The Avalanche and Canucks will be killing each other in the next few years...I could see some conference final duals....almost happened this year. Both are very young with unlimited potential and picks waiting to come up (Byram, Newhook etc....)
I remember Edmonton winning the 1st overall pick back in 2012 and I thought to myself that they should trade it to not only get more assets to help speed up the rebuilding process, but also because I didn't see Yakupov as a great fit for that team.

I wouldn't fall asleep on Miro Heiskanen; easily the best defenseman on the Stars in his rookie season and could definitely be a Norris defenseman someday.
Hopefully Bowen Byram (drafted 4th overall in 2019 after the Avs got shafted yet again, this time with Ottawa's pick from the Duchene trade) works out for the Avs as well.
Now that he's healthy again, he's one of my favorite players on the team. His production hasn't picked back up after coming back from his concussion issues (at least in the postseason, in regular season he was only 11 points behind Girard, despite playing 37 fewer games, and was +7 to Girard's -4). a

I am a big fan of the Red Wings and they've been pretty screwed by the draft lottery in the last few years. I think that the formula is too high variance. Maybe instead they could increase the likelihood of the worst team drafting first and making a rule that you cannot draft first two years in a row or something like that.
I think Makar a nice Canadian boy has surpassed Petterson who like several big hopes is fading a little and might recover but Makar is holding firm as elite. It helps he is playing for a good team with positive chemistry.

In 2012 the devils won the lottery but do to rules they could only move up 4 places to 4th overall. That meant the oilers would draft yakupov, and the devils would draft Adam Larsson. The devils then traded Larsson for Hall 3 years later.

When you realize Oilers were supposed to win the 2016 lottery and would have a line of Draisaitl, McDavid, AND Matthews. Arguably a franchise high potential in Matthew's. And we already know Draisaitl and McDavid are franchise players. But just imagine that.
They finish second in the division the last two years in a row, recently won a playoff round which is more than Toronto can say, and Edmonton is expected to cruise into the playoffs again this year. That's not elite level but it's not an absolute disaster.

That and getting Marner instead of McDavid allowed us to get Matthews so while McDavid is incredible Marner and Matthews together might actually be the better result.

It makes up for the years of RNH and Yak. RNH it's a really solid player but by no stretch is he a legitimate first overall talent.

Malkin is definitely a better overall player but as a Pens fan I can admit that Ovi is the best damn goal scorer ever and one of the most entertaining players to watch. Russia best!
