MacKinnon doing this for the first two months without even having a legitimate 2nd line(injuries)behind him is crazy. Glad he's getting reinforcements in the lineup
I feel like the wild were snubbed from the winners segment. We got a similarly unpredictably good start as the caps, a new tier of production from Kirill, and a system that finally found its stride with a full development camp under John Hynes.
My impression of the caps watching a few games is just how insanely well coached and structured they are. Cool to see Carbery do so well as a Leafs fan
I was fully expecting to see the rangers in the #1 spot of losers. I was hopeful before the season, losing to florida hurt but they ended up winning the cup. Now this season just hurts to watch, specially after winning the presidents last season.
Hello HP. Love your channel! I am really becoming an avid hockey fan but still consider myself new. I have seen you many times mention F1, F3, etc... and a lot of hockey terminology. You clearly have a great understanding of hockey. Will you ever make a terminology video or basic hockey 101 video to teach new fans such as myself? If you do not, I will still support you and your channel because your videos are so well made and I can feel the enthusiasm for hockey which is contageous.
The all-time losers of the NHL has to be the Vancouver Canucks fans. There's no question about it, they've been in the league since 1970 and still haven't won the Stanley Cup. That's over 50 years and for some unknown reason, the fans still continue to fill the building. They've come very close to winning but, still, no cup for Vancouver. If they ever do win the cup, I think that this city will probably explode.
I’m interested to see how the Panthers play in the back half of the season. They’ve had some rough stretches but also have had stretches where they’ve played very well. I expect they will kick it up a notch going into the final half of the season and going into the postseason. I also imagine Zito will pick up another Dman to bolster the blueline. Particularly one that can drive offense. Other than that, the team is in a really good spot
How would you fix the Canucks' defensive problem now that Hughes and Hronek are out? We have Myers, Soucy, Forbort, Desharnais, and Juulsen. Even if they come back with Hughes or without him, there are still significant issues.
Half of those defensemen shouldn’t be in the NHL. The only thing we can do is just ride it out and hope that others like Willander and D-Petey can develop into top 4 options. Even if we wanted to target top 4 dmen right now it would be too expensive, you would have to give up something good to get them.
Great video. Just wondering can you please do a breakdown of the Toronto Maple Leafs and why they are so much better defensively this season compared to last season?
I think a better way is to finish with the winners rather than the losers. It gives the video a more positive tone. Anyway, I agree with you. Great video, as always.
My humble opinion as a life long Rangers fan...Chris Drury is the problem. You'd think as a former player he'd know what management can do for, and more importantly, to a team. You'd think as a former player he'd chose to do whatever he could for the players and the team, especially after a record breaking season in 23-24. Instead, he lets the entire team know that no one is safe and anyone can be traded at any time by putting Goodrow on waivers, openly telling everyone he's willing to trade his star players and then forcing Truba to accept a trade. He's created an environment where it's impossible to succeed. It's not Laviolette, it's not the players. It's Drury.
I dont know that much about hockey like a lot of the people that prob watch this channel. But as a Caps fan I see people online always wondeirng why we're good when our roster doesn't look as good as others. To me it comes back to Carbery, dude is an absolute wizard. Never seen a team playing for their coach like this. He's outstanding.
Very happy this season as a devils fan. I don't know if they have it figured out enough to be a cup contender. But definitely gonna be a hell of a playoff run
I am a fan of one team from the east and one from the West, and I would consider both my teams to be winners, but for different reasons. The Pittsburgh Penguins are winners in my book because they were headed toward toilet bowl status, but seem to have found a level of consistency. Sidney Crosby does not need saving! As for my western team, the Vegas Golden Knights are winners for their record at home alone, but being near the top of the league means that house always wins even without relying on salary cap gymnastics thus far.
Credit to the Columbus Blue Jackets, while not a great team by any means (idk if I’d call them a good team), they’re looking decent and watchable despite the adversity when everyone thought they’d be the worst in the league.
As a Ranger's fan, I think Peter Laviolette + Chris Drury are our main problem at this point. We have a lot of guys who have good talent & solid potential seen in the games that we've won against (decent) teams. But they move like they don't have good direction of what they need to do in _ scenario (in the games that they've been losing and doing poorly in). Plus, it seems like they have low confidence in how they move as they don't always 'just go for it' when there's a scoring chance. Then when they do just go for it, it's often been out of desperation causing them to make a wrong move which results in a turnover and yada-yada... a scoring chance. + Specifically on our defense Both Igor and Quick are great goaltenders, but the Ranger's defense has got to stop relying on them so much. There's only so much they can do in games where there's so many scoring chances for their (good) team competitors.
