Favorite exchange. Cairo: "You always have a very smooth explanation ready." Spade: "Whaddaya want me to do, learn to stutter?"

what a great episode, honestly, any movies that any of you have long relationships with is a recipe for an amazing episode; so much additional insight and historical lay of the land given to really appreciate its significance.
cannot stress enough how awesome it is to see you all talking about stuff you actually enjoy and honestly it makes me happy to see you all having a good time, i hope it's as much fun to film these as it looks like!
Massive thanks to you 3 and all the team involved with this

Ahh, yes.. a movie that can very well be the definition of a "timeless classic".
    Another great episode. Cheers, gentlemen.

Interestingly - what made me interested in this genre was not a film or a book, but a video game(s) - Max Payne and Max Payne 2.
    Very glad about it, too.

This will be the first season I'm watching along with the movies, since I don't like horror and had already seen 3 of the vampire movies. Bogart's performance in this had me GLUED to the screen to the point where I was shocked to find out it had been an hour and 40 minutes.

I have never dabbled in the film noir before watching this movie for the podcast, but I was a massive fan of the Max Payne trilogy growing up.
I have played the Max Payne games multiple times, but I didn't know my perception of Max Payne 1 & 2 had a 'Maltese Falcon' shaped hole in it. There are many ways this film inspired the premise of those games, like the protagonist dealing with a dead partner and being accused of murdering him, the femme fatale with ambiguous motives, etc.
I am really excited to explore the other movies listed for this month's theme.

You're being too harsh on Sam Spade's treatment of Miles' wife Iva Archer. Effie told Sam that Iva had been stepping out (on both of them) the night Miles was killed. It's heavily implied that Sam just found out that Iva was the village bicycle.

Great podcast, great movie. I loved every of you takes, and mention of other movies in the genre. Thank you!
I'll be waiting for the next four play!

I love The Maltese Falcon for what it is, a great film. However, I've never really thought of it as a noir. For me, Out of the Past is the best pure noir movie.

This is so much more educative than my university film appreciation class, which sucked and the teacher only gave us weird old porn

I watched The Maltese Falcon on 35mm last month as part of a celebration behind Warner Bros. 100th anniversary. The timing for this review was perfect, thanks fellas.

Never thought i'd enjoy watching a black and white movie this much but the maltese falcon (and the next film) were thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Would also never have watched them without this show so thanks!

I'd have never watched this movie if it wasn't for this show, and I'm very glad I did. Brilliant movie, looking forward to the rest

I couldn't disagree more about Mary Astor in this movie; she was fantastic and pitch perfect.
Thank God George Raft declined this role. For my money, he was the worst actor ever to become a major star.
