drawing comics, and funky beats!! :-)
Thanks Dave, glad you liked it!
That was seriously awesome. I've been this informed and entertained at the same time. Great job!
The video is very useful to understand how the UX designers work.. Awesome..Thanks
really good.. specially the final UX.
I have loved your content for a while and it has helped me shape my personal curriculum and now I just got sent to this video from Springboard's UX Design Workshop. You must be doing something right. ;D
My pleasure, Sebastián. Best of luck in your journey!
Cheers Rajat! Glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic to hear, Dennis! Thanks for the compliment, and be sure to check in on our website. There will be plenty of content there that I hope you'll find useful.
My pleasure Dorothea! Glad you liked it.
Thank you for the video demo really helped me to understand what to expect in UX. Hoping to see more videos from you. Really inspiring... Great doodling..
Thanks for your comment. I suppose it's all relative-perhaps in my video I should have reinforced how useful having a background in something else (marketing, project management, development, etc) can be when moving into UX design. My advice would be to put a lot of time into your portfolio (sketches, wireframes, stats, photos of affinity diagrams you created, or of yourself leading a workshop) so you can prove your involvement in a project & talk about it with a prospective employer. Good luck!
i like how you calmly replies to offensive remarks about your music in the vid lol. good man, but seriously though, consider the bg music next time! it looked like the video came out from the year 2001. everything else is just brilliant and informatively helpful! cheers
Watching in 2021. This is a well-done explanation.
This is awesome Matt. Great work!
Thank you...absolutely one of the best "what is it?" videos I have ever seen.... well done
Thanks janosad. Glad you found it helpful!
Cheers
Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you liked it.
Thanks man, this video is really helpful
Thanks for your feedback. Will take it into mind when we make the next video.
Great overview, though I find the background music detracts from the UX of this video.
This is so good, it almost came across as if it was a no Brainer and common sense. Im new to IT, only just started exploring, and went back to Studies at 40. So this was helpful, i definitely feel i would enjoy UX design more than other IT pathways
really great video, engaging and informative. Thanks Matt
Thanks Kevin! Yeah I'm a fan of Tim's blog. Thanks for commenting!
Well said max..love your explanation..not too hard but understanable..cheers
Awesome video. Amazing illustrations, great explanation and brilliant story.
WOW! Thanks for the video very simple, short, and to the point. Subscribed!
great video and awesomely done!
Loved this... Thanks so much for sharing!
This is the best video I found to explain what a UX designer is and what does he/she do.
Absolutely brilliant video!
Hey, thanks so much for saying so! Cheers
Such a great video! Thanks!
Great video!! Thanks for the info.
I'm a hybrid UX & visual designer & believe both are very important. UX is important to make the product easy & enjoyable to use, but visual design is also very important in selling it to customers. No one wants to use a product that looks like crap these days.
fell over with relief when you said it wasn't that hard!
This is a great video, incredibly informative and very well done. Thanks!
Thanks Ron! We hope to get around to making some more at some point...
Thank you for an extremely concise and motivating video!
This is really good! Great explanation about UX
Great video! Fabulous Final!
Thanks SpikeZ! Great to hear! :)
Delighted that's how you intend to use it. That was the goal when I set out to make it!
Thanks Tref, appreciate the kind words!
Great to hear! Be sure to check out my "getting started" article, linked to from the video description.
Thank you Matthew. It is a real good lecture.
This is a creative and very fun way to understand what is UX Design. Bravo!
Excellent video and very informative... I recently joined a UX Meetup group and had no idea other then it dealt with some form of technology what it might be about; and our first meet is in about 9 hours... LOL... Thanks for the heads up on what I might expect from this group...
This is a great video! Actually, a perfect way to sum up UX. Nice job!
Awesome video!! thanks for sharing!
At first I thought this was narrated by Ali G. But it's legit. Fun drawings and just the right amount of info. Respect!
+Matthew Tarnowski East side is da best!
You earned my subscription. :)
Great video Mat! Very informative thanks!!
Great work, informative, clear, good speed and fun. You manifest your qualification in your product :)
Thanks kupibl, very kind of you to say so!
thank u for replying.. really appreciate it. i hope u'll make more videos, they are really good
Great introduction to UX Design. Thanks!
Thanks so much for breaking this down.
Gawd, this sounds awesome, I've always naturally made critiques as to how Web and App Designs can be improved upon. A UX career sounds like the perfect solidified career for me. Thanks!
Go 4 It!
HookemHorns972 I think I'm more interested in UI Design rather than UX encompassing everything (Even though UI/Visual Design is a big part of what UX Designers have to get right, there seems to be some overlap in duties depending on where you go). Time will tell. Good wrap up video. :)
***** it's nice you recognize the distinction. Ui will focus on the interface Ux the person using it. i like to do both but preferable not on the same project 'cause it dilutes my focus
Very very well presented and inspiring video...! helped me a lot...since i am looking out for an masters in interaction course
