"Scarlet" (Plinia cauliflora) is a newer variety of Jaboticaba that's gaining popularity. It has beautiful foliage; vibrant new growth, but the best part is, it could fruit in three years from seed! The fruit is a thin skin compared to the common "Sabara" varieties. "Scarlet" is becoming a hot commodity in the Jaboticaba world and for good reason! I have one escarlote jaboticaba seedling in dappled light under a mango tree. She is doing great. The peeling on the trunk tells me she's happy . I planted her about a year ago and she's about 8 inches. I hope she continues to do well. Had to take her out out the ground and put her back in a pot because the sun and wind was just too much . Saw your tour at flying fox and got some good tips. Thanks for another great video.
Very glad i grabbed some seeds from you. 3/10 sprouted but i heard they can take forever to sprout so i haven't given up hope yet. Im pretty sure just looking at these tree is enough to get you addicted.
Question?????…Just received my Scarlet Jaboticaba and Day Avocado from you guys. I bought the 2 gal scarlet and was wondering how old the tree is at that stage???…The trees look amazing. Added a Kari Carambola several weeks back with blooms already on it. Very pleased with my purchases. Than you
Thank you. This video inspired me to buy 20 scarlet seeds for making bonsai jaboticaba for my friends. They are just starting to sprout and I can't wait.
Can I just buy some jaboticaba fruit from you? There are so many varieties & I’d want to know which one I liked best before I bought a tree for my yard.
looking to buy a couple reds/grimals or a scarlet even (fruiting age or near) im just down the street off SR52..any avail. for a local pickup? would luv to shop this weekend
We are quite booked up with appointments at this time. We have everything you mentioned, but not fruiting age. Please email the office to schedule an appointment. admin@greendreamsfl.com
You're living my dream, Pete! Do you think the Jaboticaba would do well here in the Houston, Galveston area? I guess we are officially 9a zone - hot and humid, but every couple of years a strong cold front will come down and put us below freezing for a day or so.
Definitely in container long term! Worst case scenario it comes in a few nights a year. They can tolerate below freezing for a short period but will loose leaves.
Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL Thanks Peter. I’ve grown a year old apple Guava ,a 4yr year old pineapple and a 3 year old avocado so hopefully I can keep this alive too 😀
I've heard different schools of thought on the best environment and soil to grow Jaboticaba ... full sun / filtered son / shade .... sandy soil / compost dirt / hummus ... what is best? I bought a small tree a couple years ago from your nursery and its struggling in 8+ hours full sun in typical Florida well drained soil. Should I move it or doctor the soil at all? If I could lear how to grow them I would be interested in a larger tree that could fruit in 3 - 5 years. Love your videos BTW -n- Thanks
My 3 jabos do perfectly well in the shade of some cypress trees. I'd say partial shade is good. Edit: they also love organic matter and can tolerate flooding; they're native to the Amazon.
I find they can handle dappled light great. They really like acidity and moisture. They can also handle being in a container long term. Thanks for the support!
Hi my name is Ansari from India . I have sabara plant with 4 years and I am very interested for jaboticaba verities . I am looking for red hybrid and blue , and could you please suggest some varieties to fruit in about 3 years Thanks
Dear Pete, if someday I accomplish my dream of going to Florida to get to know Gream Dreams I just figured out my presente for you: a big bag of Jaboticaba seeds from Brasil!! Have you ever heard about grafting? Do you think it would work?
You would be my best friend! Bring a garbage bag of them, I’ll even buy them 😬. Yes, we normally graft them spring and fall. I’ll be doing more this year.
I bought a jaboticaba from Bunnings not knowing what it was and I've still never eaten any but I'm about to buy a 2nd scarlet and have 10 jaboticaba's in pot's. 😂😍
@R H 😂😂 good job. I have 3 or 4 sabara( one looks like it's about to fruit at 20cm tall so idk if it's sabara, 1 grimal, 1 yellow, 1 scarlet, 1 red hybrid X and 1 other large leaf black variety. I'm super keen to see what they taste like
@R H I tell everyone I expect them to be roughly like a lychee cross grape. I found all the different varieties on eBay from sellers in my state and just over the border who shipped in the mail otherwise I wouldn't have access to different varieties either 🙂
When I heard $400 bucks I thought oh man thats too expensive. Then I think, oh man you're taking care of a sapling for 6-7 years and selling it for a mere $400 bucks, that is years worth of effort . How do you make a profitable business out of it I wonder.
@R H Thank you so much for explaining. Right now I am a software engineer, but after few years, I know for sure that I am gonna follow which path. I am learning as much as I can from this videos also from some other gardening channels. Thank you so much.
Awe, bonsai is a waste of a good tree. Cute, but worthless for fruit. Whatever makes you happy though. Oh, by the way, im in mid-north central florida, and just seeded a few icecream bean trees, I ordered 3 varieties, and have one planted. Trying to get my hands on the seed. Know any suppliers?
Interesting, and tell us, where did that Anomaly Jaboticaba come from, and who developed it? I bet you are not going to tell us that, are you? I thought that since you cancelled Adam Shafran at Flying Fox Fruits and removed all the videos the two of you did together, you would also cancel all the things you learned from him, get rid of all the plants he gave you, and quit using that knowledge and those plants to make money competing against him. That seems fair and like the right thing to do. But that is not going to happen, is it?
Hello! This video was specific to the scarlet, not the rare anomaly . I love Adam and he has done great things for the jobo world. This is my channel, I can post and remove what I want. No competition here dude, I make a living installing edible Landscapes not breeding or selling plants. Now the plant business is becoming a nice side hustle but there’s plenty of room for more of us. Sorry I can’t unlearn why I’ve been taught, that’s not how this works.

What does the fruit taste like?
What can we do to help vegetables grow? Tell me?
I make it on the roof of my house, there are lots of vegetables, it 's lovely.
I brought a seed back from brasil in April (🤫) its growing pretty good. it was from a red one I ate. thinking to turn it into a bonsai..
Love the Jabo vids Pete. Just picked up my first one, a red. What's the best in ground soil mix ratio by volume, 70/20/10 peat/ perlite/cow manure ?
They are a favorite at my house too.
Hi I am trying to get one to my country of st.kitts in the Caribbean do you sell.

How many years jaboticaba bear fruit from seeds?
That all depends on the variety, the most common sabara 10-12yrs

I just ordered some Scarlet Jab seeds. Please tell me the best way to plant them.
You can sprout them or just plant them in the soil just below surface. They prefer 90% Pete and 10% perlite. Moisture is key
This is cool, thanks so much
Hey Pete what's growing on
How long does the Grimal usually take to fruit from seed/seedling?