Man, would love this kind of breakdown for the Ducks. The only other chance I follow on the ducks says it’s the system the coach is implementing that is failing, but then provides no context for what the system actually is. I just want to see the pros and cons of the Ducks this year, and how if where they have shown improvement. Great content man.
@ Yah, I follow him but his content specifically about breaking down the ducks is pretty spaced out. He said he doesn’t want to do game breakdowns so it’s a long wait. What he had done is great though.
Nate is just another lvl like McDavid. You're right, Its one thing to have the speed and skills to do what players of that caliber do but its another to knw how/when to use it and THEN be able to finish the play as often as they do is amazing to see.
Yeah, pretty sure this video is talking about winners and losers of the 2024 CALENDAR YEAR… so many haters thinking their teams should be on the list because of one good month, or the teams chosen should be off because they’ve lost some games this month… He nailed it with the list in this video for 2024.
I don’t disagree with your list. The Lightning I think are an honorable mention in the winner category because they were on track to be perennially mid given the last two regular seasons and early playoff exits, but they’ve managed to right the ship with a combination of new and old talent that should keep them competitive for a while. I’m definitely confused by the Red Wings. Yserman did a great job in Tampa. Not sure what’s holding things back for him in Detroit.
The Oilers' special teams started the year just like the rest of it did. But if you look at their PK/PP since the beginning of November, their PP has been 27% and PK 85%. December alone, they were 32% PP / 88% PK.
I was hoping the Jets would be winners, but their early exit during the playoffs definitely kept them off the list. Hopeful they'll be more than in honorable mention on next year's video. Always enjoy your work. Thanks for a year of great content!
An underrated winner in 2024 is the St. Louis Blues acquiring Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Thus far, the move has been really good for a Blues team that's in a rebuilding phase.
It’s strange that the Canucks, with enormous expectations, following a loss of a conference of final in seven games to the Oilers, have gone from that to just outside a playoff spot. What an incredible fall for a team that last postseason had sufficient puck-movers on the blue line to having lost Nikita Zadorov (who they’d picked up in a trade with a then-retooling Flames’ team) to free agency and having brought in inadequate replacements for him. Neither ex-Bruin Derek Forbort nor ex-Oiler (and 2024 Cup finalist) Vinny Desharnais has particularly wowed me, and poor play all across the board has shown. Just last month the Canucks played 3 games (all of which they had won) during which they had allowed not more than two goals while having played 11 games when they had allowed at least three (2-4-5-0 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record). TBD will be weather this month. the Canucks will turn around their situation although as I see them having a 50-50 chance of seeing playoff action, pretty much anything goes on whether they will.
If you're talking about age & the Islanders, they are younger on average this season than the Penguins & Oilers, Isles are barely older than Devils, Leafs, Canes, & Wild, they also had their top offensive players injured for most of this season so far since the first month which puts more pressure on the defense which has been bad
Turns out a kid on his laptop in his moms basement is, in fact, a better hockey analyst than an entire army of "experts" on sportsnet or (allah forgive me for uttering this word) Prime
Why is it that Keefe finally figured out defence once he left Toronto? It’s so typical. Just watch him win a cup within the first 3 seasons in NJ. Would be so Leafy.
@@Something7348 Right, you need good dmen and a good goalie to play good defense, a good coach is not enough. The Leafs have always had the worse goalie in every playoff series they lost with Keefe.
@@Something7348 that’s true, NJ did actually figure out a good defensive core strategy. I pity Calagry for letting Markstrom walk. Him and Wolf could have been an unlikely elite tandem. But alone in NJ he’s been fine, even if his back up is Jake Allen.
hands down, keefe is one of the best coaches oat, yeah he was a little soft on players in the playoffs but he changes players playstyles for the better.
7:06 It’s remarkable the Capitals survived without Ovi in the lineup while the Canucks have lost two straight without stud defenceman Quinn Hughes having gone down to injury. That shows the Caps this season, unlike the Canucks, have depth, with the lack of puck-moving blueliners having, in the Canucks-Flames New Year’s Eve Eastern Time game, hurt the Canucks a 3-1 loss.
As a Sabres fan I didn’t even have to watch the video to know who the #1 Loser was going to be. We are absolutely horrible. No effort. No speed. No Rushes. Even Dahlin has been slacking.
I thought the Rangers because they were in the conference finals and now they're terrible. Buffalo has been terrible for awhile. I think they need a complete overhaul in the front office.
@@-Subtle- Yeah I think the people in charge aren't making the right decisions. This team has had some luck getting top picks from the lottery and has selected some great players, yet these players never see any success with them and always if they do see success see it on other teams. They have/had good players, so I think roster construction might be an issue. They might not have the right mix of skills/playstyles.
