Another great episode. I actually didn't enjoy the movie at all. Too artsy for me and the characters were boring. The music was great though so I will listen to the soundtrack in the future.

People should comment on this video knowing Thorin will never read the comments.

I think a really cool group of films you guys could do which is a genre that isn't heavily discussed is surveillance films. Part of my wants this to happen so you guys could talk about one of my favorite films The Conversation, but certainly as someone the discussion of heavy government and personal surveillance continues to rage on, I'd like to see everyone's take on these type of films and how they may have predicted or impacted the current day. The different types of surveillances happening in these films could prove to be interesting dichotomies. The private surveillance and all the potential moral problems that come with it in The Conversation, how personal surveillance can lead you to know more than you should know in Blow Out, and the constant problems with government surveillance and how scared you'd need to be if you dare defy the government in Enemy of The State. There's certainly more to go through than those three, Brazil being one I think you all would love to dissect. Either way, keep up the great content, these are fun watches!

Love this series! Getting introduced to some hidden gems and genres i havent explored much before and all the context and angles of interpretation you offer makes it a really cool experience.
Watched this film for the first time and found it really interesting and enjoyable to watch and while the ending was a bit over the top i think it needs to be there to show that nothing is indeed forever and craving for eternal life and pleasure will eventually lead to (horrible mummy exes coming to haunt you) ruin.

Loving the all the movie reviews.
Shame about Thorin's Johnny Marr story. I can't say I've heard much of Johnny Marr's solo work but besides the Smiths his album with Modest Mouse was amazing too. Great writing and guitar. Guess he just gets overshadowed by powerful singers and the monolith that is popular bands.

Good video! I actually thought Richard’s read on the themes of fame and rapid aging very interesting.
Have to agree on the Bowie casting, even on a meta level, truly elevates this one quite a bit. Going to bounce off Monte’s point here, but this comes after bowie’s Berlin period. Which was very significant and influential on punk, industrial and goth subcultures. Even making a few records with iggy pop who is often credited as the sole influence on the goth vocal style. Hell there’s even a scene in this movie where an iggy pop lookalike is killed while the song Funtime from his album the idiot plays. (the record Ian Curtis was listening to when he killed himself). The level of detail this movie has in some of the subculture it’s presenting is actually quite astounding. Bowie’s presence is a signifier beyond just a strange looking man taking a character actors role. All the stuff with the classical music and chamber music is soo good too. Really plays off of the goth obsession with Victorian crap, and just dramatic and romantic decay, while still feeling sleek and modern for the time.
Really love this one, and find it endlessly rewatchable.

This was probably my favorite film so far. I don't feel like it becomes "just a regular movie" after the first 5 minutes. The cinematography is beautiful throughout. I also find the themes to be explored very well. At the end i found Catherine Deneuve's existence to be achingly hollow. The end could have been done better, but I still have so many beautiful shots from the movie replaying in my mind's eye that it doesn't matter. Also, I disagree with Monte's point that David Bowie was badly cast. I found him perfect for the role. He has a classical beauty which matches Deneuve.

I really loved this movie. As someone who studied and worked in fashion for many years, the visuals were just insane. I was completely hooked from the first minute.
It felt like something Mugler would've worked on... I was surprised when you guys said it was directed by the same guy who did Top Gun.
It's a completely different genre from the movie Nocturnal Animals, but the pace and aesthetics felt similar to me (Nocturnal Animals was directed by Tom Ford, who is a fashion designer). I wish these episodes were longer haha. Thank you!

I've said it before I'll say it again, I watch people like yall because you're so well spoken and tactful. You might think "Oh there are much better speakers you could listen to" but those people wouldn't capture everything you guys capture, Richard especially.

Randomly, a young Willem Dafoe has one line in this. At about 1:10 in they are at a phone booth and he goes, "'Ey lady, how bout it?" I have no idea what this scene was supposed to accomplish.

For me one of better vampire movies. It's a product of its time and soak in that early 80s post punk cultural explosion but it has some deeper ideas. My take on what this movie is trying to say is that youth and beauty or fame have no meaning or purpose if they are not time constrained. If they are frozen in time like main characters, they become dead inside. I also read somewhere that original ending was different and Sarandon character dies. It's a character drama tied around vague vampire theme so I understand people expecting something else may find it boring.

I just wanted to say I hated how man on fire was edited. Too shaky, too many cuts, etc. I like more clear shots. Let the action do the work, not the editing
