I have been loving the show. I think honestly my favorite part has got to be seeing Richard seeming like he’s just have fun doing the show.

Same actually, hadnt thought of that.
Also a bit easier for me to read it myself, because I can probably just get it from the library.
Me for example not being the techsavvy person who can find these films as easily

Agreed, this podcast is able to talk about theme's and topics generally brought up in more artistic without sounding full of themselves, jerking off the material or the general things you'll find people who talk about these themes will do

I don't like horror or sci-fi; somehow still managed to watch all 4 movies just to be able to keep up with this series.
Gotta say I surprisingly liked this movie, the ending was a bit wack (as Monte pointed out) for a first time watcher in 2023, but definitely worth the 80 mins. I hadn't seen any of the 4 movies before, and also haven't seen any of the 80s vampires movies either so I'm happy I get to discover these with you guys.
As a totally self-serving proposition, I'd love to see you guys do 90s crime thrillers: silence of the lambs, seven, the usual suspects, basic instinct, etc.
And any genre that could include "Eyes wide shut", cause I need Richard's thoughts on this movie so bad. Cheers, thanks for the amazing content as usual!

God I loved this series. Unfortunately this was the first movie I made the mistake of not watching before watching this episode. It's insane trying to piece together what happens based just on what they're saying here. I definitely am looking forward to the 80s vampire films and I am going to make a serious effort to watch the movies before the episodes are up.

As a child seeing this, I felt so much of it was framed in Egyptian mythology with ideas of eternal life and mummies. I did feel a bit of the vampire element, but it seemed more about those myths. Interesting to see a different take looking back

alright, got it: incredibly silly, short and fun experience, Jeffrey is a great actor, Barbara is goddamn naturally beautiful woman, premise is fine, Im going to watch Castle freak now.
huge thanks for this series and whole concept, hope you guys keep doing it for a very long time

54:50 Monte talking about bomb as if she only just escaped asylum. But she clearly changed her wardrobe so she must have gone to her home or someplace else so she didn't go straight from asylum to house. Where did she grabbed the bomb along the way idk but she collaborates with police and DA. It's not so outrageous in context of the movie.

I do appreciate this movie for how few characters there are and expect for the orderlies at the psych ward, all of them are memorable and have clear character traits.
    - Only element of this movie I didn't fuck with, was the dune worm only giving a hair removal treatment and not chomping the head off.

I would have never watched this movie if it wasn't for this show and I'm very glad to have seen it. If you just hand wave a lot of the effects as "its an old film" a lot of the story is an interesting thought experiment. Only thing that snapped me out was what Monte brought up, where did she just happen to get that bomb?
Really excited to see what other movies I've never watched or haven't seen in a long time as this series continues.

When you guys were listing other cosmic horror film recommendations at the end you missed Pontypool. If you've never seen it check it out. Really focuses on the madness aspect of lovecraft rather than any type of monster. Complete theater of the mind, almost all takes place in one room.

I really love Richard diving into the queer/transgressive sexuality in these older horror movies. Its very interesting from a modern perspective to compare how so many creatives in the 80s era were laying subtle subtext about these cultural movements at the time. Compared to know where really we see very little of this present anymore in films queer/alternative life styles are instead presented as very milquetoast and approachable. Even though for much of the country especially in rural eras engaging in that behavior is still seen as extremely transgressive and leads to social ostracization. In some ways I find older horror movies and subtext characters much more relatable to the modern experience of being in an outcast community.

Jeffrey Combs is a legend. I don't think the special effects are as bad as you guys are making out considering the budget. One of KNB's early works. The body snatcher movie you referenced was directed by Abel Ferrara and cowritten by another low budget god Lary Cohen.

Not a dry upper lip for the full 90 minutes.
Edit: the doctor coming straight back to the house from the hospital with a stack of explosives and a timer was amazing as well.
