This one was very good, and despite the 80's looks and feel i couldn't really tell if this is an 80's movie or a new one made to look like 80's so it aged really well. Cast is perfect, pace is perfect, but ending is unfortunately so stupid and cheesy, well you can't have it all. Cannot wait for Near Dark episode.
Joel Schumacher was 48 years old when he made this movie. This is a middle-aged man's idea of "hip" when in fact, he is completely out of touch. MTV and bad fashion don't capture the zeitgeist. I saw this movie when it came out and was in my early twenties so I know what it was like back then.
I love this movie so much, very nostalgic but genuinely stands the test of time. Up there with Stand By Me for me. Also fantastic seeing RL, Thorin and Monte away from esports. I've always loved watching Richard Lewis's non-esports stuff, but seeing Monte and Thorin branching out shows how valuable all three are as personalities - just really engaging people with really engaging opinions.
Suprising nobody mentions that an old white man uses the last line of the movie to basically complain that there are too many homosexuals around. Pretty on point with the rest of the movie in terms of gay symbolism
It is sad Haim is no longer with us. Like 4 months ago I watched License to drive for the first time. That's a fun feel good movie with the 2 Corey's. Highly recommend.
This was a really fun movie to watch, it had my interest immediately with the aesthetic, and kept my attention easily for the full runtime. Its really fun watching these movies and just knowing you're going to bring up all the insane shit like the oiled up sax player.
This was my favorite of all the 4 movies selected for the 80's vampire theme. I successfully managed to note the central themes of peer pressure, but the homesexuality subcontext bounced off my thick skull. I think rising cocaine epidemic could also have inspired this movie. I am wondering if Michael wearing sunglasses is a metaphor for dilated pupils from substance abuse. Also, the scene where Michael's mother tries to have a conversation with him can be plugged in many scenarios outside of the vampire theme. I somewhat lament the fact the movie transitions from its serious themes to "home alone - the vampire prequel" campyness, but I still enjoyed it all the way till the end
