    from the movie's wikipedia page:
"Screenwriter Philip Eisner acknowledged that Warhammer 40,000 influenced the story.[10] In the setting of Warhammer 40,000, spaceships travel the galaxy by passing through "the Warp"-a parallel dimension where faster-than-light travel is possible, conceptually similar to "hyperspace" in Star Wars, but which is also inhabited by evil spirits that can infiltrate the ship and possess the crew if said ship is not properly shielded. Fans consider Event Horizon to be an unofficial prequel to Warhammer 40,000, when humankind discovers the Warp and learns of its dangers the hard way."
    that's pretty cool

28:57 My god, these reviews are amazing! Where is that fire and spice in modern mainstream media criticism?
No wonder people gravitate towards independent content creators that review media. This is exactly what is wanted but got scrubbed clean, sanitized and replaced with preachy messaging.

When Dr Weir (evil mode activated) is knocking around Captain Miller in the engine room - every time a strike hits Miller it's the WORST sound possible. Miller's back slams against the wall and it makes a PUNCHING SOUND. I could do better with a $20 desktop mic and a thawed ham. It's insane.
A lot of the visuals were surprisingly good, but the audio made me and my girlfriend laugh aloud.
Also when the vacuum was sucking everyone out of the bridge window, the vacuum was like 10x stronger against Dr Weir. Clearly the vacuum of space prefers eyeless evil people or Captain Miller and Starck are stronger than Satan's host. Even worse when Miller struggles to get to the door, but comforably stands where the air flow would be the most difficult to handle. Absolutely insane.
I love watching these along with you guys. Keep it up!

That's a lot of nostalgia for me in this one. 90's were a holy grail of movie watching for me since i was in my early teens and craving for anything scifi, action or scifi-horror related, needless to say guy who run our VHS store was willing to usually overlook my age vs what ratings films had. That lead to me being sleepless and scared shitless during many many nights, Event Horizon being of those reasons. Great times

I struggled to finish this movie, ended up watching it in 1.5x speed and was wondering how you guys would justify putting that on a list of movies "to watch". But once I found out in this episode that it was one of Monte's guilty pleasures, it made me happy I watched it, haha! To be fair, the suffering I endured to watch the movie was fully redeemed because this episode was so funny.

I love this movie. Sam Neil was amazing in Peaky Blinders too.
Speaking of a movie that portrays trauma... I think El Camino is one of the worst and I need to rant about it. It's the continuation of Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. Basically the movie starts at the end of Breaking Bad when he gets rescued from torture and imprisonment by Walt and is driving away.
At first you see how he struggles so much with trauma, he's a total wreck and I thought wow this is going to be really cool, it's gonna show how traumatized he is and how will he cope how will he get better and whatever. Well, after maybe 10 minutes of him having mental breakdowns and flashbacks and who knows what else, he takes a shower, shaves his beard and head and now he's all cured. Literally his trauma never comes up ever again (unless my memory is failing me.)
Bro... that's insulting to someone with actual trauma.

I laughed so much in this movie bc people were making so many illogical decisions. I was getting The 13th Ghost/Matrix vibes -the whole ship control deck is literally "The Nebuchadnezzar". I found it so funny nobody was corroborating ANY of their stories the moment female doctor is like "I saw my son", all after Weir already saw his wife when he was crawling around in the "motherboard" of the ship... and the one guy that who noticed Justin shaking on the table to come out of his coma, grab him on the face and say "The dark is coming" or whatever... then didnt tell fucking anyone that happened. Total mind fuck of a movie. Was so funny how Weir slowly succumbed to the EVIL of his creation. I totally agree with Richard and Thorin that the first 40 mins did a good job keeping the veil of mystery to the motive of the evil and its origin. Then the last 40 were like "fuck it"

Looking forward to hear what these lads think of From Beyond. I thought it very enjoyable in its "terribleness". Definitely a guilty pleasure type of movie and they for sure did do the thing Duncan suggested for EH of letting Sam Neill's character have motivations as a religious nut case.

  • @Sebarends
    @Sebarends ปีที่แล้ว

You all laughed when Monte pointed out that Event Horizon, Annihilation and From Beyond are all ranked around 6.6 on IMDB, but my question is; what numerical ranking would you give them? Would it be possible for you to each give a number ranking at the end of the episode and would you pick out of 5 stars or out of 10? Or do you guys not believe in that kind of ranking system? Would be very interested to know how you grade some of these.

I was so excited for this episode, and then I sat down and rewatched this movie after probably at least 15 years. And man lets just say I did not remember it being nearly as goofy and laughable at parts as it was. I remember this movie being so scary and truly shocking horror I used to recommend to people for a good scare. Its kind of a laughable joke. "Where we're going, we dont need eyes." I kinda wish I didnt have them after rewatching this movie. Its memory was fonder.

  • @tstartrekdude

38:00 My take away even the first time I watched the movie was that Dr Weir was corupted by the hell force at some point during the creation of the ship and knew what he was making, that he made it to bring his wife back. He hints at knowing what is on the ship before they bord it and shit starts going down.
That the rational explanations he gives were just the last shreds of his old persona, but the hell caption was who's controlling his actions all along.
    * I have no problem writing better backstories in my head for movies that have no good basis in the actual movie to make them more enjoyable.