NYR: Still can`t believe that collapse. They were on a playoff spot, riding Shesterkin a bit too much, but right there. Now they are 2-8 last in the Metro, only Buffalo behind them. With that team. Insane. Dury destroyed that team. And he traded Kakko at the lowest value. Now they run Reilly Smith as 2nd RW, hard to understand what the Rangers are doing. With Panarin signed for next season, Kreider for 2x more, Zib and Trocheck for 3x more, Shesterkin, Fox and Lafreniere signed long term, he`s trying to do what?
Yeah for sure, as a sabres fan, the losing has got to me. I feel like with all the trades in Reinhart, Eichel, Skinner, and even Okposo, the team has really let itself down. I was pissed off when Adams made such short-sighted desicions, never considering the leadership factor in this team. I hope things will turn around as their core with Dahlin, Power, and Thompson age on. Great vid tho , keep up the great work!
It's crazy how many players that are really good and had success with other teams came from Buffalo. Like what do they need to win? It's not like they aren't finding quality players.
Panthers have played the most hockey out of anyone in 3 years, 2 cup finals and this season now, and are still the best team in hockey. And the youth of their team is better than expected with their stars. I expect them to be still a force in the playoffs, but even as a fan, I worry about their energy and health. Just hope they stay in control.
preds not being #1 after picking up stamkos, marchessault, etc is crazy. Before the season people were saying they were the team to beat for the cup and they've been in LAST PLACE IN THE LEAGUE. lol. what a dumpster fire. but don't worry, the two forwards they've waived are flourishing with their new teams!

I personally feel like the nyr are on the verge of a firesale. Or at the very least firing the upper management and or coaches.
sabres on a 3 game win streak, 2025 cup run jus started
If you're talking about age & the Islanders, they are younger on average this season than the Penguins & Oilers, Isles are barely older than Devils, Leafs, Canes, & Wild, they also had their top offensive players injured for most of this season so far since the first month which puts more pressure on the defense which has been bad
Turns out a kid on his laptop in his moms basement is, in fact, a better hockey analyst than an entire army of "experts" on sportsnet or (allah forgive me for uttering this word) Prime
Isn't he married and a homeowner?
@MimiWildflower a based man making videos in his garage as his wife calls him to bed
Why is it that Keefe finally figured out defence once he left Toronto? It’s so typical. Just watch him win a cup within the first 3 seasons in NJ. Would be so Leafy.
I don’t think he figured anything out, NJ just have better defenseman than Toronto ever had before this year
@@Something7348 Right, you need good dmen and a good goalie to play good defense, a good coach is not enough.
Ottawa in the wild card both in the standings and in this analysis. Lol. In all seriousness, I enjoyed the video.
Nate Dawg!!!
hands down, keefe is one of the best coaches oat, yeah he was a little soft on players in the playoffs but he changes players playstyles for the better.
Sabres finally finishing at the top of a list🙌
7:06 It’s remarkable the Capitals survived without Ovi in the lineup while the Canucks have lost two straight without stud defenceman Quinn Hughes having gone down to injury. That shows the Caps this season, unlike the Canucks, have depth, with the lack of puck-moving blueliners having, in the Canucks-Flames New Year’s Eve Eastern Time game, hurt the Canucks a 3-1 loss.
honestly quite funny how bad the sabres are with the potential they’ve had
For me the san jose sharks are doing worse losing 9 in a row and being one of the 3 who does not have 30 points.
no fucking way you took a fishing clash sponsor bruh im dying 😂😂
Why don’t the sabres move to Quebec or Atlanta? We don’t need 3 teams in New York
We would prefer it if downstate new york just became it's own state
Yeah because both of those cities did so well with an NHL team 🙄
As a buffalo fan, i completely agree
Seattle should make an application for the triangle of mid in exchange for ottowa
No Minnesota in winners is weird decision but ok. Florida should be max honorable mentions.
Jets, Vegas, Wild, Mack and caps/devils. The winner list.
This video is amazing. You guys consistently put out excellent content.
How anyone can watch THG while this channel exists is wild
Habs going into 2025 beating the Panthers, Lightning, and Injury Reserves; the cup is coming back to Canada!
Rempe gets his own personalised LOSER category!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
preds not being #1 after picking up stamkos, marchessault, etc is crazy. Before the season people were saying they were the team to beat for the cup and they've been in LAST PLACE IN THE LEAGUE. lol. what a dumpster fire.
but don't worry, the two forwards they've waived are flourishing with their new teams!
Winner: Jim Montgomery and Jeremy Swayman
Loser: Don Sweeney and Cam Neely
Loser: Bruins fans
