Kakko will be fine. I think he’s had a hard time adjusting to North American ice and he’s homesick. I mean he’s 18 halfway across the world and in the spotlight of one of the biggest media centers
I read years ago that Stammer's slow start was cause of Barry Melrose not playing him. After a coaching change, Rick Tocchet played him more and hence the increase in production
Couturier was faaaar better than "just okay" in his first 6 seasons. He was our second most important player behind Giroux from his second season onwards. His defensive play has been incredible from the get go.
Yes you're correct. I will say, we saw some pretty massive development around year 5. In the first 4 years he was only "okay" offensively and defensively.
Rob Talks Hockey He was elite defensively starting with his second season though. His offense definitely left a ton to be desired but you can't discredit how important his defensive play was, especially against Malkin.
Kadri to an extent, although looking back now he had a pretty normal development process. Maybe a little slower than you'd want from a top 10 pick on a rebuilding team but some players need more development than others and patience is required. Coaching seemed to be a big factor in his "slower" development. Also starting his career during the beginning of a rebuild in Toronto added alot of extra pressure to his development. He was a solid player in jrs Putting up 258 points in 242 Games between Kitchener and London. His NHL career started out slower putting up 19 points in his first 51 games, and alot of people thought he wasn't living up to the hype. In between he had stints in the AHL where he trained with Gary Roberts who he credits with really helping his fitness and development. He found success under Dallas Eakins on the Marlies and put up 107 points in 119 games. During the lockout season in 2012-13 he put up 44 points in 48 games and showed that he was capable of being a top 6 forward in the NHL. His best seasons so far comming in 16-17 and 17-18 where he had back to back 32 goal seasons putting up 61 and 55 points in the process. Throughout his time on the Leafs He developed his defensive abilities becoming a solid two-way forward while having a physical side to his game showing he had elements of a power forward who could also score. He became one of the more annoying players to play agianst. Ultimately his playing over the edge style lead to his departure from the Leafs after being tossed out of playoff games two years in a row. But he proved alot of people wrong and became a solid top 6 forward with scoring ability and other intangibles (Defence, Physically, Agitating the other team) he needed a few season in the minors to really hone his craft, but has become a solid player who was able to really expanded his game at the NHL level after being drafted 7th overall in 2009.
Damn well written and I couldn't say more, I've followed Kadri since draft Day , remember watching him being drafted and everything. Everything you said is in point. Despite being in the toronto market and being Muslim , Kadri stepped up and did well . Even dispite his fitness levels , Kadri turned into a great player only for the Avalanche to pick him up at the right time .
As a leaf fan the dude is still my favorite player, I think the team missed his tenacity this year, Matthews seemed to up his this year to make up for it luckily but I still want my kaddy back! But the Avs are a fun team to watch so I'm happy he ended up there!
@@Gergentine For sure, I've always said the Leafs need a legit power forward, a guy who can be physical and raise the tempo of the game when needed, I miss Matt Martin for what he brought. Hard to find that type of player who can also be an offensive threat. They'll miss Kadri for what he brought. I wish he could have stuck around longer, but I get why they traded him. I've always liked the Avalanche so I'm glad he went to a team like them.
9:00 all these training clips of segiun are from my highschool. McDavid also trains here in the summer I used to always see him when I was there in the dummer
Mike Schwab but if you’re talking hall of fame cases, then accolades and awards count and it’s no contest. kane cups and hart trophy launch him over stammer
@Mike Schwab Kane and Stamkos are in different leagues when it comes to hall of fame talk. You are trolling or just crazy if you think Stamkos has had a better career.
@Mike Schwab I would say Stammer is near there. Two Rockets helps but no cup yet and when I think about players that are in the hall I think guys who changed the game. I don't know that stammer has changed the way the game is played. Doesn't mean he won't be in the hall and it's just my opinion but not every star player can be in the hall.
I think Kaako will explode and be a great “top-6” goal scorer within two years. Additionally, I also believe in a few years after some development Jack Hughes will also be a solid “top-6” centerman.
Hughes will never be an NHL Centerman. He's ~40% on FO%, and has been since pre-draft events against players who would never even be drafted. His 2-way game has never been there, and he simply doesn't have the size to be an NHL center. He spent the last 1/3 of the season on the wing, and that's almost certainly where he'll spend the rest of his career.
Looking back, it's crazy how Hughes and Kakko went in opposite directions after underwhelming seasons. Hughes is now an elite player and Hart contender, while Kakko is still unable to make a name for himself
Ryan Strome is a bit recent but it still deserves to be mentioned. The guy was traded for Spooner straight up two years ago (Which was pretty much a nothing vs nothing trade at that time) and put up 59 points with a +21 +/- this year.
It's crazy how much St.Louis was passed up. It's been getting better but still happens with guys like Debrincat who went in the 2nd round in 2016 despite multiple 50 goal seasons in junior
Can I pose this question... Do they get better cause they develop or cause the team gets better? Cause in a case like jack Hughes the devil's are not a top team and he has no help no one to pass to to get assists or goals from but if you add a few key pieces he could have a crazy year...
Corey Crawford His rookie year in 2010-11 was good but had a huge sophomore slump and went on to dominate with two Jennings trophies and lead the hawks to two cups and a presidents trophy
I feel like all the debates about Kakko an Hughes gave them so much pressure and stress so they didn't play with their full potential which kind of sucks. Also I feel like they were both rushed a little bit because everyone wanted the other to be better than the other.
Hello from 2 years in the future. 8:30 as it stands Stamkos has 481 goals and 972 points, at his age it looks doubtful he will break 600. Still a 500 goal scored, 1000 points, 7 all-stars and (at least) two Stanley cups. Not Gretzky, but ranks around #100 all time for points, not a bad career
I'll never get use to St. Louis in a Flames jersey lol Huggy bear is still my favorite Hughes but I can see Jack breaking out sometime in the future (Kakko as well, interesting to see who can do it first.)
Kakapo has to play on a team that is in one of the most demanding cities. He also has no one that is from the same country. He also has to adjust to the ice. Come on who else will do good under these cerium stances. Because I won’t
Josh Bailey - NYI started off so poorly we even created the now-famous "Hey Josh Bailey" chant. The guy couldn't score for his life and now he is an assist machine.
I think Hughes and Kakko get a lot of flack because we were pretty spoiled with elite talents like McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, and Laine who all put up at least 45 points as rookies. it became the new standard and anything less is seen as a bust. but in reality, these guys are still teenagers and it'll take some time to adjust :)
Sean Couturier just won the Selke Trophy and Martin St. Louis ended up having a more successful NHL career than EVERYONE who were drafted in 1993, 1994 and 1995
Everybody knows the story of Stamkos. His relation with coach Barry Melrose at the beggining of his career, was extremely toxic to say the least. Melrose, hired straight out of ESPN after 12 years of not coaching in the NHL, was an old school guy. That means, leading with an iron fist and rookies are gonna bite the dust. He was not a fan of Stamkos being treated as a prodigee and kept on using him on the 3rd line without much PP time. Needless to say, the owners didn't enjoy the progression of Stamkos under Melrose and replaced him with Rich Tocchet who only needed 20 games to give Stamkos his confidence back and transform him into the player he was projected to be.
Nucks fan here. I'm super happy you put Nichushkin on this list. That's not something I took notice of, but I'm all the more impressed now. He's a unique player and a scary one at that, even if his numbers in the NHL haven't indicated that yet.
Being a Devils fan I truly think Hughes should have gone the college route and bulked up worked on his game some more because it truly showed when it came to certain things he was pushed off the puck way to easily hopefully it's just the pain of him coming from where he did jumping straight into playing with full grown men Kakko with the way he was put out there i seriously though he would have done better then what he did i was fully expecting him to be in the running for the Calder i dislike the rangers so much but i still thought Kakko was more and likely going to make Jersey look foolish for passing him up this year
I remember when Couturier was underachieving. Jim Jackson and Keith Jones were always saying he could be so much more. I thought he sucked and needed to be gone. Well the 2017-18 season happened and I was shocked. Then I found out he played the 2018 playoffs on a knee more fucked than the Flyers goalie situation for almost all of the 2010s. That's when I knew he was legit. Now, he's one of if not the best player on the Flyers (when healthy) and I've been eating shit since my words in 2015
Hughes is already one of the best puck carriers in the show check the in depth stats its actually very impressive if he went to the Rangers i guarantee he would have had 40 plus points. There was zero help on the devils, his teammates NEVER finished when he set up a beautiful play and he's been robbed more times than I can count. Jack has been more unlucky than anything I can definitely see this kid getting 90 points one day.
Jack Hughes went from the USHL to the NHL which is a big leap. I might be wrong, but I think Hughes is the only player in NHL history to make that jump. It's no wonder he struggled. He should have a spent a year in the NCAA before playing in the NHL.
Kailer Yamamoto was a guy i thought that would never make the show. When he got his call up this season was amazing and really proved me wrong for being and undersized first round pick. Def not a bust 🤙🏽
